BILLY RED LYONS and PAT PATTERSON open the show!
Billy Red and Patterson welcome us to Lansdowne Park, home of the Ottawa Roughriders, in the Nation’s capital, for Canada Day Clash!
Lyons and Patterson thank the fans for choosing to spend their Canada Day afternoon with the stars of Pro Wrestling Canada!
They then introduce BRYAN ADAMS to sing the national anthem!
We then see short promos from the 16 men involved in the Battle Royal. Each man predicts he’ll win, with some of the wrestlers saying that this is their opportunity to prove that they’re tougher than the biggest and baddest of the Canadian Football League!
16-MAN BATTLE ROYAL:
In the early going, with all 16 men in the ring together, there’s action everywhere, as the wrestlers and CFL All-Stars all tear into each other, each man looking to gain an early advantage.
Tony Parisi is eliminated early, as CFL players Leo Blanchard and Harold Hallman join forces, to back Parisi into the corner, and then dump him over!
Barbarian and Warlord double-team the Canadian National champ Dino Bravo, one of their opponents in a 6-man tag match later today, but Bravo’s tag partner Otto Wanz quickly comes over to help Bravo fight them off. Wanz, the strongman from Austria, gets the behemoth Warlord up onto the ropes, then dumps him over!
The football players start to get eliminated, first Chris Walby of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers is shoved over the top and to the floor by Hamilton’s Marv Allemang. Unfortunately for Allemang, Nord the Viking attacks him, nails him with some rights and lefts, then hoists Allemang up, pushing him over the top rope. From the floor, Walby grabs ahold of Allemang and helps by pulling him towards the floor.
Walby and Allemang then brawl on the floor and down the aisle towards the locker room!
Stan Hansen eliminates Dan Farrone of the Toronto Argonauts, John Blain of the BC Lions, and Otto Wanz in quick succession!
We’re down to 9 now, five CFL players and four wrestlers!
Nord the Viking is the next one eliminated, as Dino Bravo hits him with a dropkick near the ropes, sending Nord tumbling over the top and all the way down to the floor!
As Dino Bravo brawls with Stan Hansen, the Barbarian eliminates Roger Aldag of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders, and the Calgary Stampeder’s Harold Hallman!
Canadian National champion Dino Bravo is eliminated by Stan Hansen!
While Hansen eliminates Bravo, the Barbarian is ganged up on by the three remaining CFL players, Brett Williams, Leo Blanchard and Jim Reid. They manage to shove him over the top rope!
We’re down to the final four, Stan Hansen, and three CFL players!
Hansen quickly eliminates the Edmonton Eskimos’ Leo Blanchard! Brett Williams and Jim Reid immediately jump on Hansen, looking to eliminate the “Unsinkable Battleship” from the match.
Hansen eliminates Montreal’s Brett Williams moments later, knocking him over the top rope!
This leaves us with two, Hansen and the hometown hero, the Ottawa Roughriders’ Jim Reid!
Reid puts up a valiant effort, throwing punches at Hansen with reckless abandon, but in the end, Hansen turns the tables, and shoves Reid over the top rope for the win!
THE RIOT SQUAD: TED DIBIASE & DICK SLATER & BAD NEWS ALLEN defeat TONY PARISI & GINO BRITO SR & GINO BRITO JR. Dibiase gets the win for the Riot Squad, when he locks Gino Brito Jr in the Figure-4 Leglock for the submission victory.
Lyons and Patterson talk about the rivalry between Tiger Mask II and Black Tiger.
We see footage of their previous singles match, where Black Tiger cheated to win, then clips of them on opposite sides of a tag team match.
TIGER MASK II defeats BLACK TIGER. These two are quite evenly-matched, though Tiger Mask II has a size advantage, but Black Tiger is lightning-quick, so he has a speed advantage. It’s back and forth action from bell to bell here, and in the end, Tiger Mask II gets the win, when he pins Black Tiger with the Tiger Suplex!
Lyons and Patterson talk about the rivalry that has developed recently between Owen Hart and the reigning World Mid-Heavyweight champ Dynamite Kid.
VTR: PWC TV, 5-28-87:
After the match, Lyons and Patterson are joined by Owen Hart. Lyons says that we heard the news last week, Owen will challenge the Dynamite Kid for the World Mid-Heavyweight championship at the Great Canadian Bash on June 13!
Owen says that this is the opportunity of a lifetime! He says that he’s only been wrestling professionally for a short time, but he feels that he’s ready this match, and he’s ready to become World champion!
At this point, they’re joined by the reigning champion Dynamite Kid.
DK says that he’s known Owen for many years, he watched Owen grow up while at the same time, beating the hell out of Owen’s brothers, out in Calgary! Dynamite says that maybe Owen’s forgot, that it was Dynamite that helped train him. He says that he knows Owen better than anybody, and that knowledge is going to give him the upper hand on June 13!
Owen says that he’s looking forward to the match, and offers his hand. Dynamite looks at him, with a smirk on his face, then just turns and walks away.
END VTR
Dynamite and Owen then met, one on one, for the World Mid-Heavyweight championship at the Great Canadian Bash.
VTR: Dynamite Kid vs Owen Hart, 6-13-87, JIP:
Dynamite Kid comes to the ring with Fit Finlay, who had a series of matches with Owen back in the Spring, and Finlay jaws with Hart before the start of the match.
