Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! A hot Summer of action has fans waiting to see what the Fall will bring. Let’s recap what’s transpired over the past few months:
PNW Heavyweight Champion
Rip Oliver continues his stranglehold on the heavyweight title, due in large part to his vow to keep the title by any means necessary. Fans throughout the Northwest saw first-hand that he’s a man of his word, at least in this instance. Oliver has utilized cheating, outside interference, anything he can to keep the belt around his waist. Oliver’s antics continue to frustrate number one contender Billy Jack Haynes, who promised the fans he won’t give up his fight to bring honor and integrity to the heavyweight title.
PNW Tag-Team Champions
The popular duo of Brett Sawyer and Tom Pritchard have thrilled fans throughout the promotion, taking out all challengers for the title. However, a new team has arrived and may just give the Sawyer and Pritchard the toughest battle they’ve had yet. The Sheepherders have made chilling threats that they will put Sawyer and Pritchard out of wrestling, and fans who have seen their craziness know they may just follow through on their vow.
The Army v. The Army
While there are some intriguing battles for the title belts, the battle between two factions seeking dominance of the Northwest Area is grabbing the headlines. Buddy Rose, always seeking to exert his control over the area, has assembled quite an Army in his quest for domination. Rose brought in a brilliant wrestling mind in “Classy” Freddy Blassie, as well as bruisers Don Muraco and “Big” John Studd. Along with their working relationship with champion Rip Oliver, Rose’s group may just be the most feared stable in wrestling.
One group who doesn’t fear Rose’s Army is the stable led by “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, who recently returned to the Pacific Northwest after a lengthy absence. Piper professed his disdain for the antics of Rose and his men, and assembled a star group of his own. Helping Piper in his battle against the rulebreakers is the man known as the Suprefly, Jimmy Snuka, and Ken Patera, who has retuned to his hometown and vowed to help Piper clean up the area. The battle between these groups should rage throughout the Northwest for many months to come.
Other happenings in PNW:
The tag-team scene got a lot tougher, as a number of new teams have decided to test their talents in PNW. Look out for the team of Chavo and Hector Guerrero, who have held titles throughout the country, the Puerto Rican duo of Carlos Colon and Hercules Ayala, the dynamic team of Steve Simpson and Steve Regal, and the always dangerous Fabulous Blondes (Eric Embry and Ken Timbs)
The legendary wrestler Mr. Fuji has moved into a managerial role as well, bringing in Japanese star Jumbo Tsuruta to the area. With rumors that Portland will soon be adding a Television Title, expect Tsuruta to immediately be a top contender for that belt. However, he’ll likely have to go through “Cowboy” Scott Casey, who is also considered a top contender should the TV title be added to the championship rolls.
Not to be outdone, veteran Ivan Putski, the Polish strongman, has picked up his feud with Killer Tim Brooks, who is now managed by Arman Hussein. These two have had classic battles throughout the United States, and their war in PNW should be no different.
