A big show is on tap this week!
We’ll see the fourth match in Jun Akiyama’s 5-match trial series, as he faces the always dangerous Toshiaki Kawada!
The Miracle Violence Connection, Steve Williams and Terry Gordy, face Scott Norton and Johnny Ace for the right to face Kawada and Misawa for the World tag team titles at Nippon Budokan!
A battle of two young wrestlers will see Tsuruta-Gun’s Akira Taue square off with Kenta Kobashi of the Super Generation Army!
And, the main event will feature the finals of the Junior Heavyweight Top Contender League, as Ultimo Dragon squares off with Jushin Thunder Liger in what should be one for the ages! The winner of the match will go on to challenge Masanobu Fuchi for the World Jr Heavyweight title at Nippon Budokan!
JUN AKIYAMA 5-MATCH TRIAL SERIES; MATCH #4:
TOSHIAKI KAWADA defeats JUN AKIYAMA. Akiyama has been improving with each match, and he gives Kawada a fight here! We start to see something of what Akiyama will become here, as he hits Kawada with a range of different suplexes.
However, in the end, it’s Kawada getting his hand raised, after knocking Akiyama loopy with the Gamengiri, before covering Jun for the 1, 2, 3!
Kawada takes the mic, and says Akiyama has impressed him here today, but he still has a long way to go. He says that he wants to fight Akiyama again when Jun has improved more, and become stronger.
THE MIRACLE VIOLENCE CONNECTION: TERRY “BAMM BAMM” GORDY & “DR. DEATH” STEVE WILLIAMS defeat SCOTT NORTON & JOHNNY ACE. This is a wild match, as one would expect from these two teams! All four men can wrestle on the mat, as well as brawl with the best of them, and we see that on display here. They start out mainly wrestling on the mat in the early minutes, but it doesn’t take long for things to deteriorate into a slugfest!
Late in the match, all four men wind up brawling on the floor. Williams and Norton brawl on one side of the ring, while the legal men, Gordy and Ace, battle on the other. Gordy gets the upper hand, and after running Ace into the ringpost, he throws him back into the ring. Back inside, Gordy overpowers Ace, and soon after, drives him into the mat with the Powerbomb!
On the outside, Norton realizes what’s happened, and he tries to get back into the ring, but Williams stops him, and they continue to brawl. Inside the ring, Gordy covers Ace for the 1, 2, 3!
The match is over, but that’s not the end of things! Norton is back inside, and he brawls with both Gordy and Williams, until Ace gets back to his feet and joins in!
The two teams battle all over the place, even into the first few rows of seats, before battling down the aisle and through the curtain!
The Miracle Violence Connection will challenge Misawa and Kawada for the World tag team titles on next week’s program from Nippon Budokan!
We go backstage, to Tsuruta-Gun’s locker room. There, Genichiro Tenryu, Akira Taue, Yoshiaki Yatsu and Masanobu Fuchi are joined by Jumbo Tsuruta!
Jumbo says that he hasn’t been cleared to wrestle, and probably won’t be for some time, but he’s here to support these men in their matches, especially against the Super Generation Army. He says that those young men don’t respect the wrestlers who have come before them, and think that they can just take everything that men like himself, Tenryu, Yatsu and Fuchi have worked for so many years to obtain.
AKIRA TAUE (w/ Jumbo Tsuruta, Genichiro Tenryu & Yoshiaki Yatsu) defeats KENTA KOBASHI (w/ Toshiaki Kawada, Mitsuharu Misawa & Tsuyoshi Kikuchi). The rivalry between Tsuruta-Gun and the Super Generation Army continues this week. Last week, Taue and Tenryu beat Kawada and Kikuchi. This week, Taue goes one on one with Kenta Kobashi.
The action is fast and furious here, but in the end, Taue gains the upper hand, before driving Kobashi into the mat with the Nodowa Otoshi for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, Mitsuharu Misawa takes the mic, he responds to accusations from Tsuruta-Gun that he and his friends don’t respect the older wrestlers. Misawa says it’s not about respect, he has a lot of respect for the men that came before, and paved the way. But he believes that Tsuruta and Tenryu are trying to hold the younger wrestlers down, for their own gain.
He says that Giant Baba stepped aside when it was Tsuruta and Tenryu’s time to shine, and all he, Kawada, Kobashi and Kikuchi want, is for Tsuruta and Tenryu to do the same, show them the same respect that they themselves received from Baba years ago.
Tsuruta says Misawa is a punk, and the two men stand toe to toe. Suddenly, Tenryu attacks Misawa from behind, and all hell breaks loose! Tsuruta leaves the ring, as he’s in no condition to get involved in all of this physicality, but the remaining men all brawl in the ring as we go to a commercial break!
Back from the break, order has been restored, and we’re ready for our main event!
VTR: Last Week On All Japan Pro Wrestling:
We’re treated to another fantastic match between these two. They wrestle at a lightning-quick pace for the entire match! In the end, Liger connects with his Liger Bomb for the 1, 2, 3!
Once again Liger has defeated Tiger Mask, although the young man has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, he gave Liger all he could handle!
Liger again offers his hand to Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask hesitates for a moment . . . and then shakes Liger’s hand! Tiger Mask then raises Liger’s arm, and claps for him as he’s leaving the ring.
END VTR
JR HEAVYWEIGHT TOP CONTENDER LEAGUE
FINAL:
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER defeats ULTIMO DRAGON. The match goes almost the entire time limit, but with about 60 seconds left in the 30-minute limit, Liger sits Dragon on the top rope, then delivers a top-rope Frankensteiner for the 1, 2, 3!
Jushin Thunder Liger will go on to meet Masanobu Fuchi for the World Jr Heavyweight title on next week’s program, from Nippon Budokan!
Wakabayashi and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show. Next week, the show will originate from Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, and it will be a fantastic night of wrestling! We’ll see the final match of Jun Akiyama’s 5-match trial series, against possibly the toughest opponent, Scott Norton! We’ll see Jushin Thunder Liger challenge Masanobu Fuchi for the World Jr Heavyweight title! And the main event will see Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada defend the World tag team titles against the Miracle Violence Connection, Steve Williams and Terry Gordy!
