Airing LIVE on TBS 9/16/96 from Orlando, FL
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’S BOMBTRACK opens the broadcast as the camera pans across a filled to the rafters Amway Arena
Tony Schiavone, the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko, and the American Dream Dusty Rhodes welcome us to the broadcast and go over last week’s HUGE announcement, than in just 6 days time, WARGAMES: THE MATCH BEYOND will be coming to us once again from Fall Brawl, just down the road in the beautiful St. Pete Times Forum. On one side we will see STING, LEX LUGER, and DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE, and on the other side, the Heavyweight Champion of the World CURT HENNIG, SCOTT NORTON, and BUFF BAGWELL. Both teams are expected to reveal their 4th team members tonight! Larry Legend says that he spoke with Curt earlier today and THEIR 4th MEMBER IS IN THE BUILDING TONIGHT! Dream says when he spoke with Sting before going on the air, and they have been TURNED DOWN BY NOT 1, BUT 2 “FRIENDS!”
Match 1

Generation neXt stars Christian Cage, with his Highlight Express cohort Lenny Lane in tow, and Billy Kidman opened up the broadcast with a high octane encounter. Cage and Kidman had one another well scouted, reversing signature moves, but the Lane advantage was more than Kidman could overcome and double C picked up a big victory after his innovative Unprettier modified reverse face buster.

WCW backstage correspondent Kimberly is standing by with the Stinger and the Total Package who say that the clock is a tickin’ and they, unlike most folks with some common sense, are looking forward to Wargames. Locked in a cage with Hennig, Norton, and Bagwell is exactly what Sting’s soul needs. 18 months of frustration for him and Lex can be resolved in one night. And no it doesn’t matter who Curt’s 4th man is because Sting and Luger will take on all 4 by themselves if they have to. But fear not, there is at least one man that has their back, and he certainly is a helluva partner. Kimberly certainly thinks so.

SELF HIGH FIVE
That’s right; it’s the World Television Champion, Diamond Dallas Page. DDP told us all that he wasn’t nearly finished with that Mister Swackhammer (yes from Space Jam) look-a-like Scott Norton, and on top of that, Sting has had DDP’s back in the lockerroom when the other boys were avoiding him like the plague, so if the Match Beyond is what’s in store, you better believe that DDP is ready for war, and somebody, most definitely, will feel. The. BAAAANG!
Match 2
The Extraordinary Mercenaries, Luc Poirier and Jacko Victory returned to Nitro once again, this time taking on the Queen’s favorite tag team, Dave Taylor and his masked partner Union Jack. Jack is the smallest man in the match, and took a fierce beating early on, but was able to overcome that and get his bruising partner into the ring. Taylor and Victory had a particularly entertaining exchange, but in the end Poirier could not withstand the Regal Stretch STF.

The Stieners join Mauro Ranallo and discuss their hiatus from WCW. Say that it was good to get their batteries recharged. They did some work in Tennessee, and Canada, and put together quite a few wins. When Maggie called them up and told them about the Team WCW vs. Team ECW survival match at the PPV, the Steiners knew it was time to come home. Now that they’re back, the tag team division is on notice, Ricky and Scotty won’t rest until the Unified Tag Team Championship of the World are back……

KENDALL WINDHAM, CW ANDERSON, and some MASKED MAN HAVE JUMPED THE STEINERS! They are dressed in dusters and beating both Steiners with a bullrope that has a Hangman’s noose tied into it! The masked man snatches the mic from Ranallo, gets down in the battered Scotty Steiner’s face, and asks him how it feels to be run over? Everyone had better get off the tracks because WE ARE HELL ON WHEELS and we are going to run you over….

Tony, Dusty, and Larry welcome us back from break, and go over what we just witnessed as heinous 3-on-2 attack on the Steiners was just perpetrated. And from what the guys understand, Rick and Scott Steiner have gone bat-shit crazy in the back, demanding a match with 1, 2, or all 3 men that just attacked them!
Match 3
One half of the Unified Tag Team Champions of the World, Big Bubba Rogers w/Col. Rob Parker in his corner, made short work of the Desperado, putting him away with his patent Bubba Sidewalk Slam.
After the contest Col. Robert E. Lee Parker grabbed the house mic and says that the Nasty Boys signed their death warrant asking for a match against the best tag team in wrestling today, and the end begins tonight as Eaton and Anthony get the Nasties in singles matches tonight, Sags and Knobbs might not make it to Fall Brawl!

