Gorilla Monsoon, and Jesse Ventura open the show.
Monsoon, “Happy Birthday America! Jess, we are in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the good old USA!”
Ventura, “That’s right Gino! What a night of action we have for you, will Savage, and Piper get along? Who will referee Hogan vs. Andre? Two very big questions.”
Monsoon, “You got that right! Tonight is going to be exciting, we also have an Intercontinental Title match, so let’s get things started with the top tag team in Japan.”
Match #1
Jumbo Tsuruta and Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. The Young Stallions
The Champions of Japan come to the USA. Roma and Powers have a tough task ahead. Yatsu starts with Roma. Yatsu wrestles a very hard hitting style. Roma is game, it he's no match for the Japanese. Yatsu tags in Tsuruta, and the veteran goes to work. Powers tags in, but he fares no better. Tsuruta finishes things with a power bomb. The team from the Far East looks very good.
Winners-Jumbo Tsuruta and Yoshiaki Yatsu
Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura are in the announce position.
Monsoon, “Jess, the Japanese team looked very good, and we have breaking news. At SummerSlam, on August 13, Tsuruta and Yatsu will challenge the Von Erich Brothers for the WWF Tag Team Titles.”
Ventura, “That’s a big challenge for the Texicans. I think the Japanese team might just beat the goat ropers.”
Monsoon, “It will be a great one. Now let’s talk about our next match. We have a man making his WWF debut, ‘Outlaw’ Ron Bass from Houston, TX.”
Ventura, “I’ve heard of Bass, he is one tough cowboy!”
Match #2
“Outlaw” Ron Bass vs. Hillbilly Jim
The bit outlaw carries a whip he calls “Miss Betsy”. He cracks it loudly. Jim will be a good first test. The big Hillbilly. Matches Bass blow for blow. Bass gets even more aggressive. Now he is control. He hits a move he calls the “Texas Ghordbuster” (Facebuster) for the win. With Jim on the mat, Bass lands a couple of lashes with Miss Betsy before referee Joey Marella threatens to disqualify Bass. The big Texan looks like trouble.
Winner-Ron Bass
Match #3
“Captain’s Match”
Tom Zenk w/Rick Martel vs. Jacques Rougeau w/Frenchy Martin and Raymond Rougeau
This one will be wild. Tim White will try to control the action. Frenchy Martin takes the mic.
Martin, “Rick Martel, you are a great French Canadien wrestler, why do you waste your time with a stupid American like this? Join me, I will take you to the top of the wrestling world!”
Martel takes the mic from Martin.
Martel, “Martin, there is no way I want anything to do with you! You are an embarrassment to Canada!”
Well, that answers that. It’s supposed to be one on one, but the others will have something to say about it. Zenk starts fast. Rougeau is in retreat. He takes to the floor to confer with his brother and Martin. Martel leads the cheers from his corner. Rougeau returns and lures Zenk onto a corner. He’s trapped. Now the French Canadian is in control. Tom fights his way out of the corner. Now we have a brawl. The match goes back, and forth, with both men having their chances. Martin climbs up on the ring apron. This distracts White. Raymond tosses a chair to Jacques. He decks Zenk, tosses the chair back to his brother, and covers Tom. White turns to count the fall. Martel argues, but to no avail.
Winner-Jacques Rougeau
Gorilla Monsoon is alone in the announce area.
Monsoon, “That was a miscarriage of justice! The Can Ams will not take this lying down. ‘The Bod’ is not with me. He’s on his way to the ring to interview WWF President Jack Tunney. He is about to announce who will be the special referee for the Hogan-Andre cage match at SummerSlam.”
Jesse Ventura and WWF President Jack Tunney are in the ring.
Ventura, “I’m here with, Jack Tunney, the WWF President. Let’s get right to the point Tunney. Ted DiBiase, and Andre the Giant, the ‘Million Dollar Giant’, challenged Hulk Hogan to a cage match at SummerSlam. The agreement was, if Horgan loses, he retires. Now I believe Hogan wants to retire, but that’s another story. You told the fans you were going to appoint a special referee for that match. What’s going on, who’s it going to be?”
