BILLY RED LYONS and PAT PATTERSON open the show!
Billy Red and Patterson welcome us to Toronto for this week’s episode of Pro Wrestling Canada!
This week, the Great Hossein Arab will be in action! Three of the strongest men in the sport join forces again, as Dino Bravo teams up with Giorgos Tromaras and Otto Wanz for a 6-man tag team match!
Tully Blanchard and the Andersons will be in action! We’ll see the Riot Squad in 6-man tag team action as well!
Stan Hansen will be in action against a man that may be able to match the destructive force of Stan Hansen, in Canadian star Bulldog Bob Brown! Jacques and Raymond Rougeau are scheduled to team up with Rick Martel for a 6-man tag match, but we’re not sure what Martel’s condition is after what took place on last week’s show.
The feature bout will see Owen Hart team up with World Middleweight champion El Hijo del Santo, and they’ll face World Mid-Heavyweight champ Dynamite Kid and Black Tiger!
GREAT HOSSEIN ARAB (w/ Mr Fuji) defeats LANNY POFFO. Hossein attacks Poffo as soon as the bell rings, and pummels him to start the match. Poffo makes a brief comeback, hitting Hossein with several forearms that stun the Iranian, but Hossein quickly turns the tables, driving a knee into Poffo’s stomach, then going back on the offensive. Hossein targets Poffo’s back, and moments later, he locks on the Camel Clutch for the submission.
After the match, Lyons and Patterson are joined by Hossein Arab and Mr Fuji. Lyons says that tomorrow night at the Great Canadian Bash, Hossein has the opportunity to regain the Canadian National heavyweight championship from Dino Bravo.
Hossein says that he will defeat Bravo, and take the belt back to Iran, he’s sick of this country.
Fuji says that the belt itself means nothing to Hossein, he doesn’t care about a title that represents this pitiful country. What he cares about is making Dino Bravo suffer!
Hossein wraps things up with his usual line, “Iran number 1, Canada, ACK PHOOEY!”
DINO BRAVO & GIORGOS TROMARAS & OTTO WANZ defeat GOLDIE ROGERS & THE MASKED MARVELS. The strongman trio of Bravo, Tromaras and Wanz make short work of their opponents. The Canadian National champion gets the win, hitting Rogers with a Backdrop Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
Billy Red and Patterson discuss what happened at the end of last week’s show, involving the Dillon Dynasty, and Rick Martel.
VTR: Martel & Bravo vs Blanchard & Orton, 6-4-87, JIP:
Late in the match, Tully Blanchard throws Rick Martel through the ropes and to the floor, and while Tully distracts the referee, Bob Orton Jr nails Martel in the knee with a chair! Martel is in tremendous pain as Orton rolls him back into the ring. Tully is waiting, and he immediately starts stomping on the now injured knee of Martel!
Tully then slaps on the Figure-4 Leglock! Dino Bravo comes in to try and save his partner, but he’s intercepted by Bob Orton Jr. Martel tries to find a way out of the hold, but Tully’s got it cinche in tight, right in the middle of the ring! Martel finally submits, giving the win to Tully and Orton!
However, Tully doesn’t release the hold! JJ Dillon throws the referee out of the ring when the ref tries to pry Tully off of Martel.
Dillon and Orton then put the boots to Dino Bravo, and anybody else that tries to help Martel!
Jacques and Raymond Rougeau quickly hit the ring, and along with Dino Bravo, they chase Orton, Tully and Dillon from the ring, then help Martel to the back.
Martel can’t put any pressure on the leg as he’s helped to the locker room.
END VTR
Lyons says that they have received word that Martel will wrestle alongside the Rougeaus here today, though one has to wonder if he’s just taking an unnecessary risk one day before he challenges Tully Blanchard for the International title?
Patterson says that he’s known Rick Martel a long time, and the man has more guts and more determination than anyone he’s ever known! He says that Rick knows people tuned in today to see him wrestle, and he won’t want to let them down, even if it means risking further injury to his knee.
Lyons and Patterson are then joined by JJ Dillon, International heavyweight champion Tully Blanchard and the Andersons.
Tully Blanchard has a smile on his face, and says that he can’t get enough of that footage, he wants them to run it again, just so he can get another look at the pain and the agony on the face of Rick Martel!
Blanchard says that he’s heard people saying that he did what he did, because he’s afraid of Martel, afraid that Martel is going to take this International title from him! Tully laughs, and says that Tully Blanchard fears NO MAN! Rick Martel isn’t in his league, he doesn't stand a chance of winning the International title. He says that he did what he did simply to amuse himself, because watching Rick Martel limping around on his bum leg makes him laugh!