Owen is clearly distracted by the Irishman at ringside, and this gives Dynamite the opportunity to jump Owen from behind, and control the early going. Throughout the match, every time Owen seems to get something going, Finlay interjects himself, distracting Hart, and giving DK a chance to recover and go back on the offensive.
In the end, this is something Owen is unable to overcome, and Dynamite gets the win after a snap suplex, followed by a diving headbutt from the top rope for the 1, 2, 3.
END VTR
Lyons says that Owen then challenged DK and Finlay to a tag team match, and has asked his friend Brian Pillman to be his tag team partner.
DYNAMITE KID & FIT FINLAY defeat OWEN HART & BRIAN PILLMAN. Owen wants to start the match against Dynamite Kid, and DK looks like he’s game . . . but then steps through the ropes, and Fit Finlay starts instead. Owen and Finlay have unfinished business, and they tear into each other to start the match! Finlay uses underhanded tactics to take control early on. Throughout the match, every time it looks like Owen might get his hands on Dynamite, the Mid-Heavyweight champ tags out to Finlay!
Finally, Dynamite has no choice, as Owen tags in, while Pillman holds Dynamite’s arm, with Owen coming off the top rope with a double axehandle to DK’s arm. Owen throws the champion around like a ragdoll for the next several minutes, and seems to have a counter for everything Dynamite tries!
Late in the match, there’s a ref bump, as Owen gets Dynamite up on his shoulders for an Airplane Spin, one of DK’s legs hits the referee, knocking him down. Owen stays on the offensive, and moments later, he catches Dynamite with the missile dropkick from the top rope! Owen covers the champion, but the referee is still down.
Finlay quickly goes to the top rope, and delivers a kneedrop down across the back of Owen’s head, then rolls Dynamite on top of Hart, just as the referee shakes off the cobwebs. The referee sees Dynamite on top of Owen, and counts the 1, 2, 3!
Dynamite Kid has once again stolen a win for Owen Hart, thanks to Fit Finlay!
Lyons and Patterson introduce a special guest, a man we haven’t seen in Canada since he and Barry Windham lost a match back in March to the Andersons, with the stipulation that the losing team had to leave town for 90 days . . . Scott Hall!
Hall is happy to be back in Pro Wrestling Canada! He says that Windham couldn’t return with him, he had family business to take care of in New York.
Hall says that he’s looking forward to a singles career now in Canada, and says that he’s setting his sights on either the International or Canadian National titles!
DINO BRAVO & GIORGOS TROMARAS & OTTO WANZ battle ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER & THE POWERS OF PAIN: THE BARBARIAN & THE WARLORD (w/ Mr Fuji) to a wild No Contest. Eventually we end up with all six men brawling in the ring, the referee tries to get order restored, but it’s not happening. Finally he has no choice but to throw the match out and declare it a No Contest.
Lyons and Patterson talk about the main event, a 6-man tag team match, where the losing team must leave Canada! They talk about the history between International heavyweight champion Rick Martel, and the man that he took the title from, Tully Blanchard.
VTR: Blanchard & Orton vs Martel & Bravo, 6-5-87, JIP:
Tully Blanchard throws Rick Martel through the ropes and to the floor, and while Tully distracts the referee, Bob Orton Jr nails Martel in the knee with a chair! Martel is in tremendous pain as Orton rolls him back into the ring. Tully is waiting, and he immediately starts stomping on the now injured knee of Martel!
Tully then slaps on the Figure-4 Leglock! Dino Bravo comes in to try and save his partner, but he’s intercepted by Bob Orton Jr. Martel tries to find a way out of the hold, but Tully’s got it cinche in tight, right in the middle of the ring! Martel finally submits, giving the win to Tully and Orton!
However, Tully doesn’t release the hold! JJ Dillon throws the referee out of the ring when the ref tries to pry Tully off of Martel.
Dillon and Orton then put the boots to Dino Bravo, and anybody else that tries to help Martel!
Jacques and Raymond Rougeau quickly hit the ring, and along with Dino Bravo, they chase Orton, Tully and Dillon from the ring, then help Martel to the back.
Martel can’t put any pressure on the leg as he’s helped to the locker room.
END VTR
That led to the International title match 8 days later, and the question as to whether or not Martel’s knee would hold up as he attempted to wrest the title from Tully Blanchard.
VTR: Blanchard vs Martel, 6-13-87, JIP:
Martel takes a beating, but he shows his guts and determination by continuing to fight back! Late in the match, Tully goes for the Figure-4 Leglock, the same hold he used to injure Martel’s knee in the first place, but Martel quickly kicks him off, sending Tully into the corner. Martel then hoists Tully up and delivers a Backdrop Suplex, but unfortunately with his knee in the condition it’s in, he can’t get much behind the move.
It looks like Martel might be in just too much pain to overcome. Tully, sensing this, goes right back at the knee again, then delivers a suplex that plants Martel on the mat, right in the middle of the ring.
Tully motions that it’s time for the Figure-4 again, but as he goes to apply it, Martel sits up, grabs Tully’s head, and rolls him up into a small package!
The referee is right there to count . . .

Tully Blanchard and the Andersons must now leave Canada!
Lyons and Patterson wrap things up, and remind us to tune in to Pro Wrestling Canada Saturday afternoon for all the fallout from Canada Day Clash!
