Broadcast on Saturday, June 23, 1984 on CBLT-5 (Toronto), CBOT-4 (Ottawa), CBFT-2 (Montreal), CBRT-9 (Calgary), CBUT-2 (Vancouver) and other CBC affiliates across Canada
Taped earlier in the day at the Colosseum in Weyburn, Saskatchewan
Opening Clip:
. . . Tully gets frustrated late in the match, as nothing he does seems to be enough to put Youngblood away, the young warrior keeps kicking out every time Tully goes for the pin. When Tully tries to set Jay up for the slingshot suplex, Youngblood hooks his foot around Blanchard’s, blocking the move, then reverses it, holding Tully up in the air for what probably felt to Tully like an eternity, before suplexing him to the mat.
The next few minutes see Tully take a beating at the hands of Jay Youngblood, who seems to have the match well in hand. But when Youngblood goes for the flying Tomahawk Chop, Tully sidesteps him, then kicks Youngblood in the gut, and before Jay can react, Tully cinches him up and hits the Slingshot Suplex!
Tully hooks a leg, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Billy Red Lyons, Ed Whalen and Pat Patterson are seated at the announce desk. They welcome us to “Canadian All-Star Wrestling”!
Billy Red says we’re a week away from the big Canada Day show at Lansdowne Park in the nation’s capital. One of the many big matches on that card will see a Canadian Mid-Heavyweight champion crowned. As we heard last week from CWF President Gene Kiniski, the CWF has decided to put a weight limit on the title, at 230 lbs, and the title was renamed the Canadian Mid-Heavyweight championship.
We saw at the top of the program, Tully Blanchard won a thrilling match over Jay Youngblood in the semi-final match last week, and today, we’ll see Rick Martel face the masked man from Japan, the Cobra, with the winner going on to face Blanchard for the Canadian title on July 1.
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeats NICK DECARLO (FA). Superstar gets the win by pinfall after hitting DeCarlo with the Corkscrew Neckbreaker. DeCarlo has to be helped from the ring
Billy Red says there’s a new wrestler coming to the Canadian Wrestling Federation. He’s someone that the Canadian fans haven’t seen before, but he’s made a name for himself in the States, particularly in the south, places like Texas and Louisiana.
Michael “PS” Hayes!
Whalen wonders what the “PS” stands for? Billy Red says that if you ask Hayes, he’ll tell you it stands for “Purely Sexy”, but some others have claimed it stands for less flattering things, like “Prissy Sissy”!
Patterson says that Hayes, as part of the Fabulous Freebirds trio, wreaked havoc in the southern US. He says that the Freebirds have sold out stadiums like the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, and Texas Stadium in Dallas, and have caused riots wherever they’ve gone. He says he can only imagine what kind of antics Hayes is going to get up to here in the CWF.
TULLY BLANCHARD defeats JOE MARCUS (FA). Tully gets the pinfall victory after hitting the Slingshot Suplex.
JACQUES & RAYMOND ROUGEAU defeat THE MASKED SHADOWS. The Rougeaus face the mysterious masked team here, and make short work of them, as Jacques gets the win, hitting one of the masked men with an elbowdrop off the top rope.
CANADIAN MID-HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT; SEMI-FINAL MATCH:
RICK MARTEL defeats THE COBRA. We’re treated to an exciting, fast-paced match here, as Martel and the Cobra go toe to toe. The Cobra shows off his exciting array of high-flying moves, but in the end, it backfires on him, as the Cobra dives over the top rope, towards Martel on the floor, but Ricky moves out of the way, and Cobra crashes into the guardrail. Martel rolls the Cobra back into the ring, and goes to work softening up the masked man’s lower back.
Martel eventually locks on the Boston Crab, and, while the Cobra tries to power his way out, it’s no use, and finally he submits, giving Martel the victory!
Billy Red, Whalen and Patterson hype the big Canada Day show coming up, one week from tomorrow, July 1, at Ottawa’s Lansdowne Park. Billy Red says that the card will be part of all-day festivities in Ottawa, and he urges the fans to come on out to Lansdowne Park next Sunday.
A graphic then appears on the screen as they run down the line-up for the card:

Lyons, Whalen and Patterson then wrap up the show. Billy Red mentions that next week’s show will be a preview show for the big Canada Day card. There won’t be any new matches, but they’ll recap everything that’s happened leading up to the matches set to take place on July 1.
