Sounds like it should be a good read! Because you tend do studio shows, I always find it interesting to look up the history of the TV channel itself at launch. It looks like there's some added drama attached to this station around the time.

After Ray Odyssey was eliminated, it came down to the Cheetah Kid and Jonathan Rotten, Esquire. Rotten looked to have had the match but chose to prolong things to deliver more punishment which led to his undoing. The Cheetah Kid was the last man standing and the NEW Champion!

Good to see the future Rocco Rock winning the belt. I was able to see him a time or two as Cheetah Kid and he was fun to watch.

Wrestling on the CapeEpisode 1 from the WCVX Television Studios in Hyannis Taped Friday, February 25th, 1988 Airing Friday, March 4th, 1988 Ox Baker: You're watching Wrestling on the Cape ... and I want to hurt someone! With the end of the music, the camera zooms in on "The Professor", Percival Pringle who introduces his rather large and scary co-host, the indomitable Ox Baker. Baker talks about wanting to hurt people but thanks to the people in charge who have paid him rather handsomely NOT to hurt Pringle who thanks his lucky stars. Never the less, Percy welcomes everyone to Wrestling on the Cape and the Cape's very own 30 minutes of mayhem and mirth. He talks about kicking off the action with Tom Renesto Jr. taking on Caveman Broda. Ox says he is familiar with Renesto's father who was one of the Assassins. We've also got the Heavyweight Champion, the Cheetah Kid in non-title action. Baker says it is just like a champion to win a title then not defend it ... he's a chicken! Percy redirects, saying he'll be taking on the young Jason Knight, who may be a champion in the future. Right now, Percy brings in a short young man and introduces him with the name he's been wrestling under ... Rick Davis ... BUT ... coaxes out of him his real name and heritage ... son of Al Tomko, wrestler, promoter and former World Champion. Now, he's a bit far from home in Western Canada. Todd Tomko says that Percy is right on all counts about his father but he's here, far from home to make it on his own. Win or lose, no one can say it is becaise of his father. He plans on showing all these great fans what he's made of and hopes to do them and his family name proud! Tomko walks off to a cheer as Ox Baker calls him "awfully small". He continues, saying that he knows Al Tomko very well. Baker holds up a fist, saying if Al shows his face in these parts, he's got on of these coming ... why? Because he cheated Ox Baker out of some money! Anywho ... Percy rolls his eyes before sending it to a commercial break! x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x... right into our first match of the evening! Match 1: Tom Renesto Jr. versus Caveman BrodaThe man from 1 million BC comes out with the music playing ... With the bell, Broda jumps all over Renesto and hammers him around the ring. The small but brawling brute is quickly countered as Renesto Jr. shows what he can do on the mat. Tying up Broda, Renesto Jr. picks up the win with the abdominal stretch that has the Caveman crying uncle. Following the match, Renesto Jr. joins our hosts. Pringle with a short history lesson on Renesto's family with his father having wrestled and brother still in the business. Daddy was a successful member of the Assassins. Renesto talks fondly about his father but not so much about his brother. Percy pokes and prods for answers to which Renesto Jr. only gives up the fact that he and his brother had a disagreement and are not currently on speaking terms. Percy wishes him nothing but the best while here on the Cape. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, our hosts have been joined by the champ. Pringle welcomes him to the program while Baker wants to know why he's not defending the belt? Cheetah says that he's more than happy to put his belt on the line today against Jason Knight. He's a fighting champ and if the top of the line down to the last guy on the totem pole want a shot at this belt ... IT'S ON! Match 2: Title Match: The Cheetah Kid (C) versus Jason KnightA fairly athletic competition with Knight getting in a little offense before The Kid kicks it up a notch. Armdrags knock Knight loopy before the champ goes to the air. Spectacular head scissor very nearly ends the match but somehow the youngster is able to kick out at the last possible second. A diving clothesline leaves no doubt when Cheetah makes the cover. A display of sportsmanship as the masked man helps Jason Knight to his feet. Percy Pringle and Ox Baker go over the matches before telling us that Todd Tomko will be in action next week and our main event is Jonathan Rotten Esquire taking on Ray Odyssey ... should be a good one that you don't want to miss! We'll see you right back here next week for more Wrestling on the Cape! For Ox Baker, I'm "The Professor" Percival Pringle ... Good night!

