Atlantic Wrestling Federation
Transmission Date: 25/03/1993
TV Transmission: ITV 1 in the UK, Eurosport in Europe and RUSSIA-1 in the former Soviet Republics
Hosts: Dynamite Kid and Jim Rosenthal
Jim Rosenthal and expert commentator Dynamite Kid are joined by the manager Johnny Polo for commentary this week - and much of the show features Polo bantering with Kid over his American team of The Viking and The Warlord. Tonight, we have another ALW Heavyweight Championship tournament match between American Dean Malenko and Brit Steven Casey.
"Doc" Dean and Rob Brookside vs. Buffalo Breheny and Steve Grey
Brookside and Dean have insisted they are not afraid of stepping in the ring against the much larger Viking and Warlord - and they get some practice in against the rugged Breheny. Brookside and Dean expertly neutralize Buffalo's strength advantage and eventually pin him following a double vertical suplex.
At ringside, after the match, promoter Mick McManus joins Jim Rosenthal to speak about two tag team eliminator matches to determine the championship bout at the Albert Hall. Next week, we will have Johnny Polo's duo of The Viking and The Warlord facing "Doc" Dean and Rob Brookside. Then, on the April 1 edition of Wrestling on ITV, American duo Rick and Scott Steiner will face off with Giant Haystacks and Karl Kramer. The winners of those two matches will face off at the Albert Hall for the Atlantic Tag Team Championships on April 15 on ITV.

Footage is shown of Alex Wright - dubbed "Das Wunderkind" in recent tabloid press articles - making a series of public appearances in London to meet fans. Wright was shown autographing 8x10s for scores of female fans in Piccadilly Circus and then we see a clip of him being interviewed by Simon Mayo on Radio 1 about the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship tournament. Wright even gets to announce the week's #1 single - Shaggy's 'Oh Carolina'.
Back in the Cockpit, Jim Rosenthal announces that Alex Wright will be appearing on the new series of Noel's House Party as a special guest this spring as well.
Frank Andersson vs. Steve Grey
The Swedish Olympian adds some legitimacy to the promotion, after winning a Bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Andersson puts that Olympic track record to use here as he clamps on several submissions, before hoists Grey by the wait and dropping him on his head with a vicious suplex. Andersson makes the cover for the easy victory.
At ringside, Frank Andersson joins Jim Rosenthal - who again highlights the Swede's Olympic accolades. Frank is far from modest as he points out that a Bronze medal at the Olympic probably means he has more credibility than any of the wrestlers here in ALW. Rosenthal disagrees, explaining that why Andersson is surely a top contender at some point and could well become the Atlantic Heavyweight Champion, he would have to go through seasoned professionals to get there. Andersson doesn't like Rosenthal disagreeing with him and says he's always heard the British were supposed to be "congenial" but if this is the way he's going to be treated as a guest in the country, he'll respond in kind in the ring!

Video footage shows August Smisl in a public workout at the Prater Hauptallee in Wien - and he's shown bench-pressing and throwing the shot-put on a track. After showing off his strength, the massive Ulf Herman shows up and wants to know if he's willing to match his strength against a giant? Smisl demands Herman be removed from the track but the security aren't about to get in the face of a giant like 'Herman the German'. As Ulf continues to challenge the Austrian Atlas, Smisl has had enough and says he's "done for the day". He leaves the track as Herman questions whether the so-called strongman fears a true wrestling giant?
Dean Malenko (US) vs. Steven Casey (UK)
Norman Smiley joins the commentary team to share his expert analysis and talks about how he's preparing for the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship tournament. Casey interrupts the ring announcements to introduce himself as "The Ambassador" of British wrestling for the rest of Europe and says he wants to foster camaraderie through grappling. However, Casey's calm demeanor cracks after a few moments as he struggles to gain a foothold against the American technical expert Dean Malenko - son of Boris Malenko. Smiley commends Dean on his technical prowess and mentions how he also trained with the Malenkos in Florida. Casey begins to take short cuts, all while smiling and waving to the crowd. Smiley has had enough and he steps up to complain to the official about the tactics. Casey tries to shoo Smiley off the apron, but turns right into a boot in the gut and Northern Lights Suplex to score the pin. Casey insists he's been cheated after the match while Smiley raises the arm of Dean Malenko.
We'll see you next week with two big tournament matches on Wrestling on ITV - Douglas Williams against Danny Collins, plus Brookside and Dean against The Viking and The Warlord.
