9-25-96 - Gund Arena Cleveland, Ohio September to Remember
"Mean" Gene Okerlund and "The Genius" Lanny Poffo are stoked to bring us ECW's latest big event live to you from the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio tonight! So sit back fight fans because this is going to be a September to Remember! They then run down tonight's card which will see all the Titles here at Eastern Championship on the line! Not on Pay Per-View; but free right here on ECW's home station TNN The Nashville Network!
# 1 Contender's Match for the ECW Championship as William Regal takes on "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" Chris Jericho!
Eastern States Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage will slug it out with "The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit for the Title!
ECW Light Heavyweight and WCW Cruiserweight Champion Dean Malenko will battle "Too Cool" Brian Christopher for the Lightweight Title!
The vile Women's Champ "Gorgeous" Michele Starr will defend the belt against three time Women's Champ Jaqueline Moore!
The Baron's Ubermensch will finally get their Tag-Team Title rematch from back in December when they fight the men who beat them for the belts back at
Wrestle Annual II; Dustin Rhodes and Tommy Dreamer!
In what's sure to be a real slobber knocker Showdown in Charlotte's team ECW will re-unite as Rob Van Dam, Ron Simmons; and "Ravishing" Rick Rude take
on "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase's men! But just who are they?
And in the huge Main Event ECW Champion "The Enforcer" Arn Anderson will defend the Title against the villainous "Soul Stealer" Papa Shango!
They then begin hyping the first huge match of the night which will determine the # 1 Contender for the Eastern Heavyweight Championship! The winner of this match will go on to face the ECW Champion at Wrestle Annual III; whether that's Arn Anderson or Papa Shango or somebody else; who's to say? They then talk about the recent history between these two amazing competitors who put on one hell of a match at the ECW/WCW joint PPV Showdown in Charlotte! Regal won the match, Jericho claims only because of the introduction of brass kunckles; but the result was the same. The Loser had to switch Promotions and Chris Jericho was brought back kicking and screaming to Eastern Championship! While Okerlund doesn't believe the knucks were an issue being "The Loud-Mouth" tried to cheat using his cronies in The Highlight Express first and never actually used the weapon on jericho himself; Lanny sees things differently (of course); and tells us that it's just another example of how cunning and insidious this so-called good guy William Regal is. Just then "Thundkiss '65" by White Zombie hits and...
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is to determine the # 1 Contender for the Eastern Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Annual III! Introducing first from Manhasset, New York weighing 231 lbs.; he is "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" Chris Jericho!
Jericho explodes from the back! He seems like he's back to his old self but once inside the ring he tells all the sub-humans in the audience he isn't out here for them! That back when he was in ECW he was screwed over time and time again by Eric Bischoff and by the very same type of fans in this arena tonight! He tells us that last year he was the Inter-Promotional Champion! He proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the great wrestler who ever lived! But did he get a single shot at the ECW Championship?! Hell no! Did he get a worthy opponent at a PPV! Hell no! He was stuck fighting off the likes of Pete Rose! Of Lawrence Taylor! Of Hulk Hogan! And now that he's back?! It's just more of the same brother! He doesn't get a shot at taking the Title off of Arn Anderson because you no damn well he will! Instead he has to fight this ass-clown William Regal first!
Gertner: And now introducing his opponent this evening weighing in at 243 lbs. from Blackpool, England; Lord William Regal!
Match: Chris Jericho vs. William Regal
Referee: Danny Davis
Chris Jericho spends some time trash talking William Regal, but the former Eastern States Champion is all business and locks things up with his opponent. Regal has a little trouble at first as he is forced into the corner, but he quickly throws Chris into the corner and begins unloading on him! Jericho fires back freeing himself from the corner, but Regal ducks the second blow and sets up a suplex which Jericho blocks. They trade headlocks, William throws Chris into the ropes and on the rebound he drops th man from Blackpool with a shoulder block! Chris backs into the ropes and runs over William who goes pops up for a hiptoss on the rebound. Jericho blocks in, punchs him in the gut and locks in an arm wrench! Regal rolls out of it, ducks under; and reverses it! Jericho in turns however rolls forward, kip-ups and decks William dropping him to the mat once again! And as Regal stumbles to his feet "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" begins unloading with the Chops!
He drives Regal back into the ropes and goes for a whip! But Regal reverses it and as he comes flying back Regal sends him soaring with a release suplex! Chris rolls out of the ring, but just as quick he's back up on the apron where he scales the top turnbuckle and lets Regal have it with a leaping elbow to the head! Regal is back up and back down with a dropkick from "The Loud-Mouth!" This time it's Regal who takes a breather out of the ring. Chris however follows him out and attacking him from behind whips him into the steel barricade! The audience is booing Chris as he begins hammering Regal's head before kicking him in the gut and drops him face first onto the steel! He rolls a stunned Regal back into the ring before heading up top again! Missile dropkick! Regal side steps it! European uppercut connects! 1!... 2!...