This is a good start for The Cape. There's a familiarity to the work but always enough different to keep it interesting. I talked to Ray Odyssey a bit on the other board and he's a pretty nice guy so here's hoping he finds success on this show. Cheetah Kid is off to an impressive start but Rotten taking him to a draw might suggest that his number is coming. I'm not familiar with the Wrestling School Dropout gimmick but a quick Google search on it seems to suggest there could be fun to be had with it.

I do have a few of my "usual suspects" and while there might be a few things I've done before, I think I've got some new stuff to work in as well as an odd and unusual thing here and there.
Jotting down some notes when contemplating coming in, I wrote down "A love letter to Ted Petty" so don't be surprised if Rotten (the future Johnny Grunge) isn't taking the title so soon.
I talked to Odyssey a few years back and got the feeling he was a nice guy. He's part of my top tier hierarchy along with Cheetah and Rotten.
I saw the WSD as part of the Savoldi's ICW and thought it was hilarious. I believe there are a few ICW bits on Youtube with him and Tony Rumble. Bob Shoup is actually a talented wrestler and had much success as the Pink Assassin. Plans down the line to run that gimmick as well.

Every time I saw the name Bob Shoup in the free agent list, I'd think of this movie that always played on Saturday or Sunday afternoons on the FOX affiliate here when I was growing up called Summer School - the teacher's name was Mr. Shoop. That was my initial impetus to look him up so I've seen some of the Pink Assassin because of that, and yeah, entertaining character. Have never seen much of the Savoldi stuff. I think it would have interested me at the time but with so much footage available that I've never watched for old school fixes, it's pretty low on the list for me.

Wrestling on the CapeEpisode 2 from the WCVX Television Studios in Hyannis Taped Friday, March 4th, 1988 Airing Friday, March 11th, 1988 Ox Baker: You're watching Wrestling on the Cape ... and I want to hurt someone! With the end of the music, the camera zooms in on "The Professor", Percival Pringle who introduces his rather large and scary co-host, the indomitable Ox Baker. Baker says something about this place being like a car wreck because you can't turn away. Never the less, Percy welcomes everyone to Wrestling on the Cape and the Cape's very own 30 minutes of mayhem and mirth. He talks about Jonathan Rotten Esquire taking on Ray Odyssey in our main event. Rotten was the runner-up in the Battle Royal which the Cheetah Kid won to become the Champion but he's got his work cut out for him this evening in Ray Odyssey ... An older red-headed woman wanders out and looks a bit lost before joining a confused Pringle and Baker. When asked if they can help her, she goes on a rant about having been and still being the Women's World Champion. She's beaten everyone and even headlined in Madison Square Garden ... BUT ... something's not right. It is all very wrong ... Getting right up to the camera, she continues her rant about being able to "see him". She knows he's out there watching and it is because of him, it isn't right! Percy sends it to a commercial break as Ox Baker calls for security! x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, things are better left unsaid as Percy talks about Todd Tomko and tells his story as Tomko told it last week. Baker rambles about Al Tomko owing him some money and his fate if he shows his face in these parts. Match 1: Todd Tomko versus The Wrestling School DropoutThis one is lopsided with Tomko running roughshod all over his opponent who looks like he has no business being inside a wrestling ring. Tomko finishes him off with an abdominal stretch that has WSD crying uncle. Following the match, Tomko joins our hosts who congratulate him on his win. The Dropout steps in and says that Tomko's pretty good and was like an octopus putting the squeeze on him. Maybe, he'll get him next time? x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, our hosts have been joined by the champ who wants to sit in on our next match. He's here to scout someone who he will eventually have face sometime down the line which he looks forward to. Match 2: Ray Odyssey versus Jonathan Rotten, EsquireOdyssey runs out to the ring as "Wipe Out" plays before the sequin robed Rotten comes to the ring, brushing off the fans. Odyssey makes the mistake of turning his back on his opponent and Rotten jumps him from behind. After beating on the surfer for awhile, he throws Odyssey to the outside and soaks in the boos while strutting around the ring. Odyssey catches his breath and surpises Rotten with a slingshot sunset flip and getting a near pinfall. Odyssey rallies and has Rotten begging off but like his name, Jonathan is rotten to the core and resorts to cheating. The Cheetah Kid doesn't like this at all and is very vocal, trying to draw the referee's attention. Rotten says that The Kid's next, so better get that belt nice and clean. With the referee distracted, Jonathan Rotten pulls something from his tights and strikes Ray Odyssey in the throat with it. He makes the cover and gets the three count to pick up the win but The Cheetah Kid has seen enough and makes a beeline for the ring to argue with referee Tom Fornini. The veteran referee didn't see anything amiss and can only call what he saw. Enough is enough! Grabbing Jonathan Rotten, The Cheetah Kid reaches into the tights and pulls out the foreign object! Fornini immediately calls for the bell and reverses his decision ... giving the match to Ray Odyssey by Disqualification! Rotten tries to get at The Cheetah Kid but is held back by Fornini. The Cheetah Kid wants the referee to let him go as do all of the fans. Thinking better of it, Rotten leaves the ring but gives The Kid a warning to watch his back. The Champion helps Odyssey get to his feet while the fans cheer both men. Percy Pringle and Ox Baker go over the matches before telling us that nest week, we've got tag team wrestling with Johnny Hotbody and Tony Stetson in action! Tim Renesto squares off with The Invader! You don't want to miss any of the action! We'll see you right back here next week for more Wrestling on the Cape! For Ox Baker, I'm "The Professor" Percival Pringle ... Good night!

