EXTREME WARFARE ON MTV
FEBRUARY 3, 1996
(TAPED 1/29/1996)
OLYMPIC AUDITORIUM
LOS ANGELES, CA
AIRING ON: MTV
BROADCASTERS: JOEY STYLES & PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY
RING ANNOUNCER: BOB ARTESE
INTERVIEWER: MALIA HOSAKA
- JOEY STYLES and PAUL E. DANGEROUSLY open the show this week in the ring and run down tonight’s huge card featuring: Keiji Mutoh making his Xtreme Pro Wrestling debut against the Mexican star Heavy Metal, Val Venis facing off with “Dangerous” Dan Spivey and our main event pitting Sabu against The Fighting Irishman Dave “Fit” Finlay. Joey also announces that Taz is here – even after causing a disturbance in the last two episodes of Extreme Warfare. Paul E. Dangerously says his patience is running out when it comes to Taz and he knows Terry Funk feels the same way. Dangerously then moves on to announce that he and Mr. Funk have signed a major superstar to an exclusive contact to an Xtreme Pro Wrestling contract. He will announce that signing later in this very show! However, we start out tonight with a team match that pits two teams that really don’t endear themselves to the Xtreme Pro Wrestling fans.
Tag Team Match:
Mexico’s Most Wanted vs. Stevie Richards & The Blue Meanie
'Living After Midnight' by Judas Priest plays as Damien 666 and Halloween make their way down to the ring. Stevie Richards and the Meanie are out next, with Xtreme Heavyweight Champion Raven nowhere in sight. Stevie and Meanie are playing to the crowd with their annoying antics, when music begins to play over the public address system once again here in the Olympic Auditorium.
Bill Alfonso blows that annoying whistle as he leads The Human Suplex Machine Taz down to the ring! Taz interrupted last week, when he Taz Plexed Shiryu right out of Xtreme Pro Wrestling! Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie want none of this so they immediately clear the ring and leave through the crowd. Taz steps into the ring as Paul E. Dangerously is throwing a fit in the broadcast area. Taz motions for Damien 666 and Halloween to bring it on – so they comply!
Mexico’s Most Wanted double-team Taz and get some offense in, but soon he knees Damien in the gut. Taz then decks Halloween and drills him with a brutal T-bone Taz Plex! Damien is doubled over still and then leads Taz to plant him with a throw-away pumphandle Taz Plex! Taz has just cleared the ring of a very capable tag team. He then gets on the microphone and says he is not leaving this ring until either Paul E. Dangerously or Terry Funk give a match with Dan “The Beast” Severn!
Winners: No Contest
*The Human Suplex Machine Taz is holding this show hostage once again as he threatens to choke out Paul E. Dangerously. Finally, Xtreme Pro Wrestling commissioner Terry Funk makes his way down to the ring with security. Funk tells the security to stand outside the ring as he steps in with a microphone of his own. Terry tells Taz he got the message last week when The Human Suplex Machine attacked his protégé Mikey Whipwreck. Funk assures the fans that Mikey will be ready to face Louie Spicolli at CyberSlam ’96, but he has some bumps and bruises. Funk says he knows now that Taz wants to call his own shots around here – he gets that now. Taz answers that it seems like somebody finally has some intelligence here and barks at Funk to keep talking.
Terry Funk barks at Taz to let him finish what he was trying to say – which Taz doesn’t like very much. Funk knows that Taz wants a title shot and he wants a match with Dan Severn, the UFC champion. Terry is here to tell Taz… that he’s not getting either of those things! Taz is incensed as Funk rants that nobody will get what they want on his watch by cheap-shotting other wrestlers, committing backstage attacks and holding up the television show. Funk has a message for Taz – prove himself in the ring and maybe he will get what he wants. If Taz doesn’t like that or can’t do it – well, he is free to get the hell out of Xtreme Pro Wrestling right here tonight in Los Angeles!
Taz stands listening and finally holds up his arms and nods – indicating that he stands! Funk tells Taz to get the hell out of his ring right now. The Human Suplex Machine stands firm for a second and then goes to leave. Terry Funk then goes to make another announcement – but Taz comes behind, hooks Funk and belly-to-back Taz Plexes him! Taz just attacked Xtreme Pro Wrestling’s commissioner Terry Funk! Taz now locks in the Taz Mission! Paul E. Dangerously is frantic as he orders the security to hit the ring, but they cannot pull Taz off Funk! They finally manage to pull Taz after over a minute. Funk is unconscious on the canvas as Taz is dragged away by security. Paul E. Dangerously and medics tend to Terry Funk, who is not moving as we go to this commercial break!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
-Joey Styles is narrating alone as we come back to footage of Terry Funk being loaded into an ambulance. Paul E. Dangerously rides with Funk as he is driven out of the Olympic Arena in an ambulance. We go back to the arena where Joey Styles says somberly directly to the camera that somebody has to do something about Taz or he will destroy Xtreme Pro Wrestling from the inside out. Joey then announces that Hayabusa suffered an injury last week and will not be able to compete against Val Venis at CyberSlam on February 17. Styles confirms that a “mystery opponent” has been chosen to replace Hayabusa in his match against Venis on the internet PPV. He then sends us up to the ring to see the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Keiji Mutoh in action.
