“CONTINENTAL WRESTLING WILDFIRE”
Taped: November 14, 1984 Boutwell Auditorium Birmingham, Alabama @ 6 PM
Broadcast: November 17, 1984 at various times on TV stations throughout Alabama
Announcers: Charlie Platt, Corey Maclin
Referee: Pee Wee Anderson
OPENING:
Charlie and Cory welcome the fans to the first episode of “Continental Wrestling Wildfire”. Both men say they are glad to bring the fans great mat action from the greatest stars of pro wrestling. Continental Wrestling Showcase will be coming to an Alabama venue near you very soon. Charlie says that, on that note, he wants to introduce the CWS Commissioner for information about that arena action.
The fans roar for the appearance of a “man in a mask that is legendary in the annals of Alabama wrestling …”
THE WRESTLING PRO
Pro gives the fans a bit of a history lesson. The former movers and shakers in pro wrestling had become too enamored with the bottom line: MONEY. The wrestlers in the locker room and tha fans in the stands were forgotten about. It got so bad that legal action, on several fronts, were the only recourses available. But, “from the ashes”, came new wrestling organizations that put “keeping the wrestling fans happy at the top of the list”. Continental Wrestling Showcase is happy to have become one of those organizations.
Corey and Charlie are surprised to see two lovely ladies in evening gowns roll out a table of wrestling title belts. Pro says that two big cards will take place during the Christmas holidays to determine the title holders in CWS. On Christmas Night, tournaments will be held to determine the Continental Heavyweight Title and the Showcase Junior Heavyweight Title. Those will take place in the Von Braun Civic Center. On New Year’s Eve, at the Mobile Civic Center, tournaments will be held for the Showcase TV Title and the Showcase Tag Team Titles. Qualifying matches will take place on Wildfire and its sister program, “Continental Wrestling Showcase On CMT” in the coming weeks.
A man with a mike interrupts the proceedings. The fans know just who The Tennessee Stud Ron Fuller is and what he is all about. He comes out and says that he is in a giving mood. He is going to let the fans have a little fun before the latest and greatest version of The Stud Stable takes home all of those straps of gold. Turning to Pro, Fuller says “you better remember who helped you put food on the table for your family. And, the name of that family is Welch”. Pro tells Fuller that the days of those “old movers and shakers padding their pockets” we talked about earlier are done with. And, cronies like The Welches got thrown out with the bath water. Fuller is real upset but Pro tells him to deal with it or hit the road. It is a new day and that day continues after the first set of commercial messages. Charlie tells the fans to stay tuned.
BREAK
*”The King of Wrestling” Roy Lee Welch d. Al Snow
Fuller stays out to talk with Corey Maclin, at ringside, after his cousin, who wears a crown to the ring, gets a big win. Welch says that he will be in the Showcase Junior Heavyweight Title tournament to get that belt. Fuller says he recognizes that strap. It is the one Cowboy Bob Kelly had made for the Pro years ago when there was controversy over the NWA World Junior Heavyweight belt. Since Pro dissed the Welch family earlier, “we” will love taking that belt since it means so much to “that stinky sock”.
Fuller calls out the rest of his “Stud Stable”:
THE FLAME
RANDY ROSE
PAT ROSE
The masked man, in his best “scariest voice in pro wrestling” tells the fans that things are going to get hot and, when everything is burnt to the ground, The Flame will have gold around his waist. The Flame burns out all impurities and he will do so here.
The Rose Cousins say they will be front and center in Mobile for that tag tourney. Rose drives home the point that he and The Wrestling Pro have history and he is more than ready to make his life miserable again.. Pat says to remember that “cousins are two of a kind”. And that kind is WINNERS.
The Stud smiles. With both him and The Flame in the Continental tournament, The Stud Stable will bring home gold one way or another. Platt says that things will get really scary next.
