RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’S BOMBTRACK opens up the show as the camera pans across a raucous crowd in the Civic Center here in Charleston, W. VA.
- - - - - 7/1/96 Welcome wrestling fans, Monday Nitro is on the air! Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes, and Terry Taylor open up the broadcast discussing last week’s mega main event and its conclusion. “Yea Tone, it was a helluva match. Four bulls battle for control of da woods,” as Dusty puts it. WCW Vice President Magnum T.A. will join Mauro Ranallo a little later in this very telecast to discuss it. We are just six days away from the Great American Bash, the premier wrestling pay-per-view of the summer, and with the battle lines firmly drawn heading into the two big title matches, Lex Luger and Ricky Steamboat join forces to take on the Heavyweight Champion of the World, Curt Hennig and his heavy-hitter, the United States heavyweight champion, Scott Norton, in tonight’s main event. Plus the international influx of talent continues as one of Mexico’s hottest young Luchadores makes his WCW debut. “Take it away David Penzer…”DP: “The opening contest on Monday Nitro is a tag team match scheduled for one fall. Currently in the ring Demon Lake Japan, Gran Akuma! And his partner from Juarez, Mexico El Diablo! Their opponents making their way to the ring hail from Mexico City, and at a total of 425 lbs. they are Lizmark and Super Calo! Your referee in charge is Scott D’Amore”Super Calo and Lizmark locked up with El Diablo and Gran Akuma in the opening contest and treated the fans to high-paced action. The four masked men went at it tooth and nail, and it was obvious that Akuma had a significant striking advantage. Calo and Lizmark were able to counter that with their high flying style and pick up the victory after Lizmark caught Diablo in the Gory Special and got the submission victory.- - - - - Mauro Ranallo is standing by with the Nasty Boys, who say that for weeks now Ol Maggie T.A. been telling them that they needed to find a partner, or two partners if we wanted to get our hands on Sullivan’s Dungeon “of Crap.” So last week “we took out two jerks, got real nasty with all you freaky dungeoners, and then one of the other jerks on our team got taken out. Well me and Sags-sy here went back to the streets of New York City to find our first partner, come on in here BIG NASTY!” Big Nasty is easily the tallest man on the set, wearing a Nasty Boys cut up T-Shirt, and the same pattern on his mask with wild hair sticking out of it. Mauro interrupts and says that there are still 4 members in the Dungeon of Doom. Sags says, “that’s right, and me and Knobbs never been great at math. But this next guy he actually found us, he can’t wait to get his hands on you, Brother Kevin!”It’s THE EQUALIZER! “No no Mr. Ranallo my name is Dave, Dave Sullivan. And my big brother always told me that I wasn’t worth being called a Sullivan, so I went by the Equalizer. I never did too good here in WCW before, but that just wasn’t who I am. The Nasty Boys have helped me figure out who I am.” The seemingly timid big man takes off his Equalizer top and has a Nasty Boys cut out T-Shirt, and a Nasty Boys bandana on! “Kevin, you abusive little punk, I am Dave Sullivan, and I am NASTY!”- - - - - Dave Penzer: “Ladies and gentlemen the following contest on Nitro is scheduled for 1 fall. Hailing from New York City, he weighed in this morning at 295 lbs. ‘Heavy Metal’ Van Hammer! And his opponent, from Sweetwarter, Texas; weighing in at 271 lbs. Kendal Windham! Randy Anderson is your official in charge.”Kendal Windham took on returning WCW vet “Heavy Metal” Van Hammer and these two skyscrapers duked it out in a hard hitting contest. While the offense was “butt ugly” in comparison to the opening contest in Dusty’s opinion, it was “equally effective and more efficient” in Taylor’s opinion. Windham was able to finish off Hammer with the Bulldog headlock.. . . . . . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . . . . . . Mauro Ranallo is joined by World Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig, and the US Heavyweight Champion Scott Norton, who have a big week ahead of them. Hennig says that Lex Luger thinks he is getting exactly what he wants at the Great American Bash next Sunday. But what he is actually getting is a one-way ticket straight to the bottom of the ladder courtesy “of the only perfect champion in professional wrestling.” Their match won’t be about what Lex Luger wants; their match will be about what the Champ wants. If he wants to slap Luger he will, if he wants to give Luger a wrestling lesson he will, or if he decides he wants to break Luger’s scrawny neck, he will do that too. The U.S. Champ has a message for Ricky Steamboat, and that is that picking up a fluke pinfall in a tag match was the unluckiest thing that ever happened to him, all it earned him was a beating at the Bash, “oh yeah, and Sting, if you’re up there hiding somewhere, the smartest thing you can do is to stay perched and enjoy the show, otherwise, you will take a beating as well.”- - - - - Penzer: “The following contest is scheduled for 1 fall. First, from the South side of Chicago, Illinois; weighting in at 227 lbs. Ace Steel. And his opponent, now residing in Minnesota is being accompanied to the ring by the “First Lady of Professional Wrestling” Miss Elizableth, 234 lbs. Marc… I mean Buff Bagweel! Your referee in charge is Nick Patrick."Buff Bagwell w/Miss Elizabeth made quick work of the youngster from Chicago, Ace Steel after weathering an early onslaught from the newcomer. Bagwell posed and taunted, much to the delight of Miss Elizabeth, before hitting his devastating Blockbuster flipping neck breaker from the second rope on the inside and picking up the victory. - - - - - Mauro Ranallo has joined commentary to discuss the most recent international influx of talent, and when JJ Dillon and Magnum T.A. say they are dedicated to bringing the most exciting wresters in the world here to WCW’s Generation neXt Division, they mean it. He discusses the original Rey Mysterio’s career in Mexico, and when Rey, Jr. came along he really lit things up they were an ultra successful tag-team. Since then Rey Mysterio has made a name for himself in singles action, but he is no stranger to tag team wrestling, as he makes his debut against one of the best young tag teams in all of wrestling, Lenny and Christian, the Highlight Express. Mr. Mysterio though is not coming empty handed, he has quite the partner himself! And you’ll find out on just the other side of the break. . . . . . . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . . . . . . David Penzer: “Your next contest on Monday Nitro is tag team action and is scheduled for one fall. Accompanied to the right by ‘Lionheart’ Chris Jericho, weighing in at 457 lbs. they are Christian Cage and Lanny Lane; the HIGHLIGHT EXPRESS! And their opponents. First from Mexico City, Mexico, making his TBS and WCW debut, REY MYSTERIOR JUNIOR!!”"AND HIS PARTNER... DP:”weighing in at 232 lbs., he hails from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and he IS the WCW Generation neXt Champion, LANCE STORM! Scott D’Amore is your official."The former World Television Champion and his protégé’s meet in the corner for some last minute strategy, which appeared to be a ploy as Lenny Lane and Christian Cage charged Storm and Mysterio before the bell. Much to their chagrin they were met with stereo dropkicks that sent them hard out to the floor. Mysterio and Storm survey the landscape, they hit the far side ropes, DEULING SUICIDE DIVES send Cage and Lane halfway up the aisle, and the Civic Center is rocking! Mysterio keeps the momentum rolling with his unique brand of offense. Mysterio and Storm worked well as a unit, keeping Cage or Lane away from their corner and were also able to avoid the attempts to get involved by Jericho. Storm and Mysterio were seeming one step ahead of the Highlight Express at every turn, until two more masked me jumped the guard rail and delivered back to back swinging neck-breakers to Mysterio on the outside, and out they went back over the guard rail. We did get a good look at them Jericho is very pleased with himself as he maintained D’Amore’s attention through all of this. Storm valiantly fights back and tries to make a tag, but his partner is being checked on my EMT’s at ringside! Now the Highlight Express go to work on the GenX champion, never giving Storm a moment to breathe. A devastating Tiger Suplex from Lane to Storm with a bridge gets a 1……2……..NO! Storm just gets his shoulder up. Lenny drags him over to he and Cage’s corner, he hops up, HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT split-legged moonsaults, and he immediately tags in Christian Cage who ascends to the top rope FROG SPLASH! 1…….2…………3!!! Christian Cage just pinned the GenX Champion!Christian and Lenny celebrate like Cage just won the World Heavyweight Title, The Long-Island Loud Mouth raises his padwons’ hands and then directs traffic on Storm! Cage and Lane start putting the boots to Storm, Jericho delivers the lionsault, Cage delivers the triple jump moonsault…. WAIT A SECOND...!IT'S THE WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPION!And he is out with chair in hand and clears the ring. He and Jericho are having a verbal war as he begins to check on Lance Storm. Mysterio is finally coming too and asks Page if he knows what hit him. It’s a total mess in the ring fans, let’s take another break. . . . . . . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . . . . . . Mauro says it is quite the honor to have Vice President Magnum T.A. with him in the Great American Bash Control Center, but that is to verify that a couple of matches have been added to the card, and we don’t have a video package ready for all of them, so we will just take the time to go over them. And Mauro you certainly are the best at that. “Thanks Veep.”First of all an announcement I am thrilled to make, WCW Main Event returns to WTBS: The Superstation on July 7th at 6:05 EST, as it will one hour before each and every WCW pay-per-view production of the year. Main Event will feature yours truly Mauro Ranallo, with Magnum T.A., the Taylor Made Man, Dusty Rhodes and/or other guests. We will feature live wrestling matches as well as bringing you the latest on the Great American Bash. This weeks Main Event will feature a Lucha Libre tag team encounter, and also former World Television and multiple time World Tag Team Champion ‘Beautiful’ Bobby Eaton in the main event. Magnum says he is certainly no stranger to Eaton and that he is a legitimate threat to any man he steps in the ring with. Now on to THE GREAT AMERICAN BASH PAY PER VIEW coming LIVE from THE BALTIMORE AREANA in the beautiful state of MARYLAND! What a card Magnum! That’s right Mauro, a World Title match that Lex Luger earned all the way back in February! For The Heavyweight Championship of The World: 1 Fall 60 Minute Time Limit ©Curt Hennig defends against #1 Contender Lex Luger And Mauro I want to make one thing perfectly clear about WCW. We try our best to not have those proverbial ‘glass ceilings’ wins and losses matter here. If you don’t like how much time you get on tv, make the most of your time, make yourself noticed, and put victories together and you will be rewarded, that is how we have arrived at the next three title matches, performances. Unified World Tag Team Title Match: 1 Fall 60 Minute Time Limit Per last week’s finish this match will be NO DQ! ©Harlem Heat w/Sensational Sister Sherri defend against Big Bubba Rogers and Tony Anthony; Col. Rob Parker’s team of Southern Justice WCW United States Heavyweight Title Match: 1 Fall 30 Minute Time Limit ©Scott ‘Flash’ Norton defends against former World, World Tag, US, and TV Champ Ricky ‘the Dragon’ Steamboat While there were circumstances surrounding this outcome, they were not of his own doing, this time, so we now have a new #1 Contender for the GenX Championship. WCW GENERATION neXt CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: 1 Fall 20 Minute Time Limit ©Lance Storm defends against one-half of the Highlight Express Christian Cage WORLD TELEVISION TITLE RETURN: Grudge Match 1 Fall 20 Minute Time Limit ©Diamond Dallas Page w/Kimberly vs. Former champion ‘Lionheart’ Chris Jericho ALSO ON THE CARD ***Rey Mysterio, Jr. Billy Kidman, and El Samurai vs. La Parka, Psychosis, and El Diablo who say they are Nacido de llams, born of flames*** ***Buff Bagwell w/The First Lady of Wrestling Miss Elizabeth goes one on one with Rick Martel*** ***The Nasty Boys team up with the unknown “Big Nasty” and Kevin Sullivan’s brother Dave to meet Kevin Sullivan, Hugh Morrus, and The Faces of Fear, The Dungeon of Doom!