Gene Okerlund: Welcome to another edition of Superstars of the Ring! We have a huge show for you this evening. Tonight, you will the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff in action, Big Van Vader makes his debut in the ring, the Sheepherders take on the Bulldogs, and in our huge main event, UWE Television Champion Tito Santana defends his belt against Adrian Adonis, the man he beat to in the title.
On Friday, March 29, ESPN and UWE have partnered to bring to you a huge, live wrestling card that you can see right here on this channel. The card will be known as Prime Time Classic, emanating live from Portland, Oregon. We can release more matches for that big show, as we have received word that four tag teams will compete in an eight man elimination match, with the wining team to get a world title shot live on this program on April 5. The teams competing for the title shot are the Wild Samoans, the Sheepherders, the Bulldogs and Tommy Rich and Tracy Smothers. In addition, Jimmy Snuka will take on the outlaw Ron Bass, and the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff will face hands of stone Ronnie Garvin. We’ll have more matches to announce next week.
Of course, in our main event, Roddy Piper and Magnum TA will team to take on Big John Studd and Jake Roberts. This should prove to be quite an interesting match, as there have been some issues as of late between TA and Piper. Last week, as they attempted to aid the Rock and Roll Express, Magnum TA accidentally struck Piper, leading to exchange between the two men. Joining us now to talk more about this situation is Magnum TA.
Magnum TA: Look here Piper, I don’t know what’s been doing on with you lately. I didn’t ask to be named most popular, the wrestling fans did that on your own. What happened last week was nothing more than an accident. I apologized then and I’ll do it again right now. That was just the heat of battle, man. The reality is that we’re facing two of the most dangerous men in all of wrestling next Friday night. If we aren’t on the same page, if don’t work like a team, the outcome could get ugly. I’m asking you, let’s team up next week, take on whoever the UWE puts in front of us, show the wrestling world we are on the same page and can work together. I’ll see you in this ring next week.
Gene Okerlund: Magnum knows that he and Piper have to be ready for a war on the 29th and has asked the world champ to join him in a tag-match next week. We’ll hear from the world champion later in the program. Let’s head to the ring for our first match of the night as the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff is in action. Rod Trongard and Dutch Savage are on the call.
Match #1: Nikita Koloff destroyed Buddy Lane via pinfall then proceeded to drape the USSR flag over him as he hurled insults at the American television audience.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: Last week we introduced you to Gary Hart and his monster Big Van Vader. Apparently Hart was not content to have one beast by his side. He has brought in two more. Joining us now is Gary Hart, Big Van Vader, Nord the Barbarian and One Man Gang.
Gary Hart: When I last saw you all here on ESPN, I showed you the most destructive man in all of wrestling. A man feared all around the world. I heard your gasps, I heard your sighs, I heard you huddling in emergency meetings wondering how you’ll possible beat this man. I have very bad news for you all. You don’t have to beat one monster…you have to beat three of them. I have brought in two giants, two warriors, two of the toughest men in the sport, to join my rapidly growing army. One Man Gang, Nord the Barbarian, take a very close look at these men, because they are the conquerors of the Universal Wrestling Federation.
Gene Okerlund: Gary Hart has not just brought in a soldier, he’s brought in an army. Let’s head to the ring as one of his men, Big Van Vader, is in action.
Match #2: Big Van Vader defeats Enrique Vera via pinfall. After the match, Hart, OMG and Nord come to ringside and taunt the crowd, kicking Vera a few times for good measure.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: We are getting more and more tag-teams coming to the UWE every week, all of them wanting to take the titles owned by our next two guests. We are honored to be joined by the UWE Tag-Team Champions, the Rock and Roll Express.
Ricky Morton: Rock and Roll is here to stay, Mean Gene. All these teams, all these competitors, from all over the world. Arriving here in the UWE every week with one goal in mind: taking this gold belts from us. I got news for you jack, you ain’t seen nothing like the Rock and Roll Express. Some of these teams may have won titles in other parts of the world, they may come here thinking they are going to add the UWE tag titles to their collection. They couldn’t be more wrong, jack. Rock and Roll owns this territory, this is our home, and it don’t matter what you’ve done in the past when we get in the ring, all I know is we’re the ones who will keep walking out with the world titles.
Robert Gibson: A whole bunch of good teams are competing at Prime Time Classic for the chance to take these titles from us. We have some friends in their like the Bulldogs and Rich and Smothers, and we have some of our enemies, like the Wild Samoans and the Sheepherders. Thing is, we don’t care who wins. We want to defend these belts against the best teams in the world. Whoever wins that title shot on March 29, you better be ready jack. Because you’re winning the right to take on the world champ, and there is no way we’re going down without one heck of a fight.
Gene Okerlund: The Rock and Roll Express will be anxiously watching Prime Time Classic as four of the best teams in pro wrestling compete for their right to challenge for their belts. Let’s head to the ring as two of those teams are in action.
Match #3: The Bulldogs and the Sheepherders w/ Jonathan Boyd fought to a double countout.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: As we discussed earlier in the broadcast, Magnum TA wants to put these recent events with Roddy Piper behind him. He’s asked Magnum to team with him next week to get better prepared for their match with Big John Studd and Jake Roberts at Prime Time Classic on March 29th. We are joined by the world heavyweight champion, Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper: I’m no newcomer to this business, jack. I know there aren’t such things coincidences. Magnum can come out here and talk about accidents all he wants. I know the truth. It don’t matter if you’re a rulebreaker, if you’re someone who the fans cheer, you all have the same goal in your heart: winning the most prestigious belt in all of wrestling. I know what I’m getting into and I know the only friend you have in wrestling is the person you see in the mirror. I signed on the dotted line, I’m teaming with Magnum to take on Roberts and Studd at Prime Time Classic. If Magnum wants a tune up match, wants to work on strategy before we face the dangerous Studd and Roberts, then we’ll have a match. You better watch yourself though. This is the only warning you’re going to get.
Gene Okerlund: Piper does not seem ready to make amends with Magnum. The two have a week to patch things up as we’ve just learned they will face Buddy Rose and Doug Sommers in our main event next week. It’s time for our main event as UWE Television Champion Tito Santana tries to hold off a challenge from former champ Adrian Adonis.
Match #4: UWE Television Champion Tito Santana defeated Adrian Adonis via pinfall when Classy Freddy Blassie tries to interfere but inadvertently assisted Santana in keeping the title. Adonis had words with Blassie after the contest.
Gene Okerlund: Adrian Adonis falls short of his quest to regain the television title, and appears to put the blame on Freddie Blassie. We’ll have more on this situation next week, as well as a huge main event featuring Roddy Piper and Jake Roberts taking on Doug Sommers and Buddy Rose. Till next week wrestling fans.
