Master of ceremonies Gene Okerlund opens the program.
“Welcome to the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel as today we have a huge announcement that will completely reshape the world of professional wrestling. With the demise of the World Wrestling Federation, there is an awfully big void to fill. Who will bring top-tier professional wrestling to the fans starving for action across the country? The men in this room are ready to answer that question.”
Okerlund then welcomes businessman and promoter Badstreet Fields. “I am thrilled to announce the formation of a new professional wrestling promotion known as Universal Wrestling Enterprise. The promotion will be based out of Los Angeles but will travel all over the country presenting quality matches to the fans. One way to do that is through television and we are proud to announce that the Universal Wrestling Enterprise has signed an agreement with ESPN to produce a weekly television program which will air Friday nights at 9:00 PM. This is an incredibly exciting development and one that will allow us to bring wrestling into the homes of fans all over America.”
Okerlund then welcomes Scotty Connal, Vice President of Operations at ESPN.

“In our short history, ESPN has been innovative in our sports programming. Professional Wrestling is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and we are ready to join in the ascension. With the talented wrestlers assembled by the promotion and the quality production we will expect, we know that Friday nights at 9:00 PM wrestling fans, and non-wrestling fans alike, are going to have an entertaining and compelling hour of television. We look forward to this partnership with the UWE.”
Okerlund goes over statistics detailing how many homes will now have access to UWE programming, then introduces the Commissioner of the Universal Wrestling Enterprise, Lord James Blears.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in my career involved with wrestling on the West Coast. I know how passionate these fans are about wrestling and I know how much they love a good wrestling match. We have assembled a roster that is going to give fans a treat each and every week. Let me first reveal just a few of the wrestlers who have signed with our promotion:

Greg “the Hammer” Valentine
The Rock and Roll Express

This is just a sampling of the stars we have brought in and rest assured, there are many more talented wrestlers who will be a part of this promotion.
The promotion will be traveling all over the country, but our base is Los Angeles and as such, we will hold a monthly card at the Forum here in the L.A. area.
The promotion will have four recognized titles:
UWE World Heavyweight Champion
UWE North American Heavyweight Champion
UWE Hollywood Television Champion
UWE World Tag-Team Champions
The Hollywood Television Championship will be defended with regularity on our ESPN program ensuring that our television audience is able to see title matches with frequency.
Our first card will take place Tuesday, April 24 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas for airing on ESPN that Friday, April 27. We will then be at the Forum here in Los Angeles on May 8 for a tournament to declare our first World Champion.”
Okerlund thanks the attendees for their presence, then notes that all parties who spoke, and wrestlers in attendance, will be available for media inquiries. He then cautions, but stay away from Jake’s snake!