***- - - - - Dave Penzer: “Your next contest is scheduled for one fall. Already in the ring he weighed in at 266 lbs. The Black Top Bully. And his opponent, from Huntsville, AL. Weighing in at 227 lbs. accompanied by Col. Rob Parker, he is ‘Beautiful’ Bobby”These two vets lock it up in an old school mat based grappling encounter. The bully went to the eyes to gain the upper hand, and was very pleased with himself after scrubbing Eaton’s eyes across the length of the top rope. What he wasn’t very pleased with was the big right hands from Sweet Home Alabama that Eaton jacked his jaw with. The Huntsville native picked up the pace of the contest, impressively planting his much larger opponent with a one-man flap jack before putting the Bully away with The Alabama Jam top-rope leg drop.. . . . . . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . . . . . . Ranallo is now joined by the Dragon and the Total Package, mere moments away from the huge main event, and only 6 days away from two huge opportunities. “That’s right Mauro, Lex and I have had opportunities throughout out career, but in this profession, the most important opportunity is always the next one. The key to tonight is to A. get our hands on Norton and Hennig, and B. to come out of the match 100%.” Lex totally agrees, “I really gotta hand it to the Dragon, he really helped me get things into perspective. I got my hands on Buff Bagwell inside a steel cage, and that felt real good. And that if I let Curt Hennig get into my head this close to the biggest match of my life then I have already lost. Ric Flair taught me that. Ricky Steamboat reminded me of that.” Mauro says that he can really appreciate each man’s frame of mind, but what about the numbers advantage possessed by both Hennig and Norton who never have Buff or Liz too far behind? Lex and Ricky are in agreement that they have a little something up their sleeve for the Buffster, and that it ain’t either man’s first rodeo. “There ya have it fans, complete and total focus portrayed by the #1 contender’s moments before the main event. Now let’s send it to Dave Penzer with our stand-by match!”Dave Penzer: “The following contest is a stand by match with a special 10 minute time limit. Introducing first, from Tampa, Florida; 231 lbs. David ‘Backbreaker’ Young. And his opponent 284 lbs. from the Isle of Samoa, the ‘Godfather’ Samu! And he is accompanied by Iaukea and Rosey. Scott D’amore is your official."Samu locks up with the piston like ball of muscle, and gets an early go behind, but ends up tasting not one but two of Mr. Young’s back breaker variations, the “Curse” version even got a near fall on the rugged veteran. But the Godfather showed his protégé’s at ringside exactly what he meant by having an “edge” as he dug, gouged, clawed, and head-butted the outmatched youngster; battering him on the canvas before picking him up and flattening him with the Super Samoan (Death Valley) Driver.“Fans don’t you dare go away, when we return it is MAIN EVENT time on Monday Nitro!”. . . . . . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . . . . . . Tony, Terry, and Dusty welcome us back from break and discuss what has been a major episode of Nitro. Six days from THE must have pay per view of the Summer, THE GREAT AMERICAN BASH, we have quite the preview of sorts. And fans this has just been handed to me, per the orders of Vice President Magnum T.A., Buff Bagwell’s opponent RICKY MARTEL, will be allowed at ringside in the corner of The Total Package and The Dragon. “One still has to wondah, Tone, the whereabouts of the Stinger. He has played such a pib, pivb, pivotal factor through this rollah coast-ah ride! We have no answers from da Stingah, tho is appears he wants to bring down Curt Hennig.” Tony and Terry agree, Taylor says that, “after all Lex Luger has put Sting through over the years, I can only assume that this is more about Curt Hennig than Lex Luger. Hennig has gone too far in recent months, and his judgment, so to speak, has been passed down, and the executioner is ever looming…” Excellent commentary guys, now fans, buckle up, here we go, "David Penzer take it away!”DP: “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your main event of Monday Nitro and is scheduled for 1 fall with tv time remaining. Your referee in charge is WCW Senior Official Nick Patrick. Introducing first…”DP: “From Charlotte, North Carolina, he weighed in at 237 lbs. He is the former Heavyweight Champion of the World! Ricky ‘THE DRAGON’ Steamboat! And his partner is from Chicago, Illinois, he weighed in at 292 lbs. and is the #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, ‘the TOTAL PACKAGE’ LEX Luger! And their opponents…”DP: “First, from Robbinsdale, MN, weighing in at 313 lbs.; he is THE United States Heavyweight Champion, Scott ‘Flash’ NORTON! And his partner is….” The champ whispers something to Penzer, who corrects his posture and resumes, “And his partner: also from Robbinsdale, MN weighed in at 240 lbs. and he is the ONLY PERFECT CHAMPION in wrestling today; and he is YOUR WCW Heavyweight Champion of the World, CURT HENNIG!”There were some serious stare downs during Nick Patrick’s final instructions; we were treated to Ricky Steamboat and Curt Hennig attempting to establish dominance in the grappling department. Both were amateur all-Americans; both men worked out from under legendary shadows, Ricky from uncle Sam Steamboat, and of course Curt from Larry the Axe. They have surpassed those shadows, and etched out legacies all their own. Steamboat works from a side headlock, a front headlock, and uses a variety of trips, tosses, and counters that bring the “perfect” champion back into a headlock. Steamboat is really grinding away on the ears in a front headlock, he yanks Hennig to his feet and knees him in the bread basket, Ricky “clubbers” him across the back and heads toward the total package, who gets the tag. Wisely the Champ escaped the wrong corner and made it to his own where he tagged in the heavy hitter.Big Scott Norton and Lex Luger’s problems are well documented in WCW, over that United States title. These two bulls lock up in a Greco-Roman knuckle lock test of strength, that the former World Champion Arm Wrestler, ‘Flash’ Norton got on top of quickly, talking smack to Luger the whole time. With Ricky Steamboat leading the rally, the Civic Center firmly got behind the Total Package as he began to power out of the test of strength, but Norton quickly put a thumb in his eye, a forearm across the bridge of his nose, and put the tip of his boot into his stomach before tagging in a rejuvenated Curt Hennig. Perfect execution of the classic boxing: 1,2,1,2,1,2,3, drops Luger, as Curt takes a sever tongue lashing from Nick Patrick. Hennig backs into his corner, knee drop across the forehead! He hops up in Steamboat’s face and snicker’s at him as he runs back across the ring, perfect flip over neck breaker. WOOOO! Hennig lets out with a hardy laugh. He rolls down the knee pad this time, he’s going back to the well, knee-drop, but NOBODY HOME! Lex rolls out of the way, rolls from under an elbow drop, he blocks a Hennig forearm smash by Irish-whipping the champion into the far ropes, BIONIC FOREARM SMASH! Both men are down. And both men make the tag!Steamboat comes in chopping away at the barrel chest of Scott Norton, plus one for the World Champ in the corner, plus one for that pampas ass Buffy as he gets on the apron, now a dropkick has Norton reeling!, The Dragon bounces off the ropes, he leaps, strike to the top of the head finally brings Norton down to one knee. Dropkick to the side of the head finally drops the massive US Champion. Steamboat hooks the ankles, jack-knife cover, 1…….2……..NO! Hennig breaks it up. Steamboat corners Hennig on his way out and is letting him have it with chops. But here comes Norton, BOOM! he Avalanches in behind Steamboat, sending both the Dragon and the Champion crashing down. Lex Luger has made it to his feet and here he comes, BIONIC FOREARM! To the back of Norton’s head sends him flying through the second and third rope, but not before Norton takes down Nick Patrick as well!Lex Luger grabs the World Heavyweight Champion, he hooks him up, he racks him! THE HUMAN TORTURE RACK IS IN! Hennig’s arm is waving and flopping around like crazy, but there is no official to say whether or not he’s quit! Here comes Buff Bagwell with BLACK baseball bat to the ribcage of Luger, but he is stopped dead in his tracks by Rick Martel! Martel and Bagwell fight for control of the bat when Scott Norton clubbers Martel from behind, which frees up Bagwell. He delivers a BIG SHOT! To the back of the neck of Steamboat, and Bagwell looks up toward the rafters as if to challenge Sting! Bagwell revives Nick Patrick in time to see Hennig roll an arm over Ricky Steamboat, 1…..2…….3! Hennig and Norton have won it!“Tone, Terry, I don’t think that Bagwell, Hennig, and Norton could have made their intentions more clear. They are ready for Sting. But there was no returning savior here tonight Tone. Will there be this Sunday, in Baltimore?” Tony comments on the trio powerbombing Ricky Steamboat and then holding Lex Luger up while Curt Hennig paintbrushes him across the face. “HAHA Schiavone and Rhodes, the Champ certainly stuck it to all the little Stingers tonight didn’t they! They get the last laugh, hey Rhodes, how do you think Bagwell got that bat? Hmmm? Sting is probably lying around cold as a cucumber in the back somewhere, bwahahaha.” Tony certainly hopes not, but it is certainly quite the visual of Hennig, Norton, and Bagwell standing tall over Martel, Steamboat, and Luger. “Just where is Sting?”

