Power Pro Wrestling presents:
‘The Power Hour’
Saturday 08/26/1988
The UTC Arena (Chattanooga, TN)
VTR: WELCOME TO THE POWER HOUR
Lance Russell, Dave Brown and Gordon Solie join us from ringside here for ‘The Power Hour’. On tap this evening, ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff faces Dan Spivey. If he wins, he earns a match with PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig right here next week. Plus, Southern Tag Team Champions the Wild-Eyed Southern Boys defend against the Stud Stable and the return of Jeff Jarrett.
TV Match #1:
‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong vs. Jerry Stubbs
Stubbs is loosely affiliated with the Stud Stable, and we’ve seen how much animosity there is between the Armstrongs and the Stable in recent weeks. Stubbs tries to pull every shortcut possible, but ends up on the receiving end of a Georgia Jawjacker and is pinned by Armstrong.
Winner: ‘Bullet’ Bob Armstrong
Gordon Solie is joined by Jeff Jarrett, who is decked out in a white suit and a white cowboy hat. Solie mentions that Jeff has recently had a very successful tour of the Far East, and welcomes him home. Jarrett chuckles and asks Gordon Solie if he likes his new duds, mentioning that he’s hired the same designer that Porter Wagoner uses! Jarrett tells Solie that the Japanese fans mobbed him everywhere he went - and why shouldn’t they? Now that he’s home, Jarrett has his eye on that Southern Jr Heavyweight Title and he’s damn sure going to get his hands on it! Gordon Solie notes a marked adjustment in Jeff Jarrett's attitude, before Jarrett chuckles: “A-ha-ha! Ain’t I great?”
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig and ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey are standing by with Gordon Solie. Hennig tells Solie that he’s not worried in the slightest about having to face Nikita Koloff next week. Why would he be? Curt is going to kick back and watch Dan Spivey utterly destroy the Russian Nightmare and send him out of Power Pro Wrestling just as quickly as he came. Hennig hands Spivey a wad of cash, telling his hired gun to make the beating to Koloff extra painful.
TV Match #2:
‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Doug Furnas vs. The Grappler
A few minutes into the match, ‘Superstar’ Bill Dundee joins Lance Russell and Dave Brown at the desk and questions why “a young punk” like Furnas is getting more TV time than him! Dundee is sick and tired of being stuck in the background around here in PPW. As he complains, Doug Furnas uses his incredible power to take The Grappler apart and eventually pins him after a gorilla press slam.
Winner: ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Doug Furnas
Bill Dundee is still ranting at raving at the desk with Lance Russell and Dave Brown when Doug Furnas makes his way over. The World's Strongest Man tells Dundee that if he has something to say, at least have the guts to say it to his face. Dundee chuckles a little bit, and shrugs before belting Furnas with the microphone! Furnas is dazed as Dundee comes around the desk and wallops him with the chair he was sitting on! Dundee puts the boots to Furnas until officials run him off.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
In the ‘Personality Profile’ tonight, ‘The Universal Heartthrob’ Austin Idol joins Gordon Solie to re-live footage from last week where ‘Dirty’ Dick Slater once again cost him the Southern Heavyweight Title. Idol has heard Tommy Rich whining and crying about how he has nothing to do with Slater, but the Idol is fully aware of Tommy’s motives. Austin has seen Rich do some lowdown things to stay at the top before, and that’s exactly what’s happening here. But maybe Idol has been going about this wrong? Maybe the wisest thing to do is take care of Dickie Slater first, then worry about Tommy Rich. Idol challenges Dick Slater to face him in a PPW ring, not by coming through the crowd but by having a match like every other wrestler on the roster!
TV Match #3: Southern Tag Team Title Match
The Wild-Eyed Southern Boys (c) vs. The Stud Stable
Jamie Dundee is in the corner of Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden here. However, it’s not long before he’s joined at ringside by his father Bill Dundee and Jerry Stubbs. This brings out a furious Doug Furnas, Bob Armstrong and the Dirty White Boy to run off the Dundees and Stubbs. However, in the cornfusion, referee Tommy Gilbert does not see Robert Fuller load up his boot and kick Steve Armstrong right in the forehead. Fuller makes the cover and steals the victory as his cousin Jimmy Golden fights off Tracy Smothers. We have new champions!
Winners: *New* Southern Tag Team Champions The Stud Stable
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Lance Russell and Dave Brown quickly run down the recent history between ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff, PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig and ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey before announcing that Shane Douglas will get his shot at Southern Jr. Heavyweight Champion Nelson Royal right here next week on The Power Hour.
TV Main Event:
‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey vs. ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff
This one is a battle of the bruisers, with neither man being able to take the other off their feet early. Spivey eventually manages to drill Koloff with a boot and works him over for several minutes. Spivey connects with a big power-slam that scores a near fall, followed by a leaping leg drop for yet another near fall. Now, Spivey signals for the end and he pulls in Koloff for the Spivey Spike, only for Koloff to hurl him into the corner in an incredible burst of energy. Spivey wobbles back out to eat a vicious Russian Sickle from Koloff. The Russian Nightmare makes the cover and it’s an academic three count! Nikita Koloff earns his title match with Curt Hennig next week!
Winner: ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff
The closing moments of The Power Hour see a furious Curt Hennig storm out of the dressing room to protest the referee’s count as Nikita Koloff motions that he’s taking the PPW Heavyweight Title. Lance Russell, Dave Brown and Gordon Solie once again plug next week’s line-up for signing off.
