Reynolds and Montez welcome us to the Toledo Sports Arena, and announce that with the show airing in southwest, the NAWF has changed the name of the show to “Outlaw Championship Wrestling”!
Reynolds says that last night, the NAWF held their first show in that part of the country, in Phoenix, and what an historic night it was! The IWA World heavyweight championship changed hands for the first time in over a decade! Mil Mascaras defended the title against Greg “the Hammer” Valentine, despite suffering a knee injury at the hands of the Masked Superstar earlier in the evening. Valentine took full advantage of the injury, and used the Figure-4 leglock to win the match and the IWA title!
We’ll have footage of the match next week on Outlaw Championship Wrestling, and hopefully get some comments from the new champion, Greg Valentine, as well. Reynolds says that with the win, Valentine takes over Mil’s commitments, and will now have title defences coming up all around the world.
On this week’s show, we’ll have the two other quarter-final matches of the “Road to the Gold” tournament, as Jay Youngblood takes on Bruno Sammartino Jr, and Paul Orndorff squares off with Tony Parisi!
And speaking of Bruno Sammartino Jr and Tony Parisi, they met in a Phoenix Streetfight last night, let’s take a look at what went down in that match.
VTR: Parisi vs Sammartino, Phoenix Streetfight, 2-1-85, JIP:
Junior becomes more and more arrogant as he continues to pummel Parisi. At one point, with Tony on the mat, Junior just stands over him, and every time Parisi tries to get up, Bruno puts a boot against Tony’s head, and shoves him back down to the mat. The blatant disrespect from Junior angers Parisi even more, and he grabs Sammartino’s leg, dragging him to the mat, then he starts wailing away on Junior with a flurry of rights and lefts!
Sammartino manages to get away from Parisi, and rolls to the outside, but Parisi follows him out. Tony grabs Junior by the hair, but Bruno picks up a chair and drives it into Parisi’s stomach! Sammartino then tosses Parisi back into the ring, and follows him in, with the chair still in hand!
Sammartino batters Parisi with the chair, but when he covers Parisi, Tony is able to drape a leg over the bottom rope to stop the count. Frustrated, Sammartino pulls Parisi up, and whips him into the corner. Parisi is slumped against the turnbuckles, battered and bloodied, but when Sammartino goes to smash him again with the chair, Parisi ducks out of the way, and the chair rebounds off the top turnbuckle . . . right into Sammartino’s face! The impact from the chair knocks Sammartino senseless, and he falls to the mat.
Parisi, still dazed, falls on top of Sammartino, and referee Tommy Young makes the three-count! Tony Parisi has defeated Bruno Sammartino Jr in this Phoenix Streetfight!
END VTR
After the clip airs, Reynolds and Montez are joined by Bruno Sammartino Jr. Sammartino complains about the way the match ended, to which Reynolds reminds him that HE brought the chair in the ring, and it was him trying to use the chair on Parisi that led to his losing. Sammartino claims that Parisi had been cheating, again, and that’s why he brought the chair into the ring, to fight fire with fire.
Suddenly, there’s some commotion . . . and out walks BRUNO SAMMARTINO SR!!!!!!
Junior is shocked to see his father, but then says that Senior must have saw the footage, he knows that what Junior is saying is true! He says that his father must realize by now that Parisi is a no-good cheat!
Bruno Sammartino Sr tells his son that he didn’t raise him to act like this, he doesn’t even recognize the man standing in front of him.
Junior is taken aback, then composes himself . . . and says that his father is just jealous, because his son is on his way to being more successful than he could have ever been! Junior says his father was a chump, because he let people like Tony Parisi and Dominic DeNucci hold him down. If he had kicked them to the curb, who knows what heights Bruno Sr could have reached!
Senior says that those men he mentioned are like family to him, to both of them, they’ve always treated Junior with respect, there’s no reason for him to be acting the way he is.
Junior says he's through letting his father tell him what to do . . . and SLAPS BRUNO SR. ACROSS THE FACE!!!!!