Mauro plays a highlight video of La Familia Nacido de Llamas, the family born of the flames. Psychosis and La Parka are shown hitting their trademark Lucha spots in packed buildings throughout Mexico, the entire Familia comes into screen with those two, El Diablo, Gran Akuma, and La Diabolica. Mucho espanol is spouted about, you can clearly make out threatening vibes being thrown toward Rey Mysterio. Diabolica lets out a demonic cackle as Akuma spits a fireball and Familia de llamas poses. DP: “The fist contest is scheduled for 1 fall, your official in charge is Mr. Scott D’Amore. First from the Southside of Chicago, 221 lbs., ACE STEEL! And his opponent accompanied by La Diabolica, from the belly of the beast, this is GRAN AKUMA!Under the direction of Diabolica at ringside, Akuma is a man possessed utilizing his super striking skills to their fullest advantage battering the young second-city saint. Akuma delivers a devastating back-spring spinning elbow into the corner that staggers Steel, Akuma drops to one knee, posses in meditation, and delivers his fearsome Shoryuken Uppercut for the 1………2………3!. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . DP: “The following contest is scheduled for 1 fall, your referee in charge is Randy Anderson. First at a total combined weight of 515 lbs. Iaukea and Rosey, DEM ALOHA BOYS, and they are led to the ring by the “Godfather” Samu. Their opponents, from Cuba, at a total combined weight of 555 lbs., Hercules Ayala and David Sierra, LATINOS TOROS!”The rugged veterans from Cuba test the island boys early on, using every dirty trick in the book. Samu stayed true to his word however not assisting, but was very proud to see Iaukea not let the referee’s warnings stop him from saving his cousin from a double team in the far corner. With Iaukea the legal man the pace picks up and David Sierra is in real trouble now that Rosey has had a breather and checks back in. A Super Samoan (Death Valley) Driver which Iaukea cleans up with a SUPERFLY SPLASH, Rosey covers, 1……2……..3!Pre-recorded comments from Kendal Windham air as he makes his way to the ring, and the big Texan said that he has finally mastered his “family secret” and that this trait will bring him big paydays, while bringing despair to those unfortunate souls who step into the ring with him. DP: “The following contest is scheduled for 1 fall, senior official Nick Patrick is in charge of the action. First from Edna, Oklahoma, weighing in at 262 lbs. Erik Watts! And his opponent standing 6’6” and weighing 265 lbs., he is from Sweetwater, Tx; KENDALL WINDHAM!”Watts puts up a good fight early, but the gloved right hand of Windham takes a toll on the former University of Louisville quarterback. Windham plants Watts with his patent diving bulldog headlock, but holds on with THE CLAW! And he is digging deep into the temples of Watts, who fights and fights, but eventually passes out, 1…….2………3! That’s all she wrote.Mauro is standing by with Dave Sullivan, Big Nasty, and The Nasty Boys who are all dressed up in Nasty influenced camo, and look and say they’re ready for war! The Dungeon might be big and scary, but they ain’t near as nasty as the four hombres on stage right now! Big Nasty just grunts away while Dave thanks the Nasty Boys for the chance, and once he gets his hands on Kevin, he will make him pay! The American Dream Dusty Rhodes is standing by with Lex Luger and Ricky the Dragon Steamboat who have big matches tonight on PPV. Ricky Steamboat says that Scott Norton is one of the biggest and baddest men he’s ever come across in his nearly 20 years in wrestling, but that won’t stop him from using his technique, his skill, his experience, and his heart to come out victorious; the new United States Champion! Lex Luger says the clock is ticking on Curt Hennig, and the champ can spins things however he wants, but no matter what he says, Lex knows down deep that Curt Hennig never wanted to go one-on-one with the Total Package. That is why all the stumbling blocks have been laid at his feet, but noting, “AND I MEAN NOTHING” will stop Lex Luger from attaining his destiny, and that is to be the next Heavyweight Champion of the World! . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . Penzer: “Introducing first, from Juarez, Mexico at a total combined weight of 450lbs. Uno and Dos, the SILVER KINGS! And their opponents, first from Tijuana, Mexico; weighing in at 222 lbs. SUPER CALO! And his partner from the Gulf of Mexico, 218 lbs. LIZMARK!”Silver King I and Super Calo begin the contest with a couple quick exchanges, and the veteran rudo takes control. Tagging in and out with his brother they utilize the Lucha trick of not needing a tag if the action hits the floor, and keep Calo dazed and confused. Lizmark comes flying across the ring with a twisting corkscrew plancha over the top rope and nails both Silver Kings! He now takes the action inside and hits a seated senton off a springboard from inside out which gets a two count and Lizmark tags in his partner who hits finishes Silver King II off after locking in tight on a forward facing neck crank, where Calo took off up the turnbuckles, flipping over, SLICED BREAD #2! Gets the victory for Super Calo and Lizmark.. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . Kimberly is standing by with her man World Television Champion Diamond Dallas Page and WCW Generation neXt Champion Lance Storm who are ready to defend their titles tonight. They say that Chris Jericho, Lenny Lane, and Christian Cage are all talented athletes, and future greats but their butts are getting a bit too big for their britches. Their egos will get their better of them and until experience catches up with them they won’t be able to keep their heads long enough to be champions. Not even the tricks and switcheroos will be able to help them take the gold. DDP says that one way or another, “Jericho, Highlight monkeys, you will. Feel. The. BAAANG!”Mauro Ranallo is now joined by The Taylor Made Man as they get ready for the main event here on Main Event, they discuss the massive pay-per-view. Taylor says that tonight’s biggest question is the same one that has been the biggest question for weeks now, “where is Sting? Is he in the building? Is he the WCW ‘Dark Knight,’ the righter of wrongs so to speak? Or does he have his own agenda?” Ranallo says that it’s difficult to fathom the absence of the franchise at an event such as the Great American Bash, one he along "with The American Dream, along with Ric Flair, along with the Road Warriors, and along with War Games: The Match Beyond, he put on the map!” Indeed it wouldn’t be the Great American Bash without the Stinger. But we have 5 gigantic title matches in all, the in ring debut of “La Familia Nacido de Llamas,” as Rey Mysterio looks to exact a measure of revenge with his partners El Samurai and Billy Kidman, plus the huge 8 man free for all, The Nasty Boys, their partner Big Nasty, and the brother of Kevin Sullivan, the man calls himself Dave, but Taylor says, “the idiot signed the contract as EVAD, WCW shouldn’t even pay the moron, who is Evad? The man’s name is Dave!” Whoever he is, he will be looking for revenge on his older brother as they take on the entire Dungeon of Doom! Not to mention a tag team encounter that, “I personally have been waiting on pins and needles for,” says Mauro; the Unified World Tag Team Title rematch, as Harlem Heat once again meets the stiffest challenge to their reign Tony Anthony and Big Bubba, Col. Parker’s Southern Justice, speaking of which, here comes the Colonel, which means “it’s MAIN EVENT TIME”DP: “Ladies and Gentlemen this is your television main event and it is scheduled for 1 fall. Introducing first, in the ring to my left, from Liverpool, Eng.; weighing in at 236 lbs. DAVID TAYLOR! And his opponent being led to the ring by Col. Robert E. Lee Parker, weighing 229 lbs.; from The Dark Side, ‘BEAUTIFUL' BOBBY!”Eaton and Taylor lock up and grapple about the ring like two artisans at work. Taylor’s smash-mouth British “grinder” style; meshing against Eaton’s slick, counter grappling efficiency kept both men guessing and working hard to sustain any kind of offensive momentum. Taylor flashed moments of brilliance ascertaining a near fall after a victory roll, and another after an arm-trapped suplex with a bridge. He nearly got the submission victory with the Regal Stretch STF, but the wiley Eaton was able to get to the ropes, roll out, and catch a breather. After another couple of exchanges, Eaton was able to leverage Taylor chin first across the middle turnbuckle and plant him with a swinging neck-breaker before finishing off his opponent with the Alabama Jam, top rope leg drop!Mauro and Magnum put over what a great main event that was, and excitedly run down the PPV card that will kick off in mere moments. “And before we send it to Tony, The Dream, and Terry, I would like to say that fans be sure and get your parents’ permission to call early and often into the WCW Hotline; 1-900-909-9900 where I will have up to the minute information, the biggest and best interviews, as well as my match ratings at the conclusion of the pay-per-view! Call your cable provider and then call the hotline, folks!”. . . . . . . . 5.....4....3...2..1. . . . . . . . . RAGE AGAINSt THE MACHINE’S BOMBTRACK opens the pay-per-view broadcast where Dave Penzer is getting the crowd pumped, as he wastes no time getting down to business with match number 1! DP: “Ladies and Gentlemen the first contest of the Great American Bash is a six-man, LUCHA LIBRE contest scheduled for 1 fall. Mr. Scott D’Amore is your referee in charge. Coming to the ring first, led by La Diabolica they weighed in at a total combined weight 645 lbs. Psychosis, La Parka, and El Diablo, LA FAMILIA NOCIDO de LLAMAS! And their opponents, at a total combined weight of 588 lbs. from Minneapolis, MN BILLY KIDMAN, from Tijuana, MX REY MYSTERIO, JR., and from Michinoku Pro Wrestling EL SAMURAI!”Psychosis and La Parka tag in and out quickly, dominating El Samurai in the early going. The lucha rules enabling switches without tags once the legal man hits the floor is in full effect here, Diablo knows them quite well, and the men born of the flame are on fire during the onset. Diablo hits several spectacular moves, most out of the springboard from anywhere around the ring. Springboard huracanrana sends Samurai throat first on the middle rope where Diablo stands on his neck! Mysterio has had his fill! Dropkick sends Diablo to the floor, like a cat Mysterio leaps to the top rope, down onto the shoulders of Diablo, he rolls through, huracanrana sends Diablo half way up the apron!
Mysterio’s celebration is short lived as here comes La Parka diving through the ropes, SUICIDE DIVE topples Mysterio. La Parka does his infamous dance strut thing as his partner Psychosis prepares to take Mysterio out! But Kidman makes the save and backdrops Psychosis over the top rope and crashing down onto his partner. Kidman ascends to the top rope SHOOTING STAR PRESS TO THE FLOOR! HOLY SHIT!
Psychosis, El Samurai, La Parka, and Billy Kidman are out of commission on the floor and the Baltimore Arena is going bananas! Meanwhile El Diablo gut shots Mysterio and sends him back into the ring. As Diablo enters Mysterio hits him with a leg drop across the back of his head, Mysterio pulls Diablo to the center of the ring, he hits the far ropes, he leaps to the middle rope, he leaps to the top rope, TRIPLE JUMP MOONSAULT! This one is history… Winners: El Samurai, Billy Kidman, and Rey MysterioLa Diabolica calls to the back, and here comes GRAN AKUMA! The last member of La Familia! A stomp to the downed heads of Kidman and Samurai for good measure ensures the fresh Demon has his way with Mysterio for a bit. Psychosis begins to revive as Akuma and Diablo hold Mysterio down Psy screams, and spits, and rips at the mask of Rey Mysterio, and La Familia Nocido de Llamas stands tall… Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes, and Terry Taylor comment on the amazing opening contest we just witnessed, and remind everyone that action like that can only be brought to you by World Championship Wrestling. The American Dream senses a deep animosity between Psychosis and Rey Mysterio that obviously extends much further than their runs here in “Dubya Cee Dubya.” Taylor says that seems to be the case, but Psychosis has an entire family behind him; “Mysterio might need the entire Mexican Calvary.” Schiavone reminds everyone watching on PPV that Mauro Ranallo will have interviews, thoughts, and the latest break news all night long on the WCW Hotline, “children get your parents’ permission. David Penzer, take it away!”DP: “The following contest is scheduled for one fall, Randy Anderson is your official in charge. Introducing first from Nova Scotia, weighing in at 233 lbs. RICK MARTEL! And his opponent, accompanied to the ring by ‘The First Lady of Professional Wrestling’ Miss Elizabeth, from the great state of Minnesota, weighing 230 lbs. BUFF BAGWELL!”Nice back and forth action early on. Martel sees control early in the contest, Buff is having trouble with the difference in experience, thinks the Taylor Made Man. A reset on the outside and a huddle with the First Lady got Buff’s hind in gear, as he unleashed a striking offense on the former Canadian Champion. Bagwell delivered multiple picturesque dropkicks, one of which got a near fall, the second of which ended up with him caught in Martel’s signature BOSTON CRAB! Have to hand it to Bagwell though as he refused to quit, while Randy Anderson was separating the men in the ropes, the First Lady found time to rake Martel in his eyes to give her man that moment he needed to take control. And that he did, finishing off the veteran Martel with his Blockbuster Flipping Neck Breaker from the middle rope on the inside! After the bout Bagwell and The First Lady posed down for any camera at ringside. Even the ones that weren’t searching for them. Tony says that this next one he expects is right up Dusty’s ally. The Dream agrees and suggest that quite the “clubberin” is about to occur as all “foh members of da Dungeon of Doom” will go to war with the Nasty Boys, their masked hitman ‘Big Nasty’ and, low and behold, the bigger, younger brother of Kevin Sullivan himself! Dave! Terry interrupts and says that what we have here is a walking moron who is so dyslexic he signed the contract for this match as “E-v-a-d.” Terry says that “if it’d been his little brother he would have done him a lot worse, and that EVAD should be thankful that his brother has yet to lay his hands on him before now!”Penzer: “The next contest at the Great American Bash is scheduled for one fall and will be contested under TEXAS TORNADO RULES, all 8 men will be legal at one time, but the deciding pinfall or submission must occur inside the squared circle, senior official Nick Patrick’s decision is final. Introducing first, ‘Taskmaster’ Kevin Sullivan, Hugh Morrus, and the Faces of Fear, THE DUNGEON OF DOOM! And their opponents; hailing from Nastyville the team of Dave Sullivan, Big Nasty, and THE NASTY BOYS!This one is wild and crazy. Action is occurring all around ringside, while the referee is mainly focusing on nothing more than the action that does take place in the ring. Hugh Morrus put on quite the show on the floor putting Big Nasty through a table while holding a section of guard rail and delivering a standing moonsaults off of the apron! What unbelievable agility from the big man!
