Ring Announcer: Larry Nelson
Referees: Tommy Young, Jack Lotz and “Dangerous” Danny Davis
JACK REYNOLDS, DICK THE BRUISER and TITO MONTEZ are standing at the announce podium, the NAWF logo behind them.
Reynolds, Montez and the Bruiser welcome us to this week’s edition of NAWF “All-Star Championship Wrestling”!
They once again welcome the new audience in the American southwest, and say that for the Spanish-speaking fans, they can watch Rapido Rodriguez host the Spanish version of the show tonight at 10pm.
Reynolds, Montez and the Bruiser talk about last week’s show, and the big main event, where Tony Parisi and the man he’d taken under his wing, Bruno Sammartino Jr, challenged the Fabulous Freebirds for the tag team titles.
VTR: Freebirds vs Parisi/Sammartino, 1-5-85, JIP:
Every time Parisi tried to make a comeback, he was double-teamed by the ‘Birds, and when Parisi was finally able to make the tag to Sammartino, Hayes distracted the referee so that he didn’t see the tag, and forced Sammartino back out!
As the ‘Birds continued to work over Parisi, we could see Sammartino getting more and more frustrated on the apron. Finally, Parisi made it out of the Freebirds corner, and went to make the tag . . . but Sammartino ignored him, hopping down off the apron and, shaking his head in disgust, walked down the aisle and back to the locker room!
In the ring, Parisi is in shock, watching Sammartino head down the aisle. When Parisi finally turns his attention back to the match, he eats a vicious Lariat from Gordy that nearly turns him inside out! Gordy then picks Parisi up and drives him into the mat with a Powerbomb for the 1, 2, 3!
END VTR
After the clip, Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez are joined at the podium by Bruno Sammartino Jr. Reynolds asks him what was going through his mind last week, when he left his tag team partner, his FRIEND, Tony Parisi high and dry?
Sammartino says that ever since they started teaming up, he’s been carrying the team! He tells Reynolds to go back and watch their matches, any time they’ve lost, it’s always been Parisi getting beat, not him! He says that he thought Parisi could teach him some things, and help him move up the ladder here in the NAWF, but now he realizes that Parisi’s just a has-been who’s been dragging him down this whole time!
This brings Tony Parisi out to the podium.
He says that he’s known Bruno Jr since he was a teenager, he helped Jr’s father, Bruno Sr, train him! He says that Jr is like family to him, and he’s never seen him act like this, he says Jr’s father raised him better than this!
Sammartino says that his father hung around with losers like Parisi, and let them hold him back, so as far as he’s concerned, his father’s a chump, just like Parisi!
Parisi is stunned, and Sammartino then says that he’ll prove to everyone that what he’s been saying is true, he’ll prove that he carried their team . . . if Parisi has the guts to face him in the ring!
Parisi says that he’ll face Sammartino, and he’ll teach him a lesson about respect!
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez are stunned. Reynolds says that he never thought we’d see Bruno Sammartino Jr act like this, and turn his back on long-time family friend Tony Parisi. But, it looks like that’s what happened, and now it seems these two will be facing each other in the ring sooner rather than later!
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez talk about a new tag team that’s on their way to the NAWF, Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers, known around the world as The Fantastics!
NON-TITLE MATCH:
MIL MASCARAS beats AL SNOW. Snow has improved with each match out, and he takes the fight to the masked World champion early in this bout. But Mil eventually takes over, and connects with a crossbody from the top rope for the pinfall victory.
Reynolds, Montez and the Bruiser talk about an incident that took place last week, between Austin Idol and Paul Orndorff.
VTR: Last week on All-Star Championship Wrestling:
After the match, Austin Idol stops by the announcers desk to talk with Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez. Reynolds congratulates Idol on his victory, and says that, starting this week, the show is now airing in Idol’s hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Idol says he’s tickled pink that all his friends, family and fans back home in Vegas get to watch him wrestle each and every week, and says he can’t wait until he gets the chance to wrestle there live!
Suddenly, there’s some commotion, and Bobby Heenan and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff make their way onto the set.
Orndorff admires himself in a small, hand-held mirror while Bobby Heenan picks up a microphone.
Heenan says that Idol comes out here and flaps his gums, trying to convince these humanoids that he’s something special. But Heenan says that all Idol is, is a cheap ripoff of the REAL Universal hearthrob, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff!
Idol grabs the mic out of Heenan’s hand . . .
Idol: “Whoa, hold on a second, Jackson. Look at me, look at this sexy body, you think I’M the ripoff? These women out here, Heenan, and all around the country, they know who the real hearthrob is, and it’s Austin Idol darlin’! And another thing . . . “
Orndorff grabs the mic out of Idol’s hand.
Orndorff: “Let’s get something straight, I’m the greatest thing to ever hit this sport! Idol, I’ve got a better body than you, I’m smarter than you, and let’s face it, I’m a far better wrestler than you! Idol, I can’t blame you for wanting to be like me, honestly I can’t. Every man on the face of the planet wishes he was “Mr. Wonderful”. But Idol, it’s starting to get pathetic . . .”
