9/28/96 - Hartford Civic Center Hartford, CT
"Rock 'N Roll" Buck Zumhoff and his co-host with bandaged head Captain Lou Albano welcome us to the exciting season premier of ECW Slammin's Saturdays live from the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut! They then talk a bit about ECW action figures and more specifically the Mail-Away Hulk Hogan offer! Buck says for 6 Slam! points found on the back of the toy packaging and the cost of shipping you get the exclusive Hogan figure for free! He says you get bonus points from ol' Buckaroo if all 6 of those points come from Buck Zumhoff action figures! Albano tells the children in attendance that should be easy enough to do, seeing as they're littering toy aisles everywhere! Buck isn't sure why he stuck his neck out for Albano a couple weeks ago.
They then leave the rock 'n roll themed set and climb into their broadcast booth where they call the actions as Joel Gertner makes the intros for the first match of the evening! S.D. Jones officiates all the matches.
Match: Alex Porteau vs. Bobby Starr
Alex Porteau comes down to his ring wearing his shades as he high fives the kids on the way down to the ring. He seems to pick on the last kid as he pulls his hand back to soon and points at him. Bobby Starr is already inside the ring and puts up a fight; but gets put down relatively quickly with a slingshot suplex. Porteau poses in the ring as Slammin' Saturdays takes it's first...
COMMERCIAL BREAK
Arn Anderson reminds us that while the letter A is for Apples and Armbars; the only word that starts with AA is Arn Anderson. Thanks Arn.
Tag-Team Match: Matt Borne & Pogo the Clown vs. Techno Team 2000
The lights are out and weird circus music is playing while a spotlight circles about the arena we return to ringside and the Circus of Doom make their entrance. Troy and Travis come down to the ring looking as weird as ever and do their best as they face off against "The Ring Master" Matt Borne whom after locking Travis in the Stump Puller single leg Boston Crab and nailing Troy with the Whoopie Custhion seated senton falls victim himself to Techno Team 2000's vertical suplex/diving crossbody finisher! He kicks out at two though and makes the tag to the monstrous Pogo the Clown with a slap across the face! Pogo comes in a decimates both members whom he Burying them in the Basement together! Luna Vachon enters the ring with Borne and they celebrate their win.
After the match we're brought the the Slammin' Saturdays set where Buck Zumhoff is flying solo. He says that the Circus of Doom is certainly an intense trio that he wouldn't want to meet even on a bright sunny day. He then picks up his cue cards to introduce his first guests coming to us all the way from the Big Top... gulp....
The Circus of Doom! Chimes in Luna growling into Buck's ear! Matt Borne smacks him jovially on the back as he Luna and Pogo take their seats! Borne and company are here today to talk to the kids about how much fun the Circus is and how important it is to keep the animals well trained and fed. "The Ringmaster" tells us that he always makes sure to treat the monstrous Pogo the Clown well kept and happy by feeding him Animal Crackers! He then pulls out a box and feeds him a couple, nearly losing his fingers in the process! Bad Pogo! He then has Luna "go get some kids" and he allows them to feed the Clown too. They're a bit hesitant at first to say the least, but Borne gets one brave kid to even scratch the big man behind the ear and Pogo acts like a dog. Zumhoff thanks them for teaching us about animal safety and Matt says they were glad to be here while Pogo grabs the Animal Cracker box and practically devours the whole thing making a big mess. Pogo!!!
The camera then cuts to a "Rocking 'N Rolling" segment where The Honky Tonk Man invites the kids at home to listen to a song all you little animals are sure
to love; with "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" by The Tokens!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
Welcoming us back from the last commercial break of the evening Buck Zumhoff and Captain Lou Albano bring us back in time for the Wrestling Rewind Main Event all the way back from December 14th of 1994 where "The Ravishing One" Rick Rude duked it out with then Eastern States Champion "Mr. Wednesday Night" Rob Van Dam with the Title on the line!
Main Event Eastern States Championship Match: Rick Rude vs. Rob Van Dam
After the intros referee S.D. Jones starts the match and the two compeitors rush across the ring, locking up in the middle. To two men attempt to overpower one another as they push each other back and forth across the ring. Driving Rick Rude into the corner; Rob Van Dam looks to be in control when Rude knees him in the gut and follows it up with elbow strikes to RVD's face. When Rude attempts to grab his opponent and back his way up the ropes however; Van Dam blocks it and sends "The Ravishing One" flying across the ring via a monkey flip. Keeping on top of Rick; Rob keeps up the assault with several kicks as Rude stumbles up to one knee. After Van Dam gets several shots in Rude takes him down to the mat with a legdrag. Back on his feet he grabs the top ropes and puts the boots to "Mr. Wendesday Night" before leaping up and delivering a knee drop. Picking Rob up to his knees Rick drags him over to the center of the ring; and RVD surprises him with a roll up! 1!...2!...
