THE CANADIAN WRESTLING FEDERATION
SUNDAY, JUNE 10, 1984
MAPLE LEAF GARDENS IN TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA
THE HUNGARIAN WOLFMAN beats NICK DECARLO by pinfall after a kneedrop off the top rope across the throat of DeCarlo.
TOM ZENK beats THE WILDMAN by DQ. The rookie gives it his all against the lunatic from the “wilds of Canada”. In the end, Zenk gets the win when the Wildman refuses to stop biting Zenk’s forehead, causing the referee to disqualify the Wildman.
THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS: BOBBY EATON & DENNIS CONDREY (w/ Jim Cornette) defeat BRET & BRUCE HART. The MX prepare for their upcoming match with the Rougeaus, as they take on the Hart brothers from Calgary. Bret and Bruce take the fight right to Corny’s team, and the momentum goes back and forth early on. The teams seem pretty evenly matched, but it’s Jim Cornette that makes the difference in the end, as he trips Bruce Hart as he runs the ropes. Bruce turns his attention to Corny, and that allows the MX to attack him from behind. Moments later, they hit Bruce with the Rocket Launcher and Eaton pins him for the win.
ROCKY “SOULMAN” JOHNSON beats MAD DOG LEFEBVRE. Rocky, the hometown boy, delights the fans as he opens up on the Mad Dog with a flurry of rights and lefts, then winds up and hits a big haymaker, but Lefebvre rolls out of the ring and takes a minute to shake off the cobwebs. Back in the ring, a thumb to the eye from the Mad Dog turns the tables, and Lefebvre pummels the Soulman with reckless abandon, knocking him to the mat with clubbing forearms, then stomping away at Johnson! Rocky fights back, but every time he seems to get something going, the Mad Dog takes a short cut to turn the tables again.
In the end, Lefebvre whips Johnson into the ropes, and attempts a clothesline, but Rocky ducks it, then puts the brakes on, and when Lefebvre turns around, Rocky nails him with the knockout punch! The lights go out, as Lefebvre falls to the mat. Rocky quickly hooks the leg, and gets the 1, 2, 3!
“MR. WONDERFUL” PAUL ORNDORFF (w/ Bobby Heenan) beats DEWEY ROBERTSON. The MLG fans are treated to an exciting, back and forth match here. The former Canadian champ has taken on more of a brawling style since he was last in Toronto, and he goes toe to toe with Mr. Wonderful. After more than 15 minutes of action, Orndorff gains the upper hand, and drops Dewey on his head with the Piledriver. Dewey is as tough as they come, but there’s no getting up from the Piledriver, and Orndorff gets the 3-count!
RICK MARTEL & JAY YOUNGBLOOD battle TULLY BLANCHARD & THE COBRA to a time-limit DRAW. The four semi-finalists of the Canadian title tournament are put into a tag team match here. Despite neither team being a regular tag team, both sides seem to gel pretty quickly. The action is fast and furious, but in the end, neither team can get the win before the 30-minute time limit runs out.
THE MASKED SUPERSTAR (w/ Bobby Heenan) defeats International Heavyweight champion DINO BRAVO by COUNT-OUT. This is the match that the fans have been waiting for, as the animosity has continued to build between these two over the past several weeks. Superstar tries to attack Bravo before the bell, but the champ is ready, and responds with a flurry of rights and lefts that leave the masked man stunned. Bravo tries to put the Superstar away early, but the masked man battles back and the next several minutes see the Superstar gleefully pummeling Bravo, not even bothering to try and pin him, he just seems to be enjoying punishing the champion!
When a clothesline knocks Bravo through the ropes and to the floor, the Superstar follows him out, and the battle continues outside the ring. Bravo is in bad shape as the Superstar continues to pummel him, but when he tries to run Bravo’s head into the ringpost, Dino reverses it, sending the Superstar head-first into the steel post instead! Back inside the ring, Bravo continues on the offensive, and the Superstar decides to take a minute to clear his head, and rolls out of the ring, onto the famous MLG ramp.
Bravo follows him out, but when he goes to grab ahold of the Superstar, the masked man drives a knee into Bravo’s gut, doubling him over. A wicked clothesline puts the champion flat on his back on the ramp. Superstar then pulls him up . . . and hits the Corkscrew Neckbreaker on the ramp!!!
Bravo is out, and the Superstar climbs back into the ring, just in time to beat the referee’s count!
The Superstar has won the match by Count-out, but Dino Bravo retains the International title.
Superstar then goes back out onto the ramp, and pulls Bravo up by his hair. Bravo seems unsteady on his feet for a moment, but as the Superstar goes to hit him, Bravo blocks it, and nails the Superstar with a big right hand, then another, and another! With the masked man reeling, Bravo tears into him, and the two men brawl down the ramp and out of sight.
Ring announcer Norm Kimber thanks everyone for coming, and reminds the Toronto fans to make the short trek to Ottawa on July 1 for the big Canada Day extravaganza at Lansdowne Park!