Dave Sullivan got more than his fair share of redemption against his brother the Taskmaster beating him all around the ringside area, even appeared to have him stopped after a big leg drop. Meng and Barbarian separated from the nasty Boys long enough to save their Taskmaster and put a beating on ol “Evad.” Now in the ring Nick Patrick could only sit on the top turnbuckle and watch as Knobbs, Sags, Sullivan, Sullivan, Meng, and Barbarian went berserk inside. He flew around the ring like he was playing leap frog trying to make pinfalls. The kick of fear delivered by Barbarian to Sags began an emptying of the ring as Knobbs dumped Barbarian only to be dropped to the floor after Meng delivered the Tongan Spike to the side of his temple knocking him cold! Meng then planted Dave Sullivan with the Tongan Death Grip as Kevin delivered repeated leaping double stomps to the gut before Nick Patrick finally called for the bell and awarded this wild one to the Dungeon of Doom!Mauro Ranallo is standing by with “Lionheart” Chris Jericho and The Highlight Express: Christian Cage and Lenny Lane who is in street clothes as his two compadres go for singles gold tonight. Jericho says that Page caught him by surprise, and has been a fine placeholder champion, but now Jericho is ready to return to his throne as the “KING OF ALL TELEVISION!” Cage says that pinning that “benchwarmer” Storm on Nitro was tame in comparison to what he would put him through tonight, “BINGO,” chimes in Lanny. Cage says that he is what Generation neXt is all about and that “I, CHRISTIAN SHALL BE YOUR LEADER!”DP: “The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is for the WCW Generation NeXt Championship! Mr. Scott D’Amore is your official in charge. Introducing first, the challenger! Weighing in at 222 lbs., he hails from Tronoto, Canada, one half of the Highlight Express, CHRISTIAN CAGE! And his opponent is the current and defending GenX Champ! He weighs in at 225 lbs. and hails from Calgary. Alberta. Canada, LANCE STORM!”Christian came out for battle alone and proceeded to give the defending champion all he could handle. Cage mixed up mat-based action concentrating on the left knee of Storm, and as Storm would get a tad bit of separation Christian would pick up the pace, dropkick, leaping leg lariat, armdrag’s, basement dropkicks. Everything that Christian was throwing was sticking, and sticking the champion hard! Go behind waistlock, Christian pops the hips, GERMAN SUPLEX with a bridge, 1….2..NO! Storm just got the shoulder up. Cage is feeling it now as he thumps his chest and ascends to the top rope, but he spent too much time posturing as the Champion caught him with a leaping enzuiguiri! Down comes Cage, and on the offense goes Storm.
Standing vertical dropkick drops Cage, Storm works a double chicken-wing, but Christian refuses to submit. So Lance pops the hips, and plants Cage with a Tiger Suplex and a bridge, 1…..2……NO! Corkscrew elbow from Storm misses, springboard reverse leg-drop from Christian misses, diving knee-drop from Storm misses, Christian goes for a front kick to the face, but it is caught by Storm! He flips him, reverses base, MAPLE LEAF single-leg crab is locked in! Christian manages to get to the ropes where Storm keeps up the pressure with elbows, knees, and chops; Storm fires Christian across the ropes, but Christian holds on as Storm misses the dropkick and crashes hard to the mat! Christian goes to the top rope, FROG SPLASH! He nailed it! 1……..2………….3!NO! Storm just got the shoulder up! Christian can’t believe it and is throwing a tantrum in the ring! Storm locks up his arms, crucifix pinfall, 1…..2……NO! Christian pops out and hops up, roaring elbow from Storm drops Christian. Now the champ is lifting him up in a suplex position, here comes the Corkscrew Brainbuster! But Christian knees his way out of trouble and delivers a dropkick of his own! Christian is going back to the well again and climbs to the top turnbuckle, he ducks Storms attempted enzuiguiri, but Storm lands on his feet and hops up on the top rope! SUPER BRAINBUSTER FROM THE TOP ROPE! Storm hooks the leg, 1……2……..3! Lance Storm has defended the Generation NeXt Championship!Lance Storm helps Christian to his feet as he still is on rubber legs. Storm extends his hand, Christian seems to be thinking it over when the other half of the Highlight Express Lenny Lane shows up at ringside, and Cage exits with his partner, Storm celebrates with his title… Tony, Terry, and Dusty comment on the outstanding match we just witnessed, and Dusty says he wishes that Christian had taken Lance’s hand and that Christian and Lenny might turn out ok in “dis industree” if they get out from under the palm of Jericho. Taylor says that The Lionheart will prove how ludicrous that statement is when he marches out here, takes that TV title from DDP and then the Highlight Express will know beyond a doubt they have allied with the future of professional wrestling. Tony says that we can only hope the string of ridiculously good matches involving Chris Jericho continues here tonight as he looks to regain the World Television Championship and, “in his own words, once again be the King of all T.V.”Penzer: “The next contest at the Great American Bash is scheduled for one fall and is for the World Television Championship; Randy Anderson is your official in charge. Introducing first the Challenger! Hailing from Long Island, New York weighing in at 225 lbs. he is the former WCW World Television Champion, the ‘Lionheart’ CHRIS JER-I-CHO! And his opponent is the defending champion, hailing from the Jersey Shore, he weighed in at 247 lbs., and he is accompanied by the ‘Diamond Doll’ Kimberly, he is D.D.P. DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE!”DDP and Y2J start off nose to nose bickering back and forth, which sets off a fist fight. Rhodes and Taylor question the early strategy of Jericho, fist fighting the former bouncer from the Jersey Shore. Tony is quick to point out though that it was Jericho who withstood the onslaught, allowing Page to empty the gas tank, which is sound strategy. “Dat is only if he can survive that onslaught, Tone.” Well said, Dream, well said. Page, ever evolving as a grappler, slowed down the pace and began to lean on Jericho, putting that extra 20 lbs. to good use, making Jericho carry it around. Page is wickedly working a rear chinlock, driving his feet into the mat, grinding away, with as much additional leverage as he can muster. Jericho finally makes it to the ropes, and takes a stroll to clear his head.
Jericho slams the mat in frustration, walks right up into Dallas Page’s face, and slaps the taste out his mouth! Page swings and misses; DDP hurls another hay-maker at the Long-Island Loud Mouth, but only find air. Jericho rolls to the floor, and Page gives chase. Wisely Jericho rolls back into the ring, and puts the boots to Page, doesn’t allow him to enter. Jericho grabs the top rope, and drives his feet through the bottom and middle rope, right into DDP’s nose, putting him back to the floor. Page begins to stir on the outside, Jericho SLINGSHOTS over and takes Page out! “C,MON BABY,” screams Jericho as he beats his chest. Now it is his turn to wear on Page.
Jericho goes to work on the lower back and kidney area of Page. Running knees to the back each time Page hits his feet, brings a sick grin across the former champions face. Jericho fires Page into the ropes, tilt-a-whirl back breaker, Jericho flies across the ring, LIONSAULT! He hooks the leg, 1……2………..NO! Page gets the shoulder up! Jericho locks in a head-scissors and is grinding away at the champion! “GIVE IT UP PAGE!” But Dallas refuses, finally he locks up Jericho’s feet, pops his head out from the clasp of Jericho and delivers not one, but two devastating right hands to the jaw of Jericho! Page begins a comeback now, discus clothesline drops Jericho, and running knee lift drops Jericho once again. Page hits the turnbuckle, flying knee drop across the forehead of the challenger! 1……..2…….NO! Jericho somehow manages to get the shoulder up. Both men’s gas tank is starting to run on E as Dave Penzer announces that we’ve reached the 5 minute mark!
Jericho and Page hear the announcement and charge after each other again, neither man wants a draw at this point. But once again, Jericho is engaging in a fist fight, which doesn’t suit him. But, ah ha, there is a method to the madness as Jericho is playing “peek-a-boo” on the ropes and gassing Page! A blistering CHOP echoes throughout Baltimore Arena as Jericho fires off of the ropes and takes control of the champion. German suplex plants Page, Jericho puts a foot on his chest and poses, barely gets a one count, but his point is served as we are nearing the 3 minute mark. Jericho drops Page across his own thigh, KNEE-BREAKER! Jericho rolls him over, LIONTAMER! “THERE ARE 3 MINUTES REMAINING!”
Can DDP hold on for 180 seconds? “No way Page can withstand this Dusty and Tony, he has to get the break!” Terry’s prophecy is on the money! DDP is close to tapping, he is biting his own hand! He grabs the bottom rope, he twists with everything he has and Jericho is forced to release. Jericho charges, Pages pulls himself up by the top rope BANG! DIAMOND CUTTER!