Rude kicks out! Popping back up Rude swings and misses and Van Dam ducks under the blow and comes back with a spinning wheel kick. Both men go down; but Rob is back up first and running the ropes attempts a running knee strike as Rude gets back up to his knees. Rude sees it coming however and somersaults out of the way leaving Rob to get hung up in the ropes. As Van Dam staggers back freeing himself; Rude hits him with a big back body drop. He looks ready to go for the pin but instead mockingly dusts himself off before grabbing RVD's legs and hitting the figure four. "Mr. Wednesday Night" wakes up screaming in pain and struggles his way to the ropes. It's a slow crawl but he makes it getting Jones to break up the hold. Keeping on him Rick pulls RVD up to his knees and begins battering him in the head and shoulders with several hard rights and elbows. His left arm seems to be choking the Champ however and S.D. is forced to push Rude away breaking them up. Rick isn't too happy about this and when Jones finally moves out of the way it's lights out time for "The Ravishing One" as Van Dam pops up with a superkick! He rolls over onto Rude and hooks the leg. 1!...2!...
Rick kicks free! RVD is obviously still feeling the figure four as he hobbles up to his feet and picks up Rude; but Rick slaps his way free and begins pounding on the Champ. Van Dam fires back and the two men go at it in the middle of the ring until Rob Irish whips Rude; but Rick reverses it sending Van Dam into the ropes. On the rebound Rick ducks a bit early for a back body drop and RVD somersaults over him before heading back into the ropes. As Rude whirls about Van Dam goes airborne connecting with a huge dropkick! Rick staggers back and falls into the ropes seated. Van Dam charges at his opponent; but holding the second rope Rick pulls himself up and connects with a boot to Van Dam's face! As RVD staggers about Rick Rude takes him for a ride as he whips him across the ring hard into the corner. "The Ravishing One" then charges in for a vicious back elbow. As RVD stumbles forward Rick grabs him and signals for the Rude Awakening! He hits it! And makes the cover! 1!...2!....
RVD kicks out! 3! Rude can't believe it! After pounding the ring and angry Rude pulls RVD up to a seated position and gouges Rob's eyes! Jones steps in to intercede; but summoning up the energy; "Mr. Wednesday Night" throws one of his lethal legs up at Rude's face! Rude ducks?! And it catches the ref in the mush! Jones goes down hard and is out cold as Rick pulls Rob up to his feet and hits a back to belly piledriver! He makes the cover and this one's over! But where's the...? Rude looks over to see S.D. Jones laid out! He throws a tantrum in the ring pulling at his hair. Standing back up tries to shake Jones awake while Rob stirs. Seeing this he puts the boots to the Champ. Rick Rude smiles slyly and exits the ring. He goes under the apron and produces Junkyard Dog's chain; which Lanny says it Rude's "insurance policy." Rick rolls back in and Rob Van Dam is dazed; but back on his feet. And Rude lets him have it with his chained fist! Rob goes down hard but groggily gets back up to one knee and "The Ravishing One" lets him have it again! Rob is down for several seconds but starts to stir and is now barely up on his knees. Rude can't believe it and pulls back for another hit; but someone grabs his hand as the crowd comes alive.
He turns to meet the firey gaze of the Junkyard Dog! Rude is stunned and that's all the time JYD needs to blast him with a massive heabutt! Scooping Rick off his feet; the Dog hits his Thump! front powerslam and barks for the crowd who eats it up! The Dog's Tag-Team partner "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdoch is also on the scene and lying the chain over Rude's face; he stomps on it! With that Junkyard Dog takes his chain back and Deep South hightails it out of there. S.D. Jones is the first of the three men to recover. He sees both Rude and Van Dam laid out and looks confused. But he begins the count. He gets to seven when RVD begins to stir and a little after nine "Mr. Wednesday Night" is back up on his feet. He is wobbly as he surveys his surroundings; surprised to see Rude out cold on the floor. He hobbles over to the corner and climbs up top where he points to his shoulders as the fans chant "Rob... Van... Dam! before he goes airborne! And connects with the Five Star Frog Splash! Rolling on top of Rude Jones makes the count as the...
