Transmission Date: 15/04/1993
TV Transmission: ITV 1 in the UK, Eurosport in Europe and RUSSIA-1 in the former Soviet Republics
Hosts: Dynamite Kid and Jim Rosenthal
Jim Rosenthal and Dynamite Kid introduce another edition of Atlantic Wrestling - live tonight from the Albert Hall. The duo show highlights from two semi-final matches from the Atlantic Heavyweight Tournament that took place just before we went on air:
Clips of the bout between "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright and Dean Malenko showcase both stars putting everything into scoring a hot at the finals. Malenko shows off his array of technical holds, nearly scoring a submission on Wright with a triangle choke and then hitting multiple suplex variations. However, when Malenko comes off the ropes with a running elbow strike, Wright duck underneath and tangles Malenko in a roll-up for a three count to advance to the finals!
The second semi-final bout turns out to be nothing more than a sham as "The Anarchist" Douglas Williams feigns that he will face off with David Taylor, before simply dropping down and letting Taylor cover him. Jim Rosenthal speaks with Taylor and Williams at ringside to find out why Williams would pass up a chance at the Altlantic Heavyweight Championship? Williams insists that championships will come but he wouldn't pass up a chance to sit under "the learning tree" of one of the greatest Europeans wrestlers.
Back live now as a surprise rings out as the bagpipes play in the Albert Hall. The fans are on their feet as Scotland's own "Rowdy" Roddy Piper makes an appearance in the Hall to join Rosenthal and Kid at ringside. Rosenthal welcomes Piper to ringside and introduces him as a "special analyst" for the night! Piper talks about how his family has their roots in the heart of Scotland and that's why he's always worn the kilt. Piper has nothing but respect for British wrestling and men like Dynamite Kid, so as far as he's concerned, the AWF is the "cream of the crop". "And I loves me some cream," Piper chimes in with a laugh. Piper settles in to join the commentary team for the night.

Back from break, Rosenthal asks Piper and Dynamite for their predictions in the two remaining title matches. Piper doesn't think you can count out the Steiner Brothers because of their size advantage so as much as he'd like to see Brookside and Dean win it in their home country, he just can't see it happening tonight. Dynamite disagrees, saying he's proved throughout his career that size doesn't matter - it's the fight in a person that matters! Piper agrees that's a good point, adding that he's never lost a fight and he's not the "biggest bloke", as the English say. When it comes to the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship, the analysts are split again as Dynamite takes Dave Taylor because of his experience and the fact that "this scum Douglas Williams" will be lurking. Pipers admits that while you cannot discount experience and a numbers advantage, he's been watching and this kid Wright has been on a roll like he's never seen before!
There's not much more time for debate as Rick and Scott Steiner make their entrance for the Atlantic Tag Team Championship match. Once again, there is a commotion as the former Soviet team of Salman Hashimikov and Victor Zangiev are shown seated at ringside. The Golden Boys arrive to a massive crowd reaction and the match certainly has a big time feel. For much of the early going, the Steiners make quick tags to essentially bully Rob Brookside. Piper questions whether the Lads will even get out of the gates before the Steiners put them away. Kid is still backing the Golden Boys and his faith pays off as Brookside finally manages to block a Frankensteiner but turning it into a sit-out Powerbomb. Brookside struggles to make the cover but eventually he drapes the arm over Scotty's chest for a one... two... no! Steiner powered out, but all is not lost as Brookside is able to tag out to "Doc" Dean. Dean comes in with rights and a dropkick to send Scott Steiner to the outside. As Steiner tries to use the ringside rail to pull himself up, Hashimikov and Zangiev both shove him - bringing over brother Rick Steiner to throw punches as the former Soviets. An all-out brawl has broken out between the Steiners and the Russians, with the Golden Boys joining in to help out the Steiners. Hashimikov and Zangiev have finally had enough and they leave through the crowd while the Steiners and Golden Boys dare them to come back. The referee finally gets control again as the Steiners shake hands with the Lads as a show of friendship. The action heats up once again, this time with Dean taking the fight to Rick Steiner. Dean manages to catch the Dog-Faced Gremlin with a flying head-scissors, then comes off the second rope with a missile dropkick. Rick manages to make the tag back out to the exhausted Scott as he falls back in the corner. Scott is back in with a series of right hands on Dean, only for Dean to dodge and roll Steiner into a package pin for a very close two! Steiner pops back up, but Dean is right back on him with chops and then tags out to Brookside. Brookside off the ropes with a cross-body splash but no! Scotty turns it into a massive power-slam. Brookside stumbles up and falls victim to a Frankensteiner, and the Steiners cover for the one... two... three! The Steiners have done it - they are the Atlantic Tag Team Champions after a hellacious battle with the Golden Boys.
Following the match, Dean and Brookside raise the arms of the Steiners, as the new champions promise the Golden Boys a shot at the titles in the future. According to Roddy, the Steiners have just proven there is no better tag team in the world right now!

