BILLY RED LYONS and PAT PATTERSON open the show!
Billy Red and Patterson welcome us to the nation’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario, for this week’s episode of Pro Wrestling Canada’s Friday Night Fights!
This week, we’ll see the Riot Squad, Ted Dibiase and Dick Slater in action, as they team with Bad News Allen! Stan Hansen will be here! The Rougeau brothers will be in tag team action!
We’ve got mid-heavyweight action on tap this week, as Owen Hart teams up with Tiger Mask II and rookie “Flyin” Brian Pillman to face Wild Pegasus, Fit Finlay and the mysterious Black Tiger!
International heavyweight champion Tully Blanchard joins up with fellow Dillon Dynasty members, and reigning Canadian National tag team champions, Ole and Arn Anderson for 6-man tag team action against “Soulman” Rocky Johnson, the strongman from Oregon Billy Jack Haynes, and rookie Pierre Ouellet!
And, Rick Martel and Dino Bravo, the winners of the first World Cup tag team tournament, will meet Canadian National champion Great Hossein Arab, and the Great Gama Singh!
Plus, we’ll take a look at Greek strongman Giorgos Tromaras!
BAD NEWS ALLEN & THE RIOT SQUAD: TED DIBIASE & DICK SLATER defeat NICK DECARLO & THE KILLER BEES. Allen, Dibiase and Slater attack their opponents before the bell sounds, and we’ve got a wild 6-man melee to start the match! Eventually things settle down, and the heels take turns working over Nick DeCarlo. The Killer Bees come back into the ring to help their partner, which brings Slater and Dibiase in as well, and we’ve got another wild donneybrook! While that’s going on, Allen connects with a kneedrop from the second rope to the throat of DeCarlo, and covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
STAN HANSEN defeats DAN KROFFAT. The youngster shows that he’s got guts and determination, as he goes toe to toe with Hansen! However, it doesn’t bode well for him, as Hansen pounds Kroffat to a pulp, before connecting with a vicious Lariat, and pinning Kroffat by placing a foot on his chest!
Afterwards, Kroffat, just like most of Hansen’s other opponents, is fitted with a neckbrace and taken from the ring on a stretcher. Hansen just stands by, watching and laughing!
JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU defeat TIM GERRARD & GOLDIE ROGERS. The Rougeaus get the win when Raymond holds Rocco up in a bearhug, and Jacques delivers a diving clothesline from the top rope, then pins Gerrard for the 1, 2, 3!
On commentary during the match, Billy Red and Patterson talk about the fact that the Rougeaus are the #1 contenders to the Canadian National tag team titles, and they will get their shot at those belts on June 13 in Montreal at the Great Canadian Bash!
Billy Red and Patterson are joined at the announce desk by Rick Martel. Lyons congratulates Martel on him and Dino Bravo winning the World Cup tournament.
Martel says that it was a grueling tournament, but he knew all along that he and Dino had what it takes to win the whole thing!
Patterson says that they defeated Bob Orton Jr and International champion Tully Blanchard in the semi finals, when Martel pinned the champion Blanchard.
VTR: Martel & Bravo vs Blanchard & Orton, JIP:
In the end, we have all four men brawling in the ring, until the referee manages to get Bravo out, but while that’s happening, Tully and Orton try to double-team Martel. Rick is ready for them, though, and he hits Orton with a dropkick that sends him through the ropes and to the floor!
Blanchard swings at Martel with a haymaker, but Ricky ducks, then grabs Tully and delivers a big Atomic Drop! With Tully on the mat, Martel climbs through the ropes, and standing on the apron, he uses the top rope to deliver a Slingshot Splash over the top rope, back into the ring, and onto Tully for the 1, 2, 3!
Rick Martel has pinned the International champion Tully Blanchard!
END VTR
Billy Red says that he was informed just before they went on the air that, as a result of Martel’s win-loss record here in Pro Wrestling Canada, and that pinfall victory over the International champion, the Championship Committee has named Martel the #1 contender to the International title, and he will face Tully Blanchard for that belt at the Great Canadian Bash on June 13 at the Montreal Forum!
Martel says that this is the opportunity of a lifetime, and with these great fans behind him, there’s no way that Tully can beat him!
BLACK TIGER & FIT FINLAY & WILD PEGASUS defeat OWEN HART & TIGER MASK II & BRIAN PILLMAN. Lyons and Patterson have a hard time keeping up with all the action in this one! Several times throughout the match, we have all six men in the ring at the same time, and we see plenty of brawling on the arena floor as well!
There’s great scientific wrestling, and plenty of high-flying moves, such as Owen connecting with a top-rope dropkick on Pegasus, Pegasus hitting a Moonsault onto Pillman, and Tiger Mask II leaping off the top rope with a bodypress onto all three opponents on the floor!
In the end, Black Tiger picks up the win for his team, when he pins Pillman after a Tombstone piledriver, followed by a somersault splash off the ropes.
Lyons says that they’ve got a video to show us, that originally aired on Greek television last year, featuring Giorgos Tromaras. In this video, we’re going to see the Greek strongman perform an astounding feat of strength, as he will pull not one, not two, but TEN cars!
TULLY BLANCHARD & OLE & ARN ANDERSON (w/ James J Dillon & Bob Orton Jr) defeat ROCKY JOHNSON & BILLY JACK HAYNES & PIERRE OUELLET. Johnson, Haynes and the rookie Ouellet put up a good fight, and give Dillon’s team some anxious moments. In the end, though, the heels pick up the victory when Tully Blanchard wears Ouellet down, and connects with the Slingshot Suplex for the 1, 2, 3!
RICK MARTEL & DINO BRAVO defeat GREAT HOSSEIN ARAB (w/ Mr. Fuji) & GREAT GAMA SINGH. We’re treated to an action-packed match here. Hossein and Great Gama are both capable of matching Martel and Bravo hold for hold, and they’re far more willing to bend, or outright break, the rules to gain an advantage!
In the end, Bravo and Martel prevail when Bravo hoists Hossein up in an Airplane Spin before dropping him to the mat, and covering the Canadian National champion for the 1, 2, 3!
Lyons and Patterson wrap things up. Lyons says that next week, we’ll see a HUGE 6-man tag team match, as Rick Martel teams up with the Rougeau brothers to face Tully Blanchard and the Andersons! Plus, we’ll get some more information about the Great Canadian Bash! Don’t ya dare miss it!
