Reynolds, Montez and the Bruiser welcome us to this week’s edition of NAWF “All-Star Championship Wrestling”!
Reynolds says that they’re starting the show off with some bad news. Dino Bravo suffered a serious neck injury last week, a result of a spike piledriver on the arena floor from Paul Orndorff and Abdullah the Butcher. At this point, we’re still not sure when, or even IF, Dino Bravo will return to action.
At this point, they’re joined by Rocky Johnson. Rocky says that Heenan’s goons have taken away Dino Bravo’s ability to provide for his family, to put food on the table for his kids, and that’s something that he won’t stand for. He says that Dino is his friend, and he says he’ll do whatever he’s got to, he’ll risk his career, his health, whatever it takes, to make sure that Heenan and his goons never do that to anyone else!
Austin Idol comes out as well. Idol shakes Rocky’s hand, and says that he’s got Rocky’s back in the fight against the Heenan Family. He says that he’s got his own issues with Heenan and Orndorff, but this goes beyond that, he can’t stand to see someone go out there and intentionally try to hurt, try to CRIPPLE, another wrestler!
Reynolds says that it looks like the Heenan Family have a fight on their hands!
HARLEY RACE beats TOM ZENK. Zenk gives the veteran a tough time, but in the end, Harley gets the win by pinfall after a diving headbutt.
Reynolds says that back before Christmas, NAWF Commissioner Johnny Powers talked about the “Road to the Gold” tournament to crown the first North American champion. That tournament will start right here next week on All-Star Championship Wrestling, and they now know who the eight participants in the tournament will be . . .
A graphic pops up on the screen, with a picture of each wrestler as Reynolds announces them:
ROCKY JOHNSON
ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER
JAY YOUNGBLOOD
PAUL ORNDORFF
TONY PARISI
BRUNO SAMMARTINO JR
HARLEY RACE
KOKO WARE
MARK & JAY YOUNGBLOOD beat THE MASKED RUSSIAN ASSASSINS. The Youngbloods make short work of their masked opponents, as Jay pins one of the Russians after a Tomahawk Chop off the top rope.
As the Youngbloods are getting their hands raised, they’re jumped from behind by the British Bruisers! Rocco and DK hit dropkicks to the back of Mark and Jay, knocking Jay to the mat, and send Mark into the ropes. As Mark falls into the ropes, his arms become caught in the ropes, leaving him helpless as the Brits put the boots to Jay.
Referees rush out and try to free Mark from the ropes, but while that’s going on, Mark Rocco spots Jay’s ceremonial headdress that he wears to the ring.
A smile spreads across Rocco’s face. He grabs the headdress, brings it into the ring, where he and DK proceed to tear it apart!!!
Mark, still stuck in the ropes, is beside himself, as DK and Rollerball then take the feathers from the destroyed headdress, and start shoving them into Jay’s mouth!!!!
The referees are finally able to get Mark free, and he charges at the Brits, but they wisely bail out of the ring and gloat as they head to the back.
Mark checks on his brother, as Jay pulls feathers out of his mouth.
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez are joined at the broadcast podium by Tony Parisi. Reynolds says that Tony will face Bruno Sammartino Jr in tonight’s main event. Tony says that he never thought he’d be having this match. He says he’s known Bruno Jr since he was a kid, he says that he and Bruno Sr were like family, and he’s always thought of Junior as a member of his family as well, and that’s why it’s so hard for him to think about this match, because it’s like fighting a family member. Despite that, he says that Junior needs to be taught a lesson about respect, and says that he’s not going to go easy on him tonight, he’s going to straighten Junior out!
Montez says that we saw earlier in the show, that Parisi will be a participant in the Road to the Gold tournament, to crown the first NAWF North American champion. Parisi says it’s going to be tough, this other wrestlers involved are among the very best in the world, but he’s going to give 110% and hopefully he’ll walk away victorious as the new North American champion!
“SOULMAN” ROCKY JOHNSON & “THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL beat SWEDE HANSON & BOBBY DUNCUM. The rugged veterans Hanson and Duncum give Rocky and Idol all they can handle early on, but eventually the Soulman and the Universal Hearthrob take over, and get the win when Idol forces Hanson to submit to the Las Vegas Leglock. When Duncum tries to break up the leglock, Rocky comes in and drops him with a big knockout punch!
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez are joined at the broadcast podium by Bruno Sammartino Jr. Reynolds wants to know why Sammartino is acting the way he is, why he’s turned his back on his mentor and longtime family friend Tony Parisi.
Sammartino says that he explained last week, he’s tired of carrying Parisi. He says that Parisi came out here earlier and said that he always thought of him as family. Sammartino says his father might have considered Parisi family, but he never did, he saw him for what he is . . . a washed up old man, leeching off him and the Sammartino name, trying to stay relevant!
Sammartino says that when he first arrived in the NAWF, he decided he’d give Parisi a chance, to prove that he still had something left, that he could carry his weight in their team. He gave him every opportunity to do that, but he couldn’t. Every match they lost, it was Parisi who got beat, not him! He says that it’s Parisi’s fault that they’re not out here right now as the North American tag team champions. Then, two weeks ago, they get a rematch, a chance to make it right, but what does Parisi do? He gets pinned again! He says Parisi is a loser and he’s tired of wasting his time with him!
Junior says that after he beats Parisi here tonight, he’ll go on to win the Road to the Gold tournament and become the North American champion! Then no one will be able to deny that what he’s saying is the truth!
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR & ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER (w/ Bobby Heenan) beat NICK DECARLO & BOB MARCUS. Abby and the Superstar attack as soon as the bell rings, and about 30 seconds later, get their hands raised when Abby pins DeCarlo following the Butcher’s Axe elbowdrop, while the Superstar drops Marcus with a vicious neckbreaker.
TONY “CANNONBALL” PARISI beats BRUNO SAMMARTINO JR by Count-out. Things start out pretty even, both men get some offence in, but neither can really gain a clear advantage. As the match progresses, the veteran Parisi takes control, until Sammartino slides out of the ring . . . and just walks back to the locker room!! Sammartino is shaking his head in disgust, and yelling to the fans, something about Parisi cheating, and he disappears through the curtain, leaving Parisi standing in the ring, where he’s declared the winner by count-out.
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez wrap things up. Reynolds hypes next week’s show, which will feature the beginning of the Road to the Gold tournament for the North American title!