Singles Match: Non Title:
IWGP Heavyweight Champion Keiji Mutoh vs. Heavy Metal
Joey Styles reminds fans that Keiji Mutoh will be challenging International Heavyweight Champion Masa Chono at CyberSlam ’96. Only Chono’s title will be on the line in that match and the bout will be officiated by Dan “The Beast” Severn. Mutoh is out in his Space Lone Wolf attire and tonight he is going up against the very capable luchador Heavy Metal, a former Mexican National Welterweight Champion. Mutoh and Heavy Metal lock up, with the Mexican star getting in some shots early and scoring a near fall with a stomach-breaker.
Mutoh takes over when Heavy Metal misses a dropkick into the corner. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion lands a brutal kick to the side of Heavy Metal’s head and then connects with a huracanrana. Mutoh covers, but only gets the two count. Keiji is right back on heavy metal with a snap suplex and then a knee breaker. He holds onto the leg and applies the signature Muta Lock. Heavy Metal struggles, but he is in the center of the ring and has no choice but to tap. Keiji Mutoh motions that he is coming for Chono’s title after the bell.
Winner: Keiji Mutoh
- Val Venis and his manager Woman are once again interviewed by Malia Hosaka. Venis cockily tells Malia that he has no concerns about his mystery opponent for CyberSlam ’96. Woman smiles as she says there’s no man in Xtreme Pro Wrestling who can top Venis because stands all alone on the mountain of masculinity. Woman jokes that she used to be with a smelly old drunk – a man who is just like most of the fans – and now she is with the one man who can put all others to shame. And at CyberSlam ’96, Venis WILL put his opponent to shame. Venis and Woman share a lip-lock as we once again get a shot at the blonde woman in the front holding up her “MONEY SHOT ME VAL” sign as she stares seductively into the camera.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
- The #1 contender to the Xtreme Heavyweight Title – Ron Simmons – is standing by with Malia Hosaka. Simmons talks about how it’s all on the line for once again at CyberSlam ’96. He not only will be receiving his last-ever opportunity to be Xtreme Heavyweight Champion, but also will face leaving Xtreme Pro Wrestling he loses. Simmons says that as far as he is concerned, winning cannot be an option. Ron knows Raven will bend every rule. He knows Raven will try to get his minions to interfere. But at the end of the day, it won’t be enough. Raven couldn’t get the job done last week with all the help in the world and he won’t get it done on February 17. Ron ends by saying he will be playing Raven’s Rules at CyberSlam ’96, but nothing in those rules will stop him from whooping Raven’s ass from one side of Expo Hall to the other. Ron Simmons is going home to Florida to fulfill his destiny of becoming World Champion once again!
Singles Match:
Dan Spivey vs. Val Venis (w/ Woman)
The Big Valbowski and Woman are out first. Venis is all smiles until ‘China White’ by The Scorpions plays, ushering in the arrival of ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey. Spivey has a big match of his own at CyberSlam ’96 as he faces ‘The Wrestling Machine’ Gary Albright in a battle of the bullies. Spivey is intimidating as ever as he stares into the camera with those ‘crazy eyes’ of his. Spivey dominates Venis with his power early on as he slams and suplexes Val around the ring. Venis makes a comeback with a shot to the stomach and he is even able to get Spivey to the canvas with a gutwrench suplex.
Val then climbs to the top rope and motions for the Money Shot as his front row fan goes nuts. Woman doesn’t like it one bit as she sees Val gyrating while looking in the woman’s direction. Suddenly about ten seconds of a VERY FAMOUS heavy metal plays over the PA system, before cutting off. Venis looks confused, but quickly readjusts and leaps off the top rope… but all that extra time allowed Spivey to roll away! Woman is furious as Venis slowly gets back to his feet, only to get drilled with the Spivey Spike (Implant DDT)! Dangerous Dan makes the cover and he gets the three count! Woman stews outside the ring as Dan Spivey gets a big win heading into CyberSlam ’96.
Winner: Dan Spivey
* Joey Styles takes a call at ringside from Paul E. Dangerously, who updates the audience that Funk is just banged up and may have to take a few weeks off. He then issues a warning to Taz that he better think long and hard about his future – because he won’t have one if he ever tries anything like this again. Paul then goes on to make his promised announcement that Finnish heavyweight champion Tony Halme will be making his debut at CyberSlam. Joey puts over Halme’s time in All-Japan where he had hard-hitting bouts against Steve Williams and Scott Norton. Styles says this has been one major announcement, but Dangerously cuts him off. Paul E. says that’s only half – because the man he signed to face Halme is one of the biggest and baddest superstars on the US wrestling scene. Paul sends us to a VRT of Halme’s opponent and the newest Xtreme Pro Wrestling superstar – “The Beast from the East” Bam Bam Bigelow:
BAM BAM BIGELOW IS COMING TO CYBERSLAM '96!!!
