On tap this evening, ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff challenge Curt Hennig for the PPW Heavyweight Title. Plus, Shane Douglas finally gets his shot at the Southern Jr. Heavyweight Title as he challenges Nelson Royal.
TV Match #1: Southern Tag Team Title
The Stud Stable vs. ‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong and the Dirty White Boy
Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden managed to steal the Southern Tag Team Titles last week from the Wild-Eyed Southern Boys thanks Fuller’s loaded boot. However, there’s no rest for the wicked as they’re knocked around by Bob Armstrong and the Dirty White Boy for much of this match. However, Fuller shows he’s got more tricks up his sleeve when Jamie Dundee trips up Bob Armstrong coming off the ropes. Armstrong then lunges at Dundee, allowing Jimmy Golden to land the knee to the back and roll up Armstrong for another victory!
Winners: Southern Tag Team Champions the Stud Stable
Lance Russell and Dave Brown send us to a special look at a wrestler who will be returning to the South right here next week on ‘The Power Hour’. This is the ‘Beast from the East’ Bam Bam Bigelow:
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Doug Furnas, Bob Armstrong, Dutch Mantell and the Dirty White Boy are frustrated as they join Gordon Solie at ringside before our next match. Dutch Mantell questions why Robert Fuller and his cronies are constantly able to break the rules and get away with it. The way The Dutchman sees it, there needs to be one match where everyone’s in the ring at the same time so there’s no back-jumping. Dutch is going to think long and hard about how to make such a match happen. Doug Furnas agrees with Mantell, but also tells Gordon Solie that Jerry Jarrett has signed a match pitting him against Bill Dundee right here next week. Furnas is gone to make Dundee regret ever sneak attacking him next week right in the middle of that ring!!
TV Match #2:
Austin Idol vs. Hollywood John Tatum
The Universal Heartthrob is on fire as he lays into Tatum with rights and lefts early on. Idol is relentless as he chop-blocks the right knee and methodically weakens it. Idol eventually locks in the Las Vegas Leglock and it’s not long before John Tatum is forced to submit. Gordon Solie mentions that it’s been quite some time since he’s seen Idol wrestling with this intensity!
Winner: Austin Idol
Austin Idol has his hand raised as Dick Slater saunters down the aisle after the match. Gordon Solie arrives on the scene to speak with Dick Slater, who tells the Universal Heartthrob that he heard his little challenge last week. Slater reiterates that he’s been paid good money to make sure Austin Idol never, ever gets his hands on the Southern Heavyweight Title, so he welcomes the chance to step into the ring with him. Solie questions Slater on who exactly is paying him, but the bounty hunter insists that such information is on a ‘need to know basis’. A furious Idol jumps out of the ring shouting that he ‘needs to know’ before slugging Slater! Austin Idol and Dick Slater brawl around ringside until officials and prelim wrestlers are able to separate them.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Lance Russell and Dave Brown hype the impending arrival of another promising young talent, he was personally trained by the now-former Southern Jr. Heavyweight Champion Nelson Royal. Let’s take a look at Ken Shamrock:
TV Match #3: Southern Jr. Heavyweight Title
Nelson Royal (c) vs. Shane Douglas
Before the bell is rung, Jeff Jarrett joins Lance Russell and Dave Brown to provide "expert commentary". Noticing that Jeff Jarrett is wearing yet another suit and cowboy hat (this time red), Lance mentions that Jeff certainly has upgraded his fashion lately. Jarrett chuckles: "A-ha-ha! Ain't I great?!" Nelson Royal stalls during the opening moments, protesting that he ever has to wrestler “this greenhorn”. Shane Douglas stays cool, calm and collected as Nelson finally locks up with him. The veteran has held the Southern Jr. Heavyweight Title longer than anyone else for a reason, and he really puts Shane Douglas through his paces throughout the contest. However, Shane Douglas has a true never-say-die attitude, kicking out of Nelson’s pin attempts a half-dozen times in the latter stages of the contest. Royal is admittedly frustrated and goes to apply a side-headlock, but Douglas shifts the weight out of nowhere and plants the champion with a belly-to-belly suplex. Douglas with the cover for the one… two… three! We have a brand new Southern Jr. Heavyweight Champion! Jeff Jarrett puts over Shane Douglas as extremely impressive, even if he's not quite in "Double J's class".
