They welcome us to this week’s episode of “All Japan Pro Wrestling”!
We have a HUGE show this week!
The Fantastics, Bobby and Jackie Fulton, face the young duo of Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Takao Omori!
In the first of two big title matches, Masanobu Fuchi defends the World Jr Heavyweight championship against Jushin Thunder Liger!
The final match of Jun Akiyama’s 5-match trial series will take place today, as Akiyama faces the powerhouse from America, Scott Norton!
And, in the main event, Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada defend the World tag team titles against the Miracle Violence Connection!
THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY & JACKIE FULTON defeat TSUYOSHI KIKUCHI & TAKAO OMORI. The Fultons get the win in a good match, when Bobby pins Omori after the Fantastic Flip.
Before the next match, we see a highlight package of the World Jr Heavyweight Top Contender League, including the final few moments of the final last week between Jushin Thunder Liger and Ultimo Dragon.
WORLD JR HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER defeats MASANOBU FUCHI (champion) to win the title! This is the dawning of a new era for the junior heavyweights in All Japan. Fuchi wrestles the older junior style, mostly on the mat with lots of quick moves and counters, while Liger wrestles a more exciting, high-flying style!
Fuchi is a veteran, he’s been in the sport a long time and has seen just about everything, and seems to have a counter for just about everything. Fuchi controls much of the early part of the match, but as things progress, Liger’s lightning-quick, high-flying style is too much for Fuchi.
In the end, Liger delivers a devastating Brainbuster from the top rope! Fuchi isn’t getting up after that, and Liger covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Jushin Thunder Liger is the new AJPW World Jr Heavyweight champion!
We go to pre-recorded comments from Jun Akiyama in the locker room, after his loss to Toshiaki Kawada last week.
Akiyama is now 1 – 3 in his trial series. He says that he’s disappointed in that record, but he believes that he’s made progress each and every time out, and he hopes the fans will continue to support him as he continues to improve!
JUN AKIYAMA 5-MATCH TRIAL SERIES; MATCH #5:
SCOTT NORTON defeats JUN AKIYAMA. Akiyama has a big challenge ahead of him in the massive Norton! Jun is game though, and he tears into Norton! Norton is surprised by this, but quickly turns the tables, pounding Akiyama into the mat.
Akiyama keeps fighting back, he doesn’t get a lot of offence in, but no matter how bad a beating he takes, he keeps getting back up! Even Norton seems impressed by the youngster’s fighting spirit!
However, in the end, Norton delivers the Flashback, and this time, Akiyama stays down for the count!
Prior to the start of the main event, PWF Chairman Lord James Blears enters the ring. He makes the announcement that the World tag team titles are on the line for this match!
After both teams enter the ring, they are presented with flowers, before getting down to business.
WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE MIRACLE VIOLENCE CONNECTION: TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY & “DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS defeat MITSUHARU MISAWA & TOSHIAKI KAWADA (champions) to win the titles.
The fans in attendance at Nippon Budokan are treated to a nearly 30-minute classic, but the match is edited down for TV. Williams and Gordy are a formidable challenge for the champions. While Williams can go hold for hold with just about anyone on the mat, he and Gordy also love a good slugfest! Misawa is a crafty technician, while Kawada is more a rough, rugged brawler with some of the most dangerous kicks that you’ll see anywhere!
The two teams put on an absolute classic, the momentum shifts many times throughout the match, neither team really has a clear cut advantage. In the end, the Miracle Violence Connection get the win when Williams drives Misawa into the mat with the Doctor Bomb for the 1, 2, 3 and the titles!!!
The fans in attendance are shocked, not only have Williams and Gordy taken the World tag team titles from Misawa and Kawada, but Dr Death just pinned the Triple Crown champ Misawa!
Wakabayashi and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show.
