They welcome us to this week’s episode of “All Japan Pro Wrestling”!
This week, the junior heavyweight top contender league continues with three more matches! Yoshinari Ogawa faces Dr Wagner! Tiger Mask III squares off with Atlantis! And Jushin Thunder Liger meets Shinjiro Otani!
Match three of Jun Akiyama’s 5-match trial series will take place this week. Akiyama will face tag team specialist Bobby Fulton!
And, a big 6-man tag team main event, as Scott Norton, Danny Spivey and Johnny Ace face the trio of Steve Williams, Terry Gordy and Jackie Fulton!
JR HEAVYWEIGHT TOP CONTENDER LEAGUE:
YOSHINARI OGAWA [2] defeats DR WAGNER JR [10]. Our first match turns out to be a HUGE upset, as Ogawa earns his first points of the tournament by defeating Dr Wagner Jr! Wagner has been on a roll lately, but that ends here, when he goes for a Senton off the top rope, Ogawa manages to roll out of the way, avoiding the move, then quickly rolls a stunned Wagner up for the surprise 1, 2, 3!
Ogawa is ecstatic, but as he’s celebrating, Wagner clobbers him from behind and puts the boots to him! Wagner stomps away at Ogawa until a group of wrestlers enter the ring to break it up.
JR HEAVYWEIGHT TOP CONTENDER LEAGUE:
TIGER MASK III [8] defeats ATLANTIS [8]. We’re treated to a great, fast-paced scientific bout here between these two masked men. Atlantis is considered one of the very best junior heavyweights in Mexico, and he controls much of the early going. However, as the match progresses, Tiger Mask shows his fighting spirit, as he keeps fighting back no matter how much punishment he takes.
Tiger Mask slowly turns the tables, gaining the upper hand, and he puts Atlantis away with the Tiger Driver for the 1, 2, 3!
We see a clip from last week’s show. Jushin Thunder Liger won a hard-fought victory over Tiger Mask III. But when Liger offered his hand to the younger man, Tiger Mask, clearly frustrated about losing the match, just slapped Liger’s hand away and stormed off.
Wakabayashi and Takeuchi talk about Tiger Mask’s disrespectful actions towards Liger, but chalk it up to the young man being very competitive, and after losing a close match, he let his frustration get the better of him.
JR HEAVYWEIGHT TOP CONTENDER LEAGUE:
JUSHIN THUNDER LIGER [10] defeats SHINJIRO OTANI [6]. This is another fast-paced match, and Liger gets the win by pinning Otani with the Liger Bomb!
VTR: Last Week On All Japan Pro Wrestling:
Tenryu and Yatsu both look sharp in their first match back in AJPW in almost three years. They, along with Taue, give the Super Generation Army all they can handle throughout the course of the match.
In the end, as Misawa and Kobashi are tied up with Yatsu and Taue on the floor, Tenryu hits Kikuchi with an enziguri, which stuns Kikuchi, but he’s still on his feet. Tenryu then runs the ropes and nearly takes Kikuchi’s head off with a vicious Lariat. That’s all she wrote for Kikuchi, and Tenryu covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
END VTR
We join Genichiro Tenryu, Yoshiaki Yatsu and Akira Taue in the locker room after last week’s main event.
Tenryu says that he may have had his disagreements with Jumbo Tsuruta in the past, but he always respected him. He doesn’t think Misawa and his group respect the senior wrestlers, like himself, Tsuruta, Yatsu and Masanobu Fuchi.
He says that he plans to change that!
Akira Taue says that’s why he joined Tsuruta-gun, because he respects those senior wrestlers, and he knows that there’s so much he can learn from them. He tells Tenryu that it’s an honour to be able to team with him and Yatsu.
JUN AKIYAMA 5-MATCH TRIAL SERIES, MATCH #3:
JUN AKIYAMA defeats BOBBY FULTON. After losing the first two matches of the trial series, Akiyama gets the first win here, as he drops Fulton with a Tiger Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
The two men shake hands afterwards.
Wakabayashi notes that the fourth match of Akiyama’s trial series will take place on the February 4 TV show, against Toshiaki Kawada.
SCOTT NORTON & DANNY SPIVEY & JOHNNY ACE defeat STEVE WILLIAMS & TERRY GORDY & JACKIE FULTON. Norton, Spivey, Williams and Gordy simply pummel each other here, while we get more mat wrestling from Ace and Fulton. In the end, Norton gets the win for his team, when he nearly takes Fulton’s head off with a devastating Lariat for the 1, 2, 3!
Wakabayashi and Takeuchi wrap things up, and hype next week’s show.
