Sorry I've been away for a while, but here are highlights of what you've missed out on......
Jim Duggan
Saturday 8/19 - After the previous two weeks when Duggan had been attacked seemingly at random, Ron Fuller addressed him on television and told him that he had figured out why people were attacking him. He had heard a rumor…. that someone has put a bounty on Duggan worth $50,000 to anyone who can take him out, but he doesn’t know who is behind it.
Monday 8/21 – Duggan received a rematch against Vladimir Pietrov for the SMW title, but when Duggan had Pietrov reeling, referee Carl Fergie took his shirt off and began choking Duggan with it, resulting in a no contest. Fergie was promptly fired, and claimed that the bounty was so large, he wanted to get rid of Duggan and claim it for himself.
Saturday 8/26 – While doing an interview at the desk with Thatcher and Weaver, Duggan said that much money can make a man do just about anything. No sooner had he spoke those words than Johnny Weaver used his wooden chair and whacked Duggan across the back with it, knocking him silly. He then applied his Weaver lock sleeper hold until Steve Keirn came out and ran him off. The enticing lure of easy money had reared it’s ugly head head again, and the great Johnny Weaver was fired and left SMW a disgrace.
Monday 8/28 – Duggan got another rematch with Pietrov because of the no contest in the last match, and this time, cops surrounded the ring to prevent any foul play. But, of course, with that large of a bounty, someone was bound to try something, and two of the cops at ringside turned out to be Spike and Basher…The MOD Squad, and they attacked Duggan with their night sticks before he could defeat Pietrov. Steve Keirn and The Rock and Roll Express made the save before they could collect on the bounty.
Saturday 9/2 – Tape was shown on TV of Duggan doing a commercial for a local car dealership in Knoxville, when a large man on a motor cycle (Eli the Eliminator) parked nearby and came up behind Duggan and attacked him during the commercial shoot. Duggan successfully fought him off and slammed him on the hood of a car. After the video, Duggan did an interview saying that even fans are trying to collect the money, but he ain’t no easy target. He said he’ll get to the bottom of this, and when he finds out who is behind it, there’s going to be hell to pay.
Monday 9/4 – Duggan once again got another match with Pietrov for the belt, this time inside of a steel cage. Duggan took advantage of no interference for a change, and defeated Pietrov to once again be SMW Heavyweight Champion!
Saturday 9/9 – Ron Fuller told Duggan that he has heard about all sorts of men coming here looking to collect on the bounty, to which Duggan replied, “let them come”
Monday 9/11 – Duggan gave Pietrov a rematch for the title on this night, and when he looked to have Pietrov beat, Ivan Koloff jumped in to make it a two on one. The Russians tried to collect on the bounty by whipping Duggan with their chain, but Steve Keirn made the save. After the Russians were ran off, Keirn helped Duggan up, and then laid Duggan out with a clothesline! He put the boots to Duggan until help came from the locker room.
Saturday 9/16 – Steve Keirn did a promo saying that no friendship is worth $50,000, and he is coming for the money AND the belt on Monday night.
Monday 9/18 – Duggan and Keirn engaged in a kock down, drag out fight that ended in a double count out.
Saturday 9/23 – We find out that Manager Sir Oliver Humperdink is bringing in Kendo Nagasaki to claim the bounty, and threatens to cripple not only Duggan, but everyone else here as well.
Rock & Roll Express
The R&R continued their feud with The Destruction Crew, trading wins until the cocky youngsters made a challenge for a Loser Leaves Town match. The Express showed them why they have been around so long, as they defeated the Crew and sent them packing on Aug. 28.
On the TV on 9/16, a verbal confrontation between Ricky Morton and Ivan Koloff escalated to a fist fight, that also ended up including Vladimir Pietrov and Robert Gibson. The Express and the various Russians have had many problems over the years and it looks like the rivalry has re-ignited.
Sam Houston vs. Buddy Landel
Landel kept chasing Houston around the horn for the TV title, and finally beat him to win it on Monday 9/18.
Midnight Express vs. Jimmy Valiant & Pez Whatley
Boogie and Pez continued to steam roll their opponents, and finally locked into a series of matches against the SMW Tag Team champions. They were some bitter fights, and the Street People finally made good on their promise to the people to win the belts when they defeated The Express on Monday 9/11 in Knoxville in a Street Fight match. This hasn’t set well with The Express who have vowed to win the titles back sooner rather than later.
