Tiger Mask cuts a promo after the match, saying that’s one down, two more to go before he gets his hands on Genichiro Tenryu and the All-Asia title!
KENJI WAKABAYASHI and TAKASHI YAMADA open the show.
They welcome us to this week’s episode of World Wrestling Kingdom!
Two weeks ago, Tiger Mask II was attacked by Genichiro Tenryu and his Revolution Army. Tiger Mask issued a challenge to Tenryu for an All-Asia title match, with Tenryu saying that if Tiger Mask beat the other members of the Revolution Army, then he could have his title match.
Last week, Tiger Mask was successful against Ashura Hara. This week, he’ll meet the dangerous Masa Saito!
Plus, the Three Muskateers, Keiji Mutoh, Masa Chono and Shinya Hashimoto, meet the Calgary Hurricanes, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and Wild Pegasus, in a World 6-man tag team title tournament quarter final match!
Two former NWA World champions team up, as Dory Funk Jr joins forces with Giant Baba, to meet current World heavyweight champion Stan Hansen, and Ted Dibiase!
The Barbarian and the Warlord meet Mighty Inoue and Toshiaki Kawada in another tag team match!
Jacques and Raymond Rougeau team up with fellow French Canadian Rick Martel to face the British trio of Dynamite Kid, Steven Regal and Fit Finlay!
THE AMAZING FRENCH CANADIANS: RICK MARTEL & JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU beat DYNAMITE KID & FIT FINLAY & STEVEN REGAL. We kick things off with some international flavour, as the Amazing French Canadians face the British trio of Dynamite, Finlay and Regal.
The match is a scientific affair, although Finlay occasionally tries to turn it into a brawl. In the end, the French Canadian team gets the win when Raymond hits Regal with a German suplex, just as Jacques comes off the top rope with a diving clothesline, connecting with the clothesline at the same time Raymond hits the suplex. Raymond then covers Regal for the 1, 2, 3!
THE WARLORD & THE BARBARIAN (w/ Bad News Allen) beat MIGHTY INOUE & TOSHIAKI KAWADA. The Warlord and Barbarian steamroll their opponents, getting the win when Warlord holds Inoue in a backbreaker over his knee, with Barbarian delivering a kneedrop to the head of Inoue for the 1, 2, 3!
After getting their hands raised, the Warlord and Barbarian continue to attack their opponents, with Bad News Allen coming in and joining them!
Wakabayashi and Yamada discuss the World 6-man tag team title tournament. Last week, the Revolution Army defeated Giant Baba, Dory Funk Jr and Mighty Inoue.
VTR: Revolution Army vs Baba/Dory/Inoue, 11-20-87, JIP:
Baba and Dory Funk might be getting long in the tooth, but both men are more than capable of holding their own against any opponent! After a hard-hitting, back and forth match, the Revolution Army gets the win when Tenryu pins Mighty Inoue with a Folding Powerbomb!
END VTR
They then show a graphic featuring the 7 teams that are still in the tournament:
The Revolution Army: Genichiro Tenryu, Riki Choshu and Masa Saito!
People’s Army: Tatsumi Fujinami, Antonio Inoki and Tiger Mask II!
The Amazing French Canadians: Rick Martel & Jacques & Raymond Rougeau!
The Outlaws: Ted Dibiase, Dick Slater and Bob Orton Jr!
The Calgary Hurricanes: Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and Wild Pegasus!
The Powers of Pain: the Barbarian, the Warlord and Bad News Allen!
The Three Muskateers: Keiji Mutoh, Masa Chono and Shinya Hashimoto!
STAN HANSEN & TED DIBIASE beat GIANT BABA & DORY FUNK JR. Baba and Funk are two of the biggest names in the history of wrestling in Japan, both are former World champions, and despite getting long in the tooth, both can still go in the ring!
Despite Baba and Funk giving a good showing of themselves, Hansen and Dibiase get the win when Hansen drops Baba with an absolutely devastating Western Lariat for the 1, 2, 3!
After the match, Dory Funk Jr takes the house mic, and says that he’s held the World title before, and says that he’s generally recognized as one of the greatest NWA champions of all time! He says that he knows his career is coming to an end, but he wants one more opportunity to hold the World title, and challenges Hansen to put the WWK World Heavyweight title on the line against him!
Hansen agrees, but warns Funk that it will be the last match Dory ever wrestles!
We go to the locker room, where Tatsumi Fujinami, Antonio Inoki, Tiger Mask II and Yoshiaki Yatsu are standing by.
Fujinami says that Genichiro Tenryu’s Revolution Army thinks that they can run roughshod over everyone in the World Wrestling Kingdom, but the three of them aren’t going to let that happen!
The Dragon says that they are the People’s Army, and they’re prepared to go to war with the Revolution Army!
Inoki says that wrestling is about athletic competition, it’s about fighting spirit, and it’s about sportsmanship! He says that there is no place in professional wrestling for the type of antics that we’re seeing from the Revolution Army! He says that they will not rest until they’ve made things right, and rid the World Wrestling Kingdom of the Tenryu and his goons!
Yatsu says that, as a former Olympian, he believes in fair and honest competition, and that’s not something that the Revolution Army have any interest in! He says that he offered his help to these men, not because they need it, but because he believes in their cause, and wants to be a part of it!
Tiger Mask says that he beat Ashura Hara last week, and today, he’s going to beat Masa Saito! Then Riki Choshu is the only thing that stands between him and Genichiro Tenryu!
WORLD 6-MAN TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT:
QUARTER FINAL MATCH:
THE THREE MUSKATEERS: KEIJI MUTOH & MASA CHONO & SHINYA HASHIMOTO defeat THE CALGARY HURRICANES: OWEN HART & BRIAN PILLMAN & WILD PEGASUS. The Calgary Hurricanes live up to their name, as they fly around the ring at a lightning-quick pace! Mutoh, Chono and Hashimoto try to slow things down, and rely more on mat wrestling and striking.
Eventually that strategy works, as the Muskateers are able to ground their opponents, and wear them down on the mat. In the end, Hashimoto hits Wild Pegasus with a Brainbuster, for the pinfall victory!
TIGER MASK II beats MASA SAITO. Tiger Mask made short work of Ashura Hara last week, but has a much harder time here against Saito! Saito dominates the early going, using his power advantage to pummel the masked man. Tiger Mask II takes a horrendous amount of abuse throughout the match, but shows his fighting spirit as he won’t stay down!
As the match progresses Tiger Mask eventually turns the tables, and after stunning Saito with a Tiger Feint kick, the masked man connects with a Tiger Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
Wakabayashi and Yamada wrap things up, and hype next week’s show, where the World 6-man tag team title tournament will continue, as the People’s Army of Tatsumi Fujinami, Antonio Inoki and Tiger Mask II square off with the Barbarian, the Warlord and Bad News Allen!