Jericho kicks out! Regal grabs the downed "Loud-Mouth" and pulls him up, plants him with a vertical suplex and a cover for another two. Knee strikes followed by a knee lift from Sir William sends his opponent back down to the mat. A couple well placed stomps and forearm strikes keep Jericho reeling. And he locks in a rear chinlock looking to wear down the "Loud-Mouth's" neck! Chris stays down for a while, but the cheering for Regal seems to re-invigorate him and he fights his way up to his feet! Back elbow. Back elbow and he escapes the hold! But not Regal as he unloads with a hard left! Jericho takes several hits before William goes for the whip! But Chris has been playing possum and comes alive reversing it! He charges in! But Regal gets a boot up taking him right back down! He hops up top, but Chris pops back up to his feet and nails the seated Regal with a dropkick! He then joins William up top and takes him down with a Frankensteiner off the top!
Both men are down for a bit and Davis begins the count. They both stumble to their feet at the same time and Chris begins firing off with some punches! Regal ducks under, only to get caught with another Chop! And Chris lights him up! Driving Regal back into the ropes he whips him, but Regal reverses it! Leaping elbow smash from Jericho on the rebound! Chris soaks up the booing crowd! And as William gets to his feet Chris goes for a clothesline! William ducks it however and connects with a kick to the gut! He pulls in Chris for a suplex, but Jericho smacks him away, runs the ropes; and connects with a bulldog! He then runs the ropes! Springboard moonsault connects! And the cover! 1!... 2!...
Regal kicks out! Chris begins arguing with the ref! He's slapping his arm insisting it was a three! And he gets rolled upfrom behind by Regal! 1!... 2!... Jericho just barely kicks free! Both men are back up, quick kick to the gut by William and he hammers Chris into the ropes setting up the whip. But Jericho reverses it and ends up ducking too early! William stops short and kicks him in the face, then backs into the ropes and clubs his opponent down with a clothesline! Jericho rolls to the corner where he hops off the second rope for a dropkick but Regal catches his feet and catapults him into the ropes! And as Chris stumbles back he nails him with a release gutwrench suplex dropping him on his head! And keeping on top of Jericho he goes for the Regal Stretch cross-legged arm trap STF! Chris fights it! But William locks it in anyway!
But Chris is too close to the ropes and grabs them for the break! Stomps to the head before pulling Jericho up to his feet where Regal starts pounding on "The Loud-Mouth!" Chris reels back hitting the ground, William yanks him by the arm and throws him into the corner! Regal pulls him out and grabs him from behind for another suplex! But Chris Jericho blocks it and rolls William Regal up with an armful of tights! 1!... 2!....
3! Chris Jericho has stolen the win! Regal is right back up ready to fight, but "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" is already out of the ring and halfway up the ramp as he celebrates his victory! He's shouting something! He's going to Wrestle Annual! He's very pleased with himself, but Lord William looks ready to kill somebody.
After the match "White Train" by Tito & Tarantula hits and out from the back swaggers ECW President Eric Bischoff! He gets inside the ring and tells us while he certainly didn't like the outcome, that was one hell of a match to kick off the show! He then thanks all the folks here in the Gund Arena and those watching at home on TNN for joining them here tonight and making Eastern Championship Wrestling one of the top promotions in the world today! We can't do it without you! He then reminds us that when "Easy E" is out here it can only mean one thing and that Business is at Hand! And that business is two-fold tonight! One he has to sell all these new ECW t-shirts including the official September to Remember shirt! And as always, the folks here in this Arena will receive this shirt free tonight to commemorate the event! Just another way to thank you for supporting ECW product. For those folks at home who would like that or any of our other fine product; be sure and call 1-800-BUYECW! Operators are standing by to take your orders!
Secondly and more importantly "All-Class" is sure he doesn't have to tell us, but the road to Wrestle Annual III begins right here tonight! And as we all already have seen "The Long Island Loud-Mouth" Chris Jericho will be challenging for the Eastern Heavyweight Championshop! Tickets for this huge Event will go on sale tomorrow at Ticketmaster locations or calling ECW direct! This, the third annual Wrestle Annual will make ECW's third year in business and will once again be held at the Madison Square Garden Felt Forum on December 1st! So if you're in the are be sure to be there! And if not be sure to be home watching live on Pay Per View!
Eric leaves and the announcers begin talking excitedly about Wrestle Annual III; Gene saying that Wrestle Annual II was one of the best shows he's ever witnessed anywhere and it'll be damned hard to top it. Lanny thinks they can do that with one easy decision. Giving "The Genius" the World Title! Okerlund doubts Arn Anderson would sit for that one. They ten begin talking up our next match which will see double Champion "The Lone Wolf" Dean Malenko defend the ECW Light Heavyweight Title in a rematch against the man whom he beat for the Title; two time former Lightweight Champion "Too Cool" Brian Christopher! They then tell us that Dean Malenko is a double Champ under interesting circumstances; having won the WCW Cruiserweight Title back at Showdown in Charlotte. While he is under ECW contract he has been allowed to compete on both shows until he loses the WCW title which he just defended this past Sunday against Rey Mysterio three days ago. That has to factor into his game plan here tonight. Malenko is going to want to finish this one as quickly and cleanly as possible. Hip hop music then begins to play.
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the ECW Light Heavyweight Championship! Introducing first the challenger from Memphis, Tennessee weighing 213 lbs. and accompanied to the ring by Jacqueline Moore; he is "Too Cool" Brian Christopher!
Brian dances down to the ring and the announcers talk about the fact his valet "Miss Texas" has a match of her own her later tonight as she battles ECW Women's Champion Michele Starr for that Title.