Bruno Jr then storms off, leaving Senior just shaking his head.
Senior tells Reynolds and Montez that he doesn’t know what’s got into his son, then walks off the set.
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) beats BRAD ARMSTRONG. The youngster Armstrong give another good showing here, but it’s not enough to take down the sadistic Superstar. The masked man methodically wears Armstrong down, and delivers a Corkscrew Neckbreaker for the 1, 2, 3.
Tito Montez is standing in front of a backdrop of the NAWF logo. He’s joined by Mark and Jay Youngblood.
Montez talks about the rivalry between the Youngbloods and the British Bruisers. He says that the two teams met last night in Phoenix, and they have some footage from the match.
VTR: Youngbloods vs Bruisers, 2-1-85, JIP:
Eventually, Rocco tags Dynamite in, and he uses a series of vicious European uppercuts to put Jay Youngblood on the mat. From there, DK works Jay over, keeping him in the Bruisers’ corner. This goes on for several minutes, until Jay is able to make the hot tag, and Mark comes in and cleans house! Mark hits dropkicks on both DK and Rocco, sending them both through the ropes and to the floor.
As the match progresses, the Youngbloods have things well in hand and look to be on their way to victory. But, with Jay in the ring with DK, Rocco goes and picks up what’s left of Jay’s headdress, and starts pulling the remaining feathers out, then throws it on the floor and stomps on it!
Jay just watches in horror inside the ring, but before he can leave the ring to stop Rocco, Dynamite Kid rolls Jay up from behind. Jay is caught completely off-guard and can’t kick out! DK gets the 1, 2, 3, and the British Bruisers have picked up a victory here over the Youngbloods.
END VTR
Jay keeps it short and sweet, he says that this is twice now that DK and Rocco have disrespected him and all the Navajo people around this great county. He says that there won’t be a third time!
Mark says that they’ve asked Johnny Powers for another match with the Bruisers, and the NAWF promoters are working to put it together. He says that it’s only a matter of time before he and Jay get their hands on DK and Rocco, and when they do, the Bruisers are going to have to answer for everything they’ve done!
“THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL beats THE MASKED SUPER ASSASSIN. Idol gets the win by submission with the Las Vegas Leglock.
Tito Montez is standing in front of a backdrop of the NAWF logo. He’s joined by The British Bruisers: Dynamite Kid & Mark “Rollerball” Rocco. Rocco is wearing what’s left of Jay Youngblood’s ceremonial headdress!
Montez talks about the match that took place last night in Phoenix, we saw the footage earlier, and he would like to get their thoughts on the match, and on their despicable actions. Dynamite says that there was nothing despicable about what they did, they saw an opportunity to gain the upper hand, and they took it!
Rocco says that they’ve proven, time and time again, that they’re tougher the Youngbloods, and if Mark and Jay want another beating, that’s just fine with them! He says that he’ll take what’s left of this headdress . . . and shove it right down Jay Youngblood’s throat!
ROAD TO THE GOLD TOURNAMENT
QUARTER-FINAL MATCH:
“MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) beats TONY “CANNONBALL” PARISI. Parisi was in a grueling battle the night before in Phoenix, but he still gives Orndorff all he can handle here. In the end, it’s Orndorff getting his hand raised, though, after he drops Parisi on his head with a Piledriver.
ROAD TO THE GOLD TOURNAMENT
QUARTER-FINAL MATCH:
JAY YOUNGBLOOD beats BRUNO SAMMARTINO JR. Youngblood wins a hard-fought match after a picture-perfect butterfly suplex, followed by a diving Tomahawk Chop from the top rope.
Reynolds and Montez wrap things up. They hype next week’s show, which will feature clips from Greg Valentine’s World title win over Mil Mascaras, and the first Road to the Gold semi-final match, as Rocky Johnson faces his archrival Abdullah the Butcher, with a trip to the finals hanging in the balance!