COMMERCIAL BREAK
- Let’s take a look at ‘The Wrestling Machine’ Gary Albright – who faces ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey at CyberSlam ’96:
Tag Team Match:
The Hit Squad vs. Super Tiger & Black Dragon
Togo and Teioh face a tough challenge for their match against Xtreme Tag Team Champions The Bad Breed at CyberSlam ’96, but first they have to get through Super Tiger and Black Dragon. Super Tiger and Dragon have words before the main – viewers saw these two last week have trouble in their bout. These two teams trade the momentum early on, but the real attention goes to the arrival of former WWF Tag Team Champions The Quebeccers (Jacque Rougeau and Pierre Carl Oulette). The two men taunt both teams and the crowd by waving the Quebec flag as they head over to the broadcast booth.
Rougeau and Oulette join Joey Styles at ringside, with Jacques talking arrogantly about being the best team in wrestling today. The match in the ring continues with Super Tiger and Black Dragon making several missteps. Super Tiger holds onto Teioh with Black Dragon goes for a super kick, but Dragon waits too long and ends up decking Super Tiger when Teioh moves. Teioh then tags out to Dick Togo, who comes off the top rope with a dropkick on Black Dragon. Togo then connects with a butterfly suplex to score the win!
Winner: The Hit Squad
- The Quebeccers then move into the ring after the match and begin taunting The Hit Squad, who look more than ready for a fight. The ring gets a little more crowded as Xtreme Tag Team Champions Axl & Ian Rotten make their way to the ring and begin jawing with The Hit Squad as well. Jacques Rougeau takes advantage and bashes Togo from behind with the flag pole. Mens Teioh turns around, only to get drilled by a clothesline from Pierre Carl Oulette. Axl and Ian go after the Quebeccers, but Jacques slams the flag pole into Axl Rotten’s stomach. Ian Rotten fights back, but Rougeau holds him from behind as Pierre bashes him in the gut with the flag pole. The Quebeccers now wave their flag and then take off, leaving all four other wrestlers on the canvas.
COMMERCIAL BREAK
- Joey Styles tells us after the commercial break that The Hit Squad and Xtreme Tag Team Champions Axl & Ian Rotten have both demanded a match with The Quebeccers. Hopefully, next week we can find out if either match will be signed. Styles then sends us to a VTR promoting the upcoming Death Match pitting CTU’s Atsushi Onita and Dave “Fit” Finlay against Sabu and Jushin Thunder Liger at CyberSlam ’96.
Main Event:
Dave “Fit” Finlay (w/ Gary Hart) vs. Sabu
This one is a brawl right away because Sabu takes the upperhand by jumping The Fighting Irishman on his way to the ring. Sabu suplexes Finlay on the entrance ramp and then climbs up to the top rope. Sabu launches himself off when Finlay gets back to his feet. The Fighting Irishman catches Sabu in midair and power-slams him on the ramp. Gary Hart points to the ring so Finlay grabs Sabu and throws him into the ring. Finlay puts the boots to Sabu and then drops a few elbows.
Finlay goes to put Sabu away early on with a tombstone pile-driver, but Sabu slips out and boots Fit in the gut. Sabu then slingshots off the ropes with a dropkick that knocks Finlay over. Gary Hart now signals to the back and here comes Atsushi Onita. Hart directs Onita to get on the apron as Finlay uses the distraction to attack Sabu from behind. Finlay goes to shoot Sabu off the ropes, but Sabu reverses and sends Fit colliding into his partner. Sabu then slams Finlay, and hits a springboard moon-sault to score the win out of nowhere!
Sabu rolls out to the floor after the match, where he is soon joined by partner Jushin Thunder Liger. Finlay is having a hit in the ring, claiming he was fast counted in the ring. Onita is rubbing his injured head as Gary Hart looks on and shakes his head in disgust.
Your Winners: Sabu
*This week’s show closes with the camera taking us to the bowels of the building, where Xtreme Heavyweight Champion Raven is sitting alone. Raven tells Ron Simmons that it looks as if the world is behind him. He says Simmons has always had support – the people cheered when he was nominated for the Heisman trophy. The people cheered when he won the WCW World Heavyweight Title. The people cheered when he won the #1 contender spot last week. “Well what about ME? What about Raven,” the champion shouts, before trailing off. Raven clears the hair out his eyes and says next week, he will show the world why Simmons has remained the challenger here in Xtreme Pro Wrestling, while Raven has been the champion for four months. Raven promises that he will get the last word before CyberSlam ’96 next week here on Extreme Warfare. Next week, Raven's Nest will ensure that Ron Simmons' dream is crushed. Quote the Raven, nevermore.
