CIVIC ARENA in PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA
JERRY STUBBS defeats AL SNOW. Stubbs gets the win in a hard-fought match with a Sleeperhold.
BRAD ARMSTRONG beats ERNIE LADD. Ladd spent several years as a top guy in the Buffalo-Cleveland-Pittsburgh area back in the day, and he makes his return to the area here. However, it’s not a successful return for Ladd, as he falls in defeat to the young upstart. Armstrong wears Ladd down, and connects with the Russian legsweep for the win.
THE FANTASTICS: TOMMY ROGERS & BOBBY FULTON defeat HARLEY RACE & “DIRTY” DUTCH MANTELL. Harley and Dutch use plenty of underhanded tactics in order to control the early going, every time the Fantastics try to get something going, Race and Mantell cheat to keep the upper hand. Race and Dutch look to be on their way to victory, until Race goes for the diving headbutt on Tommy Rogers, but Rogers rolls out of the way at the last second and Race crashes, face-first, into the mat! Rogers makes the tag to Fulton, then they hit a double dropkick on Race for the 1, 2, 3!
NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS: MICHAEL HAYES & TERRY GORDY (champs) beat ICEMAN KING PARSONS & KOKO WARE. Parsons makes his NAWF debut here, teaming area favourite Koko Ware to challenge the Freebirds for the NA tag team titles. Koko and the Iceman put up a good fight, but in the end, Hayes and Gordy get their hands raised when Gordy drives Koko into the mat with a vicious Powerbomb, and covers him for the 1, 2, 3.
LOSING TEAM MUST SPLIT UP:
MARK & JAY YOUNGBLOOD defeat THE BRITISH BRUISERS: DYNAMITE KID & MARK “ROLLERBALL” ROCCO. The rivalry between these two teams has continued to intensify. Recently, Rollerball tore up Jay Youngblood’s ceremonial headdress, and then to add insult to injury, he would wear the remains of it when he came to the ring for matches agianst the Youngbloods! Mark and Jay asked for this match, as a way to end this feud once and for all.
The match is fast and furious, the Youngbloods show that they can go move for move with the lightning-quick Brits. Jay lets his emotions get the better of him early on, and the Brits take advantage, luring Jay into their corner, where they double-team him, and keep him isolated from his brother. Dynamite and Rocco keep Jay in their corner, using quick tags to keep the fresh man in, not letting Jay get any offence going.
At one point, DK throws Jay out of the ring, then taunts Mark, which distracts the referee. While that’s going on, Rocco attacks Jay on the floor, lifting him up and dropping him throat-first across the steel guardrail! With Jay rolling around, clutching his throat, Rocco picks him up and rolls him back into the ring.
The next few minutes see the Brits continue to work over Jay, but despite the attack on the outside, and the beating that he’s getting from the Bruisers, Jay won’t stay down for a 3-count. DK and Rocco, frustrated that they can’t put Jay away, start double-teaming him again. They whip Youngblood into the ropes and go for a double clothesline, but Jay ducks it, then rebounds off the ropes, dropping both Bruisers with a double clothesline of his own. Jay then tags Mark in, and he clears both Brits from the ring.
A minute later, we’ve got all four men in the ring together. During the brawl, Mark comes off the top rope with a flying bodypress onto Rollerball Rocco for the 1, 2, 3!
The Youngbloods have won! The British Bruisers have to split up!
As Mark and Jay are getting their hands raised, DK and Rocco attack them from behind! They knock Jay out of the ring, then gang up on Mark. After laying Mark out, DK and Rocco jump out of the ring, and attack Jay on the floor. DK grabs a chair, and repeatedly drives it into the throat of Jay Youngblood!
DK and Rocco storm off, as medical personnel and Mark Youngblood check on Jay.
MIL MASCARAS battles THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) to a time-limit DRAW. The two masked men battle tooth and nail for the full 30 minutes, and the match is declared a draw.
NO DQ MATCH:
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON & “THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL battle ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER & “MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) to a Double Count-Out. Things get out of hand before the opening bell even sounds, as Abby and Orndorff attack Idol and Rocky on their way to the ring! The two teams brawl around ringside and in the aisle! Rocky and Abby brawl, while Orndorff batters Idol with a chair, and the Universal Hearthrob is bleeding from the forehead before the match even officially starts!
The first few minutes are chaos, as all four men brawl in, and outside of, the ring. Idol gets the upper hand on Orndorff, and goes to work on Orndorff’s knee, looking to soften him up for the Las Vegas Leglock, but when Idol goes to apply the hold, looking to get the win early, Abby breaks it up. Abby and Orndorff then double-team Rocky Johnson, and toss him out of the ring, before turning their attention back to Idol. Abby and Orndorff double-team Idol, but Rocky makes his way back into the ring, with a chair, and clears both heels from the ring. Rocky and Idol then leave the ring and the battle continues on the arena floor!
The Masked Superstar gets involved, which brings out Mil Mascaras as well, and now we’ve got six men brawling around ringside! They pay no attention to referee Tommy Young as he begins his count. Young reaches the count of 10, both teams have been counted out!
BRUNO SAMMARTINO beats BRUNO SAMMARTINO JR. Bruno Sr wants to keep this a clean, scientific match, but Junior has other ideas, as he repeatedly punches and slaps his father! Finally, Senior loses his temper, and beats Junior from pillar to post! In the end, Bruno Sr gets the win, locking Junior in the Bearhug for the submission!
