Broadcast nationwide on Superstation WGN
Taped July 5, 1988 at the Brown County Arena in Green Bay, WI
“From coast to coast, border to border, and continent to continent, this is the AWA, the major leagues of professional wrestling!”
Rod Trongard opens the show, and welcomes his co-host Diamond Dallas Page!
Trongard and Page talk about tonight’s show, which will feature a big 6-man tag team main event! Sgt. Slaughter will team with the British Bulldogs to face Jimmy Hart’s Hart Foundation of Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart and Paul Orndorff!
Trongard also talks about what went down last week between World’s champion Steve Williams and Stan Hansen.
VTR: Last Week on Pro Wrestling USA:
After the match, Hansen grabs the house mic from Larry Nelson, and says that he took care of King Kong Brody, and ran him right out of the AWA, now he wants the top dog, he wants Steve Williams!
A moment later, Steve Williams makes his way out! Doc climbs into the ring and gets right in Hansen’s face. He says that he’s never backed down from a fight in his life, and he’s not about to start now! The two men stand nose to nose . . . Hansen throws a haymaker, but Williams is ready! Doc blocks the punch, and hits Hansen with a series of jabs. Hansen is momentarily stunned, but shakes it off, and drives a knee into Doc’s midsection. Hansen delivers some clubbing forearm blows that drop Williams to a knee, but he’s back up quickly and goes at Hansen!
The two brawl all around the ring before referees and other wrestlers swarm the ring and try to separate them. It takes several tries, as they keep breaking free and attacking each other again, but finally order is restored, and the two men are removed from the ring.
END VTR
Page says that Stan Hansen has cut a path of destruction through the AWA, first he and King Kong Brody dominated the tag team ranks, only losing the tag titles when they split up. Then Hansen defeated his former partner, and now he wants what Page feels he’s earned, a shot at the World heavyweight title!
Trongard says that few would disagree with Dallas, that Hansen has earned a shot at the title, and one thing is for sure, when these two meet in the ring, it will be one for the ages!
NIKITA KOLOFF VS. CUBAN ASSASSIN. Nikita dominates the match, putting the Assassin away with the Russian Sickle.
Magnum TA is standing by with Jimmy Hart and the Hart Foundation: Paul Orndorff, Bret Hart & Jim Neidhart. Magnum says that tonight, they’ll face Sgt. Slaughter and World Tag Team champs the British Bulldogs in a 6-man tag team match.
Jimmy says that tonight, the fans will see what he’s known all along, that while the British Bulldogs are a good team, Bret and Neidhart are a GREAT team! He says that there isn’t a single team in wrestling that’s in their league, and that includes the Bulldogs! He says that after his team wins the 6-man tag match tonight, the next step is the World Tag Team titles!
Orndorff talks about Sgt. Slaughter wanting a shot at his Americas title, and says that Slaughter should be careful what he wishes for, because when he gets in the ring with Orndorff, he’s facing the greatest of all-time! He says that he will embarrass Slaughter so thoroughly, Sarge will never be able to show his face in the AWA again!
We then go to comments from Sgt. Slaughter and the British Bulldogs. Slaughter says that Jimmy Hart and his Hart Foundation sure do like to run their mouths! He tells Orndorff to keep talking, keep bragging, because when Slaughter beats him for that Americas title, it will just make his victory that much sweeter!
Dynamite talks about Bret and Neidhart and says that these World Tag Team titles are the most prestigious tag titles in wrestling, and he and Davey Boy aren’t giving them up without a fight!
THE HART FOUNDATION: PAUL ORNDORFF & BRET HART & JIM NEIDHART (w/ Jimmy Hart) VS. SGT. SLAUGHTER & THE BRITISH BULLDOGS: DAVEY BOY SMITH & DYNAMITE KID. We’re treated to a little bit of everything with this match, we get some brawling from Slaughter and Orndorff, plenty of technical wrestling, and even some high flying from Bret and Dynamite!
The match ends up going more than 30 minutes, taking up the remaining time on the show! As the show comes to an end, the match is declared a draw!
Trongard and Page talk about the match we just saw, then they wrap up tonight’s show and Trongard hypes next week’s show.