Idol’s heard enough, and the Universal Hearthrob slugs Orndorff right in the mouth!
The two men brawl all around the announce area, until security and several referees get them separated. As Idol is dragged to the back, Orndorff screams at him, that he’ll be sorry for putting his hands on Mr. Wonderful!
END VTR
Reynolds says that the NAWF promoters are working to get a match signed between Idol and Orndorff.
“THE UNIVERSAL HEARTHROB” AUSTIN IDOL beats SWEDE HANSON. Idol has his hands full with Hanson, but after a few minutes of back-and-forth action, Idol takes over. He takes Hanson down to the mat, and focuses on his knees, softening him up for the Las Vegas Leglock. A few minutes later, Idol slaps on the Leglock and Hanson gives up, giving Idol the win via submission.
THE BRITISH BRUISERS: DYNAMITE KID & ROLLERBALL ROCCO beat NICK DECARLO & BOB MARCUS. We get an international match here, as the Canadians DeCarlo and Marcus take on the Brits DK and Rocco. The Bruisers seem to be enjoying themselves as they toss DeCarlo and Marcus around, and don’t seem at all interested in going for a pinfall. Eventually Rocco lifts Marcus up, as though he’s going for a suplex, but instead drops him forward, mid-section first across the top rope! As Marcus falls to the mat, rolling around in agony, Rocco tags in DK, who heads to the top rope. Rocco then grabs him and tosses him off the top rope, like the MX Rocket Launcher, but instead of a splash, DK nails a headbutt. DK is dazed, but quickly shakes off the cobwebs, and covers Marcus for the 1, 2, 3.
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez put the Bruisers over as one of the most dominant teams they’ve seen, despite their smaller stature. Reynolds says that we see moves from them that we’ve never seen before, and they’re lightning-quick, but they’ve also got a mean streak a mile wide and that makes them even more dangerous.
ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER & THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) beat “SOULMAN” ROCKY JOHNSON & DINO BRAVO. This is the match that the fans here in Toledo, and watching at home on TV, have been waiting for. There’s so much bad blood between these two teams, it’s hard to imagine that this will be anything but a brawl! That’s exactly what it is, as Rocky and Bravo attack Abby and Superstar as soon as the bell rings! They tear into them, with Rocky pummeling Abby in one corner, while Bravo and Superstar trade punches in another. Superstar drives a knee into Bravo’s midsection, doubling him over, then tosses him through the ropes and to the outside, before going over and helping Abby double-team Rocky Johnson.
Johnson tries to fight both men off, but they quickly overpower him. Just as they start really working him over, Dino Bravo slides back into the ring, and throws haymakers at both Abby and Superstar! Referee Tommy Young has his hands full, but finally manages to get Abby and Rocky out of the ring, leaving Bravo and the Superstar to square off as the legal men. Bravo continues to pummel the Superstar, but the masked man leads Bravo into his corner, allowing the Butcher to take a shot at him from the apron. The Superstar then grabs Bravo, and slams his head into the top turnbuckle, before tagging in the Butcher. Abby pummels Bravo, then grabs him in a headlock and, blocking the ref’s view, repeatedly jabs a taped thumb into the throat of Bravo.
Rocky Johnson has seen enough, and he charges into the ring, tearing into Abby. This brings the Superstar back in, and once again, all four men brawl in the ring!
As Superstar brawls with Rocky, Abby tosses Bravo through the ropes and to the floor, then follows him out. Abby continues to batter Dino on the outside, but Bravo eventually turns the tables, and throws the Butcher into the steel guardrail.
Suddenly, Paul Orndorff makes his way out. Orndorff attacks Bravo from behind, sending him head-first into the steel ringpost! Orndorff picks Bravo up, and he and Abdullah deliver a SPIKE PILEDRIVER on the arena floor!
Bravo is out on the floor, he’s not moving, and Abby rolls him back into the ring, just as Austin Idol arrives at ringside and tears into Orndorff! Idol and Orndorff brawl down the aisle and to the back.
Meanwhile, Rocky Johnson and the Superstar have taken their battle to the floor on the other side of the ring. It’s just Abby and the unconscious Dino Bravo in the ring. Abby hits the Butcher’s Axe elbowdrop, then covers Bravo for the 1, 2, 3.
Rocky throws Superstar back into the ring just as Abby is making the pin, then goes to check on Bravo. Heenan and his men gloat as an emotional Rocky Johnson calls for medical help for his friend.
Reynolds, Bruiser and Montez wrap things up. A somber Reynolds says that hopefully Dino Bravo is okay, and we’ll try to get word next week on his condition. The trio then hype next week’s show, which Reynolds says will feature a match he didn’t think he’d ever see, Bruno Sammartino Jr taking on Tony Parisi!