Winner: *New* Southern Jr. Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas
Gordon Solie is standing by in the locker room with ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff. In discussing his upcoming title match, Koloff reiterates that he no longer fights for Mother Russia, he doesn’t fight for the USA either: Nikita Koloff is his own man now! Solie mentions that the fans seem to be siding with him in his rivalry with Curt Hennig. Koloff corrects Solie and says there is no rivalry because you’re never going to see Curt Hennig in PPW again after he falls to the Sickle. As for the people, they have the right to cheer who they want but Nikita Koloff is looking out for himself!
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Lance Russell and Dave Brown quickly run down the recent history between ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff and PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig before our main event, before recapping that we’ll see Bill 'Superstar' Dundee face ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Doug Furnas next week as Austin Idol battle the bounty hunter Dick Slater. Plus, the 'Beast from the East' Bam Bam Bigelow returns to PPW to battle All-Japan Pro Wrestling stand-out Johnny Ace.
TV Main Event: PPW Heavyweight Title
Curt Hennig (c) y vs. ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff
The PPW Heavyweight Champion realizes that he has put away Nikita Koloff quickly if he wants to hang onto that title. So, Curt Hennig jumps the Russian Nightmare as the challenger is taking off his ring jacket, and clobbers him in the corner. Hennig grabs the right leg, rolls out to the floor and slams into into the steel turnbuckle post three times. Nikita Koloff is limping as he gets to his feet and as Curt Hennig approaches, The Russian Nightmare nails him with a few right hands that send Hennig reeling. Nikita Koloff is then able to body slam Curt Hennig and he bounces off the ropes for a big elbow smash, but Hennig rolls out of the way.
Nikita Koloff hits the canvas hard and is clearly disoriented. Curt Hennig pulls him into the center of the ring and then locks in a spinning toe hold and really wrenches back on the hold. Somehow, Koloff is able to reach the ropes after struggling for several minutes and Jerry Calhoun orders that the hold be broken. Both men are extremely slow to their feet, but once they are up Nikita Koloff connects with a series of right hands and then a back-drop that sends Hennig reeling. Curt Hennig pops back up and is met with a big shoulder-block from Nikita Koloff. The Russian Nightmare is trying to shake off the pain, but Hennig attack clips his injured leg.
PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig now signals for the end and pulls Nikita in for the Perfect-Plex, but somehow Koloff has the strength to back-drop his way out of it! Koloff is perching now as Curt Hennig struggles to get back to his feet. Hennig finally turns around… and is knocked for a 360 degree loop by a vicious Russian Sickle! Koloff with the cover for the one… two… three! We have a new PPW Heavyweight Champion!
Winner: *New* PPW Heavyweight Champion ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff
Jerry Calhoun hands Nikita Koloff the PPW Heavyweight Championship belt, as Curt Hennig remains sprawled out and unconscious on the canvas. However, there’s a surprise moment when Nikita looks at the aisle way and seems surprised. The camera pans over to reveal:
FREEBIRD TERRY GORDY HAS RETURNED TO POWER PRO WRESTLING!!!
Terry Gordy looks to be sizing up as Nikita Koloff holds the PPW Heavyweight Title high in the air for all of the fans to see. Lance Russell, Dave Brown and Gordon Solie discuss the double shock of Nikita Koloff becoming the new PPW Heavyweight Champion, and the sudden reemergence of Terry Gordy here on ‘The Power Hour’. Gordon Solie says he hopes to speak with Terry Gordy, perhaps next week, and then the announcers hype next week’s show one more time before signing off.
