“CONTINENTAL WRESTLING SHOWCASE on CMT”
Taped: December 12, 1984 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama @ 6 PM
Broadcast: December 16, 1984 @ 8 PM on COUNTRY MUSIC TELEVISION
Announcers: Charlie Platt, Rick Stuart
Referee: Pee Wee Anderson
Merle Haggard urges the fans to stay right here for great wrestling action.
A highlight video from the December 15th “Continental Wrestling Wildfire” program airs:
*Scott Armstrong beats Rip Rogers in the Showcase Junior Heavyweight Tournament
*Porkchop Cash promises to help his friend, The Dream Machine, get away from Izzy Slapowitz
*The Flame beats Tony Atlas in the Continental Heavyweight Title Tournament
*Flame and Ron Fuller destroy the cowboy hat of Scott Casey while Casey is in a match.
*Chris Colt sprays Checkmate with a green mist during a six man match.
BREAK
*SHOWCASE TV TITLE: FIRST ROUND
Scott McGhee vs. Pat Rose w/Randy Rose
During the early portion of the match, Rose takes numerous chap shots from the floor. The Wrestling Pro, the CWS Commissioner, comes out and orders Randy to the back. The commotion allows McGhee to pin Pat with a northern lights suplex to advance in the tourney.
BREAK
A video is shown of Ron Starr hunting in the woods of Alabama. Starr says this isn’t as satisfying as his hunting in Viet Nam, though. He will revel in squashing that “British Pacifist” Les Thornton, again, in the Showcase Junior Tourney.
*Ron Starr b. Reggie Parks
The veteran Parks more than holds his own until Starr “snaps”. The former World Junior Champ goes ballistic, eventually locking on a camel clutch. Anderson has a real time getting Starr to break after the bell.
BREAK
*The Perfect Tag Team (Nick Kiniski/Kevin Kelly) w/Sunshine b. Jimmy Backlund/Mike Boyette.
After the match, Tojo Yamamoto hits the ring with Banzai and Virgil-San. They take what looks like two aprons and hang Kelly and Kiniski from the the ropes. Yamamoto tells Sunshine, from the desk, that she can keep the aprons to “do her job: cooking”.
BREAK
Before the match, a video is shown of Professor Bill Ash lecturing about the Indian Death Lock.
*Bill Ash b. Burrhead Jones
Ash beats the legend Jones with, you guessed it, an Indian Death Lock. He tells Stuart that nobody should forget about “The Professor”.
BREAK
*SHOWCASE TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT: FIRST ROUND
The Armstrongs (Bob and Steve) vs, Yuri Gordienko/Alexis Smirnoff w/Tojo Yamamoto
This one is dead even until Bob and Smirnoff ends up fighting on the floor in front of the desk. A jaw jacker from Armstrong sends the Russian sprawling through the interview curtain. Platt figures The Russian must be laid out as he doesn’t come right back out. Bob heads to the ring to help Steve double team Gordienko.
A bit later, Smirnoff flies through the curtain. Somebody has busted him up. He makes the tag to a weary Yuri. Bob locks on a Japanese sleeper for the win. Moments later, Steve Doll and Bobby Jaggers lay some of the boombox remnants from last week on the desk with a smile.
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band reminds the fans to tune in next week.