Gertner: And now introducing at this time accompanied to the ring by David Prazak; he is the ECW Light Heavyweight and WCW Cruiserweight Champion weighing in at 213 lbs. from Irvington, New Jersey; he is "The Lone Wolf" Dean Malenko!
ECW Light Heavyweight Title Match: Dean Malenko vs. Brian Christopher
Referee: S.D. Jones
Dean Malenko comes to the ring with both Titles. He locks it up with "Too Cool" Brian Christopher at the start of the match with a quick go behind and hammerlock driving his opponent into the corner. But Brian runs up the turnbuckle and lands behind Malenko whom he takes down to the mat with an arm drag! Dean looks tired early on and Brian uses his surperior speed to his advantage, dropping Dean with Chops and a dropkick before getting a two count off a suplex. Malenko gives as good as he gets, focusing most of his attacks on Christopher's legs including a dropkick to the back of the knee which for a moment looks to have taken "Too Cool" clear out of the match. He gets a two count of his own when he sprinboards out of the corner with a lariat from the second rope and when that fails locks in the Boston Crab to further punish Brian's leg!
Christopher however shows some real resilience here as he fights his way to the ropes breaking the hold! Dean isn't done however and drags Brian by the leg to the hold back in! But Brian pushes himself up to his other leg with a push-up and steadying himself a bit on one leg cracks Dean hard with an enziguiri kick! Malenko hits the ground hard, but his leg makes it take too long for Brian to get the cover and he just barely gets a two count! Malenko spends some time stomping Brian's leg again, but Christopher rallies back and while shaky gets to his feet and begins slugging it out with "The Lone Wolf!" Dean gets the better of him however and drives him back into the ropes where he takes him over the top rope with a clothesline! But Brian lands on the apron and uses the top rope to leap over Malenko and connects with a sunset flip powerbomb! 1!... 2!... Dean kicks out! He's still down however as Brian signals he's going up top! The leg gives him a bit of trouble; but he gets up there and is about to deliver the Hip Hop guillotine legdrop when Dean gets to his feet and shakes the top rope crotching "Too Cool!" He then climbs up to him and pounds on the struggling Brian Christopher for a bit before hitting a superplex off the top! Dean Malenko floats over with the cover! 1!... 2!... 3!
Dean Malenko has won it! David Prazak enters the ring with both Titles which Malenko holds up in the air triumphantly as ECW goes...
Back stage with "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and Eric Bischoff?! They're with ECW Correspondent Terri Runnels in front of the banner where Ted talks about his team that'll be facing Rude, Van Dam; and Simmons tonight. Eric Bischoff however isn't buying it. They aren't even in the building! DiBiase tells him to have faith. They'll be here. And then whatcha gonnna do?!! He lets out his signature laugh as we're brought back to ringside.
The announcers aren't sure what to believe in regards to exactly who Ted DiBiase is bringing in tonight; but there's one thing for sure the members of team ECW will be ready for them. They then hype the next match of the night which will see "Gorgeous" Michele Starr defend the Women's Championship against former three time Champ "Miss Texas" Jacqueline Moore! Lanny and Gene actually agree for a change in their dislike of "The Gorgeous One" and both hope to see Jackie add a third Women' Championshionship to her already impresive resume.
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Women's Championship! Introducing first from Dallas, Texas weighing in at 132 lbs.; she is "Miss Texas" Jacqueline Moore!
Moore comes to the ring alone and we learn Brian Christopher is being seen to by EMTs due to a possible leg injury. "It's Raining Men" by The Weather Girls then hits and out from the back prances...
Gertner: And now introducing accompanied to the ring by Joe E. Legend and weighing 234 lbs. from San Francisco, California; he is the ECW Women's Champion "The Gorgeous One" Michele Starr!
Women's Championship Match: Michele Starr vs. Jacqueline Moore
Referee: Danny Davis
Michele Starr throws his feathered boa to the crowd, which they throw back at him. He is busy blowing kisses to the crowd and the announcing team (which Lanny claims are for Gene) when Jacqueline Moore has had enough and begins pounding on him. Davis goes with the flow and starts the match. Moore has the early advantage and uses it to get a two count with a Tornado DDT and later a bridging German Suplex. Reminding us of the hundred pound weight advantage Starr has on Moore; Okerlund puts her over as one of the toughest Women he's ever seen. Not only in this sport. Starr however reverses a whip and pounds Jacqueline down into the corner where he draws some real ire from the crowd as his puts a boot to Jackie's throat choking her out. The ref pulls him off and looks ready to punch him, but "Miss Texas" is back up and bringing Starr down with a hip toss she follows up with a dropkick she locks him into the guillotine choke with bodyscissors!
Starr is goes nuts and is screaming something about cooties as he struggles to free himself and does so with a back elbow to Jacquline which busts her open above the eyebrow! Davis is quick to check on her, but Jackie wishes to continue and hobbles Michele with several kicks befor he rebounds again and begins putting pressure on her wound! He taunts the crowd the whole time he uses the injury to his advantage and they are in an uproar over it until Jacqueline grabs him by the head and hits a sitout jawbreaker over the top of her own! Starr stumbles up onto his hands and knees, looking up just in time to catch a spinning wheel kick that puts him flat on his back! Jackie makes the cover! 1!... 2!...
