UNIVERSAL WRESTLING ENTERPRISE presents
Superstars of the Ring
Taped: Tuesday, May 1
Airing: Friday, May 4, ESPN
Sacramento, CA
Memorial Auditorium
Gene Okerlund is stationed at the interview center as he welcomes fans to Superstars of the Ring.
Gene Okerlund: "Welcome back to our nationwide audience for another edition of Superstars of the Ring. To all the fans tuning in on ESPN, you are in for an exciting evening of wrestling. Tonight we will continue to debut new stars as wrestlers from all over the world are flocking to the UWE. In our main event, you will see a match that could sell out arenas all over the world as Greg Valentine meets up with Jimmy Snuka.
We are just weeks away from Title Weekend. Over the course of two days, the first UWE world heavyweight champion and world tag team champions will be crowned. The tag-team title tournament will be at the San Diego Sports Arena on Saturday and the heavyweight title tournament will be at the Forum in Los Angles on Sunday. If you are within driving distance get to Southern California for this historic weekend of wrestling. If you're too far to drive, call your travel agent and tell them you can't miss Title Weekend!
The excitement of our first broadcast on ESPN last week was dampened by the heinous acts of two men: Jake the Snake Roberts and Greg the Hammer Valentine. These men brutally attacked Roddy Piper during the main event of our program. Let's take a look at what transpired last Friday."
---Video package of the Piper/Valentine attack on Roddy Piper---
Gene Okerlund: Joining us now to discuss their atrocious actions last week are Jake Roberts and Greg Valentine. Gentleman, the wrestling world wants to now, "why"?
Jake Roberts: Why does the Snake attack its prey when that prey has no chance of fighting back? To satiate its appetite. Like I told you last week, I have an unquenchable appetite for money, for power. I'm not asking for these things to be handed to me. No, like the snake who roams the wild, I seek out the prey I want and finish it. Anyone who stands in my way will suffer the same fate.
Greg Valentine: I've had my wars with Piper over the years, as you saw last week, he stands no chance in this battle. We will continue to take what we want, when we want. Title Weekend will see no one standing in our way. I was brought here to watch this man's back, to ensure he wins the heavyweight title. When that is done, I'll take some gold of my own. Get out of our way or you will end up just like Roddy Piper: unable to walk, unable to defend himself, unable to wrestle
Gene Okerlund: Roberts and Valentine are showing no remorse for their despicable actions last week. Let's head to the ring for our first match of the evening as we welcome a new tag-team to the promotion, the Killer Bees who face the tough duo of Matt Bourne and Ron Starr. Rod Trongard and Dutch Mantell are at ringside.
Match #1
The Killer Bees, B. Brian Blair and Jim Brunzell, defeat Matt Bourne and Ron Starr via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: An impressive debut for the Killer Bees who are showing that they will be a forced to be reckoned with over Title Weekend. Joining us now is a star who made his debut on last week's program, the popular Junkyard Dog.
Junkyard Dog: The dog has arrived and he needs a bone. The leash is off, I'm free to prowl where I want, whenever I need. How's the 'ol saying go, another one bites the dust? That's what's going to happen all over the UWE, the dog is going to bite, chomp and chew his way to the top. Title Weekend, come out and see the dog get the golden bone daddy.
---Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund is at the interview area when he is joined by the flamboyant Captain Lou Albano and his tag-team, the Wild Samoans.
Gene Okerlund: I'm here with one of the most recognizable managers in all of wrestling, Captain Lou Albano, and the team he hopes will win the tag-team tournament at Title Weekend, the Wild Samoans.
Captain Lou Albano and the Wild Samoans: Let me stop you right there. Did you really just say I hope they'll win the tag team titles?!? Because what you really meant to say is 'he knows' they'll win the tag-team titles. These two men beside me are just weeks away from becoming the world tag team champions. Who's going to beat them. Those pretty boys from the Rock and Roll Express? The Killer Bees? Take a look at these savages and tell me you think there is anyone who can stop them. Because if you think they can be beat, you're as dumb as the rest of the fat slobs sitting at home watching this show.
Gene Okerlund: Captain Lou Albano is not looking to make friends here in the UWE. The Samoans will have some tough competition for those tag-team titles as teams continue to arrive in the UWE from all over the world. Joining us next are two tag-teams making their debuts, let's head to ring and see these new stars.
Match #2
Playboy Buddy Rose and Doug Sommers defeat Scott Casey and Steve Simpson via pinfall when Rose uses an illegal object to incapacitate Casey.
