WWF RECAP
JANUARY 17 TO THE END OF FEBRUARY
JANUARY 17 TO THE END OF FEBRUARY
YOKOZUNA / LEX LUGER:
We didn’t see much of Yokozuna after the Royal Rumble, except for the odd interview, where Woman promised that her Champion would destroy Lex Luger on April 10 at MSG. Woman sent some tough challenges Luger’s way, trying to soften Lex up for the World Champ, but Luger turned back all of these challenges, and kept his focus on Yokozuna. Luger says he was cheated out of the WWF title last year at SummerSlam, but promises his fans that he will make up for it by defeating Yoko at WrestleMania!
INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE:
Razor Ramon got a handful of rematches with new IC Champion Steve Austin, including a RAW main event at the end of January. Austin proved that his title win at the Royal Rumble was no fluke as he soundly defeated Ramon in all of their rematches. In late-February, a new challenge appeared on the scene, in the form of former IC champ Mr. Perfect! Perfect interrupted an interview with Steve Austin on the last RAW of February, saying it’s time that the IC Title came back where it belongs . . . around the waist of Mr. Perfect! He accused Austin of trying to be a “cheap Curt Hennig imitation”, a comment that did not sit well with the new IC Champion!
TAG TEAM TITLES:
The Nasty Boys leave the Royal Rumble as the new World Tag Team Champions, and quickly show that they intend to be fighting Champions, by racking up victories over several tough teams like John Kronus and Perry Saturn, and the former Champions the Quebecers. On the last RAW of February, the Quebecers get another shot at the belts, but the match ends in a Double DQ.
ULTIMATE WARRIOR / BIG VAN VADER:
After his shocking appearance at the Royal Rumble, where he attacked the Warrior and cost him the match with Yokozuna, Vader made it clear that he wants to be the top dog in the World Wrestling Federation, and decided that the quickest way to get to the top was to take out the Ultimate Warrior! Warrior promises to destroy Vader, and a match is signed between the two men for WrestleMania X on April 10 at MSG.
RODDY PIPER / BOB ORTON & JOHN HAWK:
Piper and Orton continued to taunt each other on each edition of RAW. It finally led to a physical confrontation in early-February, but John Hawk got involved, and left Piper laying. The next week, Piper had a lot of people doubting his sanity when he went right back at Hawk and Orton . . . but this time he brought back-up, in the form of Hulk Hogan! As Orton and Hawk retreated, Piper and Hogan stood side-by-side, challenging them to stick around and fight!
