Power Pro Wrestling presents:
‘The Power Hour’
Saturday 08/19/1988
Municipal Auditorium (Nashville, TN)
VTR: WELCOME TO THE POWER HOUR
Lance Russell, Dave Brown and Gordon Solie join us from ringside here for ‘The Power Hour’. Tonight, we’ll have the rematch that fans have been waiting for: Southern Heavyweight Champion Tommy ‘Wildfire’ Tommy Rich defends against Austin Idol. Plus, we’ll have ‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff in action against Hollywood John Tatum. Plus, Gordon Solie is joined in the Personality Profile by Robert Fuller. Right now, let’s go to the ring!
TV Match #1:
The Bruise Brothers (w/ Downtown Bruno) vs. Norvell Austin and Rock n’ Roll Ricky Gibson
Two veterans of the Southeastern wrestling scene have the unenviable task of squaring off with these uncontrollable twins from the Ozarks, who storm the ring and jump both of vets. One of the twins throws Austin on the apron and then clotheslines him down to the floor. The Bruise Brothers shoot Ricky Gibson off the ropes and drill him with a double big boot. The twins then flatten Rock n’ Roll Ricky Gibson with the Battering Ram and cover him for the academic three count. Another impressive victory for Downtown Bruno’s Bruise Brothers!
Winners: The Bruise Brothers
PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig is not at all happy about being upstaged by Nikita Koloff on the Personality Profile last week. Hennig tells Gordon Solie that Koloff thinks he’s a big shot, but nobody tries to outshine the PPW Champion and get away with it. Before walking off in a huff, Curt Hennig warns Nikita Koloff that bad things happen to people that make him angry!
---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
Robert Fuller is standing by with Gordon Solie for the Personality Profile this week. Gordon Solie flusters Fuller right off the bat by pointing out that Bob Armstrong embarrassed the Stud Stable in his return to the area two weeks ago, then his boy Steve and surrogate son Tracy Smothers took the Southern Tag Team Titles off Bill Dundee and 'The King' Roy Lee Welch last week. Fuller corrects Solie, claiming that the Wild-Eyed Southern Boys stole the Southern Tag Team Titles last week thanks to a fast count from that fossil Tommy Gilbert!
The leader of the Stud Stable has had to deal with Bob Armstrong and his family of cheats, liars and thieves for years now and he’s sick of it! Starting tonight, the Stud Stable will no longer be playing by the rules like the good, Christian athletes they’ve always tried to be. Sometimes you have to get down into the mud at your opponent’s level, so it’s no more Mr. Nice Guy for Robert Fuller and the Stud Stable. Gordon Solie rolls his eyes as he sends us up to the ring.
TV Match #2:
‘The Russian Nightmare’ Nikita Koloff vs. Hollywood John Tatum
Hollywood John Tatum tries to trash talk the intense Nikita Koloff after bell, to no avail. Tatum goes for a cheap shot but Koloff no-sells it. Nikita shoves Tatum across the ring and as a dazed Tatum stumbles to feet, only to get knocked out of his boots with a Russian Sickle! Koloff with the cover for the one… two… three! It’s over in under 90 seconds, fans!
Winner: Nikita Koloff
As soon as the bell rings, ‘Dangerous’ Dan Spivey hits the ring and puts the boots to Nikita Koloff before the Russian Nightmare is even to his feet. Spivey pulls Koloff in and drops him head-first into the canvas with the implant DDT! Spivey gets in a few more stomps, before dropping out to the floor where he’s met by PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig. Hennig hands Spivey a wad of wash with a big smile of his face. After they walk off to the dressing room, Nikita Koloff pulls himself up and charges off to the dressing room in a rage.
---COMMERCIAL BREAK---
Nikita Koloff storms back out and demands to speak with Jerry Jarrett. Jarrett makes his way out to the broadcast area and tells Koloff that he’s very aware of what just happened, and knows what Nikita wants. So, Jerry Jarrett is signing a match right here next week on The Power Hour pitting Nikita Koloff against Dan Spivey one-on-one! Koloff also demands a match with PPW Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig. Jarrett tells Koloff that he can start with Spivey and we can go from there in terms of a bout with Hennig… if Nikita is successful. Koloff promises to break Spivey next week, then threatens that he might just break Jerry Jarrett if he doesn’t get his match with Curt Hennig!
