“CANADIAN ALL-STAR WRESTLING”
Broadcast on Saturday, July 7, 1984 on CBFT-2 (Montreal), CBLT-5 (Toronto), CBOT-4 (Ottawa) and other CBC affiliates across Canada
Taped earlier in the day at the Verdun Auditorium in Verdun, Quebec
. . . Bravo is knocked out of the ring, and while Superstar jaws with the referee, Paul Orndorff arrives on the scene! Orndorff clobbers Bravo, then he and Heenan put the boots to Bravo! Orndorff cinches Bravo up and looks like he’s going to piledrive him outside the ring . . . but Rocky Johnson rushes out and makes the save!
Superstar, seeing what’s going on, demands that the ref start counting, which he does, but Bravo and Rocky get the upper hand on Orndorff, and Bravo rolls back into the ring in time to beat the count. Bravo is fired up now, and he unloads on the Superstar with a flurry of rights and lefts, then drops him with a big haymaker. Bravo pulls Superstar up, and gets him up in the Airplane Spin! Bravo then slams the Superstar to the mat and covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Billy Red Lyons, Ed Whalen and Pat Patterson are seated at the announce desk. They welcome us to “Canadian All-Star Wrestling”!
This week, we’ll take a look back at the big Canada Day show that took place last Sunday at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa. At the top of the program we saw the final moments of the Dino Bravo vs Masked Superstar match, where Heenan’s plan was revealed, as Superstar was unable to beat Bravo inside the ring, so Paul Orndorff came out and tried to get Bravo counted out so Superstar could win the title that way! As we saw, it didn’t work, thanks to Rocky “Soulman” Johnson, who came to Bravo’s aid.
We also saw the Canadian Mid-Heavyweight and Canadian Tag Team champions crowned, and we’ll take a look at those matches as well.
Michael Hayes made his in-ring debut, and we saw a wild donneybrook between Rocky Johnson and Dewey Robertson and the duo of Bobby Duncum and Ken Patera!
Let’s kick things off with Michael Hayes taking on Tony Parisi!
Taped 7-1-84 in Ottawa, ON:
MICHAEL “PS” HAYES defeats TONY PARISI. Freebird Fantasia has arrived in Canada! Hayes makes his way to the ring to “Badstreet USA”, and pounces on Parisi as soon as he’s in the ring. Hayes dominates the early going, but Parisi keeps fighting, and eventually turns the tables. Parisi’s advantage is short-lived, though, as a low blow from Hayes stops Tony dead in his tracks. A few minutes later, Hayes drops Parisi with the DDT and gets the pinfall victory!
Billy Red says that wasn’t the last we saw of Hayes on Canada Day, though. Later on, he made his presence felt in the tournament final for the Canadian Mid-Heavyweight championship, between Tully Blanchard and Rick Martel.
VTR: Blanchard vs Martel, 7-1-84, JIP:
As we hit the 35-minute mark, Martel has the upper hand, when there’s some commotion . . . and Michael “PS” Hayes makes his way down to the ring!
Inside the ring, there’s a collision, and the referee gets knocked down. With the referee down, Hayes jumps into the ring, and with what looks to be brass knux on, he blasts Martel in the head! Martel crumbles to the mat, as Hayes revives the referee, then dives out of the ring.
As the ref regains his senses, Tully picks up the unconscious Martel, and hits the Slingshot Suplex. Tully covers Martel, and the groggy referee counts to 3!
What a travesty! Tully Blanchard has stolen a victory here, with an assist from Freebird Michael Hayes!
Tully is handed the Mid-Heavyweight belt, and Michael Hayes raises his hand in victory. The fans in attendance are not happy, and they let Tully know it!
END VTR
Billy Red, Whalen and Patterson are joined by the new Canadian Mid-Heavyweight champion Tully Blanchard and Michael “PS” Hayes. Lyons says that the question on everyone’s mind is, why did Michael Hayes get involved in the match between Tully and Rick Martel, helping Tully win?
Tully interrupts, saying that first of all, Hayes didn’t help him win, he would’ve won either way, Hayes was just out there to make sure Martel didn’t try to cheat him out of the title.
Hayes says that he and Tully go way back, they hung out together in Texas back in the day, they used to party together, and when Tully asked him if he would come out to keep an eye on that slimeball Martel, he was happy to help out a friend.
Here comes Rick Martel, and he is not happy!
Martel says that Tully can lie to the fans all he wants, but the truth is, he needed Hayes’ help to beat him, and the people know that it should be him wearing that belt, not Blanchard!
Tully tells Martel if he thinks he’s the better man, then prove it, but as Martel moves towards Tully, he’s jumped from behind by Hayes!
