AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, ROUND 1
All first round bouts are 1 fall, 15 minute time limit
Ron Garvin vs. Eric Embry (w/Buddy Roberts): Former Texas Champ Embry relies heavily on interference from fellow Fabulous Blonde Buddy Roberts at ringside. In the end, that attempted rulebreaking backfires and Garvin KO punches Embry to score the 1-2-3 at 9:55.
“Ragin Bull” Manny Fernandez vs. Skip Young: The high flying Young gives Manny all he can handle, but the Bull gets the clean win with a brainbuster in 11:01.
Austin Idol vs. Iron Sheik (w/Gary Hart): This Idol's first match since being injured by Terry Funk. Idol seems determined to regain the belt he was never beaten for and he stays one step ahead of the Sheik for the entire match. Idol pins Sheik with an inside cradle at the 8:05 mark to advance.
Terry Funk vs. Chris Adams: No love lost here and this is a wild one! Funk nails Adams with a foreign object to score the win at 13:54.
Carlos Colon vs. Buddy Roberts: Colon is introduced as the Caribbean Champion. This is an excellent bout between two rugged veterans. Colon pins the Fabulous Blonde with a backslide in 10:22 to advance.
Kabuki (w/Gary Hart) vs. Lance Von Erich: The lone Von Erich in WCCW falls prey to the cheating of his family's archenemy Gary Hart. Hart manages to slip a nunchuk into the ring and Kabuki nails Lance with it to set up the pin at 10:08.
Sid Vicious vs. Big John Studd: Gary Hart shows up at ringside, waving Ron Bass' spurs to taunt Sid. Sid's head is still heavily bandaged from what Bass did to him and Studd goes out of his way to try and bust Sid open. There is blood oozing through the bandages as the match progresses, but it doesn't slow the rookie down and he fights hard against the more experienced Studd. Finally, the action spills out of the ring and referee David Manning counts both men out at the 8:44 mark.
Arm Wrestling Challenge: Tony Atlas vs. the Snowman: Snowman has his mysterious box that he says contains kryptonite at ringside and it's moving like whatever is in it is desperate to get out! After some trash talking, these two powerful men lock up. It goes back and forth for a few minutes, but it becomes obvious that “the Black Superman” is stronger and he starts forcing Snowman's arm backwards! Suddenly, the box breaks open and....
KEN PATERA BURSTS OUT!
Patera hits the ring and attacks Atlas from behind! Patera and Snowman unleash a vicious beatdown on Tony and leave him laid out in the ring! The Black Superman has met his Kryptonite!
AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, ROUND 2
All second round bouts are 1 fall, 30 minute time limit
Ron Garvin vs. Manny Fernandez: A hard hitting, action packed match. At the 13:59 mark, Garvin ducks a flying burrito and delivers the Garvin stomp to the Bull for a well earned win.
Austin Idol vs. Terry Funk (w/Big John Studd): Idol is like a man possessed as he goes for revenge against Funk. After getting beaten from pillar to post for most of the match, Funk wins at 13:36 after Studd interferes on his behalf. Chris Adams runs in to try and tell referee Bronko Lubich what happened, but gets a spike piledriver for his trouble!
Carlos Colon vs. Kabuki (w/ Gary Hart): This is more of an alley fight than wrestling match! Both men end up pushing referee Rick Hazzard around and earning a double DQ at the 14:11 mark! After the match, the Missing Link, who isn't even booked on the card, runs in and headbutts Hart and Kabuki out of the ring! The crazed Link looks like he might go after Colon, too, but Ron Garvin comes in and gets the Link to leave with him!
Ring announcer Ralph Pulley announces that only two men are left in the tournament: Ron Garvin and Terry Funk! The match between them will determine the new American Champion!
Texas Title Match: Steve Simpson © vs. Al Perez(w/Gary Hart) : Steve seems to have Perez off balance and stays on the offenseive most of the way. Unfortunately, Simpson goes for one monkeyflip too many and Hart holds on to Perz's tights to keep Steve from executing the move! Steve falls backwards hard, banging his head on the canvas and knocking the wind out of himself! Perez jacknife pins Simpson and braces his legs on the ropes for added leverage!