Gene Okerlund: Rose and Sommers show that they are willing to do whatever it takes to win matches here in the UWE. We haven't heard the last from Scott Casey and Steve Simpson, I'm sure. Joining us now is another star making his way to the UWE, Adrian Adonis who has obtained the services of Classy Freddy Blassie to serve as his manager.
Freddie Blassie: Okerlund, you're worse than these pencil necked geeks sitting at home, jealous of the one and only Adrian Adonis. I now what it means to wrestle on the West Coast, I've done it for most of my career. I know how hard it is to deal with these moronic fans from San Diego all the way up to Portland. Fans who have no respect for true warriors like Adrian Adonis. I will use my expertise to guide Adonis to the world heavyweight title at Title Weekend.
Adrian Adonis: The classy one is right. I cannot be bothered to deal with these low-life, classless fans that call the West Coast home. I'm from New York, the place you all want to be from. This man will provide the strategy, I'll provide the muscle. That combination equals one thing: world title.
--Commercial Break---
Gene Okerlund: I sound like a broken record, but we keep getting more and more stars who are making their way to the UWE. The prospect of winning a world title at Title Weekend is too enticing to pass up. Plus, the chance to wrestle each and every week in front of this national television audience on ESPN. Joining the UWE this evening is the great Mexican star, Tito Santana.
Tito Santana: Thank you my man! It's great to be here in front of so many incredible fans both in the arena and out there in the television audience. I know the competition is tough, I know I'll have to be at the top of my game. But I've never backed down from a challenge and I'm sure not going to stop now. I plan on doing all I can to win the world title at Title Weekend and then defend that belt for the honor of you fans. Arriba!
Gene Okerlund: Tito Santana is ready for action! In our next match, we have a real treat. As we promised last week, in action right here on the program are the Rock and Roll Express!
Match #3
The Rock and Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, defeat Bob Roop and Black Bart via pinfall.
Gene Okerlund: An impressive in-ring debut for the Rock and Roll Express. Joining us next is one of the meanest cowboys you'll ever meet, the man with the bullwhip, Ron Bass.
Ron Bass: Give me that microphone Okerlund! What you are seeing right now is toughest son of a gun you've ever laid your eyes on. I'm not here to sight-see, I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to kick the tar out of anyone who steps in my way. When I get done with all these city boys in the UWE, you've going to now I was here.
---Commercial break---
Gene Okerlund: As we showed you earlier in the program, Roddy Piper was the victim of a vicious attack last week by Jake Roberts and Greg Valentine. Doctors are unsure whether he will be medically cleared before Title Weekend. Here to give us his thoughts is Roddy Piper.
Roddy Piper: What do I want to hear about doctors?! If I need someone to deliver a baby, I'll call a doctor. If I need someone to fix my grandmother's hip, I'll call a doctor. If I need someone to tell me when I can wrestle, I ain't calling no doctor. I will be ready for Title Weekend and I will make Roberts and Valentine pay. That's a promise jack. Now, I ain't the smartest person in the world, I'm just some dumb wrestler. But I am smart enough to know I can't take on two men at the same time. That's why I've brought in some help. Someone to even the odds. Let me introduce you all to one of the hottest names in all of wresting, Magnum TA!
-Magnum TA arrives at the interview area---
Magnum TA: Thank you for that warm welcome. It's great to be in the UWE. This man, Roddy Piper, called me and told me he has a little problem out here. Well, make that two problems. Let me tell you something Jake Roberts and Greg Valentine, we just evened the score. Let's see how tough you are when it's not two on one. Instead it's going to be man to man. I don't need sneak attacks, I don't need double teaming. Anytime, any place, let's go!
Gene Okerlund: Roddy Piper knew he needed some help and brought in help in a huge way! One of the up and coming stars in all of wrestling is in the UWE. I know we all look forward to seeing Magnum TA in action! Let's head to the ring for our main event.
Match #4
Jimmy Snuka defeated Greg Valentine via disqualification when Jake Roberts interfered in the match. Yet again, Valentine and Roberts flaunt the rules. The match was an even affair that saw Snuka get the upper hand. Roberts made his way to ringside and wasted no time immediately attacking Snuka as the ref called for the bell. The sadistic duo started to attack Snuka before Magnum TA ran in to make the save.
Gene Okerlund: Something has to be done about Valentine and Roberts! I will say, Magnum TA has shown he's ready to throw himself into the fire. We'll hear more from all our stars next week on the program and debut even more wrestlers who are hoping to win gold at Title Weekend. Call those travel agents, book your tickets. We''ll see you next Friday night!
---Television broadcast ends---
