“CONTINENTAL WRESTLING WILDFIRE"
Taped: January 9, 1985 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama @ 6 PM
Broadcast: January 12, 1985 at various times on TV stations in Alabama
Announcers: Charlie Platt, Rick Stewart
Referee: Mac McMurray
Charlie and Rick welcome the fans to the program. They cover the Championship Roll Call in Continental Wrestling Showcase:
Continental Heavyweight Champion: The Flame
Showcase TV Champ: Scott McGhee
Showcase Junior Heavyweight Champion: Ron Starr
Showcase Tag Team Champions: Bob and Steve Armstrong
Platt says that there will be fighting champions in CWS and tonight goes to show that. Scott McGhee will defend his TV Title and so will The Armstrongs, taking on Randy and Pat Rose. Stuart brings up that no one can question The Armstrongs courage after agreeing to a TV match the caliber of this one so soon after winning the belts. The Devil’s Playground will have a big six man match that count head any card in the South. Charlie encourages everybody to stay tuned.
BREAK
The Wrestling Pro, the CWS Commissioner, is shown on a video plugging the next big supercard for Continental Wrestling Showcase. It will be on February 10 on CMT and will be called “St. Valentine’s Showdown”. It will be broadcast from the legendary Houston County Farm Center in Dothan, Alabama.
*SIX-MAN MATCH
The Devil’s Playground (Doug Vines, Jeff Sword, Chris Colt, Dream Machine) w/Izzy Slapowitz
Vs.
Mike Davis/Tommy Lane/Checkmate/Porkchop Cash
This one is wild but the good guys prevail after Cash brainbusts Dream Machine for the win. Sword and Vines use Izzy’s “good book” to slam everybody post match. Dream Machine recovers and uses a pair of scissors to cut the hair of Cash. Lane and Davis get chairs to clear the ring.
BREAK
Video is shown of Tony Atlas hurting the back of Ron Fuller by slamming him on arena chairs during several December matches.
*Tony Atlas b. Ted Petty.
Atlas uses an inverted backbreaker to get the submission. Tony tells Rick that the “tall drink of water, Fuller, has a hurt back and these pythons are ready to squeeze the life out of it”. Looking squarely at the camera. Atlas asks Ron Fuller “how do you like me, now?”
BREAK
Video is shown of The Flame winning the Continental Heavyweight Title.
The Flame b. Carl Fergie
After the match. The Flame puts remnants of Scott Casey’s hat that he brought to ringside on Fergie. After slapping Carl around a bit, Casey storms out and chases Flame from the ring. Scott tells Platt that the hat was given to him by Gene Autry and it was very special to him. Flame has made this way too personal. He will live to regret that.
BREAK
*SHOWCASE TV TITLE
Scott McGhee © vs. Mr. Tennessee
Early on in this match, Tennessee looks like a country bumpkin, showing his best moves are clumsy and awkward. He falls out of the ring to the floor. McGee holds the ropes open for him to return. Tennessee asks if he is angry but backs off. Scott McGhee turns his back for just one second.
BAD MOVE
Mr. Tennessee knees McGhee in the back and follows it up with a bulldog. Now, the moves are clicking ultra smoothly. Both Platt and Stuart are surprised and wonder what is up. McGhee does rebound for a competitive match but is, eventually caught with a sudden hot shot and pinned. Mr. Tennessee has won the Showcase TV Title. The masked man grabs the title belt, as McGhee is helped to the back by McMurray.
Stopping by the desk, Tennessee says he is ready to answer all the questions NOW. He takes off the mask to reveal….. EDDIE GILBERT. Hot Stuff says that he would have been here sooner but the promoters put up all kinds of roadblocks to keep him out of the CWS. No matter, though. I’m here and I won’t be alone for long. Gilbert leaves, leaving Platt and Stuart dumbfounded.
BREAK
*SHOWCASE TAG TEAM TITLES
Bob/Steve Armstrong © vs. Randy Rose/Pat Rose w/Ron Fuller
The Roses and Fuller are out, looking strangely overconfident. The reason why is revealed when Steve comes out with a huge amount of tape on his forehead. Bob stops by the desk and says that Steve was ambushed as he got out of his car here at Boutwell earlier. The fans who got there early said it was The Roses and Fuller. The docs in the back say that Steve should sit this one out but he isn’t. These punks will learn what it means when you play dirty with Armstrongs.
The Wrestling Pro comes out and says he talked with those fans, too. And, for that attack, he is fining Fuller and his goons $1,000. Iff they don’t pay right now, this match isn’t happening. Fuller justs smiles and takes the loot out of his jacket wallet. Randy Rose doesn’t take things so easily. He warns Pro “to stay in the office and out of Stud Stable business”. The armstrongs start slugging away, and the bell rings.
Bob wrestles most of the match, leaving his injured son in the corner. But, the triple teaming proves to be too much. He is worn down. Steve makes a blind tag to try to help his dad. Pat Rose hits a nasty powerslam and things don’t look good. Rose clamps on a Boston Crab while Bob pulls himself up from the floor. The bell rings. The TV Time left has expired. The Armstrongs remain the champs.
Fuller is livid, saying the match should have continued even if the cameras stopped rolling. Platt says that is the way things go and Fuller should “take it up with management”. The credits start to roll.
