THE CANADIAN WRESTLING FEDERATION
CANADA DAY EXTRAVAGANZA!!!
SUNDAY, JULY 1, 1984
LANSDOWNE PARK IN OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA
Ring announcer Norm Kimber welcomes everyone to the show, and thanks them for choosing to spend their Canada Day with the Canadian Wrestling Federation! He runs down the matches that will take place, including the crowning of the Canadian Tag Team champions and the Canadian Mid-Heavyweight champion!
TOM ZENK beats SGT JACQUES GOULET (FA). The youngster Zenk has been improving with each match out, but he’s got a double tough opponent here in the rugged veteran Goulet. Zenk gets the win, though, when he hits an impressive slingshot splash, from the apron into the ring, for the pinfall!
BRET HART & JAY YOUNGBLOOD beat THE COBRA & THE DRAGON (Ben Bassarab) (FA). Four of the top Mid-Heavyweight wrestlers in the world square off in this match, and the fans are treated to nearly 20 minutes of action-packed, back and forth wrestling. The masked team fly all over the ring, while Bret and Youngblood try to keep things on the mat. At one point, Bret and Cobra have a long sequence of trading holds and counter-holds, before Cobra dropkicks Bret to the outside, and takes flight, diving over the top rope, crushing Bret against the guardrail! As we hit the 19-minute mark, Jay Youngblood comes off the top rope with the flying Tomahawk Chop onto the masked Dragon, and covers him for the 1, 2, 3 while Bret keeps the Cobra from breaking it up.
MICHAEL “PS” HAYES defeats TONY PARISI. Freebird Fantasia has arrived in Canada! Hayes makes his way to the ring to “Badstreet USA”, and pounces on Parisi as soon as he’s in the ring. Hayes dominates the early going, but Parisi keeps fighting, and eventually turns the tables. Parisi’s advantage is short-lived, though, as a low blow from Hayes stops Tony dead in his tracks. A few minutes later, Hayes drops Parisi with the DDT and gets the pinfall victory!
“MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) beats GEORGE WELLS. Wells, a former Canadian Football League All-Star, is well known to the fans, as he played many games here at Lansdowne Park in his CFL days. The fans are solidly behind him, as he takes on Mr. Wonderful. The match is pretty even early on, neither man can gain a clear advantage for long. Eventually Orndorff gains control of the match, thanks to Bobby Heenan tripping Wells as he ran the ropes. Orndorff focuses on Wells’ neck, looking to soften him up for the Piledriver. The first time Orndorff cinches him up for the move, Wells is able backdrop Orndorff, then go on the offensive. Unfortunately for Wells, his advantage doesn’t last long, as Orndorff reverses an Irish whip attempt, sending Wells into the corner. Orndorff then catches Wells coming out of the corner with a vicious running clothesline that snaps Wells’ head back, further hurting his neck. From there, Orndorff cinches Wells up for the Piledriver, and this time he hits the move. Orndorff covers Wells and gets the 1, 2, 3!
ROCKY JOHNSON & DEWEY ROBERTSON defeat BOBBY DUNCUM & KEN PATERA by DQ. This match is a wild one, with Dewey and Rocky showing that they can hold their own in a brawl with Duncum and Patera. Plenty of times throughout the match, we get all four men brawling in the ring together, and referee Terry Yorkston is having a hard time keeping order. The match comes to an end when Rocky Johnson has the advantage, and has Ken Patera reeling. Rocky whips Patera into the corner, but when he charges at him, Patera pulls referee Yorkston in front of him! Yorkston is knocked to the mat, and this brings Duncum and Dewey into the ring as well. All four men brawl, until Yorkston comes to, and disqualifies Patera and Duncum.
The two teams don’t care that the match is over, they continue to brawl, eventually making their way out onto the grass, and to the back and out of sight.
For the vacant Canadian Tag Team championship:
JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU defeat THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS: BOBBY EATON & DENNIS CONDREY (w/ Jim Cornette). Cornette and his team come out first, and Cornette grabs the mic from Norm Kimber to introduce Beautiful Bobby and Loverboy Dennis, the Midnight Express! Then the Ottawa fans go nuts as Jacques and Raymond make their way out . . . and it looks like they’re not alone, they’ve got their father, Jacques Sr, with them! Senior gets on the mic, and tells Jim Cornette that he’s out here to keep an eye on him, and if Cornette tries to get involved in any way, he’s going to have to deal with him! Cornette is not happy about this, and he pleads with the referee to send Senior to the back, but it’s not happening!
