CWF Canadian All-Star Wrestling
Airs April 28, 1984 at 1pm on CBC affiliates across Canada
Taped at the Civic Centre in Brantford, Ontario
Hosted by Billy Red Lyons, Ed Whalen and Pat Patterson.
Interview with CWF President Gene Kiniski. He welcomes us to the debut episode of the CWF’s Canadian All-Star Wrestling. He announces that a new Canadian champion will be crowned on Canada Day, July 1st, at Ottawa’s Lansdowne Park. Instead of a one-night tournament, there will be 4 tournaments . . . one in Toronto, one in Montréal, one in Calgary, and one in Vancouver! The winner of each tournament will then move on to the semifinals, which will take place right here on television in June, and then the two semifinal winners will wrestle for the title on Canada Day!
We also hear from Bobby Heenan. Bobby says that he is going to rule Canada, just like he has ruled every other wrestling promotion he’s ever been involved with. Heenan introduces the first member of his “Heenan Family” . . . the Masked Superstar! Bobby says that he’s going to have a HUGE announcement next week, one that will change the face of wrestling!
Later in the show, we hear from Tully Blanchard who says that he is going to be a part of the upcoming Canadian title tournament, and says we’re looking at the next champion!
We see clips of several of the wrestlers that are going to be a part of the CWF, including Ken Patera, Bret Hart, Angelo Mosca and Paul Orndorff.
Matches on the show:
The Masked Superstar (w/ Bobby Heenan) beat Bob Marcus(FA) after a Corkscrew Neckbreaker.
Rick Martel beat Scrap Iron Scranton(FA) with the Boston Crab.
Tully Blanchard beat Nick DeCarlo(FA) with the slingshot suplex.
The show ends with the final 5 or 6 minutes of Dino Bravo defeating Billy Robinson to win the International title on March 7, 1983 at the Paul Sauve Centre in Montréal.