Tunney, “Jesse, I don't agree with Hulk Hogan agreeing to this stipulation. I don’t think anyone should put their career on the line in a match.”
Ventura, “Get to the point Tunney!”
Tunney, “Alright, a match with these ramifications needs someone who can handle Hogan, Andre, and DiBiase. We need someone who won’t be intimidated. The WWF considered many people, we thought about Heavyweight Boxing Champion Mike Tyson, we considered NFL star William “Refrigerator” Perry, and even former NHL great, Dave Schultz!”
The Philadelphia crowd explodes at the mention of the “Hammer’s” name.
Ventura,”Get to the point, who did you pick?”
Tunney, “You.”
Ventura, “Me?!”
Tunney, “Yes, Jesse Ventura. We thought you could handle yourself, you know wrestling, and you were the best choice!”
Ventura breaks into laughter.
Ventura, “Tunney, I’ve said a lot of bad things about you, I still mean them, but you made a good choice here!”
We are back from commercial. Gorilla Monsoon, and Jesse Ventura are in the announce position.
Monsoon, “What’s going on Jesse? This is a miscarriage of justice!”
Ventura, “Hey Monsoon, I didn't ask for this, Tunney picked me! Just remember one thing, I predicted Hogan's career would end this summer, I’m always right!”
Monsoon, “I don’t like this one bit!”
Match #4
Intercontinental Championship
The Ultimate Warrior (Champion) vs. “Ravishing” Rick Rude w/Bobby “The Brain” Heenan
Rude, and Heenan are in the ring. Rude insults the fans as usual, and the Warrior’s music hits.
The Warrior hits the ring, and we are underway. Rude is in early trouble. Rick takes to the floor and confers with the “Brain”. Rude returns to the ring. The action goes back, and forth. Both strongmen get in their shots. They both have their chances. Both men end up brawling on the floor. Referee Joey Marella begins to count. He reaches ten and calls for the bell. Both men have been counted out.
Result-Double Count Out
We see a video.
The “All American” Ron Simmons is coming to the WWF!
Match #5
The Bolsheviks vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage w/Miss Elizabeth and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper
Earl Hebner is your referee. Nikolai Volkoff takes the mic and begins to sing. Savage, and Piper attack. The brawl is underway. Hebner is able to get things sorted out, and it’s Piper vs. Volkoff. Nikolai tries to use his size, and strength, but Piper is one of the best brawlers in the business. Piper lands rights, and lefts, and Volkoff is in full retreat. Zhukov tags in. He goes after Piper. The big Russian gets in several good shots. Piper tags in the Champion. Savage goes to work. He is the best in the World at this time. He works over Zhukov. He slams the big Russian, and climbs to the top rope. The “Macho Man” lands the big elbow. Hebner counts the fall! A big for America! Piper and Savage are in the middle of the ring. Piper takes the mic.
Piper, “Alright ‘Macho Man’, we did it, I knew we could do it! I fought right beside you, and you did the same for me, now I have a request, a demand!”
Savage, “What’s that?”
Piper, “You fight me, at SummerSlam, with the Title on the Line!”
Savage stares into Piper’s eyes.
Savage, “I’ll do it, Piper, but you’re in for the fight of your life!”
Savage extends his hand, Piper shakes it!
Winners-Randy Savage and Roddy Piper
Gorilla Monsoon, and Jesse Ventura close the show.
Monsoon, “What a night, we are officially on the road to SummerSlam! We have a WWF Title match, the ‘Macho Man’ defends the Title against Roddy Piper, and this man next to me, will be the special referee for the Hogan-Andre cage match! Jess, I don’t trust you!”
Ventura, “Gorilla, if you can’t trust me, who can you trust?”
Monsoon, “Exactly! Fans, see you on August 13, at Madison Square Garden, for SummerSlam!”