Both men are down! Jericho isn’t moving! Kimberly and the fans are urging Page to make the cover. He claws, he scratches, he gets the arm across, 1…….2………………3! NO NO NO! Jericho kicked out, and Page can’t believe it! Page looks over at Randy Anderson who can only shrug his shoulders, Jericho rolls him up, 1…..2…..NO! Page kicks out and hops to his feet, Jericho ducks another discus clothes line, dropkick from Jericho and now ‘Lionheart’ is heading to the top rope! “90 seconds remain, 90 seconds,” Penzer announces the time, Jericho yells at Page to “GET UP!” Jericho flies off the top rope, Page hops to his feet! BANG! DIAMOND CUTTER! Page quickly wraps Jericho up, 1…….2…………3!! DDP retains the Television Title!Mauro Ranallo is joined by Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat and ‘The Total Package’ Lex Luger, and “gentlemen; tonight the golden goose is within your grasps." “Indeed it is Mauro,” begins Luger. Lex says that many years ago he entered professional wrestling as the next big thing, and there have been many ups and downs, “self-sabotaging; intended and unintended included.” But tonight, for the first time in his entire career, The Total Package feels that he is in the right place, at the right time, “destiny is at hand, and I will. I WILL, attain my ultimate destiny, and become the World Heavyweight Champion!”Ricky Steamboat says that for a year now Curt Hennig has been at the top of the pro-wrestling world, and while Ricky Steamboat respects Curt Hennig the athlete, what he does not respect is the “win at any costs mentality.” Ricky Steamboat has been World Heavyweight Champion; he knows the fear that comes along with everyman in the wrestling world having you in his sights. But that never caused Ricky Steamboat to resort to politicking, mind games, or calling on “childhood buddies” to handle his problems for him. So tonight Curt Hennig’s entire world comes crashing down. First The Dragon takes the United States Heavyweight Championship off of Curt’s best friend, removing that road block on the highway, and finally, after months and months of sacrifice and heart break, Lex Luger will take all the power from Curt Hennig! “Gentlemen strong words from the two challengers, I will be heading to the broadcast booth for the last 3 matches of the evening, and right now I want to send it to the back, where our newest WCW correspondent delivers the happiest interview of her blossoming career, Kimberly…”“Thanks, Mauro.” Kimberly is standing by with her man, Diamond Dallas Page who just retained the World Television Championship after a grueling battle. Page says that, “that damn Jericho is as tough as they come, he knows all the tricks, and for all his big talk, I think that someday Chris Jericho will be a World Champion,” but that day ain’t today, and tonight was Diamond Dallas Page’s night. DDP looks forward to any and all challengers as he sets his sight on becoming the greatest World Television Champion of all time, “I’m talking about surpassing the ‘Stunning’ Steve’s, Dusty Rhodes’, and Tully Blanchard’s of the world.” In conclusion, Page is getting a “self-high five” for his performance tonight, celebrating the night away in Baltimore with his lady (as he gives Kimberly a big kiss!) and then, “DDP hits the gym at sun-up and sets his nose back to the grindstone, BANG!” Kimberly giggles as she grabs her man and sends it back to Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes, and Mauro Ranallo. Tony and Dusty welcome Mauro in for the final 3 matches of the night, as the 3 top Championships in all of the Wrestling World are on the line. Up first the heavy-hitter Scott Norton is set to defend the US Title against former “grand slam” champion in WCW, Ricky Steamboat. Mauro says that it is a classic match-up of striker vs. grappler, technique and leverage versus raw-bone strength and aggression. Scott Norton is a former World Arm-Wrestling champion, and is a lifelong friend of Curt Hennig, and also a man familiar to wrestling fans across the planet “Ravishing” Rick Rude. Dusty says that while those three took separate journeys to the top of the “bidness” it is no fluke that they all made it. Hard work, desire, and toughness, got them Minnesota boys to the top. But those attributes describe Ricky Steamboat in spades. Like a fine wine The Dragon was aged very well, adapting his style to stay current. Which Mauro points out that, “not as many of Steamboat’s contemporaries have done such, as well as the Dragon has been able to.” Tony nods in agreement and says that another thing, is that Steamboat, much like the great Nature Boy Ric Flair always specialized with “big men.” Very few people in the history of the sport have been able to take the beating that a Ricky Steamboat can withstand. Schiavone and Ranallo imagine that Steamboat will employ a similar strategy to that of Chris Jericho in the previous match, and try to make Norton ware himself out. Dusty points to the recent pinfall victory that Steamboat holds over Norton, and believes that if this match goes deep, that will start to play on the mind of Norton who is so used to being dominant. Excellent point Dream, excellent point. David Penzer: “Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest at the Great American Bash is scheduled for 1 fall and is for the UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP! Mr. Scott D’amore is your official in charge. Introducing first the challenger, from Charlotte, North Carolina, he weighed in at 229 lbs. and is a former Heavyweight Champion of the World, RICKY ‘the Dragon’ STEAAAAAMBOAT! And his opponent, being accompanied to the ring by ‘The First Lady of Professional Wrestling’ Miss Elizabeth, he weighed in at 290 lbs.; and he IS the United States Heavyweight Champion, from Robbinsdale, MN, SCOTT ‘Flash’ NORTON!”vs . Steamboat begins the contest cautiously, and tries to play cat and mouse. But Norton is having none of that. He is standing his ground in the center of the ring, enticing Ricky to come right at him. Steamboat is no rookie though, and ducks under and stays behind Norton in the early going. He is unable to wrestle Norton to the ground, but also doesn’t take any direct damage, while making the big man work to escape the hold. Norton gets to the corner and demands the break, and Steamboat gives him a pat on the head! As he back away with a grin. You can see smoke start to fire from Norton’s nostrils as he charges at Ricky, who counters with a drop toe-hold! Steamboat quickly wraps up the legs, and has Norton in an Indian Death Lock! Talk about a great way to neutralize the strength advantage!
Norton gets a clean break when he gets to the ropes this time and takes a stroll to shake out the hammy, as Liz gives him moral support. AND HERE COMES BUFF BAGWELL!!! Who joins his buddy at ringside for a huddle and high fives the big man before Norton gets back into the ring. Norton posts up in the corner where Liz and Bagwell are and tells Steamboat to bring it on. D’amore tells Norton to bring it to the center of the ring, but gets told to “shut the hell up! Come on Dragon!” And Steamboat obliges, charging in with chops and forearms, only to get slung off by Norton. Steamboat dropkicks Norton who crashes into the corner, Steamboat mounts him, and starts hammering away! BUT BAGWELL GRABS RICKY’S FOOT!!! AND D’AMORE SAW IT! Scott D’amore is reading Bagwell the riot act, and finally EJECTS HIM FROM RINGSIDE! Tony, Mauro, and Dusty all agree with the call. Bagwell doesn’t like it, but he heads to the back begrudgingly. Maybe this will be one on one!
The raucous was more than Norton needed as Steamboat had his eyes on Bagwell, he got avalanched from behind by Norton. Now it’s the big man, working at his own pace, very methodical, and “quite scary when Scott Norton is in dominant form” added Mauro. Indeed. Norton is brutally busting Steamboats ribs up with forearm shots and closed fists, before locking the Dragon into a BEAR HUG! “As basic as dat is Tone, Mahro, when you have the strength of a Flash Norton, dat can be a finishing manoovah,” points out the Dream. But the ever-resilient Ricky Steamboat fires back with chops between the eyes of Norton, which staggers the big man but doesn’t break the hold. Finally Steamboat CHOMPS DOWN ACROSS THE NOSE of Norton! And gets his break. Norton is furious as he comes at Steamer, but the Dragon drops down, pulling the top rope down and Norton crashes to the floor, Steamboat slingshots down, but NORTON CATCHES HIM! The champ rams the Dragon back first into the steel ring post and flings him back into the ring under the bottom rope!
Norton has Steamboat in a world of hurt, and is stretching Steamboat in the center of the ring. Norton slides his thumb across his throat, he is setting Steamer up for the POWERBOMB! But Steamboat flips up and over into a sunset flip, 1………2……..NO! Norton rolls through, Steamboat grabs a headlock, and hip tosses Norton back to the mat, he grabs his feet, jackknife cover, 1……….2……..NO! Norton is too strong for that one and gets out. Norton delivers a forearm shiver that rocks Steamboat, and another, and another. Norton has hold of the back of Steamboat’s neck and is repeatedly smashing his face with forearms and elbows! The only thing holding Steamboat up is Norton himself! Norton scoops Steamboat up for a powerslam, but Steamboat holds on, he rolls through 1……….2…………..3!!!! RICKY STEAMBOAT HAS PINNED SCOTT NORTON!!!Norton can’t believe it! Scott Norton is freaking out! He shoves the referee out of the ring and to the floor, and SMASHES STEAMBOAT WITH THE U.S. TITLE! Norton takes Steamboat’s lifeless body, lifts him high in the air, and folds him up like an accordion with the POWERBOMB! Rick Martel, Rey Mysterio, and Billy Kidman along with Head of Security Doug Dillinger and his staff come to ringside and are at a stand-off with Norton who is threatening to “burst Steamboat’s watermelon all over this ring!” Finally Buff Bagwell and The First Lady get in the ring and call off the wolf, and get Norton to retreat without further incident, as medical personal quickly begins to check on the new United States Champion Ricky Steamboat! “Fans what a horrible situation we just witnessed. Ricky Steamboat took a beating, someway, somehow managed to win the match and the title, and that, that…” Mauro doesn’t even know what to say, but Dusty does, “dat sore loosah. It’s one thing to be big and tough, and it’s a whole notha thing to be a bully. Flash Norton showed his true colors right der.” Well said, Dream. Tony says that he can see Ricky Steamboat leaving the arena floor on his own two feet, being assisted, but on his own feet, which is a positive sign. Next up fans, is one that tag team wrestling aficionados have been waiting for, for some time now, Bubba and Anthony against Harlem Heat. “Dat’s right Tone. Couple of weeks ago we got just a bit of taste when these two teams hooked it up, but foul play run amock!” Tony talks over a replay of the Harlem Heat vs. Southern Justice conclusion from the June 24th edition of Monday Nitro that saw Tony Anthony and Stevie Ray knock each other unconscious with Col. Parker’s shoe and Sister Sherri’s purse! This of course leads us to tonight’s big NO DQ Match-Up. Since last Starrcade Harlem Heat has met and exceeded each and every challenge placed in front of them, and have become the new faces of Tag Team wrestling. They might have actually met their kryptonite in the no-nonsense brawlers, “back home in Austin, Tx when the Amewican Dweam was diggin ditches with my daddy, we called em haas’,” of course you did Dream, of course you did. Col. Parker’s men have set their sights on the Harlem Heat and tonight’s encounter should be a barn burner. “David Penzer: take it away!”DP: “The following contest is your SEMI MAIN EVENT OF THE EVENING and is for the UNIFIED WCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD! Randy Anderson is your official in charge, and the match is set for 1 fall, with a 60 Minute time limit and there can be NO DISQUALIFICATION! Introducing first, the challengers. Led to the ring by Col. Robert E. Lee Parker at a total combined weight of 612 lbs. Big Bubba Rogers and Tony Anthony, SOUTHERN JUSTICE! Their opponents and defending champions come to us from Harlem, New York and are accompanied by Sister Sherri. At a total combined weight of 556 lbs., Booker T., Stevie Ray, they are HARLEM HEAT!”There is no love lost in this one as Booker T. and Tony Anthony start this one out hot and heavy. Neither man is able to gain a clear advantage, that is until the wily duo under the tutelage of Col. Parker, seized an opportunity. With Booker T. and Tony Anthony in a criss-cross and, Big Bubba Rogers was able to wallop Book upside the back of the head and he stumbled right into a DDT from Tony Anthony, 1………2………NO! T. barely kicked out, it was so sudden Stevie Ray didn’t even have time to break it up. As he is getting put out of the ring, Anthony and Rogers make the switch, sans tag, and are doing a number on the young champion. As Parker encourages his “stallions” from the corner, the rugged duo is distributing hard justice to one Booker T., and Stevie Ray is unable to keep his emotions in check, which only endangers his brother further. Things are really going Southern Justice’s way; until their first miscommunication allows Booker to dive out of the way causing Bubba to connect with a double axe-handle to the head of his own partner! In that split second of chaos, Booker T. delivered a teeth-chattering Harlem sidekick that sent Bubba up and over the top rope to the floor. The race is on, but Tony Anthony is unknowingly heading to an empty corner, annnnnnnd Booker makes the tag!