Hayes knocks Martel to the floor, and puts the boots to him. Tully tells him to pick Martel up, so Hayes pulls him up to his knees, holding him by the hair, and Tully winds up, and blasts Martel right in the forehead with the title belt! When they pull Martel up again, he’s got blood running down his face!
Tully hits him in the face with the title belt again, but at that point, Bret Hart, Jay Youngblood and the Rougeau brothers arrive on the scene! Tully and Hayes beat a hasty retreat!
Taped 7-1-84 in Ottawa, ON:
ROCKY JOHNSON & DEWEY ROBERTSON defeat BOBBY DUNCUM & KEN PATERA by Disqualification. This match is a wild one, with Dewey and Rocky showing that they can hold their own in a brawl with Duncum and Patera. Plenty of times throughout the match, we get all four men brawling in the ring together, and referee Terry Yorkston is having a hard time keeping order. The match comes to an end when Rocky Johnson has the advantage, and has Ken Patera reeling. Rocky whips Patera into the corner, but when he charges at him, Patera pulls referee Yorkston in front of him! Yorkston is knocked to the mat, and this brings Duncum and Dewey into the ring as well. All four men brawl, until Yorkston comes to, and disqualifies Patera and Duncum.
The two teams don’t care that the match is over, they continue to brawl, eventually making their way out onto the grass, and to the back and out of sight.

Edited for time:
JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU (w/ Jacques Rougea Sr) defeat THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS: BOBBY EATON & DENNIS CONDREY (w/ Jim Cornette). Cornette and his team come out first, and Cornette grabs the mic from Norm Kimber to introduce Beautiful Bobby and Loverboy Dennis, the Midnight Express! Then the Ottawa fans go nuts as Jacques and Raymond make their way out . . . and it looks like they’re not alone, they’ve got their father, Jacques Sr, with them! Senior gets on the mic, and tells Jim Cornette that he’s out here to keep an eye on him, and if Cornette tries to get involved in any way, he’s going to have to deal with him! Cornette is not happy about this, and he pleads with the referee to send Senior to the back, but it’s not happening!
The match is fast and furious, as these two teams battle tooth and nail for more than 20 minutes. The Rougeaus are on fire early on, and they batter their opponents from one side of the ring to the other. The tide turns, though, when Jim Cornette distracts the referee, allowing the MX to double-team Jacques. For the next several minutes, Jacques Jr takes a beating at the hands of Eaton and Condrey, as they quickly tag in and out, keeping the fresh man in, and Rougeau isolated in their half of the ring. Eventually Jacques gets a break, when he ducks a clothesline from Condrey, then hits a dropkick, but as Jacques dashes towards his corner, Bobby Eaton gets the referee’s attention, and he doesn’t see Jacques make the tag! The MX continue to pummel Jacques, bringing Raymond in, but as the ref forces him back out, it just gives Eaton and Condrey more opportunity to double-team Jacques.
After a few more minutes of double-teaming from the MX, Raymond has had enough, he charges into the ring, this time the referee isn’t able to stop him, he rushes right past the ref, and tears into Eaton and Condrey. He knocks Eaton out of the ring, and then hits Condrey with a standing dropkick that puts Dennis flat on his back on the mat. Raymond goes back over to the Rougeau corner, and Jacques is able to crawl over and make the tag. Raymond comes back in, and tears into Condrey, but as Raymond runs the ropes, he’s tripped by Cornette at ringside.
Here comes Jacques Sr! Senior grabs Cornette by the collar, and knocks him to the ground with a big right hand! Eaton and Condrey rush to their manager’s aide, but Jacques Jr and Raymond come over as well, and we get a big brawl on the grass.
The Rougeaus and MX make it back into the ring just in time to avoid a double count-out, and they continue to brawl. The Rougeaus gain the upper hand, and Raymond grabs Eaton in a bearhug, then holds him up off the mat, and Jacques comes off the top rope with a clothesline. Jacques then covers Eaton, while Raymond tackles Condrey. The referee counts . . .

The Rougeau brothers have won the match, and the Canadian Tag Team titles!!!
We hear pre-recorded comments from the new Canadian Tag Team champs Jacques & Raymond Rougeau. They’re in a celebratory mood, and thank the fans for their support. They promise the fans that they’ll give 110% each and every time they defend these belts, and they’ll work at being champions that the fans can look up to and be proud of.
From there, we hear comments from Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express. Cornette is beside himself, saying that Jacques Rougeau Sr doesn’t have a managers license, he had no right being out there, and he and his sons screwed him and his Midnight Express out of the Tag Team titles! Cornette says that he’s already used some of his Mama’s money on some very high-priced lawyers! He says that Gene Kiniski and the CWF had better make this right and hand those belts over to the Midnight Express, or he’s going to sic those lawyers on them!
Lyons, Whalen and Patterson wrap things up, and Lyons hypes next week’s show.