Backstage, Dynamite Kid speaks with the Golden Boys, who congratulate the Steiner Brothers on a much-deserved win. Brookside appreciates the offer of a title rematch and while him and Dean plan to take the Steiners up on that offer, they have some business to attend to first. A few weeks back, Dean and Brookside were laid out by Johnny Polo's duo of The Warlord and The Viking. Brookside insists him and Dean haven't forgotten and they want Polo's tandem in the ring here in the Atlantic Wrestling Federation.
At ringside "The Austrian Powerhouse" August Smisl gets to deliver a public show of strength. Officials have set up a pile of 50 phone book for Smisl to tear apart within in 1 minute. Smisl inspects the pile and asks several questions, delaying the start of the public show of strength. As he continues to explain, the German giant Ulf Herman makes his way out to yell at Smisl for his complaints. Herman steps up and begins ripping the phonebooks in half, going through the lot in well under a minute. Smisl is furious to have his public show of strength ruined, so he pulls off his weight belt and whips Herman with it from behind. Herman turns around angrily only to get a boot to the gut. Smisl wraps the weight belt around Herman's neck and proceeds to choke the giant out! Officials finally pry an irate Smisl off Herman, but he throws them away and begins stomping on Herman. Finally, officially manage to drag Smisl away. 'Herman the German' is slow to his feet and he's not happy - setting off to find August Smisl!

Jim Rosenthal announces that AWF’s board of directors has had both August Smisl and Ulf Herman ejected from the Albert Hall after their tactics tonight.
The camera pans back to the ring as the junior heavyweight division in AWF continues to heat up with an appearance from Norman Smiley. Smiley faces off with veteran Steve Grey, who provides a solid challenge for Norman. The live crowd are dazzled by Smiley's innovative offense and he eventually puts Grey away with a Northern Lights Suplex for the three count. Smiley shakes hands with fans around ringside after the match. Piper predicts big things from Smiley in the AWF.
In the backstage area, a pre-match interview with "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright and Dynamite Kid is interrupted by Olympian Frank Andersson. The Olympian takes issue with Wright gaining an entry spot in the Atlantic Heavyweight Tournament - again reminding Wright that only one of them has an Olympic medal. Wright tells Andersson that the promoters clearly see something in hi that they don't in Andersson and he's about to prove he's worth the investment in that ring. Andersson laughs as he expresses hopes nobody put money Wright because he knows for a fact that Alex will not become champion tonight. Wright is determined to prove Andersson wrong as he heads toward ringside.

Atlantic Wrestling returns with footage of Rambo meeting with fans as they queued outside the Albert Hall earlier. Rambo promises the fans that it won't be long before he brings home the gold himself.
Now, it's time for the main event as "Das Wunderkind" Alex Wright squares off with David Taylor, with "The Anarchist" Douglas Williams in his corner. Wright has a solid start, as he manages to counter several of Taylor's attempts to wrap him up on the mat. Taylor keeps trying to soften over the back as it would significantly lessen the chances of Alex Wright hitting the German Suplex successfully with an injured back. Wright dodges at first, but eventually is caught with a knee across the back. Taylor locks Wright in a surfboard hold and as the German wrestlers cries out in pain, Douglas Williams demands the official check with Wright. Wright refuses to submit and somehow is eventually able to break the hold when a straw elbow catches Taylor in the side of the head. Wright is slow to his knees but he connects with an elbow to the stomach as Taylor approaches. Wright is able to get up for a dropkick but the landing seems to reinsure his back. Taylor pounces by driving his knee into the back and grinding down. Wright is in serious trouble as Taylor lays in with some stomps and then hooks Wright in the Boston Crab. Taylor sits back far in the hold to apply the most pressure. The referee repeatedly asks Wright if he wants to submit, but Alex refuses. Somehow, Alex eventually gathers enough strength to prop himself up off the mat and shove Taylor off. Dave Taylor crashes head-first into the middle turnbuckle and has seemingly knocked himself silly! Douglas Williams is up on the apron now to cause trouble. Wright is slow to get up but when he is, he whip Taylor right into Williams! The referee tries to clear Williams out as he'd fallen into the ring. There's a commotion when Frank Andersson rushes out - and from behind, he cracks Wright across the back with his Bronze Olympic medal! Andersson quickly rolls out and takes off to the back as Taylor pounces with a Northern Lights Suplex to get the one... two... three!
"Rowdy" Roddy Piper is outraged and he rolls into the ring to protest what just happened. The referee explains that he can't call what he didn't see but Piper is outraged. When he goes to check on Wright, David Taylor and Douglas Williams jump Piper from behind! Taylor cracks Piper with the title belt and then Douglas Williams hits the belly-to-back suplex on the Hot Rod! Taylor and Williams take off when Alex Wright returns with a steel chair. Wright bends down to check on Piper, though he's obviously dejected over being cheated himself.
Jim Rosenthal and Dynamite Kid cannot believe what we've just witnessed - and promise to speak have all the latest details next week on Atlantic Wrestling!
