Hot Summer Nights Tour – Night 1
Chattanooga TN – Chamberlain Field
Before the matches started, the National Anthem was played by members of the local National Guard Armory. The first couple of matches started before the sun went down, but soon enough, the action was taking place under the lights…..
- In the opening match of the night, George South picked up a win over Rip Rogers with a school boy roll up for the pinfall at 9:00. Rip’s new tag team partner, Ken Timbs got up on the apron of the ring and wanted Rip to whip South into a punch from him, but South reversed the whip and sent Rip crashing into a big haymaker from Timbs. He then rolled up the dazed Rip for the victory.
- The Destruction Crew, Mike Enos & Wayne Bloom, picked up a cheap win over Scott Armstrong and Johnny Rich in 12:30 when they gave Rich their version of the Doomsday Device. They focused on Scott’s injured back and actually broke a broom across his back on the floor that incapacitated him, allowing Enos and Bloom to double team Rich through the finish of the match.
- “Pistol” Pez Whatley pinned Nelson Royal after a head butt at 9:44.
- “Nature Boy” Buddy Landel pinned Sam Houston at 11:22 when he reversed an inside cradle that Houston used to counter Landel’s figure four leglock attempt. Landel reversed the cradle and grabbed a hand full of tights to get the pin.
- Vladimir Pietrov def. The Bullet in 10:00 with his Russian Hammer blow to the chest.
- Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions, The Rock & Roll Express successfully defended the belts against The Original Midnight Express in 20:19 when a mis-communication between the heels resulted in Rose catching a double drop kick.
Non-Title, Siberian Salt Miner’s Glove vs. Coal Miner’s Glove Match:
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs. "The Russian Bear" Ivan Koloff
Both gloves were placed on a table at ringside and the competitors could use either glove they wanted if they could get them. It was a slugfest right from the start, but Ivan raked Duggan’s eyes to gain an advantage and tried to get to ringside to retrieve a glove, but Duggan stopped him. The two battled around ring side for a while before heading back in. Soon enough though, Ivan went for the glove again on the floor, but Duggan stopped him once more. Ivan finally managed to break free by pushing Duggan backwards into the ring post. He quickly retrieved the Siberian Salt Miners glove and put it on, but before he could hit Duggan with it, Duggan back dropped him on the grass! Duggan then went to the table and got the Coal Miner’s glove, and the two squared off. Ivan went for a big swinging right hand that Duggan ducked, and when he spun back around, he was caught with a big shot from the Coal Miners glove that busted the Russian open! He gave Ivan another shot before throwing him back into the ring. He followed, but Ivan caught him with a shot in the mid-section that doubled Duggan over. Ivan then nailed him in the head with the glove, and now both men were bleeding. Ivan mounted the second turnbuckle and attempted to deliver a fist drop to finish Duggan off. Duggan rolled out of the way though, and Ivan nearly broke his hand hitting the canvas. As he got back to his feet and staggered around, Duggan wound up and gave him another big time shot with the glove that sent Ivan reeling backwards into the ropes. When he came back off the ropes, he was met with a flying football tackle that allowed Duggan to get the pin at 12:45.
Over-the-top-rope elimination rules until it's down to just two men, then pin or submission is the only way to win. Come dressed as you are, anything goes, street fight rules.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome back to Tennessee....THE TENNESSEE STUD!!!
After all of these were in the ring, The Great Kabuki made a grand entrance, including blowing green mist high into the night air. He got in the ring and all was set until.....
The song, “Boy From New York City” blared over the speakers heralding the arrival of “The Boogie Woogie” Man Jimmy Valiant who was in his finest truck stop tee shirt and ready to fight!
All 13 men started brawling, with some going through the ropes to the floor to fight around ring side. The action was rough as The Moondog was working over Rex King with his leg bone, The Russian Assassin had the Russian chain with him and using it on Tim Horner, Nelson Royal had a cowboy boot swinging it at everyone, The Brooklyn Brawler had a stool, and Valiant had brass knux on his hand! It was quite the fight to start off with, but bodies started flying soon as Rex King went out thanks to Ole Anderson.
Following him were The Storm Trooper by Valiant, Johnny Rich by a shot from the boot of Nelson Royal, The Brawler by Tennessee Stud, Horner by Kabuki, Nelson Royal by Pez Whatley.
Kabuki got to Valiant from behind and cracked him in the head with his nunchuks and tossed him out!
Tennessee Stud then grabbed Russian Assassin’s chain and jerked him, and the force carried him over and out!
Pez then gave Moondog a dropkick that sent him out. Stud and Kabuki got to fighting on the ropes, and were both dumped by Ole and Pez.
That left Pez and Ole in a match that has to end by pin or submission for the win.
They fought for a while, but Ole missed a charge in the corner, and Pez caught him with the stool that had been dropped by the Brawler for the pin fall at 15:55!
“Pistol” Pez Whatley has qualified for the Thunderdome Finals on July 15 in Johnson City!
The stadium announcer thanked everyone for coming out, and wished them a safe and happy Independence day.
