10 PM
Ten PM rolls around and a chintzy graphic for the World of Unpredictable Wrestling pops up onto the screen. It quickly gives way to a quick pan of the tiny television studio filled with a small but appreciative crowd, surrounding a ring on three sides before giving way to the program's hosts standing in front of a WUW banner.
Jay Sulli: "Welcome wrestling fans to the very first broadcast of the World of Unpredictable Wrestling, coming to you on the Brooklyn Community Access Television network, Cablevision Channel 67. Along with me is my broadcast partner, Stevie Wonderful.
Wonderful does not look to happy.
Stevie Wonderful: "I have no clue as to why you are so happy. Here we are, far from Philadelphia, in a rat's nest of a television studio ..."
Jay Sulli: "Stevie, sometimes you just have to be happy with the cards dealt to you. It doesn't matter where we are, we are here to do a job and that, my friend, is call professional wrestling."
Big sour puss and a rolling of the eyes from Wonderful before they are joined by Mr. Unpredictible himself, Johnny Rodz.
Jay Sulli: "Allow me to welcome Mr. Johnny Rodz ..."
Johnny Rodz: "Jay, please call my Johnny. All my friends do."
Jay Sulli: "Alright, Johnny and before we get any further, I want to thank you for sending the driver ..."
Stevie Wonderful: "Wait a second, you had a driver pick you up? All the way in Philly? I got a bus ticket ... Johnny is that true?"
Johnny Rodz: "YOU can call me Mr. Rodz."
The smiling Sulli diffuses the situation as he steps inbetween the two.
Jay Sulli: "Lots of action over the next thirty minutes but before we get to our first match, we have a little business to get to. DON'T GO AWAY!"
Public access television doesn't have true commercials. We break away from the show for a quick rundown of programming for later in the evening before going to a taped piece with Johnny Rodz standing in front of a Gleason's Gym banner ... that's the World Famous Gleason's Gym!
Johnny Rodz: "Do you have what it takes to be a professional wrestler? Do you want to step into the squared circle? Then you need to come down to the World Famous Gleason's Gym ... a state of the art facility with professionals that have over 50 years experience in the business. We'll teach you the right way to do it both inside and outside of the ring. If you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, we have programs for you ... weight conditioning, diet and lifestyle training, cardio training, the basics of wrestling moves to the very advanced. I will personally teach you ring psychology. Not only wrestlers but for managers and valets as well. So ... what are you waiting for? Come on down to 77 Front Street in Brooklyn or call (718) 797-2872 ... TODAY!
And we are back ... with a graphic displaying the names of the two inside the ring awaiting the bell to ring.
TRENT ACID versus JOHNNY KASHMERE
The youngsters shake hands before referee Joe Zanolle calls for the bell. We are underway and as expected, two young guys go all out at a break neck speed to open the match. Lots of arm drag spots from the two that gets the fans pumped. No real heel or face to get behind, just lots of action but no real advantage for either one as they trade moves back and forth. A little sloppy some five minutes in but they settle down and break out a couple of big moves that net both men near pinfalls. Some nine minutes in to their ten minute match, a man in black leather and a gas mask makes his way out to the ring.
Jay Sulli: "What is going on here? We have a man with a microphone interrupting a match in progress."
Stevie Wonderful: "THANK YOU! This match was putting me to sleep. Remind me to give this guy a ten-spot for doing as all a favor."
Jay Sulli: "Oh please!"
The man removes his gas mask while the referee, Acid and Kashmere are stumped as to what is going on. The black haired man with heavy face paint looks around at the crowd.
Gas Mask Man: "He is coming ... HE IS COMING!"
Acid and Kashmere can only shrug their shoulders before leaping into the air and with a double dropkick boot the intruder from the ring, sending him through the ropes to go crashing to the outside. The two young wrestlers shake hands to a loud ovation before leaving the ring. They celebrate with the fans before disappearing into the back.
Jay Sulli: "A strange ending to our first match but this is the World of Unpredictible Wrestling. With a no contest in this match, I am sure we will see Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere in a rematch some time down the road ... but right now, we have Bill Apter ..."
Another taped piece finds a familiar figure in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Bill Apter standing by with a very large 300 pound plus man wearing a t-shirt with #498 across the front of it. The two are standing in front of a very plain white wall ... how's that for big bucks?