Interested to see where that Fabulous Moolah bit is going. Seems like a different idea than she's used to being presented with, borderline senile or something!
Not the greatest showing for The Wrestling School Dropout but I guess it fits the name.
It seems like it's headed towards a Cheetah Kid match with Jonathan Rotten but Ray Odyssey did win the match by DQ so a rematch could be of some benefit to settle this one first.

Wrestling on the CapeEpisode 3 from the WCVX Television Studios in Hyannis Taped Friday, March 11th, 1988 Airing Friday, March 18th, 1988 Ox Baker: You're watching Wrestling on the Cape ... and I want to hurt someone! With the end of the music, the camera zooms in on "The Professor", Percival Pringle who introduces his rather large and scary co-host, the indomitable Ox Baker. Baker says something about not knowing just who is going to show up. Never the less, Percy welcomes everyone to Wrestling on the Cape and the Cape's very own 30 minutes of mayhem and mirth. He talks about the big show on Saturday, March 26th from the Hyannis Armory! All of Cape Cod's best will be in action ... BUT before we get there, Saturday March 19th at Barnstable High School ... we have the CAPE COD CUP! It is a four team tag team tournament ... UH OH!It is the crazy old lady from last week wandering onto the set again, looking lost. Percy approaches and asks if he can help her? She tells him he can't help her because he doesn't "see" what is going on. Percy says he'd like to try ... she's Moolah who managed Greg Valentine a few years back in Houston ... she cuts him off and asks what else does he remember about her? He's at a head scratching loss over that one. She turns away from him and gets right up to the camera. She rants about it being just a matter of time before she finds "him" and when she does, she will set it all right! Percy sends it to a commercial break as Ox Baker calls for security! x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, things are better left unsaid as Percy and Ox have been joined by Jonathan Rotten, Esquire. Rotten talks about the Armory Show and wants a crack at the Cheetah Kid and that title sitting around his waist ... The fans cheer when Ray Odyssey runs out to join the trio. There seems to be a bit of confusion here with Rotten wanting a shot at the Cheetah Kid. It sounds like Johnny Rotten here is calling himself the #1 Contender and wanting a shot at something he doesn't deserve. Last week, right here on TV ... it was Ray Odyssey who walked out with the "W". Now, if Mr. Rotten wants to go again to see who is the #1 Contender, he's all in on that but to come out here before all these fans and demand he gets the shot just isn't right! The fans jeer Rotten who is now hot under the collar but if Ray Odyssey needs to "learn another lesson" then let's do this next week ... winner takes all and faces the Cheetah Kid at the Armory! Match 1: Tim Renesto versus The InvaderFairly even match in the beginning before Renesto takes advantage with his speed that frustrates his masked opponent. After a series of drop kicks, Renesto is able to roll Invader up for the 1! 2! 3! Following the match, Tim Renesto joins our hosts who congratulate him on his win. He looks annoyed when brother Tom Renesto Jr. makes his way out. Tom starts talking about the Cape Cod Cup and wants his brother to "Do the right thing" and team with him to "run the table" just like their father would have wanted. Tim's not interested but that doesn't stop Tom from talking about Legacy and carrying things on in their father's name. Tim cuts his brother off, asking why he's talking like their father is dead? Tom Sr. did his thing when he was in the business just like Tim is now doing his thing and he suggests that Tom Jr. do his thing. Percy sends it to a commercial. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, our hosts talk about the upcoming Cape Cod Cup Tournament at Barnstable High School on the 19th. Four teams will compete for the coveted Cup. Ox Baker talks about getting into the tournament and says he doesn't need a partner when Percy asks who would join him? Speaking of tag teams ... time for our next match ... Match 2: Brian Knighton & Caveman Broda versus Johnny Hotbody & Tony StetsonThe Philly duo heels it up while coming to the ring before attacking their opponents before the bell. Broda gets roughed up when isolated and not allowed to get back to his corner. The very young Knighton is able to make a hot tag and clears the ring with right hands before Hotbody and Stetson double team him. Broda is able to make the save before getting destroyed and pinned following a double suplex. Not satified with the victory, they put the boots to both men before throwing them to the outside. Percy Pringle and Ox Baker go over the matches before telling us that next week, we've got Jonathan Rotten facing Ray Odyssey for the right to face the Cheetah Kid for the title at the Armory! You don't want to miss any of the action! We'll see you right back here next week for more Wrestling on the Cape! For Ox Baker, I'm "The Professor" Percival Pringle ... Good night!