Lyons says that he’s got some news that Tully certainly won’t be laughing about . . . the Canadian Boxing & Wrestling Commission, the group comprised of the provincial athletic commissions, and the sanctioning body for all wrestling and boxing here in Canada, has decided to fine Tully $10,000 for his actions last week!
Tully says that’s no big deal, and tells Dillon to take care of it. We see Dillon pull out a bundle of cash, and start counting it.
Lyons says that the Andersons will face the Rougeau brothers at the Great Canadian Bash.
Ole says that there’s no better place to face the Rougeaus than in Jacques and Raymond’s hometown of Montreal. Defeating them in front of their friends and family will make the win that much sweeter!
Arn says that he and Ole are the pinnacle of tag team wrestling, there isn’t a team on the face of the earth that can match up to them! He says that they’ll prove it when they take the Rougeau brothers apart, piece by piece, tomorrow night at the Montreal Forum!
TULLY BLANCHARD & OLE & ARN ANDERSON (w/ James J Dillon) defeat FRANKIE LAINE & NICK DECARLO & BOB MARCUS. Blanchard and the Andersons get the win, after methodically wearing their opponents down, and Tully hits the Slingshot Suplex on DeCarlo for the pinfall.
THE RIOT SQUAD: TED DIBIASE & DICK SLATER & BAD NEWS ALLEN defeat KEITH HART & DON KOLOV & GINO BRITO JR. Dibiase gets the win for the Riot Squad when he locks Keith Hart in the Figure-4 Leglock for the submission victory.
Billy Red says that the summer is really heating up here in Canada, especially in the wrestling world! He says that tomorrow night, it’s the Great Canadian Bash at the famed Montreal Forum, and then on Canada Day, they’ll have a nationally televised event from Lansdowne Park in the nation’s capital, it’s Canada Day Clash!
Lyons says that we’ll have more information about the big TV event, but one match that has already been signed will be a 16-man Battle Royal, featuring wrestlers and all-stars from the Canadian Football League!
So far, the names that have been announced include: wrestlers Stan Hansen, Nord the Viking, Otto Wanz, Dino Bravo, the Powers of Pain, and Tony Parisi, as well as CFL all-stars Dan Ferrone of the Toronto Argos, Harold Hallman from the Calgary Stampeders, Brett Williams of the Montreal Alouettes, Marv Allemang from the Hamilton Ti-Cats, Leo Blanchard representing the Edmonton Eskimos, Jim Reid from the Ottawa Rough Riders, John Blain of the BC Lions, Roger Aldag from the Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Chris Walby of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers!
STAN HANSEN defeats BULLDOG BOB BROWN. This is Hansen’s first real singles challenge since he arrived in Canada, but unfortunately for the Bulldog, the result is the same, as Hansen steamrolls Brown, and connects with a devastating Lariat for the 1, 2, 3!
Just like the rest of Hansen's opponents, Brown is fitted with a neckbrace and taken from ringside on a stretcher.
RICK MARTEL & JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU defeat HUBERT GALLANT & SHEIK ALI & ROCKY DELLA SERRA. Martel is noticeably limping on his way to the ring, and he spends most of the match on the apron, as the Rougeaus take care of business. Martel does come in to work over Hubert Gallant at one point, but doesn’t stay in long, tagging Jacques Rougeau back in. In the end, Raymond holds Gallant in a Bearhug, as Jacques dives off the top rope with a clothesline! Jacques then covers Gallant for the 1, 2, 3.
OWEN HART & EL HIJO DEL SANTO defeat DYNAMITE KID & BLACK TIGER. These four men will face off in singles matches tomorrow night at the Great Canadian Bash, where Owen will look to take the World Mid-Heavyweight title from Dynamite Kid, while El Hijo del Santo will defend the World Middleweight title against Black Tiger.
The action is fast and furious here, and in the end, Owen picks up the win when he connects with a missile dropkick from the top rope on Dynamite Kid, and pins him for the 1, 2, 3!
Owen Hart has pinned the World Mid-Heavyweight champion! Can he do it again for the title tomorrow night at the Great Canadian Bash?
Lyons and Patterson wrap things up, and hype tomorrow night’s Great Canadian Bash, as well as next week’s show, where we’ll have more information on the upcoming Canada Day Clash!
