They welcome us to this week’s episode of “All Japan Pro Wrestling”!
This week, the Champion Carnival continues!
We’ll see three big Carnival matches, and all three feature tag team partners squaring off!
First up, World tag team champions Steve Williams and Terry Gordy face each other!
Then, Akira Taue meets Toshiaki Kawada!
And in the main event, Triple Crown champion Mitsuharu Misawa faces Kenta Kobashi!
We see some short clips of some of the Carnival matches that took place earlier in the week, including Tatsumi Fujinami beating Kenta Kobashi in a hard-fought match at Korakuen Hall, and Mitsuharu Misawa beating “Dr Death” Steve Williams in Akita!
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY [17] beats “DR DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS [17]. We’re in for a treat here, as the Miracle Violence Connection square off in a real slobberknocker!
These men are two of the most powerful wrestlers in the world today, and they kick the match off throwing bombs at each other! Doc gets the better of this exchange, and he goes on to control the early part of the match. Gordy fights back, but Williams seems to have the Freebird’s number, as he has an answer for everything Gordy tries.
Things continue to go downhill for Gordy, as Doc continues to pummel him. Doc gets several nearfalls, and the announcers note that Gordy is taking longer and longer to kick out, and they wonder how much longer he can take this abuse before he just can’t kick out anymore?
However, Gordy shows his fighting spirit, as he just won’t stay down. He battles back again, and this time, he catches Williams with a Lariat, then another, and another! That gets him a nearfall, but Doc kicks out.
Gordy delivers a Powerbomb, but he’s so exhausted, he doesn’t have the strength to hold Williams down, and Doc again kicks out at the last second!
Gordy answers with another Powerbomb! This time, Williams can’t kick out! Despite finding himself on the defensive for the majority of the match, Terry Gordy somehow pulls out a victory!
The two shake hands after the match, and leave the ring together.
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
AKIRA TAUE [17] battles TOSHIAKI KAWADA [16] to a 30-minute time limit DRAW. Both men pick up 1 point in the Carnival as they go to a draw here. They start out fast, but slow down as the match progresses. Both men spend plenty of time working over various body parts of the other.
They pick up the pace in the final 8 or 10 minutes of the match, and we get a flurry of offense from both men. Kawada connects with the Gamegiri, and then hits a Powerbomb, but just as he covers Taue, the bell rings, and the match is declared a draw!
A promo video airs for SUPER BATTLE IN TOKYO DOME!
We’re just a few weeks away from All Japan taking over the Tokyo Dome for the biggest card in the company’s history!
Scheduled matches include:
Jushin Liger vs Tiger Mask III! Liger has won the first two matches between them, but Tiger Mask has continued to improve, and he feels this is his time to finally beat Liger!
The Miracle Violence Connection defend the World tag team titles against Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue!
WWF superstar Sting will return to Japan, as he faces Riki Choshu! Both men use the Scorpion Lock as one of their signature moves, and on May 3 we’ll find out who’s is better!
In a battle of four of the biggest names in Japan in the last 20 years, Giant Baba teams up with Genichiro Tenryu to face Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami!
And, the main event, a dream match for the Triple Crown, Mitsuharu Misawa defends the belts against the Great Muta!
We hear comments from some of the wrestlers that will be involved:
Tiger Mask III says that he lost his first two matches to Jushin Thunder Liger, but he’s been training harder than ever, and he feels that May 3 will be his night to finally defeat Liger and prove that he belongs at the top of the junior heavyweight division!
Sting can’t wait to return to Japan! He’s wrestled in the Big Egg before, and says there’s no experience quite like it! He has a lot of respect for Riki Choshu, and he’s looking forward to facing him on May 3!
Giant Baba & Genichiro Tenryu talk about their tag team match against Antonio Inoki and Tatsumi Fujinami. Baba says that he and Inoki were once a great tag team, but their careers took different paths, and they never had the big match against each other that both men so badly wanted. Baba says that on May 3, he finally has the chance to prove himself against Inoki! Tenryu says that Tatsumi Fujinami came into AJPW with the others from New Japan, and disrespected the entire roster here in All Japan. He says he just can’t let that go, and he’ll put Fujinami in his place on May 3!
Mitsuharu Misawa says that, previously, he said he didn’t always feel as though he deserved to be wearing these belts. Now, on May 3, he has the opportunity to defend them against one of the biggest names ever, the Great Muta! He says that this will be the test that he needs, and if he can defeat Muta at the Tokyo Dome, he will have finally proven to all these fans, and to himself, that he is worthy of being called the Triple Crown champion!
CHAMPION CARNIVAL MATCH:
MITSUHARU MISAWA [20] beats KENTA KOBASHI [12]. Misawa is looking to rebound after a tough loss to Tatsumi Fujinami in the Carnival on last week’s program. Today, he meets his friend and tag team partner, Kenta Kobashi!
Kobashi wastes no time, coming right at Misawa to start the match! Kobashi connects with a German suplex early, and then follows that up with some big moves that put him clearly in control of the match. Kobashi wears his friend down, focusing on Misawa’s arm, looking to take away the force of the Rolling Elbow, like Kawada did in his match with Misawa.
After taking a lot of abuse, Misawa fights his way back into the match, and at that point, things kick into high gear, and they go back-and-forth, tooth and nail! After some VERY close nearfalls by both men, Misawa manages to hit Kenta with the Tiger Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
