NORTH AMERICAN WRESTLING FEDERATION
FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1985
CIVIC ARENA in PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA
AL SNOW battles DEAN MALENKO to a time-limit DRAW at 15:00. The two youngsters put on an exciting match, but neither was able to get the win before the time limit expired.
THE BRITISH BRUISERS: DYNAMITE KID & MARC “ROLLERBALL” ROCCO defeat TOM ZENK & NICK DECARLO. Dynamite Kid comes to the ring wearing what’s left of Jay Strongbow’s ceremonial headdress, with most of the feathers torn out of it, and the fans let him know what they think, as boos rain down from every corner of the Civic Arena. The Bruisers pick up the win when Rocco hits DeCarlo with a reverse piledriver, then tags DK in, and Dynamite comes off the top rope with a diving headbutt on DeCarlo for the 1, 2, 3.
THE FANTASTICS: BOBBY FULTON & TOMMY ROGERS defeat BOBBY DUNCUM & THE SPOILER. The Fantastics are making their NAWF in-ring debut here. In the opening minutes, Fulton and Rogers use their speed to gain the advantage, Duncum and the Spoiler just can’t seem to get anything going. At one point, Duncum gets ahold of Rogers, and goes to slam him, but Rogers slips out of his grasp, and dropkicks Duncum in the back, sending him into the Fantastics’ corner, where Fulton nails him with a right hand! That sends Duncum spinning around and back into the middle of the ring, and Rogers hits him with another dropkick, this time it puts Duncum flat on the mat! Spoiler comes in, but he’s met with a dropkick as well. Fulton then comes in, and the Fantastics clear the ring.
As the match progresses, Duncum and the Spoiler are able to gain the advantage when, as Fulton moves close enough to their corner, Spoiler reaches in and slaps him in the back of the head. Fulton turns his attention momentarily to the masked man, but the distraction is all Duncum needs, and he drives a knee into the back of Fulton, sending him into the turnbuckle. Duncum and the Spoiler dominate the next few minutes, keeping Bobby Fulton in their corner, and giving him a beating. Fulton finally makes the hot tag to Rogers, who comes in and takes both Duncum and Spoiler to the mat with a pair of armdrags. The Fantastics continue on the offensive, and a few minutes later, they get the win when they hit Spoiler with a double dropkick and Rogers covers him for the 1, 2, 3.
HARLEY RACE beats KOKO WARE. Ware gives the former 7-time World champion all he can handle, but in the end, Harley gets his hand raised after forcing Koko to submit to an Indian Deathlock.
LUMBERJACK MATCH:
BRUNO SAMMARTINO JR beats TONY “CANNONBALL” PARISI. Twelve lumberjacks surround the ring, both heels and faces, as Parisi and Sammartino square off. After Sammartino intentionally got himself counted out when the two met on TV, Parisi asked for this match, as a way to keep Sammartino in the ring. Early on, Sammartino gets frustrated when Parisi seems to have an answer for everything he tries. At one point, Sammartino tries to leave the ring and walk away, just like he did on TV, but the lumberjacks block his path and force him back into the ring!
As Sammartino climbs back into the ring, Parisi goes to lock up with him, but Junior drives a knee into Parisi’s stomach, then tosses him through the ropes and to the floor. The lumberjacks grab him, with some of the heels getting in a few cheapshots, and toss him back into the ring.
Each time Parisi is thrown out of the ring, the heels take some cheapshots at him, and this leads to some pushing and shoving between the lumberjacks, and finally it turns into an all-out brawl between all the lumberjacks! This distracts the referee, and Sammartino takes advantage, pulling a taped object out of his boot, holding it in his fist, and punching Parisi in the face! Parisi is out, he falls to the mat, and as the referee turns around, he sees Sammartino pinning Parisi, by placing a foot on his chest, and the ref counts the 1, 2, 3!
Sammartino jumps up and down, celebrating like he just won the World title!
NORTH AMERICAN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP:
THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS: MICHAEL HAYES & TERRY GORDY (champions) defeat JAY & MARK YOUNGBLOOD. The NAWF championship committee felt that the Youngbloods deserved a match with the ‘Birds, since the British Bruisers got involved in their semi-final match in the title tournament. Mark and Jay try to make the most of the opportunity, as they tear into Hayes and Gordy as soon as the match starts. The Youngbloods enjoy the early advantage, as they work over Michael Hayes. But when Terry Gordy tags in, the tables turn, as he pummels both Youngblood brothers, nearly turning Mark inside out with a vicious clothesline.
As the match progresses, the Youngbloods take control again, as they keep Gordy cut off from Hayes, and use quick tags to keep the fresh man in. Gordy eventually tags out to Hayes, but he gets the same treatment as Gordy. This brings Gordy back in, and we’ve got all four men brawling in the ring! During that brawl, Hayes and Gordy throw Jay out of the ring, and focus on Mark. They double-team him, with Gordy then delivering a vicious Powerbomb for the pinfall victory.
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON & “THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL & MIL MASCARAS battle THE HEENAN FAMILY: ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER & MASKED SUPERSTAR & “MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) to a NO-CONTEST. Originally, it was supposed to be Dino Bravo teaming with Idol and Rocky, but due to his injury a few weeks back at the hands of the Heenan Family, IWA World champion Mil Mascaras took his place.
This one was out of control right from the opening bell. The first few minutes sees all six men brawl in the ring, with referee Tommy Young trying, in vain, to get order restored. The battle moves to the arena floor, with Bobby Heenan even getting involved, as he takes a swing at Idol, but he takes a big right hand from the Hearthrob for his trouble!
Finally, the referee gets some order restored, and Idol and Orndorff square off. The momentum goes back and forth, every time Idol seems to get something going, Orndorff responds with a rake of the eyes, or a low blow, to stop Idol in his tracks. Idol is able to make the tag to the IWA champion, and Mil soon gains the upper hand. Mascaras catches Orndorff with a flying bodypress and it looks like Mascaras might get the pinfall, but the Masked Superstar comes in and breaks up the pin with a boot to the head of Mil. The World champion doesn’t take kindly to that, and starts brawling with the bigger Superstar.
This brings Abby, Idol, and Johnson into the ring as well, and once again we’ve got all six men in the ring at the same time! Tommy Young lets this go for a few minutes, but when it becomes obvious that he’s not going to be able to get this one back under control, he calls for the bell, throwing the match out and declaring it a No Contest!
The two sides continue to brawl for several minutes, eventually making their way down the aisle and out of sight.