Stevie comes in and “lets them big ol’ meat hooks fly,” as Dusty calls the action. Big Brother is certainly cleaning house as he has lariats, sidekicks, and back elbow for both members of Southern Justice. Ray plants Big Bubba with the Ghetto Blaster enziguiri. 1…………2…………NO! Only a near fall for Stevie Ray, who, a bit surprisingly, tags his brother back in. Mauro calls it a mistake, while Dusty calls it habit, in either event, it proved to be just what the Col. ordered as Booker T. missed the Heat Seeking Missile Dropkick off the top rope, and suffered a little rough housing in the wrong corner as Randy Anderson had to put Stevie Ray on the apron once again.
Now the pressure is really on Booker T. to hang on, and Tony Anthony and Big Bubba are letting him have everything they have. Anthony connects with the Bucksnort Blaster (Muscle Buster) for a near fall, and then worked on the champions back some more before tagging in the “closer.” Big Bubba comes in slapping Book around, loudly calling him “boy,” and generally being quite disrespectful. Dusty calls this a bigger mistake than Stevie Ray tagging out before Book was ready awhile ago, and ultimately was right as he lit a fire under Booker T.’s keyster that resulted the young man putting together quite the string of offense and making the tag out to his big brother Stevie Ray! Booker T. nearly collapses in his corner as Stevie goes to work on Bubba, then Anthony, then Bubba, and a standing Harlem sidekick sends Anthony to the floor at the feet of the Col.!
Stevie Ray is pumped up now as he delivers a running powerslam to the monstrous Big Bubba Rogers, 1………..2………NO! Bubba gets the shoulder up. Stevie Ray steps up to the middle rope, he takes the next step up from the inside, DIVING SHOULDER BLOCK! Sends Bubba crashing across the ring and into the far corner. Surely that would have been it if Bubba had fallen in the center of the ring! Stevie Ray goes to drag Bubba back to the middle of the ring, but here comes Tony Anthony with COL. PARKER’S SHOE IN HIS HAND! Sherri hops up on the apron and warns Stevie who turns to catch Tony Anthony just in time! Big right hand levels Anthony, mafia kick to the face causes big Tony to drop the shoe, and HERE COMES BOOKER T. FLYING across the ring! Diving forearm shiver takes he and Anthony to the floor! Stevie checks on his brother who tells him to finish Bubba off, Stevie turns around BOOM! Bubba levels Stevie with Col. Parker’s shoe!!! Ray collapses backwards into the corner, where the turnbuckles hold him up, Bubba crashes into him with an AVALANCHE into the corner, Stevie Ray stumbles out of the corner, BUBBA SIDE SLAM! Rogers hooks the leg, 1…………2…………..3!!! SOUTHERN JUSTICE HAS JUST WON THE UNIFIED TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD!“Beautiful” Bobby Eaton races to ringside to help Bubba with Tony Anthony who took a serious beating from Booker T. at ringside and is bleeding like a stuck pick. Col. Parker has the belts over his shoulder and is high tailing it to the back as Sherri screams at the top of her lungs and Booker T. wonders just what the hell happened as he checks on his fallen brother. Tony, Dusty, and Mauro go over the finish to the tag title match and say that alls fair in love, war, and the quests for titles, “especially when the match is non-DQ.” Dusty says that 7 months on top of the WCW tag team heap is a milestone in itself, but it was only a matter of time that all the wars took their toll on Harlem Heat. They ran into a tough tag team with a great manager and a better plan here tonight, but Tony, Dusty, and Mauro all agree that we haven’t heard the last of Harlem Heat and Southern Justice. “Matter of fact, this might just be the beginning of a legacy defining feud for both teams,” says Mauro. “Well fans; up next we have the big one, for all the marbles. The Heavyweight Championship of the World is on the line, in a match that Lex Luger earned all the way back in February." Nearly 5 months of obstacles, mind-games, and tragedies have prevented Lex Luger from getting his shot to become the World Heavyweight Champion. The ultimate manipulator Curt Hennig played Lex against his best friend Sting, he got in his young protégé’s ear and caused Marcus Bagwell to turn his back on Lex, even taking his longtime manager and confidant, Miss Elizabeth. “That’s right Tony. Tonight will either bring a sense of closure to a difficult chapter in the career of Lex Luger or it could be just another tragedy that has plagued a once promising career,” says Mauro. Tony points out that a long time ago he had a conversation with JJ Dillon about matches where Ric Flair lost the WHC as a member of the Horsemen, and JJ said that each and every time the mood of Flair’s locker room before the match, Flair’s state of mind heading into battle, was always the turning point. “With that in mind Curt Hennig just left a locker room where Scott Norton, as I understand it, has been raising cane non-stop since losing the United States Championship.” Mauro says that Vice President Magnum T.A. just sent word that even more bad news has befallen the champ’s locker room as Scott Norton was fined “$10,000” for putting his hands on a WCW official. Hennig’s frame of mind has to be questioned heading into this match. Dusty says that he appreciates JJ’s comments and the opinion of his broadcast partners, but he believes “in my bones” that Curt Hennig has a masterplan, and that even if Scott Norton is a loose cannon, he has Miss Elizabeth and Buff Bagwell in his back pocket. Lex Luger’s one regular ally as of late, Ricky Steamboat, might very well be on his way to a hospital after the post-match beating he sustained at the hands of Norton. With all the momentum behind Luger, Dusty says that he feels the Champion will have a counter. “But Hennig might not have enough of a counter Tone, Mahro, cause the biggest question heading into the main event is, where is Sting, and what is his frame of mind?” Well said, Dream, well said. Dave Penzer: “Ladies and gentlemen this is YOUR MAIN EVENT of the evening, and is scheduled for 1 fall with a 60 minute time limit. Senior Official Nick Patrick will be in charge of the action. Introducing first; the challenger. He is the #1 Contender and he weighed in at 275 lbs.; he hails from the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois, he is ‘The Total Package’ LEX LUUUUGERRR! And now, the WORLD’S HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. Being accompanied to the ring by ‘The First Lady of Professional Wrestling’ Miss Elizabeth, he weighed in at 245 lbs. and hails from Robbinsdale, MN. He is the self-proclaimed, only perfect champion in WCW HISTORY. He is CURT HENNIGGGG!”vs Hennig keeps Liz up on the apron after the bell rings and is rubbing salt into Luger’s deep wounds. Lex knows the game though and is refusing to get suckered into the corner to start things off. Hennig stretches on the ropes, takes a stroll around the ring, goes to lock up fingers with Luger, and backs away. He lets out a mighty, “WOOOO” and a hearty laugh, obviously trying to play mind games with the Total Package. Just as it seems to be working in his advantage, Luger nails Hennig with a running shoulder block, and another, and a third drops the champ again. Big elbow smash from Luger who hops right up, and says he is going for THE TORTURE RACK! He comes up behind Hennig, who was obviously well prepared as he skeedadled the moment he felt Luger on his back! “A perfect plan almost blew up in the champion’s face right there,” observes Schiavone. As Hennig resets the pace by arguing with a “ham and egger” at ringside, Lex has all he can stand, comes over and grabs a double handful of Hennig’s hair, lifting him up onto the apron. What power shown by the challenger! But Curt manages to grab the back of Luger’s neck; and violently hotshot him down across the top rope. What smarts shown by the champion!
Now the heavyweight champion of the entire world is showing why he has had such a dominating run in WCW over the last year. Dismantling his larger opponent, executing wrestling moves with precision and force; “flawlessly one might say,” offers Mauro. Indeed. Hennig is taking Luger apart; he starts his offense on the surgically repaired right forearm of the challenger. The bionic forearm has been a big part of Lex’s offense in recent years and the Champ has it well scouted. Curt has Lex down, bends his right arm and tucks his wrist behind his ear on the mat, and stomps down on the point of the elbow! Lex flops around in excruciating pain as Hennig dives in and relentlessly tries to tear his shoulder out of its socket, or the elbow out of its joint. Hennig goes deep into his bag of tricks and pulls out a FUJIWARA armbar! No way had Luger prepared for that one! Curt is wrenching, and wrenching, and driving with all his might, but Luger just won’t give it up. Hennig lets go of the armbar, but keeps control of the wrist and starts blasting knees into the back of Luger’s shoulder blade while maintaining a top wrist lock on the downed Luger! Nick Patrick tells Luger that all he has to do is give him the word, but Lex won’t say. A burst of energy enables Luger to backdrop Hennig off his arm, and over the top rope. Patrick rules it to be incidental and the match continues. Luger shakes his arm out, but goes after Hennig anyway. Tony sees this as a major mistake, and is proven true as Luger misses a clothesline and crashes into the ring post. Hennig rolls back into the ring, encouraging Nick Patrick to speed up his count, but Lex is barely able to make it back inside before the count of ten, much to the chagrin of Hennig. But there is no rest for the weary and Hennig goes right back after Luger’s injured arm.
Lex powers out of a hammerlock and gorilla presses Curt Hennig high into the air! But his arm gives out and Hennig comes crashing down hard on top of Luger, 1…………2…….NO! Hennig is feeling confident now as he cinches Lex up for the Fisherman’s Suplex, but Lex blocks it! The heavyweight champion cinches up again, and the challenger once again blocks it! Luger delivers a delayed vertical suplex! Lex’s right arm is just kind of dangling beside him, but he opens up all the offense he can muster with his left arm; clotheslines, back elbows, big right hands, and Luger is still able to deliver a power slam with his one good arm! 1…….2………..NO! The champion kicks out. Lex goes for the Torture Rack, but he can’t hold Hennig’s weight! What a genius plan from the world champion. What’s this? Lex is dusting one off here, ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT PILEDRIVER! He hit it! 1……….2…………3! NO! Hennig barely gets his shoulder off the canvas. Lex is really cooking now, the adrenaline is pumping, and the crowd is behind him, he is motioning for the Human Torture Rack once again, can he do it? OH NO! HERE COMES BUFF BAGWELL!!! Lex doesn’t see him, but Nick Patrick does and is trying to wave him off. The Baltimore Arena suddenly erupts, Dusty can’t believe the reaction, “guys da roof just came off this building!”IT’S STING! HE HAS DESCENDED FROM THE RAFTERS!!! Sting is pointing his bat at Bagwell who looks like a lost puppy in the aisleway, Sting turns to Nick Patrick and points his bat to the center of the ring! Luger hoists Hennig, he got him up, and he holds him! HUMAN TORTURE RACK!! Sting is patrolling the ringside area as Buff comes at him, and then Norton comes running, both sent off with bat shots. Will Hennig submit?!?? HE DOES!!! DP: “Ladies and Gentlemen, the winner, annnnnnnnd NEWWWWWWWW WCW Heavyweight Champion of the World, THE TOTAL PACKAGE LEX LUGER!!!. . . . . . . . . .