Wrestling on the CapeSaturday, March 19th from Barnstable High School in Hyannis, Mass. Home of the Red RaidersCape Cod Cup Opening Round Match: Jason Knight & Brian Knighton defeated the Wizard Joe Cagle & The Invader. Cape Cod Cup Opening Round Match: Johnny Hotbody & Tony Stetson steamrolled the Wrestling School Dropout & Caveman Broda. After the match, a disheveled Moolah came out to the ring and rambled on about this all being a bad dream and that she would prove that she is actually a World Champion Wrestler. The Wrestling School Dropout was her victim. While referee Tom Fornini tried to talk her out of it he finally relented when she threatened him with bodily harm. Moolah soundly thrashed the Wrestling School Dropout. A short intermission plugged both the weekly Television program as well as the house shows with the big one coming next Saturday at the Hyannis Armory! Heavyweight Champion Cheetah Kid successfully defended his title against the Super Bee. Cape Cod Cup Final Match: Johnny Hotbody & Tony Stetson picked up the win over Jason Knight & Brian Knighton. Following the match, they continued with the beating of the two young wrestlers before being chased off by referees Fornini and Bill Alfonso who threatened to reverse the decision. The show at the Hyannis Armory was plugged - Saturday, March 26th with tickets on sale NOW. Watch Friday's TV program for more information and match announcements.

I said last time that Moolah seems borderline senile, maybe I had it wrong though if the commentators don't remember much about her! While she's on the lookout for "him", hopefully some other women come to town so she can really show what she can do in the ring.
Big match on next week's show. I'm not liking Ray Odyssey's chances of taking that one.
It looks as if there is trouble brewing in the Renesto family.
While there was a tease there, I will be interested in seeing who pushes Ox Baker's buttons to turn that idle threat of entering the Cape Cod Cup into him actually stepping into the ring here (beyond the battle royal at least).
Johnny Hotbody & Tony Stetson winning the Cape Cod Cup should give them some bragging rights as the team to beat in the area. I like the concept as in a smaller territory like this, something like that tournament holds a lot more value.

