Houston Tops Royal in Bunkhouse Main Event
It was another rough and tumble night of professional wrestling action last night at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium, presented by Smoky Mountain Wrestling. The card was highly anticipated due to the main event grudge bout between Nelson Royal and Sam Houston that was contested under “Bunkhouse Rules”, which meant that no holds were barred, there were no count outs, no disqualifications, and the wrestlers could dress how they wanted to.
Both wrestlers were clad in blue jeans and cowboy boots, and held nothing back as they battled tooth and nail to come out on top. Royal took the early advantage and stripped his belt off and used it to lash Houston across the back several times, and also used the buckle on the belt to batter Houston, causing a cut to open above his right eye. The blood flow from the wound hampered Houston on and off throughout the bout. He later returned the favor however, as he used Royal’s own buckle to inflict the same damage, and whipped him with the cow hide strap as well.
The two men battled around the ringside area as well, and Royal introduced one of the metal folding chairs from ringside to the fray as well. Houston countered that by using his own cowboy boot to do damage to Royal. Eventually, Royal looked to be in control after hitting Houston across the back with the chair he had brought into the ring. He attempted a piledriver on the chair, but Houston flipped Royal over his back and seized the advantage by hooking Royal around the head, and driving him head first into the steel chair with his patented “bulldog headlock” to earn the pin fall victory at 15:43.
In other action…..
Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions, The Rock & Roll Express met The Original Midnight Express with Baby Doll in a non-title match, which saw Condrey and Rose take the fall when a distracted Robert Gibson fell victim to the “Double Goozle” and was pinned at 18:21.
“Nature Boy” Buddy Landel secured another victory in Smoky Mountain Wrestling with a pin fall win over George South in 12:54 with a cork screw elbow.
The masked Russian Assassin pinned Denny Brown after an over the knee backbreaker in 10:09.
Danny Davis and Ken Wayne, The Nightmares, defeated Rip Rogers and Barry Horowitz at 13:45.
Pat Rose wrestled Joey Maggs to a ten minute time limit draw in the opening bout of the night.