Mauro is standing by with the United States Heavyweight Champion Ricky Steamboat who is fired up about the actions of Rick Martel last week on Nitro. Ricky knows that Martel took a good whoopin at the ECW/WCW Supershow, but Ricky Steamboat wasn’t exactly feeling like rainbows and sunshine either. And Martel, a former World Tag Team Champion, a former AWA World Champion, should know better…
This brings out Ricky Martel who says that he found out one thing after the beating he took from Benoit, it’s that Ricky better watch Ricky’s back cause no one else will. That’s why he wasn’t going to wrestle injured, not because Ricky Steamboat was hurting, wah wah!
Steamboat and Martel are standing nose to nose as…
Booker T., Stevie Ray, and Sister Sherri make their way out. Book says he don’t care how mad Steamboat is at Martel, he don’t care how big a punk Martel was, the fact of the matter is he pinned the United States Champion!
Before things can escalate, WCW Vice President Magnum T.A. says he thinks he has a solution that will appease everyone. At Fall Brawl, Ricky Steamboat will defend the United States title against Booker T…. Rick Martel…. And Stevie Ray…. It can work as a tag match, it can work as a 4 man free for all, Maggie says that is up to the competitors, but the first pinfall or submission gained will decide who leaves with the US Title!

Match 4
Nasty Boy Jerry Sags and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton along with Col. Parker engaged in a singles encounter that saw Sags look good early on, but the vet from Huntsville, Al seemed like a man on a mission tonight. He wasn’t focused on winning, but with injuring Sags. His aggression likely cost him as he missed the Alabama Jam enabling Sags to hit his top rope elbow drop and steal one from the Stud Stable here tonight!
WCW President JJ Dillon says that he has talked with the World Heavyweight Champion, and they have their fourth partner, and he might even be in the building tonight, Curt wouldn’t be too clear. What is clear is that Sting, Lex, and Page are having trouble finding a partner. That is why I have taken it upon myself to name their 4th man. That 4th man is on his way to the building as we speak, and JJ hopes he will be here in time for tonight’s main event match between Sting and Scott Norton…
Match 5
Tony Anthony w/Col. Parker was able to even the odds after picking up a victory over Brian Knobbs, but not without a little help from the most infamous loafer in all of professional wrestling.

Rey Mysterio and Lance Storm are with Mauro Ranallo, and Lance says that he won’t make any excuses, last week the better man won, and he fully expects Rey to bring the Generation neXt Championship back home to World Championship Wrestling at Fall Brawl. But once Lance Storm defeats Kid Dynamite Koji Kanemoto, he fully expects the first crack at Rey. Mysterio says not to count our chickens before they hatch, because Dean Malenko is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but you can count on Rey Mysterio to give it his all, and if he is lucky enough to win the gold, then Lance Storm is indeed in line for a title shot, if he can beat Kanemoto…
Dave Penzer: Ladies and Gentlemen the following contest is your main event of the evening, and is scheduled for one fall with TV time remaining. When the bell rings, your referee in charge of the action is WCW Senior Official, Mr. Nick Patrick. Introducing first; accompanied to the ring by the “First Lady of Professional Wrestling” Miss Elizabeth, he weighed in at 300 lbs. and hails from Robbinsdale, MN; he is SCOTT ‘FLASH’ NORTON! And his opponent; 252 lbs. from Venice Beach, California, ladies and gentlemen, THIS. IS. STIIIING!!!

Sting and Norton lock up and go after it from the opening bell. Dusty has a field day on commentary with these two guys hooking it up. It isn’t long before each man has partners work their way down to the ring. First the World Heavyweight Champion, then Luger, then Bagwell, and finally DDP. This one resembles a Lumberjack match as the Stinger beats his chest, lets out a big OWWWWWWW! And hits the Stinger Splash on Norton! Bagwell grabs him by the foot and has his attention, only to be nailed by Page! Luger and Hennig join the fight at ringside…