Bill Apter: "Good evening wrestling fans, Bill Apter here and tonight I've been joined by Vinnie Biondo. Now, Vinnie all this week my phones at the PWI office has been ringing off the hook. For whatever reason, you've been calling to try and set up and interview ... well, now you've got me ..."
Vinnie Biondo: "That's right Apter, I wanted you right here to give you a piece of my mind."
Bill Apter: "Uh Oh ..."
Vinnie Biondo: "Shut your mouth and let me talk ... now, do you know what this is?"
Biondo pulls his shirt out, holding the #498 out for Apter to see. Bill shakes his head.
Vinnie Biondo: "Well, let me tell you what this is ... last year, your crappy magazine ranked me at #498 out of 500 wrestlers ..."
Bill Apter: "That's great! Congratulations ..."
Vinnie Biondo: "ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Number 498 out of 500? I'm a top ten wrestler ..."
Bill Apter: "Wait a second Vinnie, there is a long process with writers and promoters sending in their votes. I don't pick the winners ..."
Vinnie Biondo: "That's what you say but next week, right here, I am going to change your mind. I am going to wrestle and to make sure that you're close enough to see how good I am ... you're going to be the referee!"
The big man lumbers off, leaving a protesting Apter standing alone.
Bill Apter: "Well ... I'm Bill Apter and I'll see you at the matches!"
Another quick break as to what is coming on later tonight before an advertisement for t-shirts ... World of Unpredictible Wrestling t-shirts to be exact, along with phone number and address to order! GET ONE TODAY!
Back to Sulli and Wonderful!
Jay Sulli: Bill Apter here next week on WUW TV! Mr. 498, Vinnie Biondo in action as well as Kevin Lee facing Tony DeVito ... speaking of DeVito, here he comes as part of the entourage of Angel Medina, the self-proclaimed Duke of New York."
Stevie Wonderful: "I suppose he's A#1?"
Jay Sulli: "There is no telling Stevie. Also accompanying them is Jason Knight. Not liking this and I am sure his opponent, A.C. Smooth, doesn't like those odds either.
ANGEL MEDINA w/JASON KNIGHT and TONY DEVITO versus A.C. SMOOTH
Medina attacks before the opening bell, even before removing his full length leather coat or sunglasses. Smooth takes a beating right from the start.
Jay Sulli: "BIG BODY SLAM ... and he finally removes his coat and sunglasses. Stevie, both these men are former students of Johnny Rodz."
Stevie Wonderful: "I think Smooth should ask for his money back."
Smooth is beaten from pillar to post but Medina refuses to make a pin attempt. An Irish whip and Medina waits to plant a big boot to Smooth's mush but A.C. ducks. After shooting himself off the ropes, he rocks Medina with a flying forearm. After whipping Medina hard into the corner, Smooth mounts the ropes and rains down punches. Knight and DeVito try getting into the ring but are quickly cut off by the referee, Zanolle.
Jay Sulli: "Veteran referee Joe Zanolle not having any of that and rightfully so."
With a monkey flip, Smooth puts Medina down makes the cover ... only Zanolle is busy with Medina's mooks.
Jay Sulli: "SMOOTH WITH THE COVER! WHERE'S THE REFEREE!"
Finally, Joe Zanolle drops for a count and Medina kicks out. Lots of booing from the fans and an eye rake stops Smooth in his tracks. With DeVito distracting the referee, Medina whips Smooth into the far ropes where Jason Knight is waiting with his knee raised. Hitting the knee, a loopy Smooth comes off the ropes, right into a stiff clothesline that spins him off his feet.
Jay Sulli: "A.C. Smooth isn't the only one in this match with his hands full."
Pulling Smooth up, Medina plops him up onto his shoulders with a fireman's carry. Twisting his body, Medina throws out Smooth's legs as he drops down to the mat, holding his opponent's head into a high impact Cutter. Razzing from the fans as Medina floats over for a nonchalant cover.
Jay Sulli: "You need three referees to keep an eye open in this one. There's the cover ... 1! 2! 3! Angel Medina has stolen one here!"
Stevie Wonderful: "What are you taking about, this one was never in doubt. Angel Medina paid attention in class while A.C. Smooth was playing hooky."
Jay Sulli: "You don't know if that is true!"
Stevie Wonderful: "If he been in class, he wouldn't have been manhadled like he was."
Jay Sulli: "Oh brother ... fans we are out of time! For Stevie Wonderful, I'm Jay Sulli ... we hope to see you next week right here in the World of Unpredictible Wrestling! GOOD NIGHT!