Starr has gotten his foot up on the middle rope! Or more precisely Joe E. Legend put it there! Moore threatens Joe who just shrugs when she is rolled up from behind by Starr! 1!... 2!... Moore kicks out right before the three! Michele is back up, but so is Jackie who nails him with a lariat takedown! She begins wailing on "The Gorgeous One" who is screaming "not the face!" Davis pulls her off and Michele rushes to the corner where he feels the wound Jacqueline has opened up on his head! She's busted him open! Michele can't believe it and begins shrieking at Jacqueline about how she ruined his perfect face! Moore is laughing with the crowd as Michele has his temper tantrum. She turns her back on him for a second which proves to be a mistake as he rushes her and pushes her right into the corner where she hits her shoulder hard on the steel ringpost. And as she comes out of the corner Michele Starr scoops Jacqueline Moore up off her feet and hits her with a Piledriver! He makes the cover and picks up the win!
Legend enters the ring with the Title where Starr celebrates before feeling his injured face again and begins screaming at Jacqueline whom he attempts to put the boots to until Joe stops him and they leave the ring.
After the break we're taken backstage to the set of ECW Slammin' Saturdays! Hosts "Rock 'N Roll" Buck Zumhoff and Captain Lou Albano are there to tell us
that this Saturday morning September 28th will mark the long-awaited return of the program which will be in it's 4th season! So be sure to tune in right here on ECW's home station TNN The Nashville Network!
Just then however we're informed of a disturbance backstage! And when we're taken to it we see Debbie Combs screaming for security!
Ronnie Garvin and his secutity team arrive on the team quickly with Eric Bischoff in tow.
In the locker room they find "Macho Man" Randy Savage who is a bit roughed up; but more angry than anything. Bischoff wants to know if it was Benoit and Savage punches a locker denting it badly before telling him no. He tells Eric that he has nothing to worry about because "They're here" before storming out of the room. Eric calls from behind "Who's here?!," but there's no answer.
Back at ringside Lanny and Gene assume "Macho Man" meant DiBiase's group by "they." They then wonder if this attack bodes well for the challenger Chris Benoit or not. Randy seemed to be in one hell of a mood. They then begin talking about Savage's relationship with "The Canadian Crippler" whom he saved his Showdown at Charlotte opponent Ricky Steamboat from just days before the PPV. "The Genius" says that that was just another prime example of why this "Macho Man" is a dolt. He saves Steamboat, so he ends up losing the PPV match. And in doing so he puts himself in the crosshairs of Benoit; getting himself and Debbie attacked two weeks ago. And where is this Steamboat now? Lanny will tell you. He's sitting comfortably in a WCW locker room with a win under his belt and no "Crippler" to worry about. That's where. The Talking Heads then play.
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Eastern States Championship! Introducing first the challenger from Montreal, Quebec, Canada weighing 234 lbs. he is "The Canadian Crippler" Chris Benoit!
Benoit comes down in his sunglasses and leather jacket. He removes his shades and stares coldly at the audience until "Pomp and Circumstance" hits!
Gertner: And now introducing at this time weighing 237 lbs. from Sarasota, Florida and accompanied to the ring by "Hot Stuff" Debbie Combs he is the Eastern States Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage!
Eastern States Title Match: Randy Savage vs. Chris Benoit
Referee: S.D. Jones
Chris Benoit jawjacks Randy Savage a bit until S.D. Jones starts the match. "Macho" immediately pounces on Benoit driving him back into the ropes! A wild brawl breaks out as the two men grapple and pound one another all over the ring! Okerlund says there's nothing pretty about this one. Sounds like Mrs. Mean Gene Lanny retorts. Jones meanwhile attempts to get between the two competitors who're held up in the corner and Chris uses the break for a quick kick to the gut of Savage. Clubbing double axe handle to Randy's back and pulling to his feet "The Crippler" runs him across the ring and throws him out through the ropes!
Blatant disrespect being shown here Gene complains as Chris follows the Eastern States Champ outside where he pulls him up by his hair and runs him into the steel guardrail! He lights him up with a couple chops before tossing Savage back into the ring. Chris mocks Savage's poses back inside the ring and begins stomping Randy out. Hard Irish whip leads to a facebuster from Benoit and "Macho Man" is seeing stars as he crawls on the floor. He makes it to the ropes, but Chris keeps up the assault, catapulting the Champ throat first into the bottom rope! But Randy springs back up and grabbing Chris drives him into the corner! But Benoit reverses positions and takes Savage on a trip to Chop City! Then pulling him out of the corner by his hair Benoit throws Randy head first into the canvas again.
Jones argues with Benoit for grabbing hair. He doesn't seem to care though as he pulls Randy up by it again only to catch a shot to the gut from "Macho Man!" Benoit fires back with a head butt to keep control. Savage with another shot to the gut and grabbing Benoit's legs forces him into the corner! Chris is unphased and with Randy's head against the bottom rope he grinds his knee into the Champ's throat. Randy continues to get several shots in while Benoit beats him across the ring. Chris then takes him down with a snapmare and locks in a rear headlock! But Randy fights his way up to his feet! And Benoit takes him right off of them with a Snap Suplex! Debbie looks concerned on the outside and Okerlund is wondering if Randy should even be competing out here tonight, thinking that the beating by DiBiase's men must have been worse than Savage let on. Randy is down for a bit, but uses the ropes to get back to his feet where Chris is right on him with some hard right hands before running him head first into the top turnbuckle. Chris then pulls him in for a front powerslam and makes the throat slashing motion before he heads up top!
