Gordon Solie and Lou Thesz host a presentation for the American press in Los Angeles announcing the formation of Fighting Spirit Promotions. Fighting Spirit TV will air on Nippon in Japan, and weekly highlights will be broadcast on FNN in the US, with Mr. Solie and Mr. Thesz providing English-language analysis.
More details will be announced on the debut TV broadcast, Friday 6/22/1984 at 11pm on FNN, but Mr. Thesz and Mr. Solie can announce Fighting Spirit Promotions will host the World's Strongest Tag Determination League over the next several weeks at various venues in Japan, leading up to a grand finale in the main event of an all-star show this summer at Korakuen Hall. Taped highlights of the World's Strongest Tag Determination League will air in the US on the FNN show weekly.
Mr. Solie and Mr. Thesz then announce the 10 teams that will be competing:
Toshiaki Kawada and Samson Fuyuki
These teams will be split into two blocks of five teams each, at random. Block A and Block B will be revealed on FNN this weekend, and then fans will be shown highlights of this round robin tournament each week on TV. A pin or a submission earns a team four points, a disqualification or count-out victory earns the winners two points, and a draw earns both teams one point.
One all of the teams in Block A have faced each other, and vice versa in Block B, the top-scoring team from Block A will face the top-scoring team from Block B in the grand finale of the World's Strongest Tag Determination League to determine the World Tag Team Champions.
Mr. Solie and Mr. Thesz close the press conference with a brief mention that Fighting Spirit Promotions will also become the home to International Heavyweight Champion Harley Race, United National Heavyweight Champion Genichiro Tenryu, PWF Heavyweight Champion Giant Baba and, later this year, will be home to the Young Lion Cup tournament.