Tony Anthony is being stitched up by WCW medical personnel while his partner Big Bubba and “Beautiful” Bobby checks him out. Col. Robert E. Lee Parker has the Unified World Tag Team Titles draped over each shoulder, his victory “see-gar” is lit, and he says that he told us all! He told us all that Southern Justice was the best tag team in the World and that the Harlem Heat’s days as champions were numbered. His mustangs were firing on all cylinders, and not even Tony’s “little scratch” could impede their destiny. The Col. assures us that anyone who thinks they want to come at The Stud Stable would have hell to pay! A furious Big Bubba Rogers gets right up into the camera and intensely states that Southern Justice and Bobby Eaton’s brand of justice will be handed out to all these “punks” in WCW and that “hard time” will be the sentence for anyone who gets in their way! Tony and Dusty discuss Southern Justice’s emergence on the tag team scene and title victory last night before sending us to our main event, taped just prior to them winning the tag team titles! Parker’s Stud Stable, “Beautiful” Bobby and the Unified Tag Team Champions of the World Southern Justice defeated The Aloha Boys and “The Godfather” Samu by pinfall after “Beautiful” Bobby hit the Alabama Jam on Iaukea.RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’S BOMBTRACK opens the broadcast as the camera pans across a raucous Richmond Coliseum.Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes, and Terry Taylor welcomes us to a special World Championship edition of Monday Nitro as the Heavyweight Champion of the World Lex Luger prepares to make his first title defense against the former Champion Curt Hennig, in a rare televised defense. The guys discuss everything that has gone on between Luger and Hennig in 1996 and Luger’s emotional victory just 8 days ago. Taylor wonders how the emotional high of overcoming so much to become Champion will effect Luger in this title defense, the Taylor Made Man says that Lex Luger has never been one to handle success well, “we all remember his first World Title reign in ’91-’92.” Tony says that is a great point, and that he saw Curt Hennig earlier this afternoon and has never seen the former champion so determined. Dusty says that nobody knows how hard it is to hold onto the World Title more than he does, and that after speaking with Lex earlier today he thinks that Luger might be in a great spot mentally, but when facing an opponent the caliber of Curt Hennig, “the right fwame ‘a mind might not be enough guys…”Dave Penzer: “The following contest is scheduled for 1 fall with television time remaining, WCW senior official Nick Patrick is your referee in charge, and it is for the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD! Making his way down the aisle is the NEW CHAMPION, he weighed in at 275 lbs. and hails from the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois, he is the ‘Total Package’ LEX LUGER!” Lex comes out with the title strapped around his waist and soaks in the reaction as he high fives the ringside fans…. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . The challenger has had his introduction and Luger and Hennig are standing nose to nose in the center of the ring, Luger is staring intensely as Hennig is chirping away. Nick Patrick calls for the bell… Luger and Hennig lock up aggressively; Curt takes a side headlock and establishes control early in the contest. Hennig is out wrestling Luger, and trying to get under his skin while doing so. Finally Luger has had enough of the aggravating tactics of Hennig and grabs a double handful of throat as he backs the former champion into the corner! The referee issues a stern warning to Luger as he backs him out of the corner and Curt rolls to the floor. The Total Package blows past Nick Patrick and is on Hennig’s trail. Curt rounds the corner ahead of Luger; he stops suddenly, and dropkicks the ring steps into the oncoming Luger! Curt is ultra proud of himself as he rolls an ailing Luger back into the ring. Now the former champion is at his best. He has his opponent in trouble and is putting the pressure on. Curt lights up Luger’s chest with numerous chops, and lets out a WOOOOOOOOO and a smile; Hennig even struts across the ring. Terry and Dusty say that Curt Hennig is in the zone, and Lex looks to be in all kinds of trouble. Curt hits Luger with a Backdrop Driver, he hooks the leg, 1………2………..NO! Curt grabs a Sleeper and has Luger’s neck crimped. Lex’s arm drops once, it drops twice, he catches it before it drops the third time and starts burying elbows into the midsection of Hennig. Luger whips Curt into the ropes and turns him inside out with a clothesline! 1………2……….NO! The champion fires Hennig into the ropes again, Lex charges, BIONIC FOREARM connect! The force sends Hennig bouncing across the ring, Luger dives in for the cover, but Hennig is in the ropes. What an unlucky break.Lex pulls Curt up and out to the center of the ring, he calls for the Attitude Adjustment piledriver, but Hennig backdrops out of it and catches Luger with a perfect dropkick on his way up. Curt takes a moment to regroup in the corner, and UNTIES THE TURNBUCKLE PAD! Nick Patrick sees what is going on, but just a little too late, and has to retie the pad. While this is going on Curt pokes Luger in the eye, dumps him to the floor, and unties the turnbuckle pad in the opposite corner, Patrick has no clue! Hennig goes to the floor and tries to whip Luger into the steel ring post, but gets reversed and sent hard into the guard rail. Lex rolls back into the ring, and Patrick’s count is on! Curt just barely beats the count back into the ring, but all the momentum is behind the champion! Delayed standing vertical suplex from Luger plants Hennig. Lex gives him no time to breath as he hoists him up and over his head GORILLA PRESS SLAM! 1……….2………NO! Curt gets the shoulder up! Lex doesn’t want to get frustrated but you can see it taking him over. He lifts Curt up once again, and this time he hits it! ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT! 1………2………..3 NO! Curt kicks out again.Lex can’t believe it! As he questions Nick Patrick, Curt drags himself into the corner and up to his feet. Lex charges, running clothesline into the corner! He sets Hennig up on the top rope, he cinches him up tight, SUPERPLEX! But Hennig reverses in mid-air and comes crashing down on top of Luger! He hooks the leg, 1……..2…………NO! Hennig is all over Luger now; lefts and rights and chops. He Irish-whips Luger, but gets reversed, Hennig just stops himself before crashing into the exposed steel, here comes Luger. Hennig ducks out of the way, and LUGER CRASHES FACE FIRST INTO THE EXPOSED STEEL! Hennig catches him before he falls to the mat, and perfectly executes his Fisherman Suplex, 1……..2…………3!!! Curt Hennig has recaptured the Heavyweight Championship of the World!. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . We return to a replay of the conclusion of the match. Mauro Ranallo is standing by with the New Champ and as Curt catches his breath he wants to let everyone know that they are very welcome. Curt Hennig just prevented them from enduring an embarrassment of a title reign, and once again the fans have a champion they can respect, one who will win on his own merit, unlike Luger who needed the help of Sting to defeat him at the Great American Bash. “Your perfect champion has returned to the mountain top, and there isn’t anyone in World Championship Wrestling who can stop me.”Tony and Dusty really feel for Luger who has had a tumultuous year to say the least. The Taylor made man on the other hand loves it, and can only “imagine the embarrassment Luger is feeling right now!” Tony says that Terry should be ashamed of himself, taking pleasure in the misery of others like that. “Fans, the Dream and I will be joining you from the WTBS Studios in Atlanta again next week, but as I understand it, we have time for one more match, so let’s send it to Dave Penzer!”Kevin Sullivan and Hugh Morrus defeat Big Nasty and Dave Sullivan by pinfall after Morrus hits the No Laughing Matter moonsault on Dave and then Kevin delivered his double stomp to the mid-section of his brother. This was a wild brawl that saw Big Nasty and Dave take the fight to Kevin and Hugh, but in the end the Dungeon of Doom had too much for the duo.