And flying Headbutt connects! Poffo calls Benoit a machine reminding us of the knockdown drag out fight he had with Sting at Showdown in Charlotte three weeks ago. Chris hops out of the ring while Randy catches a breather under the ropes. Debbie shows concern for Savage, but Chris just smiles at her as he drives a forearm across the Champ's chest. Randy is stumbling about in a daze inside the ring as Benoit returns and corners him. But Savage fights back with a quick kick to the gut! Benoit slaps the taste out of his mouth and pulling him from the corner hits a side suplex. Benoit is just relentless as he dissects the "Macho Man" whipping him across the ring and connecting with a knee to the gut on the rebound. He plods toward his downed opponent, but Savage jumps up from his knees with a hard right to Benoit gut! Chris kicks him! But the time Randy won't be denied and fights his way up to his feet! Punch from Savage! Kick from Benoit! Punch! Kick! Benoit whips Randy into the ropes and grabbing him from behind locks in and abdominal stretch! Just how much punishment can "Macho" take! Randy growls in pain as the fans rally behind him and Chris amps it up with an occasional punch to the ribs! Randy is fighting it though and he escapes the hold!
He fires back hitting Chris several times before running the ropes and ducks a clothesline attempt before clobbering "The Crippler" with a lariat takedown! He is stumbling to his feet and he signals he's going up top! And Savage is airborne! Savage elbow connects! But now both men are down! Randy seems to have hurt his elbow. The ref starts the count 1!... 2!... 3!...4!... 5!.. 6!... 7!... 8!... 9!... Randy rolls over and makes the cover! 1!... 2!...
Benoit kicks out! They both are back up but Benoit rakes Savage's eyes! And he Chops him into the corner! Chop! Chop! Chop! Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!
Okerlund is wondering if the match should be ended. Benoit pulls Randy from the corner and whips him, but Savage reverses sending Chris into the corner; and comes charging in with the running high knee! But Benoit gets his boot up sending the Champ reeling! Chris looks toe capitalize as he runs in but out of nowhere "Macho Man" connects with a spinning heel kick! Randy uses the ropes, but he's back up before Benoit and begins hammering away on him! But Benoit ducks a punch and trapping Savage in the corner lets him have it with several more chops! He pulls him out and gets another whip reversed! Benoit hits the corner and Savage charges in and the running high knee connects! Chris stumbles out onto the apron while Randy gets out on the apron and leaping onto the top rope springboards off for a flying clothesline dropping Benoit to the mat! And Savage with the cover! 1!... 2! Benoit's got his shoulder up! Randy is back up and begins to stomp Benoit before delivering several jumping knee drops! Savage pulls Chris to his feet and begins hammering away driving his opponent back into the ropes! But Chris manages to escape and whips Randy into the ropes! On the rebound however Savage rolls Chris up! 1!... 2!. Benoit kicks out!
Both men are back up, Randy swings wide and Chris ducks it and kicks him in the gut! He hooks Savage for a suplex, but Randy blocks it! He tries again, but the Champ blocks it! He's fighting Benoit off and pulls him up and in desperation slams him onto the top rope! Benoit is hung up and Randy runs the ropes! Hairpull Hangman! Nooooo! Chris saw it comes and catching Randy midair throws him back down to the mat! Benoit catches a breather out on the apron because climbing up top! It's moonsault time! But Savage is back up and pushes him off the ropes crotching "The Canadian Crippler!" Randy begins hammering Benoit in the back as he climbs up to, hooks in a waistlock and nails him with a suplex off the top! Both men are down! But Chris is showing signs of life first as he crawls over to Savage while Jones begins the count! He makes the cover at three. 1!... 2!....
Savage kicks out! Benoit cannot believe it and neither can the fans in the arena who go apeshit. Both men are back up but Chris is a little faster, he grabs Savage and whips him across the ring before connecting with a stiff kick to the gut! And Chris goes for a gutwrench suplex, which Savage blocks transitioning hit into a backslide! But he can't get it over as Chris blocks it and transitions it into a German Suplex! And he hits it! But he doesn't let go as he connects with a second and then a third which he bridges for the 1!... 2!...
3! Chris Benoit has done it! He's defeated the "Macho Man" Randy Savage and is the new Eastern States Champion! He sits up while out on the ramp appearss... "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase??!!!
He heads down to the ring and grabs the Eastern States Title! And getting into the ring he hands it to Benoit! Chris smiles and DiBiase lets out his signature laugh as he raises "The Crippler's" hand in victory! What the hell is going on here?! Ted trash talks the downed Randy Savage who seems just as confused as everyone else is before leaving the ring with the Eastern States Champion.
After the match we're brought to a commercial for ECW Action Figures! It promotes Wave 5 which includes Ric Flair, Dick Murdoch, Junkyard Dog, Mongo Vyle, Rhino; and William Regal! Back from the break Lanny and Okerlund are still discussing Benoit seemingly joing forces in with the "Million Dollar Man;" wondering if "The Crippler" is part of this "they" he's been talking about. Though he definitely wasn't one of the three men we saw attack RVD this past Saturday on Weekend Warriors. They then beginning hyping the next match of the night which will see The Baron Von Raschke's team of The Blitzkrieg and Aryan Von Raschke get another shot at the ECW Tag-Team Titles held by Tommy Dreamer and Dustin Rhodes since they beat the Ubermensch for them back at Wrestle Annual II. Lanny says that this match should be the other way around, with Dreamer and Rhodes defending the belts against The Ubermensch who by rights already won the belts back in August when "The Innovator of Cheating" got his team disqualified so they didn't lose the Titles. Okerlund doesn't seem to agree with this.
