Power Pro Wrestling: Clash of the Titans
Sunday, June 4, 1988
Chicago, IL
1) 'The King of Wrestling' Harley Race pinned Curtis Hughes at 9:24 when he connected with a pile-driver.
2) 'Hacksaw' Butch Reed fought Hercules Hernandez to a double count-out when both men brawled around the ring and back to the dressing room.
3) 'The World's Strongest Man' Doug Furnas pinned Big Steel Man at 4:01 in a battle of the strongmen when Doug Furnas connected with two big leg drops across the chest on the previously-undefeated Big Steel Man. Furnas hit two more big leg drops on Big Steel Man after the match, an echo of what Steel Man had been doing to his own opponents.
4) Super Assassin (w/ The Assassin) pinned Ron Simmons (w/ Mr. Wrestling II) at 10:49 when The Assassin loaded up his protege's mask and provided a distraction and allowed Super Assassin to drill Simmons twice across the forehead. After the match, Mr. Wrestling II tried to explain to referee Mike Fever that Assassin pulled a fast one, but Fever didn't see it.
5) PPW Tag Team Champions Death and Destruction (w/ Woman) fought the Steiner Brothers to a 15:00 time limit draw. Scotty Steiner got on the microphone to ask for five more minutes, but Woman refused and led her champions away from the ring.
INTERMISSION
6) PPW TV Champion Shane Douglas, Wendell Cooley and the returning Lord Humongous defeated Kendo Nagasaki, 'Maniac' Matt Borne and Nord the Barbarian (w/ Ronnie P. Gossett) at 15:02 when Shane Douglas scored the pinfall on Kendo Nagasaki. Cooley and Douglas were at a disadvantage for most of the bout until Lord Humongous finally made his return. The big man hit the ring and choked the life out of Kendo Nagasaki and then chased Ronnie P. Gossett to the dressing room, with Nord charging after them. Douglas then scored the pinfall on Nagasaki for the win.
7) Jerry 'The King' Lawler pinned Bill 'Superstar' Dundee at 19:01 with a flying fist drop to win his first PPW match. Lawler arrived under a spotlight to 'Gonna Fly Now' from Rocky, as Dundee stewed in the ring. These two had one of their classic brawls, with Dundee scoring several near falls. However, a big right hand and then a flying fist drop finished off the Superstar.
8) Dick Slater (w/ Paul E. Dangerously) pinned PPW Heavyweight Champion Terry Gordy in 21:34 to become the brand new champion. The biggest shocker here is that after thwarting Paul E. Dangerously at every turn, special referee 'Hacksaw' Butch Reed was finally tempted by a briefcase full of $100 bills by Dangerously and drilled Gordy with the case behind in-ring referee James Beard's back. The crowd was stunned as Dick Slater planted Terry Gordy with a brain-buster to score the victory. Paul E. Dangerously gave Butch Reed a big smile and walked off with him and the new champion Dick Slater. How exactly is Hercules Hernandez going to feel about Paul E. Dangerously's deal with Hacksaw Reed?
