Hot Summer Nights - Final Night
ETSU Mini-Dome - Johnson City TN
Saturday July 15, 1988
- In the opener, Johnny & Davey Rich def. Barry Horowitz and Brooklyn Brawler at 9:08
- Sam Houston pinned "Gorgeous" Gary Young with a running bulldog at 12:33
- The Russian Assassin pinned Scott Armstrong after an over-the-knee back breaker at 10:00
- The Nightmares defeated The Blonde Bombers at 11:56
- "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel pinned "White Lightning" Tim Horner after dropping him throat first over the top rope at 9:01
- "Pistol" Pez Whatley w/ Jimmy Valiant pinned Jerry "Crusher" Blackwell w/ Ron Wright at 7:00 when Blackwell missed a splash and Pez gave him a dropping headbutt on the mat. Ron Wright tried to get involved, but Jimmy Valiant popped him with a right hand to end that threat.
- The Original Midnight Express def. SMW Tag Team Champions The Rock & Roll Express to win the belts at 23:43. Before the match, when the Rock and Roll Express were on their way to the ring, The Destruction Crew came out behind them and Mike Enos clipped the knee of Morton from behind. Security quickly put a halt to any further damage, but Morton had a hard time getting to the ring. The Midnights focused on the injury and worked over the leg for a while. Finally, at the end of the match, Morton went for a suplex on Randy Rose, but Condrey clipped his knee again, causing Morton to cumple with Rose on top of him for the pin fall.
Finals
Everyone in the Finals have won a Thunderdome Battle Royal during the tour
Doug Furnas, who came dressed in his Tennessee Jersey with his shoulder pads on underneath, and carried his helmet to the ring
The Bullet, came with his Buford Pusser Walking Tall inspired axe hande
Jimmy Valiant, came dressed in his finest street fight attire and sporting a pair of bass knuckles on each hand
Pez Whatley was in his wrestling gear, but had his fists taped
Jerry Blackwell just came as his big intimidating self
Great Kabuki came armed with a kendo stick
Ole Anderson, the tough SOB that he is, came in his wrestling trunks, boots, and a t-shirt
Brooklyn Brawler brought his trusty wooden stool with him
Ivan Koloff came out wearing his Siberian Salt Miner's glove, and Russian Assassin came with the Russian chain draped over his shoulders
The Destruction Crew both came with hard hats
Nikita Koloff came out with his entire right arm taped up to give more force to his Russian sickle
* This may have been the most exciting Thunderdome yet, as everyone was energized by the thoughts of winning the money. Valiant scored the first elimination when he got rid of The Russian Assassin after a shot from the brass knuckles he brought with him sent The Assassin flying out over the top rope
* Ole Anderson made it his mission to go after Ivan all throughout the match, as he has a score to settle over Ivan costing him his chance at the belt against Duggan. Ivan turned the tide on Ole though with shots from his glove that busted Ole open
* The Bullet gave The Brooklyn Brawler a shot from his axe handle, and then dumped him over the top rope
* The Destruction Crew teamed up to eliminate Kabuki
* Everyone ganged up on Blackwell and tossed him out
* Ole got the glove away from Ivan and blasted him in the head with it, drawing blood, before sending him out over the top rope
* Nikita caught Wayne Bloom with a sickle and tossed him
* Pez was the next one out as Mike Enos dumped him from behind
* Doug Furnas eliminated Mike Enos with a press slam over the ropes to the floor
* Boogie then went out after a running knee from behind by Ole
* The Bullet and Ole were into it, and Bullet missed a clothesline and went out over the top
* Nikita blasted Ole with the Sickle and he and Furnas dumped him to be the last two in the match
* They went at it for a bit, with neither gaining an advantage. Nikita went for the Sickle, but Furnas ducked, causing Nikita to run chest first into the corner. When he bounced out, Furnas lifted him up onto this shoulder, and planted him in the middle of the ring with a running power slam and got the winning pinfall at 13:45 to win the Thunderdome Battle Royal Championship and the money!
- Vladimir Pietrov defeated SMW Champion "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan in a Russian Chain Match to win the title at 15:00. It was a very hard fought match that saw both men bleeding quite a bit due to all the violence with the chain. In the end, both men were brawling and battling from corner to corner, with each man throwing the other into the corner to pound on them. The referee was counting this as 1 corner touched each. They brawled down the ropes and repeated the sequence in each corner, unaware that they were touching the corners. Before the last one. Duggan got on fire and rocked Vlad with several big shots. He then backed up and launched at Pietrove with a football tackle, knocking him back into the corner. Referee Carl Fergie called for the bell and declared Pietrov the winner much to the shock of Duggan and anger of the fans.
Ivan and the Assassin came in the ring and celebrated with Pietrov and the belt as Duggan angrily questioned Fergie about the decision before chasing him back to the locker room. Ivan ended the show by waving the Russian flag high over head. Smoky Mountain Wrestling is now in the clutches of Moscow.....