Gertner: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the Tag-Team Championships! Introducing first hailing from the Republic of Germany at a combined weight of 555 lbs. and accompanied to the ring by their manager The Baron von Raschke; they are The Ubermensch; Aryan von Raschke and "Mangler's Monster" The Blitzkrieg!
The Baron leads his men down to the ring as "Ich tu der Weh" by Rammastein assaults the arena. Lanny claims that Blitzkrieg must be 400 lbs. of their
combined weight; because Aryan weighs a buck fifty at most... with his boots on.
Gertner: And now introducing at this time at a combined weight of 498 lbs. and accompanied to the ring by the lovely Ms. Beulah McGillicutty; they are the ECW Tag-Team Champions "The American Nightmare" Dustin Rhodes and "The Innovator of Violence" Tommy Dreamer!
Tag-Team Title Match: Tommy Dreamer & Dustin Rhodes vs. The Blitzkrieg & Aryan von Raschke
Referee: Danny Davis
Dustin Rhodes starts things out for his team and unfortunately for the Tag-Team Champs so does The Blitzkrieg. Lanny calls this a good strategy. Dreamer and Rhodes can't win if they stop breathing. "The American Nightmare" does his best, but "The German War Machine" unloads on him with stiff clubbing blows and clotheslines while no-selling most of Rhodes offense! At one point he pulls Dustin up off his feet and chokes him out with both hands getting a warning from Davis. Tommy Dreamer however comes in to the rescue and ends up on the receiving end of a beating himself! "Mangler's Monster" treats the duo like ragdolls as he pulls them to their feet and smashes their heads together! They both theatrically fall backward and showing he's the smarter of the duo (according to Lanny) Dreamer rolls out of the ring with a thud. The Blitzkrieg meanwhile gorilla press slams Dustin Rhodes into a backbreaker over his knee and it looks like we have new Tag-Team Champions as he makes the cover! 1!... 2!....
Rhodes kicks out! This angers the masked man and Blitzkrieg throws him about the ring. He gets to close to his opponent's corner in his rage however and Dustin manages to tag in Tommy Dreamer! Tommy goes up top and nails the monster with a diving double axe handle! He begins pounding on Blitzkieg who no-sells most of it, but does fall back a bit before beheading Dreamer with a thunderous clothesline! He makes another cover, but Dreamer kicks out at two frustrating The Baron on the outside. "Mangler's Monster" hoists Tommy up to his feet and unloads with striking knees before throwing him clear across the ring into the ropes and attempts a running bicycle kick! Dreamer however dodges it and Blitzkrieg gets his leg caught on the top rope! Tagging in Dustin Rhodes, the Tag Champs grab Blitzkrieg over the top rope and pulling him over it execute a DDT onto the floor below! That seems to have put the big man down and the Champs catch a breather, sharing a drink; quite ready to take a Count Out victory. The Baron and Aryan aren't happy with this arrangement however and proceed with some trouble to roll The Blitzkrieg back into the ring! Dustin shrugs and makes the cover, but gets a hand wrapped about his throat instead!
The inhuman Blitzkrieg fights his way up to one knee while Rhodes pounds on him and delivers a Telegraph from Berlin! Okerlund and Poffo can't believe he got up after that DDT, but damage has obviously been done as "Mangler's Monster" clutches at his head and stumbles to his corner to make the tag to Aryan Von Raschke! Aryan is quick to make the cover! 1!... 2!...
Dustin kicks out! Aryan pulls him up, double knee strike to the gut; before rolling over him where he hits a suplex on "The Nightmare!" He hooks the leg! 1!... 2!... Rhodes kicks out! Aryan locks in a side headlock to keep his oppoent down, but Dustin fights his way out and Von Raschke switches to the Clawhold! His father looks proud. Dustin however refuses to relent, beggining with elbows, he fights his way out and begins throwing punches with Aryan in the middle of the ring! He drives him back into the ropes and connects with a Bionic Elbow before whipping him across the ring and charging Von Raschke! Aryan sees him coming however and hits the canvas allowing Dustin to take a spill over the top rope to the floor below. Up on the apron Aryan leaps down connecting with a knee drop. He begins stomping Dustin as he crawls to his feet and hammers his head into the steel barricade once before Tommy Dreamer shows up to help!
Together they slam Aryan face first into the guard rail! And then they do it again! They then whip him hard into the steel steps sending them scattering everywhere. Dustin keeps on him, but Tommy Dreamer runs into a slight problem as a still dazed Blitzrkieg attacks him from behind! He beats the living hell out of Dreamer while Beulah attempts in vain to pull him off. Meanwhile Aryan has caught Rhodes with a boot to the face as he attempted to lift him and he rolls Rhodes back into the ring. While this is going on the Baron has pulled Beulah off Blitzkrieg and is holding her back as "Moangler's Monster" hoists
Dreamer up into the air and hits him with a Muscle Buster.... right onto the steel steps! That's gotta hurt! Inside the ring Dustin attempts a clothesline, but Aryan ducks it and cracks the Tag Champ with the Sieg Hail! superkick! He makes the cover! 1!... 2!...