The match is fast and furious, as these two teams battle tooth and nail for more than 20 minutes. The Rougeaus are on fire early on, and they batter their opponents from one side of the ring to the other. The tide turns, though, when Jim Cornette distracts the referee, allowing the MX to double-team Jacques. For the next several minutes, Jacques Jr takes a beating at the hands of Eaton and Condrey, as they quickly tag in and out, keeping the fresh man in, and Rougeau isolated in their half of the ring. Eventually Jacques gets a break, when he ducks a clothesline from Condrey, then hits a dropkick, but as Jacques dashes towards his corner, Bobby Eaton gets the referee’s attention, and he doesn’t see Jacques make the tag! The MX continue to pummel Jacques, bringing Raymond in, but as the ref forces him back out, it just gives Eaton and Condrey more opportunity to double-team Jacques.
After a few more minutes of double-teaming from the MX, Raymond has had enough, he charges into the ring, this time the referee isn’t able to stop him, he rushes right past the ref, and tears into Eaton and Condrey. He knocks Eaton out of the ring, and then hits Condrey with a standing dropkick that puts Dennis flat on his back on the mat. Raymond goes back over to the Rougeau corner, and Jacques is able to crawl over and make the tag. Raymond comes back in, and tears into Condrey, but as Raymond runs the ropes, he’s tripped by Cornette at ringside.
Here comes Jacques Sr! Senior grabs Cornette by the collar, and knocks him to the ground with a big right hand! Eaton and Condrey rush to their manager’s aide, but Jacques Jr and Raymond come over as well, and we get a big brawl on the grass.
The Rougeaus and MX make it back into the ring just in time to avoid a double count-out, and they continue to brawl. The Rougeaus gain the upper hand, and Raymond grabs Eaton in a bearhug, then holds him up off the mat, and Jacques comes off the top rope with a clothesline. Jacques then covers Eaton, while Raymond tackles Condrey. The referee counts . . .

The Rougeau brothers have won the match, and the Canadian Tag Team titles!!!
For the vacant Canadian Mid-Heavyweight championship:
TULLY BLANCHARD defeats RICK MARTEL. Tully and Martel put on a wrestling clinic, going hold for hold for more than 30 minutes. As we hit the 35-minute mark, Martel has the upper hand, when there’s some commotion . . . and Michael “PS” Hayes makes his way down to the ring!
Inside the ring, there’s a collision, and the referee gets knocked down. With the referee down, Hayes jumps into the ring, and with what looks to be brass knux on, he blasts Martel in the head! Martel crumbles to the mat, as Hayes revives the referee, then dives out of the ring.
As the ref regains his senses, Tully picks up the unconscious Martel, and hits the Slingshot Suplex. Tully covers Martel, and the groggy referee counts to 3!
What a travesty! Tully Blanchard has stolen a victory here, with an assist from Freebird Michael Hayes!
Tully is handed the Mid-Heavyweight belt, and Michael Hayes raises his hand in victory. The fans in attendance are not happy, and they let Tully know it!
International Heavyweight championship
If Bravo is counted out, he loses the title:
DINO BRAVO (champ) defeats THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan). Bravo and the Superstar tear into each other as soon as the bell sounds, and we’re treated to a wild, hard-hitting battle! Recently on television, the announcers had wondered if Heenan and Superstar had something up their sleeve, regarding the stipulation that they had added, and as the match progresses, Heenan’s plan is revealed! Bravo is knocked out of the ring, and while Superstar jaws with the referee, Paul Orndorff arrives on the scene! Orndorff clobbers Bravo, then he and Heenan put the boots to Bravo! Orndorff cinches Bravo up and looks like he’s going to piledrive him outside the ring . . . but Rocky Johnson rushes out and makes the save!
Superstar, seeing what’s going on, demands that the ref start counting, which he does, but Bravo and Rocky get the upper hand on Orndorff, and Bravo rolls back into the ring in time to beat the count. Bravo is fired up now, and he unloads on the Superstar with a flurry of rights and lefts, then drops him with a big haymaker. Bravo pulls Superstar up, and gets him up in the Airplane Spin! Bravo then slams the Superstar to the mat and covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Dino Bravo has pinned the Masked Superstar and retained the International championship!
Superstar attacks Bravo from behind as he’s getting his hand raised, and this leads to both Paul Orndorff and Rocky Johnson jumping into the ring as well!
Bravo and Rocky brawl with Superstar and Orndorff for several minutes, before security personnel, officials and other wrestlers hit the ring and separate them.