Wrestling on the CapeEpisode 4 from the WCVX Television Studios in Hyannis Taped Friday, March 18th, 1988 Airing Friday, March 25th, 1988 Ox Baker: You're watching Wrestling on the Cape ... and I want to hurt someone! With the end of the music, the camera zooms in on "The Professor", Percival Pringle who introduces his rather large and scary co-host, the indomitable Ox Baker. Scary is right as we get a close up of the evilly smiling bushy eyed Baker who holds up a large menacing fist. Never the less, Percy welcomes everyone to Wrestling on the Cape and the Cape's very own 30 minutes of mayhem and mirth. He talks about the big show on Saturday, March 26th from the Hyannis Armory and today's program as we crown ourselves a #1 Contender to face the Champion, the Cheetah Kid! Jonathan Rotten, Esquire says he's the obvious choice but Ray Odyssey by way of a win by Disqualification says "not so fast". Today, we decide in the ring who gets the shot as Rotten and Odyssey go one-on-one! The fans cheer as Ray Odyssey makes his way out to join our hosts. They talk about Jonathan Rotten and today's match. Ray's pretty sure with the fans behind him, he's got this in the bag! Percy wishes him the best against a tough customer ... Big cheer goes up as the Cheetah Kid makes it a foursome. With the strap over his shoulder, he acknowledges the adoring fans. He's excited to be here and can't wait for today's Main Event. He wishes Ray the best of luck and looks forward to facing Ray sometime in the very near future. When asked if he would prefer Ray beating Jonathan Rotten, Cheetah says he's here to face the best of the best ... if that means putting his title up against Ray at the Armory, he's all for it and if it happens to be Rotten ... well, he's faced him before and knows that he can beat him. The two shake hands as Percy sends it to a commercial break! x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, Percy and Ox talk about something that has so far been absent from today's show ... the mysterious enigma, Moolah. While she wrestled some years back and was a pretty darn good one at that, minus a stint as Greg Valentine's valet, she's been absent from the business. Ox thinks she's taken one too many shots to the head ... Talk turns to the Armory Show on the 26th. The Cheetah Kid will be defending his title! Ray Odyssey, Jonathan Rotten Esquire and Jumpin' Joe Savoldi will all be in action! And this guy ... Tag team specialist, Nightmare Danny Davis ... Match 1: Mike Sundance versus Nightmare Danny Davis. Referee Tom Fornini. They talk about Davis and his successful career in tag and singles competition while he puts a whoopin' on Sundance. Flying crossbody snares him a win in his Cape Cod debut. Following the match, Davis is called over and welcomed to the area. Davis says this is off the beaten path for him but he looks forward to the new competition. When asked about his choice of singles or tag action, Davis says he's just here to wrestle and imagines he'll be doing a little bit of both ... we'll just have to wait and see. Percy sends it to a commercial. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xLOCAL COMMERCIALS x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-xBack from the break, our hosts sell the show from the Armory before discussing the #1 Contender match between Rotten and Odyssey. Baker thinks Rotten's got this because Odyssey doesn't have the killer instinct. The Professor thinks it is up in the air as the two match up well ... Match 2: Jonathan Rotten versus Ray Odyssey. Referee: Bill Alfonso.New referee Bill Alfonso calling the shots in this one and runs into trouble right off the bat as Rotten refuses to allow the referee to check for foreign objects. Alfonso asserts himself to get some cooperation to start the match. The start off going back and forth with Rotten blitzing Odyssey right from the bell but the fan favorite has an answer and is able to counter. Odyssey frustrates Rotten when very nearly putting him down as the fans get behind the surfer and get loud. Real loud! So much so, Rotten has to leave the ring to clear his head and hear himself think. Big mistake as Ray Odyssey uses the ropes to slingshot himself to the outside and take down Rotten. The two brawl on the outside before taking it back into the ring where Rotten takes over following an eye rake. Odyssey takes a beating before clearing his eyes and making a come back. He nearly rolls up Rotten who is able to kick out at the very last possible instant. Forearms catch Rotten and wobble him. Throwing himself back against the ropes, Odyssey shoots forward before launching himself in the air ... FLYING CROSS BODY BLOCK! The two roll through and Jonathan Rotten holds on to Odyssey's tights for dear life ... 1! 2! 3! The main event saw The Cheetah Kid retain his title against number one contender, Jonathan Rotten Esquire in a battle that saw the match spill out into the audience at times. Good main event for TV. Jonathan Rotten got by Ray Odyssey with the tights but since the title shot against Cheetah Kid didn't turn out well for him, I'm thinking it won't take much for Odyssey to stay in the chase, especially after the Eddie Watts win.
No sign of Moolah. Maybe she got lost on her way to the building and forgot where it is!
Nightmare Danny Davis coming to the area is a big acquisition. In some territories, he might have some trouble off of size, but I think he could handle himself well in singles here. So far, so good with two singles wins picked up.
Nice to see Ox Baker come out on top in the battle royal. I would imagine at some point, something will happen with him out there on TV each week, drawing him into a rivalry - although the same could probably be said for Percy Pringle being drawn out as a manager.