Dustin kicks out before the three! Aryan can't believe it. He pulls Dustin up to his knees and hammers his head in before pulling him up for the jumping Tombstone Piledriver! As he sets him up however Dustin rears his head back and slams it into the Von Raschke crown jewels! Aryan goes falls forward and Rhodes throws him off and hooks the leg! 1!... 2!...
3! Dustin Rhodes has won it! He looks for Tommy Dreamer only to find him lying in a heap with Beulah crying over him outside the ring. He hops down to check on him, but ends up on the receiving end of a beatdown by the The Baron and The Blitzkrieg! Ronnie Garvin, his security team and some EMTS show up to put a stop to it.
After the match, the announcers discuss Tommy Dreamer and Dustin Rhodes who've proved just how tough they are this past year by holding the Tag-Team Championships since December 1st; a record setting 267 days. They then begin hyping the next match of the night which will see what the Bischoff has been calling Team ECW; "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "Mr. Wednesday Night" Rob Van Dam; and former XPW World Champion Ron Simmons re-unite against the trio of men "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase has alleged signed to an ECW contract. Lanny believes him and he's a "Genius" so that has to count for something. Not to mention the alleged trio of acquisitions were seen this past Saturday on ECW Weekend Warriors; attacking both Steve Blackman and Rob Van Dam. They then talk about how well RVD worked together with Simmons and Rude in the Inter-Promotional match at Showdown in Charlotte in which they teamed with WCW World Champ Curt Hennig, Scott Norton; and Buff Bagwell against the combined forces of the Dark Circle and the Dungeon of Doom. One thing Okerlund knows for sure, if DiBiase has signed the three men he claims; Van Dam, Ron; and "The Ravishing One" are going to need that cohesion and maybe more to walk away victorious tonight.

Ted DiBiase Challenge Match: Renegade, Horace Hogan & The Black Scorpion vs. Rob Van Dam, Rick Rude, Ron Simmons
Referee: S.D. Jones
The three men hit the ring before the intros are finished and begins brawling with Ron Simmons, Rob Van Dam; and Rick Rude! Having the early advantage the look dominant and momentarily seem to fool the booing fans who begin booing louder as they are revealed to be imposters. DiBiase looks rather pleased with himself at ringside while S.D. Jones tries to bring some order to the brawling inside the ring. Finally getting some, the match starts out with Rob Van Dam facing off against The Renegade! Rob who mocks The Renegade as he runs riot about the ring has a score to settle and attacks him head on. This proves to be a mistake as he loses a back and forth exchange of punches before getting brought down to the mat repeatedly by several running clotheslines! RVD soon finds himself in a monstrous bearhug and has some trouble breaking free. The Renegade then tags in The Black Scorpion and gets worked over by him for a while before the man in facepaint locks him into the Scorpion Deathlock! Van Dam howls in pain, but manages to squirm free, rolls forward and makes the hot tag to big Ron Simmons!
Simmons comes in and unloads on Black Scorpion with several clotheslines before rocking him with a massive headbutt! Scorpion lands on his ass and seeming to have had enough rolls from the ring. Ron follows him out and leaps off the apron with a clubbing forearm! But the Scorpion has produced a black baseball bat and lets Simmons' have it with a shot to the gut! He gets ready to hit Ron again, but S.D. Jones has hopped out of the ring and grabbed the bat! The Black Scorpion struggles to free it from his grasp, but before he's able to he gets blindsided by Simmons who beats him down and rolls him into the ring! Ron climbs in after him and hits a leaping shoulder block before making the cover! 1!... 2!... Scorpion kicks out! He gets some offense in, but never recovers from Ron Simmons' initial salvo and ends up running into a snap scoop powerslam before getting himself eliminated with a three count. DiBiase doesn't look pleased.
But no sooner than Black Scorpion is eliminated than The Renegade attacks Ron from behind! He whips Simmons into the corner and staggers him with a running clothesline! He then whips him into the opposing corner before doing it again and as Simmons staggers out he scoops him up and hits him with a military press slam! 1!... 2!... Ron gets his shoulder up just before the three! The Renegade pulls him up to his feet and begins unloading on the stunned former XPW Champ, but Ron begins making a comeback and throws a few punches of his own before hitting him with an elbow smash, runs the ropes; and clips him down to his knees with a football tackle to the legs! He then makes the tag to Rob Van Dam and those educated feet go to work! He makes up for his earlier showing as he keeps The Renegade back tracking, tossing him down to the mat with a monkey flip; and then hits the Rolling Thunder! It only gets him a two count and trying to keep the Renegade in a side headlock proves to be a mistake as Rob gets dropped onto his head with a Samoan Drop! RVD finds himself in a bit of trouble for a while as his opponent summons the spirits and beats him about the ring before whipping him into the corner and connects with a running clothesline! Van Dam staggers out and the Renegade goes for a Big Boot! But Rob sees it coming and baseball slides under it! And coming up behind the Renegade sends him back into the ropes with a dropkick! Van Dam charges in and drops his opponent with a Frankensteiner! He then climbs up top and points to his shoulder while the fans chant "Rob!... Van... Dam!" He leaps off and the 5-Star Frog Splash connects! 1!... 2!... 3! The Renegade has been eliminated! DiBiase is fuming on the outside.