The July 22nd edition of Monday Nitro opens up with Tony Schiavone and The American Dream Dusty Rhodes again in the WTBS Studios. This week they are joined by the brand-new Heavyweight Champion of the World Curt Hennig! Curt is all smiles and discusses the embarrassment that he saved the Heavyweight Championship of the World by regaining her last week. You’d think people like Tony and Dusty would be a little more appreciative. Your “ab-so-freakin-lutely Perfect champion” has had the kind of year that most so-called legends only dream about. Other than the 8 day Luger reign Curt Hennig has been a fighting champion July 15th, 1995. He has defended the title proudly against the best ever since. Duthtay says he can’t stand much more of this, and that Tony need to “gone ahead and bring our first guest on out here, before our perfect champion uses up all the oxygen in da room…”WCW Vice President Magnum T.A.Magnum joins the guys and says that this summer has certainly been one for the record books here in WCW, and that we plan on keeping that momentum rolling right through August. Maggie says that he, JJ, and the championship committee have been hard at work putting together a Clash of Champions and while opponents are still TBA, it is official that Southern Justice will be defending the Unified Tag Team Championship of the World, and also our World Television Champion Diamond Dallas Page will defend his title once again. “Fans don’t forget about all of the contests being held on the WCW Hotline, 1-900-909-9900,” don’t miss out on your chance to be one of 1000 guests attending Clash of the Champions: Fan Appreciation on WCW’s dime! Tony and Dusty discuss the major announcement while Curt seems unimpressed. After the break we will have “new to TBS” WCW action taped this past week, plus more live guests in the WTBS Studios, including a MAJOR announcement from Harlem Heat and Sister Sherri! “Don’t you dare go away!”. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . Dem Aloha Boys, Iaukea and Rosey, along with their “Godfather” Samu won a hotly contested 6-man match up against Latinos Toros; “El Matador” Ricky Santana, David Sierra, and Hercules Ayala. The end saw Iaukea and Rosey hit dueling Superly Splashes on Sierra and Ayala while Samu hit the Super Samoan (Death Valley) Driver Santana, and a trifecta of pinfalls…Buff Bagwell and Scott ‘Flash’ Norton w/”The First Lady of Professional Wrestling” Miss Elizabeth defeated Special Operations, Todd Champion and Curtis Thompson, by pinfall after Norton folded Thompson up like an accordion with the Powerbomb…Back in the studio Curt Hennig was impressed with his buddies, and discussed how unfair the fine levied against Scott after the Great American Bash was, but that’s ok, “we are used to typical WCW behavior at this point.” Tony then begins to welcome their next guests into the studio, Curt says, “ya know, these boys have serious potential, I see a lot of me in Lionheart,” you would Curt, you would. Chris Jericho and The Highlight Express, Christian Cage and Lenny Lane, come out and each shake the hand of Curt Hennig and are talking with him as Tony tries to ask a question and gets ignored. “I’m sorry were you trying to say something junior?” Lenny and Christian get a good chuckle out of their leader’s wise crack and they insist that Chris will only be interviewed by the World Heavyweight Champion! Finally Jericho gets down to business and says that while the Great American Bash might not have gone according to plan, Lionheart and the Highlight Express are still in the driver seat of their own careers and will not be dictated to. Not by JJ Dillon, not by Magnum T.A., not by anyone. Jericho addresses the WCW Generation NeXt champion Lance Storm, and discusses their history. At one time Chris Jericho and Lance Storm, The Thrillseekers, were the best young tag team in all of wrestling. “All of which was thanks to me!” Sure Lance could wrestle, but he has never been too bright, and he needed Chris a “helluva lot more” than Chris needed him. “I can totally see why Hugh Morrus dumped him!” And that with his guidance and their vigor, it would not be long before either Christian or Lenny were wearing the GenX championship. Tony attempts to ask Jericho about DDP and the World Television Championship but gets ignored and sends it to our next match-up. The Highlight Express defeated High Voltage by pinfall after Christian hit an inverted DDT on Kaos, and tagged in his besty Lenny who hit the Highlight of the Night Split-legged moonsault to pick up the 1…..2…….3…. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . Rey Mysterio, Jr. defeated WCW newcomer Ace Steel by pinfall after hitting the youngster with the Tornado DDT out of corner…Jerry Sags of the Nasty Boys with Brian Knobbs at ringside defeated The Barbarian w/Kevin Sullivan after a hard-hitting contest. Sullivan seemed frustrated with Barbarian during the contest, and then after a mis-communication led to the end, Sullivan berated the Tongan veteran like he was scolding his child. Barbie finally had enough and GRABBED SULLIVAN BY THE THROAT! Only to have Hugh Morrus attack him from behind. Finally his longtime partner Meng hopped in the ring and Morrus and Sullivan’s attack stopped. As Mauro and The Taylor Made Man wondered if we were seeing the blow-up of the Dungeon of Doom, Meng dropped the Barbarian with the Tongan Spike, busting him wide open and then placing the Tongan Death Grip on his former partner until Barbarian passed out!Tony, Dusty, and Curt are joined by Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan in the studio and he says that the Barbarian had become the weak line and a source of discontent in the Dungeon, and that was something that could not be tolerated. Sullivan says that the D.o.D. have been preoccupied as of late, and have forgotten, “our purpose.” Now that David, Big Nasty, and the Barbarian are out of their way, it’s back to business for the Dungeon of Doom! Mauro Ranallo is in a locker room with Harlem Heat and Sister Sherri, shortly after a match, and Booker T. and Stevie Ray are hurting, “we’re tired man.” Night in and night out Harlem Heat has been taking on the best and “leaving these fools rubbin the knots on they head,” and laying claim to being the best tag team in the World. Sister Sherri knows exactly what her boys need, they need to return to their roots. Booker says that it’s been too long since they’ve been home, too far removed from the magic that made them great in the first place. But that when they return, there will be hell to pay, “now can you dig that, sucka?”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . MONDAY NITRO 7/29 RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE’S BOMBTRACK opens up the broadcast as the camera pans across a raucous Target Center in beautiful Minneapolis, MN! Welcome wrestling fans, WCW Monday Nitro is back to its regular time and on the air! Tony Schiavone, The American Dream Dusty Rhodes, and The Taylor Made Man welcome everyone and hopefully everyone enjoyed WTBS special “Behind the Atlanta Games” documentary as much as they did, but that it is great to finally be bringing you the best in professional wrestling once again! We just a little over two weeks away from the special Fans Appreciation Clash of the Champions coming to you from Cincinnati, OH, and as mentioned last week, the World Television and Unified World Tag Team championships will be defended on that broadcast, not to mention several more big matches to be announced shortly. “We have a huge night in store for you fans, so without further adieu, David Penzer take it away!”DP: “The opening bout on Nitro is scheduled for one fall. Scott D’amore is your official in charge. Introducing first, weighing in at 241 lbs., he hails from Blackpool, England, DAVID TAYLOR! And his opponent is from Denver, Colorado and he weighs in at 234 lbs. this is SCORPIO!”Scorpio makes his return to WCW television a successful one as he was able to defeat Dave Taylor by pinfall after connecting with the Primetime 450 Splash after an outstanding back and forth encounter.. . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . David Penzer: “The following contest is six man action and scheduled for one fall, Randy Anderson is your official in charge. Introducing first, hailing from the Home of the Brave, Todd Champion, Curtis Thompson, and The Ranger, SPECIAL OPERATIONS! And their opponents, Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan, Hugh Morrus, and Meng, THE DUNGEON OF DOOM!”Champion, Thompson, and The Ranger put up quite the fight, but could not withstand the chaos that was unleashed from Morrus, Meng, and Sullivan. The Dungeon appears more focused and united than ever before, which makes them dangerous. Morrus hit the No Laughing Matter on the Ranger which allowed him to tag in Meng whose Tongan Spike had the masked man SPITTING BLOOD leaving Randy Anderson no choice but to call this one off!Mauro Ranallo catches up with the Dungeon following their contest, and Sullivan says that after trimming the fat a last week he and his boys are now ready to run roughshod over the WCW roster, and he hopes the Nasty Boys try to stop them, as it would make the end of the line for them! David Penzer: “Your next contest on Nitro is scheduled for one fall and WCW Senior Official Nick Patrick is your referee. Introducing first from the United Kingdom, weighing in at 221 lbs., he is accompanied to the ring by Dave Taylor, he is UNION JACK! And his opponent is from Long Island, New York, he weighs in at 229 lbs. and is the former WCW World Television Champion, CHRIS JER-I-CHO!"Jericho looked outstanding against his masked counterpart, able to dictate the pace early and overcome the speedy offense of Jack, but in the end Jericho was too much for the Generation NeXt upstart, even with Taylor at ringside. Jericho hit the Lionsault in-ring moonsault, setting up the Liontamer high-angle modified Boston Crab submission victory. . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . DP: “In the ring to my left from the depths, he weighed in at 218 lbs. and is a member of La Familia Nacido de Llamas, EL DIABLO! And making his way to the ring now he weighed in at 228 lbs. and is from Calgary. Alberta. Canada. He is the WCW Generation NeXt Champion, LANCE STORM”Lance and Diablo go at it tooth and nail in a fast paced match up. Storm’s grappling is the difference maker in the contest and the Corkscrew Brainbuster was the finisher. After the contest THE HIGHLIGHT EXPRESS hit the ring and put a whooping on the champion, all under the watchful eye of Chris Jericho who took a seat on the top turnbuckle directing traffic. As Christian climbed to the top, preparing to put a stamp on the situation, RICK MARTEL came to the rescue! He shoved Jericho from his seat, shaking the top rope hard enough that Cage crotched himself! Martel then took the fight to Lane who was holding Storm inside the ring, delivering a beautiful dropkick and followed it up with a clothesline sending Lenny up and over the top rope! Doug Dillinger and the WCW super security squad kept things from breaking down any further… DP: “In the ring at this time, now residing in Halifax, Nova Scotia; weighing in at 237 lbs. RICK MARTEL! His opponent, 221 lbs. from the Twain Riverboat, The Gambler…”Martel’s attention was elsewhere giving the opportunistic Gambler a chance to sneak in and deliver some strikes and take a headlock, but Martel regrouped and had an impressive showing finishing the Gambler with a leaping knee strike from the 2nd rope on the inside…Mauro Ranallo was joined by Rey Mysterio, Jr. and his buddy Billy Kidman. Rey says that he and Psychosis have a long history, and Psy knew that if he wanted a fight that he would get it, anytime. But Psychosis finally snapped, and that it seems as if La Familia wants to end not only Rey’s career, but his friends as well. And that is not something that Rey or Kidman will put up with. The entire Famila Nacido de Llamas, Psychosis, La Parka, El Diablo, and Gran Akuma come on screen and begin a Spanish screaming match with Mysterio. Doug Dillinger and the super security squad keep things from erupting, but not before Billy Kidman makes a challenge to Psychosis for a match next week, and it appears as though Psychosis agreed though one can never be exactly sure… . . . . . Commercial Break . . . . . Mauro Ranallo is joined by the World Television Champion Diamond Dallas Page and the Diamond Doll Kimberly. Page reiterates what being TV Champ means to him. He was told by everybody, “you’re too old to be tryna’ move into the ring” or “Page you’re just a managah,’” while Page ain’t the type to say I told you so, he will give himself a HIGH FIVE for the accomplishment. The same drive that pushed DDP to make it, is the same drive that won’t be satisfied until DDP is the greatest WCW TV Champion of all times. So bring on “whoevah” you want to, they all end the same way, BANG!Dave Penzer: “Weighing in this evening at 232 lbs. from Huntsville, Alabama; he is accompanied to the ring by Col. Robert Parker ‘BEAUTIFUL’ BOBBY! His opponent is from the Windy City; Chicago, Illinois and he weighed in at 275 lbs. The Total Package LEX LUGER!”In Lex’s first match since losing the World Heavyweight Championship back to Curt Hennig he drew the short straw and got the veteran quiet man from Huntsville who pitied him not. Eaton really took it too Luger, but the Package was on a mission tonight and withstood Bobby’s best shots before turning things around with the Bionic Forearm and finished his opponent off with the Human Torture Rack.Mauro is with the World Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig, Scott ‘Flash’ Norton, Buff Bagwell, and First Lady Miss Elizabeth. Curt says that he wants to take a moment and think about the historical significance of his run atop World Championship Wrestling. “I mean seriously, how perfect has this last year been, huh?” There was one hiccup on the way and it was from a desperate man with tons of help whom was vanquished but 8 days later. Curt Hennig says that he is the most dominant champion in the long history of the Heavyweight Championship of the World. More so than “Lou Thesz, Jack Brisco, Terry Funk, or Harley Race. Damn sure more impressive that anything that so-called ‘American Dream’ ever did with the title, and way, I MEAN WAYYYY” more commanding run than that “washed up, has-been” he ran out of WCW awhile back! HAHAHA “WOOOOO!”Buff Bagwell bursts out laughing, and says, “guys, guys, you know what’s even funnier than that? We are the most dominant group in the history of WCW and our 4th MEMBER” as Bagwell holds the symbol of excellence up, “SHE’S A WOMAN!” Hahahaha. The group is really yucking it up when… WCW President and ORIGINAL HORSEMEN James J. Dillon comes out and says, “Seriously, Curt, what are you doing?” JJ goes on to say that he brought Curt in here because one World Heavyweight Champion got the kind of attitude Curt is displaying right now, and was running rampant. Hennig says that he is just telling it like it is, that’s all. Well not only does JJ personally take exception to the remarks made by Bagwell and Hennig, he has some remarks he’d like to share with them right now. A certain former World Heavyweight Champion came to his office today, and for the first time in months spoke to JJ, and that former champion believes that “the time is right for him to return to a WCW ring!” Hennig slaps the microphone down, but can still barely be heard saying to JJ, “he can’t come here, he is their champ!” Dillon grabs Ranallo’s arm and apologizes for the actions of the champion and says, “no Curt you’re right HE can’t be here, but,” that is not the former champion that will be returning to a WCW ring for the first time in months next week. Nitro’s main event live from Assembly Hall in Bloomington, IN will be CURT HENNIG AND SCOTT NORTON teaming up to face… STING AND U.S. Heavyweight Champion RICKY 'THE DRAGON' STEAMBOAT!