BREAK
*The Devil’s Duo (Jeff Sword/Doug Vines) w/Izzy Slapowitz b. Angelo, Mosca, Jr/Billy Joe Travis
During the match, Travis and Mosca work well together. But, Slapowitz chants and reads from a large book he bought to ringside and the advantages seem to vanish. Izzy talks to Platt at the desk. He says the force he has assembled, which he calls The Devil’s Playground, will strike at the heart and soul of what is good in Showcase wrestling. More of his minions will strike as time goes on. Platt is shaky, as the program goes to commercial
BREAK
*Rip Rogers and Davey Rich wrestle to a 10-MINUTE DRAW.
Maclin remarks that both these men will be wrestling in the CWS Junior Heavyweight Title Tournament that will be decided in Huntsville on Christmas Night. But, today it looks as if Rogers has Rich beaten when he turns a high vertical suplex into a powerslam. But, Rogers, in an un-veteran like move, jaws with the ringsiders instead of making the cover. When he finally does turn around, Rich meets him with a Thesz press. The bell rings. Rich slaps hands with those ringsiders as he leaves. Rogers kicks at the bottom ropes in frustration. Corey is sure that Rip will get his act together for Christmas Night.
BREAK
When the show returns, a special video is shown. It features “The Perfect Tag Team” of Nick Kiniski and Kevin Kelly. After the presentation. Charlie is at the desk with a very lovely lady which he introduces to the fans as Sunshine. She says she is the business consultant for The Perfect Tag Team. She will handle all contract signings, public appearance schedulings, and hotel and travel bookings. “Her men” will just have to wrestle and win championships.
A figure waving a Japanese flag crosses the screenshot of Charlie and Sunshine. The fans boo lustily because they hate Tojo Yamamoto. Tojo enters the ring and rips the mike out of the hands of Corey. He calls down to Sunshine. He says that a woman’s place is in the home, cooking, cleaning, and having babies. Japanese women know this and American women like you should follow their example. Sunshine choses the high road “today” and leaves, saying that Kiniski and Kelly may have found their first target in that “little man”.
*Alexis Smirnoff/Yuri Gordienko w/Tojo Yamamoto b. Steve Doll/Bob Bradley
Steve Doll is dynamite when he is in the ring, hurting the right arms of both Russians. But, when Bradley is in the ring, things are different. A jump up on the ring apron by Yamamoto gets The Cat’s attention. Smirnoff and Gordienko tag in and out with precision. Eventually, they have Bradley in position to take the fall. But, twice, dropkicks from Doll stop the pinfall count. Yamamoto grabs Steve’s leg to prevent a third one and Smirnoff lands a heart punch. Bradley is done.
After the match, Steve Doll is beaten down by the men from the Kremlin until Bobby Jaggers hits the ring. Maclin mentions that Jaggers is a vet that couldn’t stand by and let this happen. Yamamoto and his goons take a hike. Jagers checks on Doll.
BREAK
*Scott Casey b. Charlie Fulton
The Flame, who earlier was introduced as a member of The Stud Stable, is out for commentary here. He mentions that the world of professional wrestling, indeed, does fear the very “sound of his voice”. And, in Huntsville, Scott Casey will have a reason to fear the man, too.
The Wrestling Pro comes back out and orders The Flame to “hit the bricks” and summons Ron Fuller. The Tennessee Stud is out, saying “he chooses to comply this time but you don’t order any member of The Stud Stable, Baxter”. Pro says that is exactly what he will do. Lay down the law that is to be followed to the letter. Now, Stud, you talked about what I owe you and your family. Pro says he does have a lot to pay back to The Welches and a lot of it isn’t good. In fact, another “wrestling family” got in touch with him and asked to be booked in CWS to help with the “distribution of payback funds”. The crowd roars, as, from out of the back, come….
BOB, SCOTT, and STEVE ARMSTRONG.
Fuller is livid and starts waving his hat in protest. He leaves, saying this rivalry has burned down towns all over The South and it looks as if The Wrestling Pro wants it “to rise again”. He, and his compatriots, will be happy to oblige. The Armstrongs chase Fuller to the back, as Charlie and Corey close the show.