And in comes Horace Hogan! He's wearing a Hoganmania shirt which he theatrically tears off in the middle of the ring before flexing his 24-inch Pythons! Rob looks ready to answer the challenge, but Rick Rude wants in and he gets it! He poses before Horace and the fans cheer him! Horace seems annoyed by this and pushes Rude! But Rick pushes back! And soon the two men are slugging it out around the ring! Horace does alright hitting Rick with a Samoan Drop, an atomic drop; and a body slam! "The Ravishing One" however gives better than he gets as he dominates most of their ring time hitting a DDT, a belly to back suplex, a diving fist drop; and even locks in the figure four! Hogan is too close to the ropes however and forces the break. The two men are going at it full tilt when they both hit the ropes and take each other out with a double lariat takedown! The fans and his teammates are rooting Rude on... but Hogan is up first!
Horace pulls Rick up and hits him with a full nelson slam to keep him down before cupping his ears impersonating his uncle before running the ropes and hitting the Atomic leg drop! But Rude has rolled out of the way letting Hogan catch an assful of canvas! And pulling him up off his feet Rude locks in the Overhead gutwrench backbreaker rack! Hogan doesn't have time to submit however as DiBiase is up on the apron and grabs Rude by the hair from behind!
Rick drops Hogan but is unable to catch Ted who's already hopped down off the apron. And Horace Hogan comes in witha clothesline from behind! But Rick Rude ducks it, kicks the returning Hogan in the gut; and hits the Rude Awakening delayed hangman's neckbreaker! And Rude hooks the leg! 1!... 2!...
3! Rude, Simmons; and RVD have won it! There's no time to celebrate however because Ron Simmons has just caught up with an annoyed Ted DiBiase up on top of the ramp! And just as Simmons is about to hand Ted a beating; Chris Benoit explodes from the back! "The Canadian Crippler" hammers away on
Simmons before kicking him in the gut and hammers him into the ramp with a Powerbomb! Alex Porteau meanwhile has come out and is helping DiBiase to the back while Chris makes the throat slashing motion at an angered Rude and Van Dam who come charging up the ramp! Benoit however is gone before they get there and they check on Simmons while ECW goes to...

The fans are firmly behind the Champion as the match begins. Papa Shango and Arn Anderson are slow to lock up as Shango keeps playing games. Arn looks a
bit frustrated by this and pays for it as Papa strikes from the corner with a kick to the gut and rams Double A's head into the top turnbuckle! And he keeps hammering it into the corner before letting out a shrill war cry that Okerlund says sure sent a chill down his spine. But as the Champ returns to his opponent, Shango strikes with a rake to the eyes! And he does it again before grinding "The Enforcer's" head over the top rope! Chops in the corner, this time "The Soul Stealer" whips Arn into the corner hard and charges in with a leaping elbow smash! But Arn blocks it by tossing Papa up and over the ropes! He lands on the apron however and hits Anderson with a hard right! But Double A fires back and sends Shango off the apron and to the floor right into the steel barricade!
Anderson soaks up the fans cheers a bit before following Shango to the outside. Papa seems to be having some trouble getting to his feet, but when Arn grabs him he's obviously been playing possum and lets loose with a face full of Voodoo Mist! Arn stumbles about clawing at his eyes while Shango raises his arms in victory and charging the Champ kicks his leg out from under him sending him down to the ground. He then stomps Arn out for a bit before climbing up to the apron and lets him have it with a diving boot stomp. And Shango is in full control as he whips Anderson into the steel barricade! He then whips him into the ring and charges him with a spear smashig his back once more into it! He rolls Arn into the ring and climbing onto the Champ begins tormenting him with punches and chokes until he's warned off by referee Danny Davis. Getting off of Anderson, Shango pulls the Champ to his feet and takes him down with a snapmare before going up top! There he perches, beckoning AA to rise to his feet and as the hazy Anderson stumbles up to his feet he gets his head taken clean off with a missile dropkick! And the cover! 1!... 2!...

Anderson hurls him off at two! And Arn is back up with a hot to the gut! He brings Arn down to the mat and grabbing his leg begins twisting it with a step-over toe hold! Davis wants to know if the Champ wants to submit, but Arn isn't having it! He's fighting it tooth and nail! Arn grabs Shango by the head and hits him with a right hand. He does it again and Papa staggers back freeing AA up just enough to pull his opponent off his feet and counter with the figure four leglock! It's Shango's turn and he's howling in pain but too close to the ropes and grabs it to force the break!
He staggers back up but so is Arn who from one knee rocks Shango back into the ropes with a headbutt, fires off some punches; and whips him across the ring! But Arn ducks to early, Papa Shango kicks him in the face; but this time it's Anderson who has been playing possum as he grabs the foot and keeps it! He wags his finger at Shango before pulling him down to the mat with a leg drag and stomps him in the stomach before wrapping up his legs and...
He's got it! Figure four! figure four! And this time Papa Shango has nowhere to go! He fights it but Arn Anderson keeps putting on the pressure until Shango taps! Arn has won it! Walks passed him?! He heads down to the ring! Shango is pissed and screaming at Brimstone whom he is now nose to nose with himself! And he slaps "The Prophet" in the face! But Brimstone grabs him about the throat! Arn looks on from the ramp as Brimstone connects with a Chokeslam from Hell on "The Soul Stealer!"
