CANADIAN WRESTLING FEDERATION PRESS CONFERENCE
Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
April 17, 1984
CWF President GENE KINISKI stands behind a podium in the conference room of Toronto's magnificent Royal York Hotel.
The former World's champion welcomes everyone that's gathered there, and thanks them for joining him for what will be a major announcement regarding the future of professional wrestling, not only in Toronto, but all of Canada!
Gene says that, as he's sure they're well aware by now, there is a major shake-up going on in the wrestling world. Over the past year, the World Wrestling Federation came in to Canada and bought out the wrestling promotions in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and the Maritimes.
However, the WWF has since had some legal problems and in the end, they closed up shop. That left the entire country without a major wrestling promotion.
That changes today!
Kiniski says that a consortium, headed by local promoter Chito K. McMahon, has stepped up, and they've started up a new promotion called the CANADIAN WRESTLING FEDERATION.
The CWF has secured a TV deal with the CBC, and a new television program, "Canadian All-Star Wrestling", will air on CBC every Saturday at 1pm, starting this Saturday, April 21.
They've also worked out deals with some of the top venues in eastern Canada, such as Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens and the Forum in Montreal, and in May, live wrestling will return to Canada!
Kiniski talks about some of the wrestlers that have been signed, including former Canadian champions DINO BRAVO, DEWEY ROBERTSON, and ANGELO MOSCA. They've also signed popular youngsters RICK MARTEL from Quebec City and BRET HART from Calgary. As well, fans can also expect to see some of the biggest names from the United States, England and all over the world!
Kiniski thanks everyone for being here today, and that brings us to the end of the press conference.