TV Match #3:
Dutch Mantell vs. Bull Pain (w/ Robert Fuller)
The Dutchman is out with Shoo Baby, but doesn’t have an entourage. Robert Fuller demands the referee check Dutch Mantell for weapons before the match, and then slides something into his boot while Tommy Gilbert pats down The Dutchman. Once the bell rings, Dutch Mantell keeps control on Bull Pain. However, when Bull Pain has the referee wrapped up late in the match, Robert Fuller sneaks into the ring and kicks Mantell in the head with his loaded boot before rolling back out to the floor. Bull Pain then makes the cover and gets the win! The Stud Stable played dirty to win, just like Robert Fuller promised they would.
Winner: Bull Pain
VTR: SHANE DOUGLAS

As we come back, Lance Russell and Dave Brown talk about how Jeff Jarrett has been away for several weeks because he’s been off wrestling in Japan! However, Lance Russell has heard that Jeff will be back on The Power Hour next week and he looks forward to catching up with the young man. Lance and Dave then recap the situation between Austin Idol and Tommy Rich before sending us up to the ring for our featured bout.
TV Main Event: Southern Heavyweight Champion
Wildfire Tommy Rich © vs. Austin Idol
Wildfire offers Idol a handshake before the match but Idol just glares at him and shakes his head ‘no’. Idol and Rich lock up after the bell rings, and Tommy is able to wrestle Idol to the mat with a front facelock. Rich switches around and applies a side-headlock, but eventually releases the hold as Austin Idol reaches the ropes. As Idol starts to get to his feet, Tommy Rich kicks him square in the mush. Tommy then drives his knee into the face of Austin Idol several times and sends him off the ropes for a back elbow smash. Rich makes the cover, but Idol is able to kick out at the very last second. As Tommy Rich gets up and argues with referee Tommy Gilbert about the count, Austin Idol rolls him up from behind and almost gets a three count. A stunned Tommy Rich pops back up and charges at Idol, but Austin knocks the champion silly with a big right hand across the jaw. Austin Idol then pulls Rich up and then plants him back down once again with a scoop slam. Idol goes for the Las Vegas Leglock and he has locked in for a few moments, but Tommy Rich is able to get to the ropes and the hold must be broken.
The Universal Heartthrob isn’t happy but he does break the hold. Idol then pulls Tommy into position for a vertical suplex, but Rich is able to reverse it. Idol is slow to get back to his feet, allowing Rich to connect with a big right hand of his own. Idol charges back over, but Rich is again jawing with the official… and appears to pull Tommy Gilbert in the way of Idol’s clothesline. Rich shrugs and looks over at Idol, trying to convey that it was an accident. Idol has had about enough of Rich here and stalks him. Rich backs into the corner, trying to explain himself, but Idol belts him. Idol with rights and lefts as the fans cheer, and now he slams Tommy! Again, Idol is going for the Las Vegas Leglock and he’s got it! Rich is screaming that he quits… but there’s no referee.
However, at this very moment, Dick Slater again jumps the rail, grabs the Southern Title and climbs up top. Idol sees Slater on the top, but can’t get free of the Las Vegas Leglock before Slater dives off and drills him with the title across the forehead. Slater then connects with a big knee drop before rolling out the ring. Only when Slater is gone does Tommy Rich start to stir and drapes his arm over Idol’s chest. Tommy Gilbert is now coming to and he counts the one… two… three! Tommy Rich keeps the Southern Heavyweight Title, again thanks to interference to Dick Slater. Rich celebrates after the match as if he had no idea that Slater got involved. The camera zooms in on the unconscious Austin Idol.
Winner: Southern Heavyweight Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich
Gordon Solie, Lance Russell and Dave Brown recap all of tonight’s big events, and all three agree that we have not seen the last of this Austin Idol-Tommy Rich-Dick Slater situation. In fact, there are more questions than ever before. Quickly, they mention that we’ll see Nikita Koloff versus Dan Spivey next week, plus ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Doug Furnas will square off with a massive individual called the Roadblock.
