Opening Clip:
. . . Bravo follows him out, but when he goes to grab ahold of the Superstar, the masked man drives a knee into Bravo’s gut, doubling him over. A wicked clothesline puts the champion flat on his back on the ramp. Superstar then pulls him up . . . and hits the Corkscrew Neckbreaker on the ramp!!!
Bravo is out, and the Superstar climbs back into the ring, just in time to beat the referee’s count!
The Superstar has won the match by Count-out, but Dino Bravo retains the International title.
Superstar then goes back out onto the ramp, and pulls Bravo up by his hair. Bravo seems unsteady on his feet for a moment, but as the Superstar goes to hit him, Bravo blocks it, and nails the Superstar with a big right hand, then another, and another! With the masked man reeling, Bravo tears into him, and the two men brawl down the ramp and out of sight.
Billy Red Lyons, Ed Whalen and Pat Patterson are seated at the announce desk. They welcome us to “Canadian All-Star Wrestling”!
Billy Red, Whalen and Patterson talk about the clip we saw at the top of the program, from last Sunday night at Maple Leaf Gardens. Nothing was settled between Dino Bravo and the Masked Superstar, as Dino Bravo was counted out after suffering the Corkscrew Neckbreaker on the ramp. First thing Monday morning, Dino Bravo went to Gene Kiniski and the CWF promoters, and asked for a rematch.
His request was granted, but Bobby Heenan and the Masked Superstar wanted a stipulation added, that if Bravo is counted out, he loses the title. Heenan claims Bravo got himself intentionally counted out, just to save the title. Obviously the video footage shows that’s not the case, but Heenan is adamant that the stipulation be added, and Bravo agreed.
Whalen says he questions Bravo’s agreeing to that stipulation, just based on the way the previous match ended, and he thinks Heenan and the Superstar have something up their sleeves.
Patterson says Dino Bravo is not one to back down from a fight, and if it means he has to agree to some extra stipulations in order to get his hands on the Superstar, then that’s what he’ll do.
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON defeats BOBBY BASS (FA). Bass attacks Rocky from behind as Johnson is removing his ring jacket. Bass spends the first minute or two of the match putting the boots to Rocky, but the Soulman bounces back. In a show of Rocky’s exceptional athleticism, as Bass charges towards Rocky, who’s on the mat, Johnson kips up, and the second his feet touch the mat, he takes Bass over with an armdrag, then hits Bass with a beautiful standing dropkick as Bass gets back to his feet. Rocky is fired up now, and gives us an “Ali shuffle” before stunning Bass with a flurry of rights and lefts, then the big knockout punch! Bass is out, and Rocky covers him for the 1, 2, 3!
Lyons, Whalen and Patterson are joined by CWF President Gene Kiniski. Gene says that he has an announcement regarding the Canadian title. He says that the CWF has decided to put a weight limit on the Canadian title, so instead of it being an “open-weight” title, or a heavyweight title like the International championship, the weight limit will be set at 230 lbs, so anyone that weighs 230 or under will be able to compete for the Canadian title. All four of the semi-finalists in the title tournament have weighed in within that limit, and with this decision, the title will now be known as the Canadian Mid-Heavyweight championship.
KEN PATERA & BOBBY DUNCUM defeat BOB & JOE MARCUS (FA). Duncum and Patera make short work of the Marcus brothers, with Duncum pinning Joe after a vicious Lariat.
Gino Brito is with International heavyweight champion Dino Bravo. Brito says that Bravo met the Masked Superstar in a match last Sunday night in Toronto, where Bravo was counted out of the ring. When the rematch was signed, Heenan and Superstar had a stipulation added that, if he’s counted out again, he will lose the title.
Bravo keeps it short and sweet, saying that he’s going to be ready for all the Superstar’s tricks the next time they meet, and the stipulation doesn’t bother him, because he has no intention of getting counted out, he’s going to pin the Superstar, 1-2-3, right in the middle of the ring.
Billy Red, Whalen and Patterson are joined by Bobby Heenan and the Masked Superstar. Heenan calls Dino Bravo a coward, saying he got himself intentionally counted out last Sunday at MLG, because he knew it was the only way to save his title. He says that it should be obvious to everyone watching this show that Bravo is nothing but a paper champion, he’s not fit to wear that International title belt, and Heenan wants, no he DEMANDS, that the CWF strip Bravo of the International title immediately, and hand it over to the rightful champion, the Masked Superstar!
Superstar says that he expected more from Bravo, he thought, if nothing else, Bravo would stand and fight, and lose the title like a man, not resort to a cheap count-out to hold onto his belt. Superstar says that the next time they meet, with the added stipulation that Bravo will lose the title if he’s counted out, there’s nothing Bravo can do, no way for him to save his title.
RICK MARTEL defeats THE WILDMAN (FA). Martel has his hands full with the unpredictable Wildman, but in the end, Martel picks up the win when he locks on the Boston Crab for the submission.
CANADIAN MID-HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT; SEMI-FINAL MATCH:
TULLY BLANCHARD defeats JAY YOUNGBLOOD. Plenty of time was saved for this match, and it needed it, as these two went tooth and nail for more than 15 minutes. On commentary, Lyons, Whalen and Patterson talk about Gene Kiniski’s announcement, that the Canadian title will now be a Mid-Heavyweight title, and say that’s good news for the fans, because these smaller wrestlers are some of the most talented men in the sport, and it’s going to mean some classic matches for the fans.
Tully gets frustrated late in the match, as nothing he does seems to be enough to put Youngblood away, the young warrior keeps kicking out every time Tully goes for the pin. When Tully tries to set Jay up for the slingshot suplex, Youngblood hooks his foot around Blanchard’s, blocking the move, then reverses it, holding Tully up in the air for what probably felt to Tully like an eternity, before suplexing him to the mat.
The next few minutes see Tully take a beating at the hands of Jay Youngblood, who seems to have the match well in hand. But when Youngblood goes for the flying Tomahawk Chop, Tully sidesteps him, then kicks Youngblood in the gut, and before Jay can react, Tully cinches him up and hits the Slingshot Suplex!
Tully hooks a leg, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Tully Blanchard moves onto the finals, to face the winner of next week’s semi-final match between Rick Martel and the Cobra!
Lyons, Whalen and Patterson then wrap up the show, and hype next week’s program.
