Broadcast on Sunday, May 26, 1985 on:
Taped on Wednesday, May 8 at the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, DC
Announcers: Gordon Solie and Bobby Heenan
Backstage interviews: Ken Resnick
Ring Announcer: Larry Nelson
Referees: Tommy Young, Jack Lotz and “Dangerous” Danny Davis
Opening clip: 14-man Battle Royal, Last Week:
We’re down to Brad Armstrong and Garfield Portz. Portz drives a knee into the gut of Armstrong, then grabs him and tosses him over the top rope . . . but Armstrong hangs on, and is able to roll back in under the bottom rope! Portz thinks he’s won, and he’s jawing with the fans in the front row. Armstrong connects with a dropkick to the back that sends Portz stumbling forwards . . . and right over the top rope!
Brad Armstrong has won the Battle Royal and the American title!
The referee raises Armstrong’s hand, and then goes over to the timekeeper’s table to get the American title belt.
Portz has slid back into the ring, though, and he clips Armstrong’s knee, then puts the boots to him.
Portz snatches the American title belt from the referee, and repeatedly hits Armstrong in the face with it, opening up a nasty cut on Brad’s forehead!
The show comes to an end with the new American champ lying flat on his back on the mat, his face a bloody mess!
END VTR
GORDON SOLIE and BOBBY “THE BRAIN” HEENAN are seated at a table, with the UCW logo behind them.
Solie and Heenan open the show and welcome us to Washington, DC for another episode of “Capitol Wrestling”!
They discuss the clip we saw to open the show, with Solie congratulating Armstrong on the win, and then says that Portz’s actions were disgraceful.
Heenan says that Portz was the winner and the rightful champion, he threw Armstrong over the top, Portz was just venting his frustration at being screwed out of the American title!
Solie reminds him that Armstrong’s feet didn’t touch the floor, therefore he wasn’t eliminated. Heenan won’t hear it, and instead insists that Portz is the rightful champion.
Solie says that next week, right here on television, Armstrong has challenged Portz to a match . . . and the American title will be on the line!
HARLEY RACE beat BOB MARCUS. Race gets the win by submission with the Indian Deathlock.
“MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF beats NICK DECARLO. Orndorff gets the win after dropping DeCarlo on his head with a vicious Piledriver.
After the match, Orndorff joins Heenan and Solie at the broadcast desk.
Solie says that Wahoo McDaniel directed some comments at Orndorff on last week’s show.
VTR: Last Week
After the match, Wahoo stops by the announce desk on his way from the ring.
Solie says that we saw the clip at the top of the show, we saw Orndorff use his feet on the ropes for leverage to beat Wahoo last week.
Wahoo says that he’s been beaten plenty of times in his career, and if someone beat him clean, he came out and said that they were the better man on that particular night, no excuses. But Paul Orndorff couldn’t beat him clean, he had to cheat, and in the process Orndorff showed the entire country what a snake he really is!
Wahoo wraps things up by challenging Orndorff to wrestle him again, if he has the guts, and says that Orndorff cheated him once, but it won’t happen again!
END VTR
Orndorff, as arrogant as ever, runs down Wahoo, referring to him as “Tonto”. He says that Wahoo can’t handle the fact that Orndorff beat him, fair and square, so he comes out here and spread lies.
Gordon asks Orndorff about his response to Wahoo’s challenge. Orndorff says he’s already beaten, and humiliated, Wahoo, why would he wrestle him again?
“SOULMAN” ROCKY JOHNSON beat GEORGE SOUTH. The hometown hero makes short work of South, stunning him with a flurry of rights and lefts, before putting him on the mat with a big knock-out punch. Rocky covers South and picks up the 1, 2, 3!
Solie and Heenan send us to UCW Commissioner Johnny Powers.
Johnny Powers is seated at his desk, in front of him is two pairs of title belts. He says that last week they crowned the American champion, and on July 4 in Philadelphia, we’ll crown a Universal champion. Today he wants to talk about tag team wrestling. He says that UCW will recognize two different tag team titles . . . the Universal tag team titles and the Television tag team titles! He says that the Universal tag champs will be decided in a one-night, single elimination tournament that will take place on June 25 at the Civic Center in Baltimore, MD!
As far as the Television tag team titles go, he says that, as the name suggests, they will be defended mainly on TV. In order to crown those champions, a 6-team round robin tournament will take place over several weeks on “Capitol Wrestling”. When it’s all over, the two teams with the most points will face off in the finals, and the winning team will be declared the very first Television tag team champions!
Powers says that we’ll have more information about both of these tournaments, such as the teams that will participate, in the coming weeks here on “Capitol Wrestling”.
BARRY WINDHAM beat DUTCH MANTELL. Windham continues his winning ways, as he downs the Dutchman after a diving clothesline from the top rope.
Solie then intro’s a highlight video of Barry Windham.
ICEMAN PARSONS beat MAD DOG VACHON. Vachon attacks Parsons before the bell, and dominates the early going, throwing the Iceman around like a ragdoll! However, as the match goes on, Parsons eventually battles back, and in the end, he connects with the Butt-Butt for the pinfall victory.
Solie and Heenan wrap things up. Solie says that next week, we’ll see Brad Armstrong defend the American title against the man that left him a bloody mess last week, Garfield Portz! Plus, we’ll find out who the third semi-finalist is in our Universal title tournament!
